    Red to the Ears

Omegas could lactate, even without being pregnant, but only SSS-class omegas. When an SSS-class omega’s pheromones fused with those of an SSS-class alpha, lactation could occur—but it was a rare probability, uncommon and not frequent. She never expected to encounter it the very first time she smelled Xiao Jin’s pheromones.

Xiao Jin’s pheromones were actually this powerful.

Now she only felt a heaviness in her chest, all of it caused by Jiang Jinyi. The scant fabric of the upper half of her nightgown was already soaked through. She turned her head to glance at the person sleeping soundly beside her, slipped the shoulder strap down, and slowly shifted her body.

Her full curves, now entirely without the comfort of fabric, were exposed to the air. The cold air made her shiver slightly, her nipples hardened from the chill, still bearing traces of milk.

She stroked Jiang Jinyi’s sleeping face, feeling that she was truly wicked and perverse—taking advantage of her sleep, presenting herself in such a manner to her, and even feeling excited about it.

Her thumb pressed against Jiang Jinyi’s lips, pressing gently, waking her with a soft voice: “Xiao Jin, baby…”

Jiang Jinyi, roused by her touch, wasn’t sure if she was truly awake. In her daze, she saw her face—the bare face in the dead of night looked exceedingly gentle and alluring. Jiang Jinyi murmured, as if she would obediently listen to whatever she said.

“Jiejie is lactating, it’s a bit uncomfortable, and it’s all your fault. You need to take responsibility…”

She said this, but Jiang Jinyi wasn’t sure if she understood, staring blankly. Jiang Youwan suspected she wasn’t fully awake yet. She reached out to cradle the back of her head, guiding it upward, then lowered her own body, bringing her breast to her lips.

The moment she touched her lips, Jiang Youwan’s body trembled. She said in a low voice, “Bastard, you made this mess, you drink it up.”

“It’s all your fault, making jiejie’s body like this…”

Jiang Youwan scolded her on the surface, but inwardly she was thrilled. While chiding her, she coaxed her to drink. Jiang Jinyi, in her daze, felt something enter her mouth—the milk was rich and fragrant, and jiejie’s scent was strong too. She licked, found she liked it, and bit down wanting more.

    “Mm…”

Jiang Youwan tilted back her pale, fragile swan neck, her fox eyes narrowing in pleasure. Once Jiang Jinyi got a taste, she became incredibly greedy, taking a large mouthful, as if returning to twenty-three years ago when she was just born, nestled in her mother’s arms, her little head empty of everything except drinking milk, suckling fiercely.

And this milk was truly delicious, with jiejie’s flavor, she loved it so much.

The corners of Jiang Youwan’s eyes reddened slightly, biting her lower lip. She was a bit overwhelmed. Jiang Jinyi wrapped her arms around her waist, rolling her over, climbing on top of her, and continued drinking.

Jiang Youwan looked down at her eager expression, her eyes brimming with doting affection. She gently stroked her head, telling her, “It’s all yours. No one is going to take it from you.”

However much there was, it was all hers.

Morning. Jiang Jinyi was sleeping soundly, but soon not so soundly, because her super-soft pillow was gone.

Less comfortable without it, she woke quickly, still pouting. She slowly opened her eyes, and a smooth, beautiful bare back appeared in her line of sight.

Jiang Jinyi froze, flushing red the moment she woke, immediately closing her eyes, not daring to open them again.

She buried her face in the pillow. Was it her imagination? The pillow seemed to carry a milky scent, a particularly fragrant milky scent.

It felt familiar, but she couldn’t place it right away.

Jiang Youwan unhurriedly pulled up her shoulder strap, slipped on a V-neck top, paired with a pencil skirt below—sophisticated and beautiful, elegant yet sexy. Once dressed, she sat back down on the edge of the bed, one hand bracing against the mattress, eyes lowered as she scraped a finger along the bridge of Jiang Jinyi’s nose, saying gently, “If you’re awake, time to get up.”

Jiang Jinyi opened her eyes to look at her, slightly moist, a hazy feeling, her gaze questioning, as if saying, “How did you know I was awake?”

