Jiang Jinyi: ???
“What did you just say?” Jiang Jinyi narrowed her eyes, sizing him up from head to toe. She really couldn’t believe a mere employee would talk so big.
“Do you know who I am, that you dare speak to me like that?”
Jiang Jinyi felt that her status in Jiang Corporation was being challenged.
She was the pampered heiress of Jiang Corporation!
“I don’t care who you are. I’m warning you, stop bothering President Jiang!” Ji Yu said aggressively. “President Jiang is very busy and can’t be bothered with you.”
President Jiang and Jiang Corporation had already been pushed into the eye of the storm once because of her. Now she was back again, and who knew what “good deeds” she was here for. Ji Yu’s heart ached for President Jiang; she was already so tired.
He had to stop her.
Jiang Jinyi processed the man’s words, found them hilarious, and couldn’t help but laugh out loud. “You’re warning me not to bother Jiang Youwan?”
“On what authority are you warning me? Who are you? And what if I don’t listen to your warning?”
Ji Yu was choked up by Jiang Jinyi’s retort, his expression turning rigid. He really couldn’t do anything to her.
But…
“Do you think you’re so amazing? Right now, the entirety of Jiang Corporation belongs to President Jiang. No matter what you do, it’s all in vain. Save yourself the—What are you doing?!”
Jiang Jinyi couldn’t be bothered to listen to his nagging. She stepped forward, pinched the employee badge hanging from his chest with her fingers, and glanced at it. After reading it, she released it in disgust, looking at him with amusement. “I am amazing.”
“Ji Yu, a designer in the design department. An employee supported by This Miss’s assets actually dares to be so arrogant to me. Believe it or not, I can have Jiang Youwan fire you, and you won’t be able to find another job in the entire Luo City!”
Ji Yu was startled. He pinched his fingers to keep from showing his panic. “Jiang Corporation belongs to President Jiang! I’m President Jiang’s employee, not someone you can just fire whenever you want!”
Jiang Jinyi paused. Her expression grew subtle as she asked an out-of-the-blue question: “Are you Jiang Youwan’s boyfriend?”
Ji Yu was stunned by her question. His heart skipped a beat. He didn’t dare claim it, but he was unwilling to deny it either. Steeling himself, he stammered, “I—I like President Jiang.”
“So in other words, you aren’t her boyfriend yet.” Jiang Jinyi sneered. Her peach blossom eyes were filled with playfulness, making her look even more arrogant and malicious than him. “I thought you were actually her boyfriend. I was going to say, if you really were, I’d tell her to dump you immediately. You’re not even my brother-in-law, yet you dare be so arrogant with me? Even Jiang Youwan has never had the heart to speak to me so loudly. Look at yourself—are you even worthy?”
These words struck Ji Yu right in his sore spot. He felt utterly humiliated and infuriated, his face flushing deep red. For a long while, he couldn’t utter a single word to refute her.
“Let me tell you, I’m Jiang Youwan’s meimei. What’s hers is mine. If I ask her to fire you, care to guess if she will?”
Ji Yu couldn’t understand how Jiang Jinyi could act so confident and say such things after everything she had done to Jiang Youwan. He wanted to argue, but he realized that he really… wasn’t worthy.
At this moment, Ji Yu’s back was facing Jiang Youwan’s office. Jiang Jinyi happened to see Jiang Youwan push the door open and walk out. Pretending not to see her, she gave Ji Yu an innocent green tea1 expression. Her clear eyes wrote only one message: What can you possibly do to me?
Ji Yu felt he was about to die of anger.
He bit his back teeth hard, a ruthless look flashing across his face. “President Jiang’s things have never belonged to you! You hurt her so badly, how do you have the face to say these things? A person needs face just like a tree needs bark! Have you forgotten the ‘good deeds’ you’ve done?”
“Shut up!”
A harsh scolding rang out from behind, startling Ji Yu. He hurriedly turned around to find Jiang Youwan standing behind him, her face dark, her fox-like eyes overflowing with hostility.
The pressure was overwhelming. As an omega himself, Ji Yu felt his knees go weak. “P-President Jiang…”
Jiang Youwan said coldly, “Yelling and arguing on duty are not permitted inside the company. Aren’t you aware of this?”
Ji Yu immediately lowered his head to admit his mistake, tears nearly welling up. “I’m sorry, President Jiang, I know I was wrong. But it was her!” Ji Yu turned and pointed at Jiang Jinyi, whispering, “She came to bother you again. I saw how busy you were, so I wanted to help you drive her away…”
Jiang Youwan knit her brows, her tone sharp as a blade. “If I remember correctly, your job is only as a designer. It’s not your place to drive anyone away.”
