    Mischievous

As long as she was alive, she was willing to endure all of her bad temper.

The night of the banquet soon arrived.

That evening, Jiang Jinyi was the last to appear, arriving at the banquet in a luxury sedan.

Her feud with Jiang Youwan was a fact known to absolutely everyone in the elite circles of Luo City. Four years ago, Jiang Jinyi had repeatedly made things difficult for Jiang Youwan in public, even hurling awful insults to humiliate her. This particular banquet was crucial to the future of the Jiang Corporation. So, what was Jiang Jinyi doing here?

Had she come to crash the party?

Some guests were worried, while others were simply eager for a show.

Countless pairs of eyes, both male and female, gathered on Jiang Jinyi. It had to be said that she was breathtakingly beautifulโ€”a remarkably rare S-class Omega. An Omega of her caliber was the most delectable prey imaginable in the eyes of an Alpha. In the past, because she had been the most favored daughter of the Jiang family, no one had dared to entertain any ideas about her. But things were different now. She was a fallen heiress. Quite a few Alphas harbored illicit thoughts and approached to strike up a conversation, dropping blatant hints, only for her to tell them all to get lost.

Jiang Jinyi still had that same fiery temper.

She knew the filthy thoughts running through those Alphas’ heads, knew how they coveted her. She had come heavily prepared. Not only was she wearing an inhibitor patch, but she had also injected herself with an inhibitor beforehand.

She completely blocked out the pheromones of everyone else, refusing to give them even the slightest opportunity to succeed.

Her gaze swept carelessly across the venue before locking onto Jiang Youwan, who was standing not far away, holding a wine glass and smiling as she conversed with the guests.

Jiang Youwan was dressed in a dark green qipao1. The tailored fit accentuated her curves, making her figure look even more alluring. Her long, slightly wavy hair was pinned up at the back of her head. She raised her glass, took a delicate sip, and smiled with gentle amiability.

She looked so aloof and arrogant. Only Jiang Jinyi knew how cheap she had acted while in heat that night.

As if sensing her gaze, Jiang Youwan turned her head. Across a distance of over ten meters, their eyes met.

A flash of stunning admiration crossed Jiang Youwan’s eyes, and they curved into an imperceptible, soft smile.

It was as if she had caught a little kid peeking at her. She had been waiting for Jiang Jinyi for a long time. She had known Xiao Jin would dress up, but she hadn’t expected her to look quite this gorgeous.

She figured that, by a generous stretch of logic, Xiao Jin had dressed up just for her.

Seeing Jiang Youwan looking back at her, Jiang Jinyi immediately shot her a look of utter disgust. She turned her head away like a haughty white swan.

A hint of deep, covetous longing hid in Jiang Youwan’s eyes. Her gaze trailed after Jiang Jinyi’s retreating figure as she disappeared into the crowd.

“President Jiang?” the man beside her prompted, noticing she was entirely captivated. A flash of impatience crossed Jiang Youwan’s eyes before she seamlessly resumed her professional smile. She turned back. “My apologies. Where were we?”

Once nearly all the guests had arrived and taken their places, Jiang Youwan stepped up beneath the large screen. Holding a microphone, she looked gentle and dignified in her qipao. Standing there, she radiated an almost supreme, holy purityโ€”dazzling and glowing with vitality.

    Holy?

Jiang Jinyi knew full well that she was filthy beyond belief.

Her heartbeat gradually accelerated. She waited for Jiang Youwan’s announcement. If the woman went back on her word, Jiang Jinyi thought to herself that she wouldn’t be soft-hearted. She would leak all those recordings and photos. Even if it meant destroying the Jiang Corporation, she would drag Jiang Youwan down with it.

Jiang Youwan was speaking about the future of the Jiang Corporationโ€”what steps to take, which direction to expand in, and so forth. Toward the end, she paused. Jiang Jinyi looked at her, knowing full well that Youwan was looking right back. She knew Jiang Youwan was about to say those words. Yet, an abrupt heaviness settled in her chest. Her heart was racing, but the anticipated joy of impending victory was entirely absent.

Suddenly, she saw Jiang Youwan’s eyes widen drastically as she parted her lips and shouted, “Watch out!”

Before Jiang Jinyi could react, something crashed down from above, slamming into her. An excruciating pain tore through her as she collapsed to the floor.

Just before she lost consciousness, she struggled desperately to call for help. Through her blurring vision, she saw Jiang Youwan stumble frantically to her side. Her eyes were filled with an unprecedented panic, brimming with tears.

Completely frantic, Jiang Youwan pulled Jiang Jinyi into her arms. She pressed her hands over the wound, yelling at the surrounding crowd to call an ambulance.