How could Jiang Youwan not know her little doubts? She teased, “How come a sleeping person’s ears are so red? You must have just peeked at something you shouldn’t have.”

Jiang Jinyi felt guilty—it was exactly as she said. She pouted to express her displeasure, then righteously rolled over and sat up. Jiang Youwan found her expression adorable, her eyes shifting slightly as she helped tidy her somewhat messy bangs, asking, “Did Xiao Jin have any dreams last night?”

    Dreams?

Jiang Jinyi thought for a moment, her mind somewhat blank, unable to recall. She shook her head, puzzled. “Did I say something in my sleep last night?” If so, how embarrassing!

“Not sleep-talking,” Jiang Youwan said. “Sleepwalking.”

    Sleepwalking?

Jiang Jinyi blinked, shifting forward on her knees two steps, tilting her head up to look at her, asking with great curiosity, “How did I sleepwalk? Tell me.”

Jiang Youwan smiled deeply, leaning close to her, and breathed out two words: “Drinking milk.”

    Drinking milk…?

What drinking milk? Jiang Jinyi sat there, utterly bewildered. A knock came at the hospital room door. Jiang Youwan went to open it—it was the assistant delivering breakfast. Jiang Youwan reminded her, “Hurry up and wash up, then eat breakfast.”

Jiang Jinyi washed up, and even after sitting at the table to eat breakfast, she was still in a daze. It wasn’t until she picked up the milk on the table and took a sip that she frowned and said reflexively, “Doesn’t taste good.”

It didn’t taste as good as what she’d had before.

    Doesn’t taste good?

Jiang Youwan was puzzled. “Doesn’t taste good? Isn’t this milk Xiao Jin’s favorite brand?”

Jiang Jinyi also found it strange. She picked up the packaging and checked—it was indeed the brand she always drank, but the taste seemed to be lacking something. Suddenly, a memory crashed into her brain. She froze like a crashed computer, her face turning instantly crimson, as if about to spontaneously combust.

She had actually had that kind of dream last night, and… and sleepwalked…

Oh god, that was too shameful! How could she have such an erotic dream, and about her own jiejie…

Hearing Jiang Youwan’s soft chuckle, Jiang Jinyi didn’t dare look her in the eye at all. She kept her head down, extremely stiff, and continued eating breakfast.

As her emotions surged, her pheromones grew thicker in the air. Jiang Jinyi had no idea how to control them. Her enticing-type pheromones leaked out involuntarily, forcing Jiang Youwan into an involuntary heat first thing in the morning. She punished her by applying a suppressant patch, telling her she wasn’t allowed to peel it off.

Even when the back of her neck hurt, she wasn’t allowed to peel it off. Jiang Jinyi’s eyes reddened, on the verge of tears. “My gland hurts…”

Jiang Youwan shot her a glance. “If it hurts, then calm down. Once you calm down, it won’t hurt.”

    “…”

Her body was no longer in serious condition. Jiang Youwan went to handle Jiang Jinyi’s discharge procedures, and soon after, the two left the hospital.

In the elevator, they stood side by side. Jiang Jinyi was still a bit aggrieved, pouting, looking like she didn’t want to talk to anyone.

Jiang Youwan, in her high heels—her natural height was already around 167 or 168 centimeters, and with heels she was over 170—standing next to Jiang Jinyi, whose barefoot height was 168 centimeters, made Jiang Jinyi appear a bit shorter.

At that moment, Jiang Youwan looked at the mirror behind them and noticed that Jiang Jinyi seemed to have grown a bit taller. She poked her and told her to look. “Xiao Jin seems to have grown a little. We’ll measure when we get home.”

Jiang Jinyi also looked in the mirror. It did seem like a little, but only a tiny bit. Jiang Jinyi thought about the female alphas she’d seen—they were all particularly tall. Like Xu An, who was 175 centimeters. Wen Ye was also over 170.

Looking at her own reflection, she could tell at a glance she was a sweet girl1. Her voice was sweet too—not at all the mature type2, not fierce at all. She looked like she’d be easy to bully, nothing like an alpha.

She thought with some disappointment, it seemed Jiang Youwan was right. An alpha like her would be laughed at.