Though he was a grown man, Ji Yu’s voice carried a hint of a sob. “I’m sorry, President Jiang. I spoke out of turn.”
Ji Yu hadn’t expected that when he tried to ease her worries, she wouldn’t show him any face at all, speaking to him in such a fierce tone.
“Aren’t you going to do what you’re supposed to do?” Jiang Youwan asked him.
Ji Yu felt even more wronged, but he didn’t dare say anything else. He slunk away and shuffled into the employee elevator.
He looked up again at Jiang Jinyi. Jiang Youwan had scolded him because he had indeed made a mistake, but given what Jiang Jinyi had done to her in the past, her daring to come look for her now meant she would probably be thrown out too.
Jiang Youwan likely had nothing but hatred left for her.
Yet to his surprise, the moment his guard dropped, Jiang Jinyi’s expression completely transformed. Looking at Jiang Youwan with a pitiful, tearful gaze, her voice also took on a sobbing tone: “Are you going to drive me away?”
Jiang Youwan froze. Her heart felt as though it had been gently pricked by something—tender, aching, and on the verge of melting.
Without an ounce of rationality left to discern whether Jiang Jinyi was just playing pitiful, she walked over to her and couldn’t help but pat her head. She was so gentle that she seemed like an entirely different person from the harsh female CEO who had just been severely reprimanding an employee.
“This is Xiao Jin’s territory, after all. Anyone can be driven away, but never Xiao Jin.”
Xiao Jin’s territory.
???
The elevator doors hadn’t closed yet, and Ji Yu had heard their conversation with absolute clarity.
He felt as though he had been slapped twice across the face, a burning sting left behind.
Even after the elevator doors closed, he was still questioning his life.
“What an annoying, stinky man. He really doesn’t know his place, actually daring to talk back to This Miss.” Jiang Jinyi grumbled as they walked. Jiang Youwan walked shoulder to shoulder with her, quietly listening to her complaints.
“He even warned me not to bother you. Jiang Youwan, why did he say I hurt you? What did I do to hurt you?”
Jiang Youwan’s expression stiffened for a fraction of a second, but Jiang Jinyi didn’t notice. Jiang Youwan quickly regained her composure and said softly, “It’s nothing. Xiao Jin doesn’t need to take his words to heart.”
Jiang Youwan pushed open her office door, and the two of them stepped inside. Jiang Jinyi was not about to let herself be put off by those words. She looked at her, relentlessly pressing, “Jiang Youwan, tell me. What did I actually do to you? Why did he have such a huge reaction and hate me so much?”
Ever since she accepted reality, Jiang Jinyi had become highly curious about what had occurred during those four blank years of her memory. She desperately wanted to know what on earth she had done to Jiang Youwan that would embolden a male omega to act so arrogantly toward her.
Meanwhile, Jiang Youwan was suppressing her own emotions, doing her best to maintain her composure so she wouldn’t show much of a reaction.
The things she had spent so much money and effort to delete and conceal had almost been exposed by that big-mouthed man.
She remembered clearly that she had warned every single employee in the company: under no circumstances were they allowed to mention that previous matter to the Second Miss.
Jiang Jinyi casually sat down in the boss’s chair at the desk. Jiang Youwan rested one hand on the desk, looking down at her. Having her exclusive seat usurped didn’t make her angry in the slightest; on the contrary, she enjoyed it.
Jiang Jinyi was wearing a little dress today, which looked youthful and cute, yet carried a subtle touch of coquettish charm.
She didn’t look like a businessperson at all. She was completely out of place here, yet she exuded a strange, inexplicable sensuality.
She looked more like the boss’s playful and willful pampered wife.
As Jiang Youwan watched her, a sudden restlessness stirred in her heart.
She still held back. This feeling was highly unfamiliar to her—she had never experienced it with anyone else—yet it wasn’t entirely foreign either. Whenever she saw Xiao Jin, she would always feel this way.
“Does Xiao Jin want to know that much?”
Jiang Jinyi said in a soft, sweet voice, “Yes, really. Tell me quickly.”
Jiang Youwan let out a soft sigh, her expression tinged with a bit of helplessness. “Before, you lost your temper with me and were a bit fierce. He happened to see it, so…”
Losing her temper with Jiang Youwan, and a bit fierce?
Jiang Jinyi had already stopped caring about that man. She knit her brows and pressed further: “Why did I lose my temper with you?”
She wasn’t someone who threw tantrums for no reason, and she rarely lost her temper with Jiang Youwan unless Jiang Youwan deliberately teased her. Only then would she act fierce.
Why indeed?
Jiang Youwan didn’t want to recall that piece of memory at all.