“Xiao Jin, Xiao Jin, don’t fall asleep. You haven’t heard what I have to say yet. I haven’t given the Jiang Corporation back to you yet. You are not allowed to let anything happen to you! Didn’t you want to make me pay the price? I’m waiting for youโ€ฆ you absolutely cannot let anything happen to youโ€ฆ”

As they waited for the ambulance to arrive, Jiang Jinyi could feel Jiang Youwan holding her, murmuring endlessly. She could even feel the woman’s tears dripping onto her skin.

A split second before she was struck, she had been entirely convinced that Jiang Youwan wanted her dead. But nowโ€ฆ she wasn’t so sure.

Why was Jiang Youwan so frantic? Why was she crying with such heartbreak? Why was there so much terror in her eyes?

It seemedโ€ฆ she really did love her.

This was the first time in four or five years that Jiang Youwan had stepped foot inside a hospital. The atmosphere, the sharp stench of disinfectantโ€”all of it made her nauseous with revulsion. But in the face of Jiang Jinyi’s safety, none of it mattered.

Fear utterly consumed Jiang Youwan’s mind. Her hands trembled violently, and her heart pounded relentlessly. She had to dig her nails into her own fingertips until they nearly bled just to keep herself from completely breaking down.

Nothing could happen to Xiao Jin. Nothing could happen to Xiao Jin.

At this moment, she wanted nothing else. She could let go of absolutely everything, as long as Xiao Jin was safe.

She had followed Jiang Jinyi into the ambulance and watched as she was rushed into the emergency room. In Secretary Lin’s words, she had looked completely deranged.

She could always maintain her composure. She could always remain rational. The only person capable of driving her mad was Jiang Jinyi.

After agonizing for about an hour outside the emergency room, pacing in torment, she finally saw Jiang Jinyi again in a hospital ward. Her Xiao Jin was lying quietly on the bed, dressed in a hospital gown and hooked up to a ventilator. Bandages were wrapped around her head and body. Her face was deathly pale, her breathing faint.

Jiang Youwan’s eyes grew damp. Her heart shattered.

Fortunately, the doctors said she was temporarily out of danger.

However, exactly when she would wake up remained unknown.

The agonizing sensation of her heart being carved by a knife was something she never wanted to taste a second time in this life.

She kept vigil by the bedside for the entire night.

She couldn’t bear to step away, not even for a single moment.

The next morning, Secretary Lin knocked and entered the ward, holding a report. Jiang Youwan was sitting on the edge of the bed, gently stroking Jiang Jinyi’s cheek, her eyes filled with boundless devotion and heartache.

“President Jiang,” the secretary said softly, “the report is outโ€ฆ”

“Shh.” Jiang Youwan pressed an index finger to her lips. She lifted her eyes to look at the secretary, the exhaustion in her gaze impossible to conceal. “Keep your voice down. Xiao Jin doesn’t like it when people disturb her rest.”

“Xiao Jin has a terrible wake-up temper,” Jiang Youwan warned softly. “She gets very fierce if she’s woken up by noise.”

Secretary Lin paused, lowering her volume significantly. “It appears to be an accident. The chandelier at the banquet was old and fell on its own. Fortunately, the entire fixture didn’t land directly on Miss Jiang, so the injuries weren’t as severe as they could have been.”

“An accident?” Jiang Youwan half-closed her narrow eyes as she spoke slowly. “It was not an accident.”

Her voice was soft and measured, yet filled with absolute certainty, exuding a chilling ruthlessness that inspired dread.

The secretary could sense that Jiang Youwan was currently furious, suppressing and tightly holding back her emotions.

“Look into it. Investigate it thoroughly.”

Secretary Lin nodded. “Understood.” She hesitated for a moment before urging, “President Jiang, you should step outside and get some fresh air.”

Jiang Youwan shook her head. “No need. With Xiao Jin here, I won’t feel uncomfortable.”

Since she had put it that way, the secretary couldn’t say much else and quietly left the ward.

Jiang Youwan shifted her gaze back to Jiang Jinyi’s face. Her eyes were incredibly affectionate, as if she were taking advantage of the fact that Jiang Jinyi hadn’t woken up yet to deeply carve her image into her mind, ensuring she could endlessly reminisce and savor it in the future.

Xiao Jin really looked so well-behaved when she was asleep. So well-behaved, and so incredibly cute.

But she only wanted her to wake up sooner. It was fine even if she wasn’t well-behaved.

As long as she was alive, she was willing to endure all of her petulance, willfulness, and terrible temper.