    Laughed at…

    Hmph.

Jiang Youwan noticed Jiang Jinyi’s low spirits and sighed inwardly, thinking she was still upset about the suppressant patch.

So vindictive, yet she didn’t remember the part where she took advantage.

She’d been so fierce drinking milk last night, and she still felt a little sore now…

A hint of amusement flashed through Jiang Youwan’s eyes. She decided not to coax her for the moment, letting her sulk a while.

The driver wasn’t there—it was Jiang Youwan driving. Jinyi was indeed a bit angry, saying barely a few words the whole way. Jiang Youwan grumbled inwardly about her vindictiveness, then pulled up in front of a cake shop. Jiang Jinyi asked her what she was doing. She smiled and said, “Coaxing someone.”

Jiang Jinyi naturally knew she meant herself. She blinked, watching Jiang Youwan get out of the car and walk into the cake shop.

Jiang Youwan had gotten her hair permed—the curls were more pronounced now, a waist-length cascade of waves, her silhouette exuding effortless charm.

Jiang Youwan herself didn’t have a great interest in sweets, but she frequently visited cake and dessert shops, all to buy treats for her. A woman who was cold and aloof to outsiders, yet gentle only to her, buying cakes only for her—Jiang Jinyi’s mood inexplicably improved. But as her mood lifted, she began overthinking again.

Xu An had said kissing was addictive. So it was all because Jiang Youwan had let her taste that feeling that she now craved it. It was all just biological instinct, not because she liked her… right?

But this self-consoling thought was overturned the very next second.

Jiang Youwan came out of the cake shop carrying a cake. Behind her followed someone—a woman in a floral shirt with long hair, carrying a cake of her own. She was tall, with a strong presence, her features refined and androgynous—the classic look of a natural charmer3, clearly a female alpha.

The kind of alpha that omegas easily fell for.

The female alpha patted Jiang Youwan’s shoulder. Jiang Youwan turned to look. “Is something the matter?”

The female alpha offered the cake in her hand to Jiang Youwan, smiling shyly, then pulled out her phone and displayed her QR code, saying, “Miss, our shop is running a promotion. Add me on WeChat and you get a free cake. Would you like to?”

Jiang Jinyi’s eyes never left Jiang Youwan, not even knowing what she was doing herself, or what she was thinking.

She was incredibly anxious about what Jiang Youwan would do.

Jiang Youwan tossed her hair, tilted her head, glanced toward the car, then smiled at the female alpha and said, “Really? Are you the owner here?”

The female alpha nodded, somewhat captivated by Jiang Youwan’s voice, and said, “I’m the store manager.”

Jiang Youwan: “Then let me scan you.”

    The female alpha smiled. “Okay.”

With a soft beep, Jiang Youwan scanned successfully and sent a friend request. The female alpha handed over the cake, saying she looked forward to her next visit.

Jiang Youwan returned to the car carrying two cake boxes. Jiang Jinyi had already turned her head away, playing on her phone.

Jiang Youwan’s eyes held amusement as she held up the two cakes. “Which one do you want?”

Jiang Youwan had two cakes—one strawberry and one mango. The strawberry one was what Jiang Youwan had bought herself, and the mango one was a gift from the alpha whose WeChat she’d added.

Jiang Jinyi really wanted the strawberry one, but then thought—if she ate the strawberry one, would Jiang Youwan eat the mango one?

She didn’t want her eating something given by someone else.

Jiang Youwan rarely entertained such approaches. Why was she so enthusiastic this time? She’d even seen her smile at that alpha.

Did Jiang Youwan add her WeChat because she found her special, so her first impression was particularly good?

There was such a thing as love at first sight.

Jiang Youwan was nearly thirty. Many people met their destined person before thirty.

At this thought, Jiang Jinyi’s heart felt blocked by something, stifled and uncomfortable.

She discovered she simply couldn’t accept Jiang Youwan treating anyone else the way she treated her, even if it were only a tenth of what she gave her.

Jiang Jinyi said, “I want the mango one.”

“Mango?” Jiang Youwan feigned puzzlement. “Xiao Jin forgot, you hate mango the most.”

