The Amnesiac Omega Who Reels Me In Every Day – Chapter 30
by Little PandaForcing the Medicine Down
Fever
The Jiang family maid hadn’t been able to sleep since the rain started last night, filled with dread until she arrived at the villa this morning. Only when she saw that there were no flowers left in the courtyard did she let out a thorough sigh of relief.
Jiang Jinyi wasn’t awake yet. The weather had cleared, and the potted plants had been moved back into the courtyard to bask in the sun. It was warm and cozy, making last night’s torrential rainstorm feel like nothing but a dream.
If only it really were a dream.
Past twelve noon, Jiang Jinyi still hadn’t come down from the second floor. Having no choice, the maid went upstairs to check on her. She found Jiang Jinyi completely curled up under the blankets. When she pulled them back, she saw the girl’s face was incredibly flushed. She quickly checked her forehead; she had a fever.
The maid quickly called Dr. Li, then took Jiang Jinyi’s temperature—a high fever of thirty-nine degrees. She had to take some fever reducers right away.
While preparing the medicine in the kitchen, the maid started chatting with another maid.
“How did Miss get such a high fever from just a little rain?” the maid lamented. “It really breaks my heart to see her like this.”
“You’re new here, so you don’t know,” the other replied. “I’ve been with Miss for several years now. She had a major illness when she was younger, and ever since, her body hasn’t been able to handle even the slightest chill. She’s incredibly fragile. You have no idea—every time she got sick, Chairman Jiang would worry herself sick.”
“What kind of major illness?”
“Shh, you absolutely mustn’t talk about that. Chairman Jiang was incredibly touchy about it.”
“But Chairman Jiang isn’t here anymore, is she?”
“Even so, you still can’t say it.”
“We just aren’t allowed to—”
“Is Miss sick?”
Just as they were touching upon the household’s forbidden topic, a third voice suddenly spoke up from behind, startling them. Turning around, they let out a sigh of relief when they saw it was Jiang Youwan.
She stood straight behind them in a long shirt, a few strands of long hair draping over her chest. Her elegant facial features held a high-class, refined air. Even with her eyes closed, she exuded a cold, captivating allure.
The maids stood dazed for a moment. Although they had been around Jiang Youwan for many days by now, they were still stunned by her beauty whenever they saw her.
Jiang Youwan calmly repeated her question.
Snapping out of it, the maid quickly said, “Miss has a fever. It must’ve been from the rain last night. Her fever’s mostly gone down now, but she still needs to take another dose of medicine in a little while.”
Jiang Youwan gave a slight nod. The maid then asked, “Did you want some water? Or are you hungry?”
“Water,” Jiang Youwan said.
“I’ll pour it for you. Would you like it warm or cold?”
Jiang Youwan smiled. “No need to trouble yourself, I’ll get it myself.”
“Oh, alright.”
When Jiang Youwan first arrived here, everyone thought she was pitiful. But after spending more time with her, they noticed a certain issue.
She was amicable to everyone and seemed approachable, yet no one could truly get close to her. She was always perfectly polite, but beneath that courtesy lay a deep-seated aloofness and emotional distance.
They couldn’t help but feel she had an air of mystery about her—an unfathomable, deep mystique.
After mixing the medicine, the maid had to go attend to other chores, so she told the other maid to bring it to Jiang Jinyi in about five minutes.
Not long after Xiao Chen left, the other maid also left temporarily for some other business.
The expensive, framed clock on the wall ticked away second by second, making a high-class, textured sound. Jiang Youwan sat on the sofa, sipping her water mouthful by mouthful. Five minutes passed, yet the maid didn’t return.
Another thirty seconds went by. There were no footsteps around; nobody was approaching.
Jiang Youwan returned to the kitchen. After washing her cup and placing it back in its spot, she carefully felt her way along the marble cabinets until her fingers brushed against a tray. Sitting on it was a cup that was still warm to the touch. Jiang Youwan picked it up with one hand while holding the lid secure with the other. Step by steady step, she walked up the stairs to the second floor.
Jiang Jinyi drifted in and out of sleep, her entire body completely drained of strength, her head dizzy and aching slightly. She had a weak constitution; every fever made her feel miserable, and whenever she was miserable, she would shut herself away and want to cry.
Suddenly, there were two light knocks on her door. Buried under the blankets, she just rolled over and didn’t make a sound.
The door was gently opened, then quietly shut. Jiang Youwan stepped inside. To her, this was a completely unfamiliar environment, yet it didn’t trigger any aversion in her. Every corner of the space was filled with the faint scent of hyacinth pheromones.