Jiang Youwan looked at her tenderly, but her smile was somewhat bitter. She said in a low voice, “Because I accidentally snapped the string of Buddhist beads that Xiao Jin went to pray and get for me. Xiao Jin wasn’t in a very good mood back then, so you lost your temper at me.”
So that was why.
No wonder.
Even though she knew Jiang Youwan must have done it accidentally, Jiang Jinyi still complained slightly, “Why were you so careless?”
“I’m sorry. I’ll re-string them when we get back so they’re exactly the same as before, okay?”
Jiang Jinyi shook her head, her tone exceptionally firm: “No.”
“Hmm?” Jiang Youwan looked a little aggrieved. “Is Xiao Jin going to lose her temper at me again?”
Having looked aggrieved for barely a second, Jiang Jinyi suddenly pulled out a string of Buddhist beads2 from somewhere. She spread her palm and held them out, presenting them before her.
The Buddhist beads had already been re-strung, looking no different from how they originally were.
Jiang Youwan was startled for a moment. Then, a gentle and pleasantly surprised smile bloomed on her face. Her previous grievance, heartache, and gloom were all swept away by a soft cloud. That cloud sat in her heart, soft and incomparably comfortable.
She took the beads and held them before her eyes to examine them closely. A faint, bright light shone in her pupils as she murmured, “Xiao Jin…”
Jiang Jinyi looked at her with pure, harmless eyes, a trace of small pride at having successfully surprised her playing on her face. “Xiao Yu always runs into your room. I originally went in there to look for cat treats, but I accidentally found this, so I re-strung it for you.”
Jiang Youwan lifted her eyes, staring deeply at her.
Jiang Jinyi had no idea of the dark undercurrents surging in her heart. She warned her, “You’re absolutely not allowed to break it again. If you break it again, the spiritual power inside will lose its effect.”
Jiang Youwan nodded, saying softly, “Alright.”
She smiled at Jiang Jinyi. “What made Xiao Jin think of coming to the company? Did you come specifically to deliver the Buddhist beads to me?”
Jiang Jinyi would never admit that she had come all this way specifically to deliver the beads to Jiang Youwan. She had only brought them along on a whim. She was mostly just bored, and, well, wanted to let her know that she was going to Beicheng in a few days.
She shared her plans with Jiang Youwan. Jiang Youwan nodded and said, “I’m very happy.”
Jiang Jinyi asked, knowing the answer full well, “Happy about what?”
“Happy that Xiao Jin can be happy.”
Jiang Jinyi struck while the iron was hot: “So, I’m going to Beicheng in three days with Ji Xiaoqin.”
Jiang Youwan froze, her gaze darkening slightly. An imperceptible undercurrent rippled through her eyes as she asked softly, “Is it already set?” Her tone was a bit heavier than before.
“Yeah. I already had her book the flight tickets for three days from now.”
Jiang Youwan pursed her lips. “Why didn’t you discuss it with jiejie first?”
Jiang Jinyi swallowed. She hadn’t thought it was a big deal, but being questioned by Jiang Youwan like this made her feel inexplicably guilty. She didn’t know if it was just her imagination, but Jiang Youwan’s words seemed to carry a trace of resentment.
It was the same feeling as that night when she had called her a bad woman—a feeling that she was going to devour her.
The kind of eating where she wouldn’t even spit out the bones.
Jiang Jinyi gave herself a fright. She said softly, “Isn’t it all the same? Anyway, I’m free anytime, so three days from now is fine.”
Jiang Youwan fell silent for a moment before letting out a soft, compliant hum.
At the same time, a knock sounded on the office door.
Jiang Youwan turned her head. “Come in.”
The secretary and assistant walked in one after another. The secretary was holding documents while the assistant carried a bag containing food.
The assistant laid out the food on the table in front of the sofa. Jiang Jinyi chose a bowl of noodles to eat. The secretary set down the documents and couldn’t help but glance at Jiang Jinyi, who was casually sitting in the boss’s chair that exclusively belonged to Jiang Youwan—yet she completely lacked the prickly arrogance from last time.
She had become well-behaved.
She was so obedient, and even a bit charmingly naive—a naturally elegant, wealthy, silly beauty.
Secretary Lin quickly averted her gaze and began giving Jiang Youwan a brief report on her work.
When facing her secretary, Jiang Youwan’s presence, gaze, and tone all turned noticeably colder, transforming her into a stern superior. Before the secretary left, she also instructed her to have Ji Yu from the design department go to the finance department to settle his wages and severance pay.
After the secretary left, Jiang Jinyi poked at the noodles in her bowl with her chopsticks, a hint of smugness in her eyes. “You really fired him?”
Jiang Youwan smiled, mimicking her tone, “Yes, I fired him.”
She guessed that when Xiao Jin was arguing with him earlier, she must have said something like:
“In a bit, I’ll have Jiang Youwan fire you!”