Jiang Jinyi startled, remembering that she absolutely hated mango.

She shot Jiang Youwan a look that was half-accusing, half-not, thinking, did she do that on purpose?

Jiang Youwan only smiled gently, thoughtfully removing the packaging of the strawberry cake, placing the fork properly, and handing the cake to Jiang Jinyi.

“Here, eat up. Don’t be mad anymore. Jiejie didn’t let you peel off the suppressant patch because we were leaving the hospital—I didn’t want it to affect you.”

Jiang Jinyi gave a reluctant little hum, forgiving her for the most part, and took the cake, bringing a bite to her mouth. The dense cream melted on her tongue, sweet but not cloying, absolutely delicious.

She glanced at Jiang Youwan, then at the mango cake, and asked tentatively, “Aren’t you going to eat?”

Jiang Youwan blinked. “I’m a bit tempted, but I only want a little. If Xiao Jin is willing to share a bite with me, then I won’t eat this mango one.”

Jiang Jinyi was of course willing, secretly delighted that Jiang Youwan wasn’t very fond of sweets. She scooped a spoonful of strawberry cake, deliberately picking up a strawberry, and brought it to Jiang Youwan’s lips, her peach-blossom eyes4 clear and bright.

Jiang Youwan marveled inwardly—this dummy was practically shouting with her eyes: Hurry up and eat, eat what I’m feeding you, and then you can’t eat what that alpha gave you!

Jiang Youwan brushed the hair at the side of her face back, dipped her head slightly, parted her lips and took the fork and cake into her mouth, then lifted her gaze to look at Jiang Jinyi with sultry, seductive eyes.

Caught by that look, Jiang Jinyi’s heart skipped a beat. Her lashes fluttered, and after withdrawing the spoon, she awkwardly lowered her eyes, scooping cake into her mouth to cover her embarrassment.

Jiang Youwan watched her reaction with playful interest, unable to resist reaching up to ruffle her head, praising her. “Things that Xiao Jin likes to eat are always especially delicious.”

Jiang Jinyi was a little happy, thinking about giving Jiang Youwan another bite. Just then, a message popped up on Jiang Youwan’s phone. They both glanced at it simultaneously—it was that store manager alpha.

Jiang Youwan picked up the phone, reading the message, her hand pausing without typing, seemingly considering how to reply.

Jiang Jinyi saw the message the store manager alpha had sent: [Miss, do you have a girlfriend?]

    Directly making her intentions clear.

Jiang Jinyi frowned, her just-improved mood sinking again, feeling gloomy.

How could this happen? Her mood was being affected by Jiang Youwan far too severely.

She had become so fixated on Jiang Youwan.

She didn’t want Jiang Youwan to keep chatting with her, but would that… be too possessive? If Jiang Youwan found out, would she feel uncomfortable?

Jiang Youwan seemed to have decided on a reply and was about to type when she heard Jiang Jinyi beside her say quietly, “Alphas who proactively approach and flirt outside are all bad women. You shouldn’t get close to them.”

This was something Jiang Youwan had told her before—omegas who proactively threw themselves at you outside are all bad women, you shouldn’t get close to them.

Jiang Youwan suppressed the corners of her mouth from curving up, turned to blink at Jiang Jinyi, and said, “But… I think she seems like a pretty nice person.”

Jiang Jinyi’s pupils dilated slightly, her fingertips clenching tight. The shock and grievance in her eyes were impossible to hide.

Jiang Youwan really did feel differently about her. This was the first time she’d heard Jiang Youwan praise someone she’d only met once and exchanged a word or two with as “pretty nice.”

What was so special about that alpha besides being a bit taller, having slightly more androgynous features, and looking a bit more assertive? There were plenty of female alphas like that on the street.

It seemed Jiang Youwan had reached a ravenous age5 and was viewing alphas through a filter. She wanted to date.

Jiang Jinyi couldn’t find words to refute Jiang Youwan. She turned her face away, stabbing at the strawberry cake, silently expressing her anger.

She felt aggrieved, and a little insecure…

In all her life, Jiang Jinyi had never felt insecure.

