    Stubborn

    Single-Minded

The room was saturated with the rich scent of hyacinth, mingling with the seductive and dangerous datura from the woman on the bed—lethal and intoxicating.

Jiang Youwan fell back onto the bed in a wretched state. She lightly licked the lip Jiang Jinyi had bitten open. Her hazy, unfocused gaze was unconsciously alluring, utterly provoking a dark urge to ravage her.

The fragrance of datura invaded Jiang Jinyi’s senses, seeping into every pore. Fortunately, she had already injected an inhibitor and remembered exactly why she had come to this room. Pulling out the inhibitor she had prepared beforehand, she approached Jiang Youwan, grabbed her limp, boneless arm, and pitilessly injected the serum into her.

    “Heh…”

Jiang Youwan turned her head to look at her, her eyes filled with a thick, unprecedented resentment.

She stared deeply at Jiang Jinyi.

As the inhibitor entered her body, her restless pheromones finally calmed down. Jiang Youwan lay powerlessly on the bed. Jiang Jinyi fished the phone out of her suit pocket. When she turned it on, it required a passcode.

Too lazy to guess the passcode, she grabbed Jiang Youwan’s hand, pressed her fingerprint to the sensor, and unlocked it with ease.

She had deleted her from WeChat ages ago, yet to her surprise, Jiang Youwan’s profile picture was still the very painting she had helped her set all those years ago.

She couldn’t find any useful clues on the phone; it was all work-related matters. Even the chat history with Jiang Ningshu was perfectly normal.

No, it was normal—and yet abnormal.

There wasn’t a single intimate word or expression of care. They sounded strictly like a superior and a subordinate.

Why? Even if Jiang Ningshu no longer wanted her, she would still add words like “baby” when sending her messages.

Didn’t she love Jiang Youwan the most? Could there be some hidden truth?

Jiang Jinyi threw the phone back onto the bed and began rummaging through Jiang Youwan’s study, turning everything upside down. She didn’t miss a single piece of paper, and she copied all the files from her computer.

A long, long time passed. Jiang Youwan struggled to open her eyes, looking weakly at the person in front of her. She couldn’t decipher the look in Jiang Jinyi’s eyes. Was it a hatred so deep she wanted to kill her?

Realizing Jiang Jinyi was about to leave, she caught hold of the hem of her clothes.

Jiang Jinyi turned back to look at her. Her sweet face was tainted with hostility as she called her name with pure hatred: “Jiang Youwan.”

Jiang Youwan’s eyes grew wetter. Feeling wronged and lost, she asked, “Why don’t you call me jiejie anymore?”

    Call her jiejie?

Asking to be called jiejie? Did she even deserve it?

In Jiang Jinyi’s eyes, this sentence was a naked provocation.

When she was willing to call her jiejie, she was jiejie. When she wasn’t willing, she was nothing at all.

Jiang Jinyi shook off Jiang Youwan’s hand. “Call you jiejie?”

“Can you stop being so fake? Stop playing this pathetic act of sisterly affection with me!”

    “Xiao Jin…”

Jiang Youwan fell silent. She struggled to fish something out of her suit pocket. She fumbled for a long time, and just as Jiang Jinyi was about to lose her patience, she finally pulled it out.

It was a blister pack of stomach medicine.

“Xiao Jin, your stomach will hurt,” she said weakly. Her eyes were hazy with intoxication, yet filled with sincerity.

Ever since Xiao Jin had returned to Luo City, she had carried stomach medicine on her person at all times.

With her mother dead, Xiao Jin would absolutely be heartbroken. Would she go out to drown her sorrows in alcohol?

She was just afraid that there would be a time when Xiao Jin was suffering and she wouldn’t have any medicine for her.

Xiao Jin’s stomach had been delicate since she was a child. If she drank, she would definitely be in pain.

But the very next second, Jiang Jinyi violently flung the blister pack of stomach medicine onto the floor. She stood up and slammed the door behind her as she left.

She didn’t return to her room. She went downstairs, got in her car, and drove off. After waiting by the side of the road for a short while, the passenger door was pulled open. A girl with twin tails hopped in with practiced ease, leaning back against the seat and panting.

Jiang Jinyi turned to look at her, asking with a hint of anticipation, “How was it?”

Xu An waved the camera in her hand. “Got it.”

“Hurry up and buckle your seatbelt,” Jiang Jinyi reminded her. Once Xu An had buckled up, Jiang Jinyi started the car and sped off into the distance.

As the car drove steadily, Xu An crossed her legs and fiddled with the camera, reviewing the photos she had just taken.

    “She’s pretty good-looking,” she remarked.

“Bastard!” Jiang Jinyi interrupted her coldly, her tone laced with disgust. “If you like her so much, get out of the car and go find her yourself.”

“…” Xu An muttered. “It’s not like she likes me.”

Jiang Jinyi slammed on the brakes. The sudden halt nearly sent the camera flying from Xu An’s hands. Feeling Jiang Jinyi’s murderous glare, Xu An knew she had completely set the Eldest Miss off. Her survival instincts kicking in, she offered an apologetic smile. “I was just joking! Who would like a murderer?”