When running a fever, pheromones were impossible to control.
Following the scent to where it was thickest, Jiang Youwan carefully felt her way forward with one hand until she stood beside Jiang Jinyi’s bed. She called out softly, “Miss, it’s time to take your medicine.”
“…”
“Miss?” Jiang Youwan called out again.
The bundle under the blankets shifted slightly. “Go away…”
Jiang Youwan said, “It’s time to take your medicine.”
“Go away…”
Feeling her way around, Jiang Youwan carefully placed the medicine on the nightstand. But she didn’t leave. Instead, she reached out and gently tugged back Jiang Jinyi’s blanket, coaxing, “Miss, sit up and take your medicine first.”
Jiang Jinyi kept herself buried, ignoring her as if she’d drifted back to sleep.
Jiang Youwan waited expressionlessly for a moment, calling out a couple more times as if she were just completing a task. Seeing that she was still being ignored, she didn’t plan on bothering any further and turned to leave. But just as she gripped the doorknob, Jiang Jinyi’s weak voice drifted from beneath the blankets, “I feel so bad…”
Her hand froze on the handle. Her brow furrowed slightly, and her hand slowly slipped off the knob, falling back to her side. She turned and walked back to the bedside.
She changed her tone, no longer speaking so gently, and said solemnly, “If you don’t take your medicine, Miss, I’ll tell your mother exactly how you bullied me when she gets back. I’ll embellish every detail to let her know just how bad you are.”
As soon as she finished speaking, the person suffering under the blankets from the fever instantly snapped awake. She threw back the covers and looked up, the woman’s face reflecting in her eyes.
Jiang Jinyi thought she was hallucinating from the fever. She blinked several times to make sure. “Who… who gave you permission to come in?”
This woman had actually dared to barge into her room—her territory—without her consent!
Jiang Youwan precisely captured the anger in Jiang Jinyi’s sweet, trembling, raspy voice—an anger with absolutely no threat to it.
Her voice softened slightly. “The maid prepared the medicine for you, but she seemed to have forgotten while busy with other things. I was worried it’d get cold, so I took the liberty of bringing it up to you.”
Jiang Jinyi’s gaze drifted down. Sure enough, she saw the water cup and pills in her hands, and she froze for a moment, staring blankly as if her brain couldn’t quite function.
Worried the medicine would get cold, so she took the liberty of bringing it up…
“You…”
Jiang Jinyi’s eyes flickered. Blinking her moist eyelashes, she lifted her gaze to look at her, her voice growing a bit weaker. “T-Then you still aren’t allowed to come up…”
What she hated most was when someone entered her territory without her permission.
“Entering my room without my consent is your fault. This Miss’s room isn’t a place just anyone can come into.”
“Yes, it’s my fault.” Jiang Youwan crouched down by the bedside and said softly, “You can blame me however you like, Miss, but please take your medicine first. If you don’t, it’ll really get cold.”
She said softly, “Aren’t you feeling bad? Once you drink the medicine, you won’t feel bad anymore.”
“…”
Jiang Jinyi’s lips moved, her half-vented anger fizzling out like a dying fire. Her head was heavy and dizzy; she didn’t want to be in pain either, but the medicine was truly too awful. Just smelling it made her want to throw up.
Unable to take it, she lay back down under the covers, muttering, “I’m not taking any medicine, go away quickly. I want to sleep.”
Jiang Youwan remained unmoved. “Sleep after you take your medicine.”
She repeated, “If you don’t take your medicine, Miss, I’ll tell your mother exactly how you bullied and humiliated me the moment she gets back. I’ll embellish everything so she knows how bad you are, and she won’t like you anymore.”
“You dare threaten me?” Jiang Jinyi opened her eyes, staring at her in sheer disbelief.
The corners of Jiang Youwan’s mouth curled slightly as she said softly, “I dare. Why wouldn’t I?”
This was far too arrogant!!
Jiang Jinyi’s moist eyes went wide, on the verge of flying into a rage, her face—already flushed from the fever—growing redder as if from anger. She stared at her for a long time before finally choking out, “Y-You… you lied to me…!”
“You o-only promised me last night that you wouldn’t tell Mom!” her voice was raspy, filled with anger.
Jiang Youwan originally thought she would spit out some harsh words like telling her to get out, but she hadn’t expected it to end in a tearful “you lied to me.”
She was a bit stunned. Jiang Jinyi had actually started to cry; her physical discomfort already made her want to weep, and now, being threatened, she felt incredibly aggrieved.