She stewed in her own anger, her mind racing with chaotic thoughts, not noticing the sly smile of the person beside her.

Mid-sulk, suddenly the person next to her leaned close, the scent of datura pheromones filling her nostrils. Her heart leaped, and she turned to look.

Jiang Youwan held her phone in front of her—it was the WeChat chat with that store manager alpha.

[Miss, do you have a girlfriend?]

Jiang Youwan’s reply was: [I do.]

The other side seemed to want to press their luck, sending another message: [Really? I’m so curious what kind of girl could be worthy of such an elegant lady.]

Jiang Jinyi froze—Jiang Youwan had actually replied like that.

Jiang Youwan’s voice beside her ear was soft, with a hint of distress. “What should I do? I want to brush her off, but she doesn’t seem to believe I have a girlfriend.”

“What should I do?” Jiang Youwan tilted her head, smiling as she asked.

What should she do? Jiang Jinyi felt her mind go blank for a moment, taking half a second to realize what Jiang Youwan was asking her.

So Jiang Youwan wasn’t interested in that alpha at all!

Jiang Jinyi huffed inwardly, her tone even a bit smug as she said, “Tell her you do have a girlfriend, and she can believe it or not.”

“Ah, wouldn’t that be a bit rude?” Jiang Youwan thought for a moment, then suggested, “How about Xiao Jin pretends to be my girlfriend for a moment? Send her a voice message, okay?”

Pretend to be Jiang Youwan’s girlfriend? Jiang Jinyi’s long lashes fluttered, not quite processing it.

“How would I pretend?” Jiang Jinyi didn’t even realize she was anticipating the answer.

“Mm… just send a voice message for jiejie, saying ‘She’s my girlfriend,’ like that. Can you?”

    Oh, like that.

Jiang Jinyi blinked, took Jiang Youwan’s phone, held down the voice button, and said fiercely, “She’s my girlfriend. What do you want?”

She released the button and sent it.

When she said the word “girlfriend,” Jiang Jinyi felt pink bubbles rising in her head. After sending it, her face grew hotter and hotter—she was definitely blushing! Jiang Jinyi wanted to cover her face immediately, but afraid it would be too obvious, she turned her face toward the window, shoved the phone back into Jiang Youwan’s hand, though she really wanted to see what that alpha replied.

Jiang Youwan couldn’t care less what that alpha replied. Her brain had only one signal: she wanted to kiss her.

Jiang Youwan stared at her unmistakably flushed red ears, her mind filled with that fiercely cute6 declaration of ownership.

Jiang Youwan’s gaze turned profound and deep, fixed on her slightly puffed cheeks. Too adorable. She wanted to kiss her. She wanted to devour her.

    Devour her—impatiently, urgently.

Jiang Jinyi sensed through the glass window that Jiang Youwan was looking at her. Wherever she was being watched, it felt like it was burning—hot and tingling. Jiang Jinyi clenched her hands, trying to stay calm, afraid Jiang Youwan would hear her heartbeat and discover her feelings.

    What were her feelings?

At this question, Jiang Jinyi’s heart beat faster and harder, as if it would leap from her chest to show Jiang Youwan.

Why had Jiang Youwan become so capable of affecting her mood? Just now, her emotions had roller-coastered so many times…

When did it start? Before recently, she’d always seen Jiang Youwan as her biological sister?

Nervousness, the thrill of taboo, excitement…

    She was trembling.

    Jiang Youwan noted inwardly.

Trembling from nervousness over just this little thing. Jiang Youwan thought, truly adorable.

Her heart was endlessly grateful that she had come to the Jiang family. Jiang Jinyi was like a reward for all her suffering, a piece of candy from heaven, held in her palm, reluctant to swallow it in one bite, only daring to sneak a lick now and then to soothe her crumbling heart.

Jiang Youwan clearly understood—she couldn’t live without Jiang Jinyi.

Having seen sunlight, if she were forced back into darkness, she would go mad.

She prayed anxiously in her heart, praying that Xiao Jin would never recover her memories.

A message notification broke the tense and forbidden atmosphere of the moment.

    That alpha had replied.