Four years ago, Xiao Jin had said this exact phrase to many people in the company. She had looked incredibly fierce back then, but it was a cute kind of fierce.
Jiang Youwan deeply enjoyed Jiang Jinyi’s unprincipled trust and reliance on her. She loved the feeling of Jiang Jinyi “throwing her weight around” by relying on her power.
“Next time you want to go somewhere, remember to discuss it with me first, okay? Xiao Jin doesn’t remember anything right now, and jiejie is worried you’ll be taken advantage of.” Jiang Youwan peeled a shrimp and held it to Jiang Jinyi’s lips, bringing up the matter again in a warm, gentle voice, discussing it with her.
Jiang Jinyi blinked and ate the shrimp, giving a soft, affirmative murmur.
She felt that although Jiang Youwan’s aura was much sharper than it had been four years ago, when she chose to be gentle, she was softer than ever. Like a pool of warm water clinging to you, she would make quiet requests, letting you obediently listen to her.
Jiang Jinyi took Jiang Youwan’s kindness for granted, fully enjoying it.
Who could refuse such exclusive tenderness?
But as her thoughts drifted, Jiang Jinyi couldn’t help but wonder: if Jiang Youwan actually started dating an alpha in the future, would she also be this gentle to her alpha?
She couldn’t help but picture the scene—Jiang Youwan holding someone else, speaking in a tender voice, her eyes curved in a seductive smile…
No way!!!
Just imagining it made every cell in Jiang Jinyi’s body recoil in resistance. She bit her lower lip hard, grimacing as she stabbed fiercely at the bowl. She didn’t even realize that her appearance looked exactly like a fierce, bristling kitten.
Seeing this, Jiang Youwan leaned over and pressed a thumb against her lower lip, very gently rescuing Jiang Jinyi’s lip from her teeth.
Jiang Jinyi seemed deeply lost in her thoughts, letting her do as she pleased. Looking at the lip that had been bitten a bright crimson, a layer of dark, inscrutable emotion clouded Jiang Youwan’s eyes. She asked softly, “What is it?”
Suddenly, Jiang Jinyi turned her head to meet her gaze, staring intently at her with an exceptionally firm attitude. “You’re not allowed to date anyone else!”
Jiang Youwan was taken aback, her elegant brows arching slightly. “Hmm?”
Jiang Youwan felt her heartbeat growing increasingly intense. Her red lips parted slightly. “Why?”
“You just can’t!” Jiang Jinyi became extremely domineering, gripping Jiang Youwan’s slender wrist. “Don’t date anyone.”
She was stunning, her clear eyes reflecting Jiang Youwan’s seductive yet gentle face.
Their eyes met, but each harbored her own thoughts—one out in the open, the other lurking in the shadows.
“But…” Jiang Youwan deliberately acted a bit troubled, saying, “Jiejie is already twenty-nine years old this year, Xiao Jin.”
Twenty-nine years old was an age of emptiness, loneliness, and craving.
Every omega had to go through heat at regular intervals, and heats after the age of thirty would only become increasingly intense. As an omega herself, Jiang Jinyi knew exactly how agonizing it was to spend a heat alone. If one had a partner, they wouldn’t have to endure such torture.
It was indeed time to date.
How could Jiang Jinyi not know this?
She was stunned. She hesitated for a long while. Looking unwilling but forced to compromise, she slowly let go of Jiang Youwan’s wrist.
“Th-then fine,” she said, highly reluctant.
“Why doesn’t Xiao Jin want me to date?” Jiang Youwan coaxed, guiding her along.
Jiang Jinyi knew she couldn’t be so selfish. Jiang Youwan had her own life too; she couldn’t revolve around her, her meimei, forever.
Yet the moment she imagined someone else replacing her position in Jiang Youwan’s heart, she felt suffocated and incredibly angry.
She knew what she was saying was highly unreasonable, so she spoke in a very, very quiet voice: “I don’t want you to share your goodness with anyone else. You’re not allowed to be this gentle to others either. Your goodness… you’re not allowed to share a single bit of it with anyone else.”
What should I do?
At this very moment, a voice in the depths of Jiang Youwan’s heart asked.
Her heart was beating rapidly. The greed buried in the deepest recesses of her soul was eager to break free from the shackles of rationality. Xiao Jin was simply too cute.
So cute that she couldn’t help but want to desecrate her. She held back, but her sanity was locked in a fierce struggle, on the verge of collapsing.
She so craved that instead of letting go of her wrist, Jiang Jinyi would grip it even tighter.
The author has something to say:
Jiejie: I’m doomed, I’m about to lose control.
Xiao Jin: Then don’t hold back!