Jiang Jinyi shot her a vicious glare and restarted the car.

    They vanished into the night.

Jiang Jinyi had looked into a restaurant that Jiang Youwan visited every day. She booked the table right next to Jiang Youwan’s usual spot, arriving half an hour before Jiang Youwan’s typical dinner time. She ordered a lavish dinner spread, along with two bottles of red wine.

Xu An had said that sometimes, if you pushed a person to the brink, until they couldn’t bear it anymore and were ready to throw caution to the wind1, that person was very likely to lose their head in a fit of rage and confess their crimes.

How could one push a person to the point where they couldn’t endure it anymore? Jiang Jinyi didn’t know about other people, but when it came to Jiang Youwan, Jiang Jinyi knew what she cared about most. She knew exactly how to enrage her, and she knew her bottom line.

She knew exactly how to hurt her the most.

Jiang Jinyi was wearing a white strapless dress that exposed her collarbones and her slender, delicate swan-like neck. A few small braids were woven into her ink-black hair, and her makeup was meticulously and flawlessly done. Embellished with a few small accessories, she looked elegant and beautiful, giving off the distinct impression of someone who had carefully dressed up for a date with a lover.

If Jiang Youwan saw her dressed up so beautifully just to go on a date with an alpha, how could she possibly not be triggered?

The alpha she had hired hadn’t arrived yet. Feeling a bit bored, Jiang Jinyi lowered her head to play on her phone. Suddenly, a shadow fell over her. Sensing someone standing in front of her, she assumed it was the hired alpha. She carelessly raised her eyes, only for her gaze to suddenly freeze.

The woman possessed an incredibly glamorous face, and her body exuded a scent exclusive to an alpha. Wearing a smile, she bent down and whispered softly into Jiang Jinyi’s ear, “Miss, you’re so pretty.”

    So pretty?

If this were any other day, and Jiang Jinyi was hit on like this, she would definitely give the person the cold shoulder. But right now…

Jiang Jinyi carefully sized her up. She wore a long red dress and had wavy hair. Her figure was sexy and slender, and she smiled like a fox, giving off the vibe of a glamorous, coquettish seductress2.

    But…

Seeing her blank stare, Wen Ye raised a hand and waved it in front of her eyes. “Miss Jiang?”

Suddenly, Jiang Jinyi recognized her, her tone carrying an uncontrollable hint of pleasant surprise. “Are you Wen Ye?”

The woman was a little surprised by her question. “Miss Jiang knows me?”

“I’ve seen your paintings.” Jiang Jinyi’s eyes curved into crescents, revealing her dimples. Her tone was light and airy. “They’re very good.”

Wen Ye instantly let out a soft smile, her tone gentle and mild. “Miss Jiang’s paintings are also very good.”

Plenty of people had praised Jiang Jinyi’s art before, but this time, she felt a little thrilled. Her eyes shone brightly. “You’ve seen my paintings?”

“Hmm…” Wen Ye raised her eyebrows, speaking airily. “Of course I have. I naturally had to appreciate the work of our very own Miss Jiang of Luo City.”

Wen Ye added, “What? Are you my little fan?”

Faced with such bluntness, Jiang Jinyi froze. Embarrassed by her teasing tone, she paused for a moment before replying unnaturally, “I suppose.”

Jiang Jinyi had loved Wen Ye’s artwork since her teenage years and had bought quite a few pieces for her collection. Wen Ye had been abroad all these years; she had no idea when the woman had actually returned to the country.

Seeing her adorable reaction and catching sight of her pink ear tips, Wen Ye’s smile deepened. “Miss Jiang is a bit different from what I imagined.”

“The rumors say that Miss Jiang is domineering and arrogant, but they never mentioned that Miss Jiang gets shy so easily.”

At her words, Jiang Jinyi’s ears turned even redder. She blinked and embarrassedly averted her gaze. “I don’t get shy easily…”

Wen Ye’s smile didn’t waver as she asked, “Are you waiting for someone for dinner?”

Jiang Jinyi shook her head, changing her mind on the spot. “I’m not waiting for anyone. If you have the time…” Jiang Jinyi glanced at the seat across from her.

Wen Ye smiled and sat down across from Jiang Jinyi. A waiter came over to help them open the wine. Wen Ye took the bottle and poured two glasses, handing one to Jiang Jinyi. “Miss Jiang, care for a drink?”

With reddened ear tips, Jiang Jinyi took the glass. Just as she tilted her head back to drink it, a hand suddenly reached out from beside her and pressed the wine glass down.

Jiang Jinyi turned her head in surprise. Jiang Youwan had appeared behind her at some unknown point. As Jiang Youwan looked at Wen Ye sitting across from them, her elegant, faint smile was nowhere to be seen. Her face looked as though it were coated in a layer of frost, carrying a hostile, possessive aura.

    “Apologies, she cannot drink.”