[Is your girlfriend also an omega? An OO romance? What a pity…] Some alphas were born with a sense of superiority—omegas should naturally be paired with them, they were the finest, and to be with anyone else was a waste.

Jiang Youwan’s eyes narrowed in displeasure as she typed back: [It’s not a pity.]

[If it weren’t her, if it were someone else, that’s when I’d find it a pity.] Whether Xiao Jin was an alpha, an omega, or a beta, it didn’t matter to Jiang Youwan. What mattered was Jiang Jinyi herself.

After sending that, she cleanly and decisively deleted the alpha—keeping her around was an eyesore.

Only then did Jiang Jinyi turn her face back and ask, “What did she reply?”

“Mm, don’t remember,” Jiang Youwan said. “Already deleted her.”

    D-deleted?

Jiang Jinyi’s mood improved uncontrollably. “Let’s go home quick!”

Jiang Youwan looked at her, thinking that if she had a tail, it would definitely be wagging hard.

Definitely a very cute little puppy.

    “Okay, let’s go home.”

After returning home and eating, Jiang Youwan went to the study to work. Jiang Jinyi, still physically weak, played on her phone for a while and was just about to lie down when Xu An suddenly messaged her asking how she was.

[Fuck, seriously? Alpha? Jiang Jinyi, you differentiated into an SSS-class alpha? You didn’t grab the wrong report, did you? Read someone else’s?]

Jiang Jinyi sent an ellipsis back, expressing her speechlessness.

After confirming it was correct, Xu An felt that text wasn’t enough to express her disbelief and sent a voice message directly: “This world is insanely magical. Becoming an SSS-class alpha is like finding gold in sand, and you actually found it. What are you going to do now? Such a soft, delicate alpha, people will laugh you to death.”

Jiang Jinyi: “…” She knew Xu An would mock her. She didn’t even click the voice message, just converted it to text.

“You’d be so popular as an omega…” No wait, Xu An thought again—with Jiang Youwan around, even if she were popular, she probably wouldn’t have the slightest chance to develop anything with anyone else.

Xu An asked curiously, “What was your jiejie’s reaction when she found out you differentiated into an alpha?”

Jiang Jinyi recalled for a moment, then typed: [She laughed at me.]

Xu An continued asking: [That’s it, just laughing?]

It seemed… that really was it.

Being asked by Xu An, Jiang Jinyi suddenly felt disappointed again.

    [That’s it.]

Two words, the disappointment all too obvious.

Xu An thought, Jiang Youwan laughed on the surface but was probably thrilled inside. Xu An couldn’t help but imagine the two of them together in the future in unspeakable scenarios, and quickly slapped herself—how could she do that? Jiang Jinyi had amnesia for so long, and here she was shipping their couple again!

Too immoral! Xu An quickly changed the subject, chatting with her about yesterday’s events.

Almost all of it was cursing Wen Ye.

[Truly hard to believe.] Jiang Jinyi thought about how she’d once idolized her so, and felt a bit hurt.

“Of course it’s true. Do you know what she said to Ji Xiaoqin?” Xu An indignantly relayed all the hurtful things Wen Ye had said to Ji Xiaoqin, getting angrier the more she spoke, as if she wanted to flay Wen Ye alive. “Now Ji Xiaoqin is all mopey and depressed. First time encountering love and getting hurt like this…”

[Give her some time to get over it.] Jiang Jinyi thought for a moment before replying.

“I just can’t bear to see her like this…” Xu An thought about it—Ji Xiaoqin used to like Jiang Jinyi, and probably didn’t anymore, but Jiang Jinyi’s place in her heart was likely heavier than her own.

Though somewhat uncomfortable with that, Xu An still wanted Ji Xiaoqin to be happy.

Besides, Jiang Jinyi had Jiang Youwan now, so there was absolutely zero chance with Ji Xiaoqin.

Xu An suggested, “How’s your body now? Can you come out for a walk? Want to come keep Ji Xiaoqin company for a meal?”

Keep Ji Xiaoqin company for a meal? Jiang Jinyi felt she was just a bit tired now and would probably be fine in a few days. Keeping someone company for a meal should be doable.

    She agreed.