What right did she have to threaten her?
“I hate you! I liked you a little bit yesterday, but now I hate you even more!” Jiang Jinyi’s crying voice became more pronounced as she choked on her sobs, feeling incredibly aggrieved.
Just last night, Jiang Jinyi had been wondering if she was being too harsh on Jiang Youwan. The older girl had protected her flowers and called her her meimei. She was actually quite nice, so maybe she could try accepting her?
She never expected this!
She was just this bad!
Jiang Youwan was stunned again.
“Liked you.”
These words were truly foreign to her; she had never thought that someone would say those three words to her one day.
Much less did she expect…
She pursed her lips. Although she couldn’t see, just hearing the girl’s words, syllable by syllable, allowed her to feel her extreme grievance.
She could imagine what her expression looked like right now.
Was she crying? She must’ve been crying.
The little bit of liking she had at first—had it all turned to hate now?
She suddenly let out a soft chuckle. “If you take your medicine, I won’t tell on you to your mom.”
Jiang Jinyi was very stubborn, saying as she sobbed, “I’m not taking it!”
“Hm?” Jiang Youwan arched an eyebrow.
Jiang Jinyi wiped her tears with her hand, “I can get better on my own even if I don’t take medicine. I’ll be fine after a sleep. Stop bothering me, okay?”
Since being fierce didn’t work, Jiang Jinyi also knew how to act spoiled. Her tone softened a lot, carrying a pleading note.
Jiang Youwan pondered for a moment. “Did you secretly pour out all the medicine the maids brought you before, Miss?”
Exposed, Jiang Jinyi bit her lip, defiant. “So what if I did?”
“Since you get sick so easily, why do you hate taking medicine so much? Can you tell me?” Jiang Youwan asked.
Jiang Jinyi was slightly stunned and asked in return, “If I tell you, will you stop making me take it?”
Jiang Youwan smiled. “You can try.”
Jiang Jinyi blinked, her sluggish brain weighing how trustworthy Jiang Youwan’s words were. After a long pause, she murmured in a tiny voice, “Because when I was little, I had to take a lot of medicine every single day. Now, just looking at it makes me want to throw up.”
Jiang Youwan understood, letting out a soft sigh. “No wonder you’re so fragile.” Catching a cold and running a fever from just a little rain—she was indeed much more delicate than an ordinary Omega.
“Alright, hurry up and go back, I’m going to sleep.” Jiang Jinyi started shooing her away again, but Jiang Youwan shook her head, saying heartlessly, “You have to take it.”
Jiang Jinyi was stunned, staring at her in disbelief. “You lied to me again!”
“Drink it down in one gulp, it’s very fast. Be good, okay?” Jiang Youwan was extremely patient—patient to the point that it terrified Jiang Jinyi.
Feeling extremely miserable, she cursed at her in exasperation, “Liar! Get the hell away from me, I don’t want to see you, you liar!”
“If I get out, I’ll tell your mom everything about how you bullied me. I’ll make her feel sorry for me and scold you, and then she’ll give so much of her love to me instead. Then I’ll take all your things away, and you’ll have nothing left.”
These words, which sounded like scaring a little child, pierced Jiang Jinyi’s heart word by word. Ever since Jiang Youwan came to this family, she’d always been afraid of this.
Not to mention, Jiang Youwan was now saying it herself.
Jiang Jinyi couldn’t believe that this woman, who’d previously been completely obedient to her, would dare speak to her this way, turning on her in the blink of an eye.
This was too much!
Grievance, shame, and resentment tangled together. Already fragile from the fever, she couldn’t bear this anymore, yet she couldn’t fight back. Aggrieved, she burst into tears, fat teardrops rolling down her cheeks and pooling at her chin before dripping onto the blanket and spreading.
“Bastard! Bad woman!” Jiang Jinyi cried and cursed at her. “I’m definitely going to kick you out of this house, just you wait!” She grabbed a pillow and threw it at her, and accidentally, it hit the new wound on Jiang Youwan’s palm.
The originally white gauze was quickly stained blood-red. Jiang Jinyi froze; this was the new wound she’d gotten last night to protect her flowers.
Jiang Jinyi dropped the pillow and didn’t dare to move. Her tears also stopped, frightened by the sight of the bleeding before her. “You…”
Jiang Youwan was exceptionally calm, as if she couldn’t feel the pain. Feeling for the medicine on the nightstand, she sat on the edge of the bed and carefully held it out to her, saying calmly, “You can’t throw me out. Drink it quickly, and I won’t say anything.”