On the other side, Jiang Youwan was getting an update from her secretary about Su Yi’s situation.

Yesterday Su Yi had been taken away by the police, but was released that same night. Apparently Liang Qi hadn’t accused him of assault—she’d said that going to bed with him was consensual, that she’d gotten scared and had second thoughts right as things were about to proceed, struggled, and was misunderstood by someone who’d entered the wrong room.

It seemed she’d overestimated Liang Wei’s feelings for his own sister.

But the conflict had already taken root in their hearts, so there was still some gain—though it had wronged Xiao Jin.

After finishing her work, Jiang Youwan had only been apart for a short while, yet she already missed Jiang Jinyi. Like a drug addiction—if she couldn’t see her, couldn’t hold her in her grasp, her heart itched, restless and eager.

She must be asleep by now. Jiang Youwan, harboring the thought of sneaking a kiss while she slept, pushed open her door.

Jiang Jinyi was sitting on the bed playing on her phone. Seeing the door open, she lifted her gaze. Their eyes met. Jiang Youwan smiled and asked, “Why aren’t you asleep yet? Didn’t you say you were tired?”

Jiang Jinyi looked at her. “Why are you here?”

Jiang Youwan sat on the edge of the bed and said softly, “I thought you were asleep. Came to check if you’d kicked off your blankets. You just differentiated, your body is weak and you catch cold easily. Can’t be kicking off blankets.”

“Is anywhere on your body still uncomfortable?”

Jiang Jinyi shook her head. “Nothing uncomfortable.”

Jiang Youwan was always this attentive to her.

Jiang Jinyi had been enjoying this kind of care and attentiveness from her since not long after she came to the Jiang family.

Taking her as a sister, enjoying it as perfectly natural.

Jiang Jinyi had a sudden whimsical thought—back then, Jiang Youwan must have already known she wasn’t her biological meimei.

So what feelings had driven her kindness back then? Was it the kind of good a sister shows a meimei, or… the kind of liking.

If Jiang Youwan had liked her from the very beginning, harboring those kinds of feelings for her…

Jiang Jinyi didn’t feel frightened or unable to accept it. Instead, she found it thrilling, so taboo.

Jiang Jinyi began overthinking again. Jiang Youwan had no idea about her chaotic and strange thoughts, gently and attentively tucking her in, taking the phone from her hand, telling her to lie down, close her eyes, and be good and sleep.

The gentleness carried a hint of authority—impossible to refuse, and… she didn’t want to refuse.

Jiang Jinyi was both vexed and enjoying Jiang Youwan’s firmness and tenderness, obediently closing her eyes. Jiang Youwan showed no intention of leaving, instead stroking her head, coaxing her to sleep.

This wasn’t the first time Jiang Youwan had coaxed her to sleep. Between them, it was perfectly normal. But being coaxed, Jiang Jinyi had not the slightest drowsiness—her heart was even racing, hoping Jiang Youwan would do something different, something beyond what a sister does for a meimei.

What a taboo thought that was.

Ten minutes passed, and Jiang Jinyi still hadn’t fallen asleep—she was growing more alert by the moment. Jiang Youwan also showed no sign of leaving, continuing to sit at the edge of the bed, looking down at Jiang Jinyi’s sleeping face. She stopped stroking her head and switched to touching her cheek, occasionally giving it a gentle pinch.

But this was still a normal gesture. Jiang Jinyi’s heart began to race. Suddenly, Jiang Youwan softly called her name. “Xiao Jin?”

Jiang Jinyi didn’t answer. She was pretending to sleep, but she was terrified her clumsy acting would be seen through by Jiang Youwan.

When she didn’t answer, Jiang Youwan didn’t call again. With her eyes closed, her other senses amplified infinitely. Gradually, she felt Jiang Youwan’s drawing closer breath and the sound of her breathing.

She held her breath, her hand hidden under the covers gripping the bedsheet tight. Nervous and expectant—she could no longer deny it. She was anticipating Jiang Youwan doing all sorts of strange things to her. She was anticipating Jiang Youwan kissing her.

Just like she’d sneaked a kiss from Jiang Youwan that morning.