This person had not only invaded her territory and threatened her, but she was even sitting on her bed now.
She had never allowed anyone to touch her bed!
Jiang Jinyi’s eyes were teary, her gaze especially fierce, yet she didn’t dare to touch her.
Jiang Youwan’s other free hand rubbed her head, looking exactly like she was taming a cat with bristling fur—extremely cautious and gentle. “Be good. If you don’t take your medicine, you’ll feel bad, and if you feel bad, my heart hurts too. Drink it, okay? Once you drink it, you’ll be the most obedient darling, and Mom will love you best.”
Jiang Jinyi was still unwilling, wanting to throw up just from the smell of the medicine. She shook her head, “No—”
But to her surprise, before she could even finish the word, the hand Jiang Youwan had been using to rub her head somehow slid down to her cheek. With a hard pinch, she forced her mouth open and poured the medicine straight in.
“Gulp, gulp—”
“Swallow it,” she commanded sternly.
Being force-fed medicine was something Jiang Jinyi had never expected. At this moment, she could only be held in her grasp, her eyes wide in disbelief as she stared at Jiang Youwan, forced to swallow the medicine down. After drinking it, her entire face turned even redder, her eyes moist as if she had suffered terribly.
The glass was emptied. She coughed violently from the disgust, looking as if she were about to throw up what she’d just swallowed. Jiang Youwan raised her hand to pat her back, coaxing, “Alright, Miss isn’t bad at all, and you didn’t bully me. I won’t say a thing, okay?”
“Bastard! Sob… Bastard!”
Jiang Youwan put the glass back on the nightstand. Without giving her a chance to throw a tantrum, she pulled her into her arms. Jiang Jinyi’s head was buried in the large softness of her chest, her ears filled with various gentle comforts as her head was rubbed into complete comfort.
“Be good now. Don’t cry.”
Jiang Jinyi grumbled and swore, “It’s all because of those idiots who didn’t check the weather forecast, making me catch a fever and feel so bad. I’m going to fire them all! Every single one of them!”
“Alright, we’ll fire them all.”
“Alright, I’ll get out.”
“Alright, hurry up and sleep.”
“…”
Jiang Youwan humored her as she spoke; she had quite a knack for soothing people. Jiang Jinyi was already feeling bad, and she quickly grew tired of shouting. Her scolding voice weakened, her physical discomfort gradually overtaken by drowsiness until she fell silent, falling asleep while being held by Jiang Youwan like this.
Sleeping in Jiang Youwan’s arms, Jiang Jinyi was still restless, constantly rubbing against her. Jiang Youwan knitted her brows, her breathing trembling slightly.
She was very good at finding a spot, picking the softest and most comfortable one. At this moment, Jiang Youwan felt like she was her wet nurse.
No longer fierce, she was good now.
Only when the person in her arms had completely fallen into a deep sleep did Jiang Youwan carefully put her back on the bed and tuck her under the covers.
Standing up again, she turned, intending to leave the room.
After tossing and turning for so long, the maid who was originally supposed to bring the medicine finally remembered. She hurried back to the kitchen to check, but the medicine was gone, so she rushed back. Just as she pushed open Jiang Jinyi’s room door, she ran into Jiang Youwan.
The maid was surprised, “You…”
Jiang Youwan closed the door and turned around, a faint smile playing on her lips. “Miss has already taken her medicine and gone to sleep.”
The maid was stunned, wondering when the relationship between Miss and her had softened so much that she’d actually allow her into the room.
“Oh, is that so? Thank you!” After thanking her, she felt a bit of lingering fear. “Speaking of which, you’re really amazing. Even though you can’t see, you could still find Miss’s room.”
“Her pheromones are very strong,” Jiang Youwan said calmly.
“Oh, is that how it is?” The servants of the Jiang family were all Betas and couldn’t smell pheromones, so they didn’t know a blind person could actually find someone this way.
The maid suddenly caught a glimpse of a large wet patch on the fabric of her chest. “Eh, your clothes… why are they so wet?”
Jiang Youwan was startled, then knitted her brows slightly and said, “I accidentally got splashed with water just now.”
“…Oh.” The maid nodded.
Returning to her room, she immediately searched the cabinets, feeling around to find a clean set of clothes to change into.
The chest fabric of the shirt she’d just taken off was completely wet, sticking to her skin uncomfortably—all of it from that Eldest Miss’s tears.
The author has something to say:
Good afternoon, darlings. We’ll return to the main storyline in the next chapter.
