    Jealous and Angry

    “Then will you date me?”

Jiang Youwan was stunned for a moment. Wiping away her tears, Ye Xian ran toward her and threw herself directly into her arms, wrapping her hands tightly around her waist. The red mark on her fair face was shockingly prominent. Standing to the side, President Ye saw that his daughter had been struck and was naturally furious. “President Jiang, what is the meaning of this?”

Jiang Youwan didn’t speak. Frowning, she pushed Ye Xian away. Standing beside her, Secretary Lin hurriedly intervened, “My apologies, President Ye… I’m sure there’s been some kind of misunderstanding.”

“There’s no misunderstanding. She’s exactly the one I wanted to slap!”

Jiang Jinyi found the scene before her deeply grating. It only amplified the grievance she felt from Ye Xian’s words earlier. Her chest tightened, and she felt as if a giant hand were squeezing her heart, suffocating her. Leaving them with those words, she turned and sprinted out.

Running all the way to the restroom, she washed the hand she had just used to slap Ye Xian’s face. Yet she didn’t quite dare to look up at herself in the mirror, terrified of seeing her own pathetic tears.

She was absolutely furious. She was truly about to burst with anger!

What right did that woman have to speak to her like that? What right did she have to sit in Jiang Youwan’s seat, to crawl into Jiang Youwan’s arms, and to meddle in her affairs with Jiang Youwan?

Just because she was Jiang Youwan’s partner in a marriage alliance…? Jiang Youwan’s future wife, her future sister-in-law?

For the first time, Jiang Jinyi felt that the words “marriage alliance” and “wife” were incredibly sharp and piercing.

But what rankled her even more was that Jiang Youwan would vent her hardships to her.

Not only Ye Xian, but also that male omega from some time ago had said similar things to her, questioning how she still had the nerve to stay with Jiang Youwan, accusing her of hurting Jiang Youwan.

During those four years of blank memory, what on earth had she done to hurt Jiang Youwan that made everyone around her sister detest her so much?

For the first time, Jiang Jinyi tried desperately to remember, but she still couldn’t recall anything. Her head throbbed with a splitting pain, and her face suddenly turned pale.

“Hey, did you see that just now? The Second Miss is causing trouble again. She really never stops, does she? This time she slapped Ye Xian twice. President Ye was so furious his face turned completely black. I’m really worried this partnership with Ye Corporation might fall through. If it really goes down the drain, all of President Jiang’s hard work during this period will be completely wasted…”

“Exactly. The Second Miss is such a burden to President Jiang. If not for her, would President Jiang even be in this state right now?”

    “I really wish she’d just stop…”

She pushed open the restroom door, and the two employees’ conversation cut off instantly. Jiang Jinyi stared at them. Within a single second, the two fled in panic as if they’d seen a ghost. But every single word they said had already pierced Jiang Jinyi’s heart.

She finally understood why the people of Jiang Corporation looked at her with such strange eyes. They all hated her. They hated her because she was a burden to Jiang Youwan, because she always caused trouble for Jiang Youwan.

Before she lost her memory, she must have done so many things to hurt Jiang Youwan.

In this very place where she’d confidently declared, “This is my territory” just moments ago, she now couldn’t bear to stay for even another second.

Jiang Jinyi composed her expression, walked through the crowd with relative calmness, and left the suffocating building.

She didn’t go home. Instead, she walked aimlessly through the city streets. Driven by a mixture of petulance and grievance, she secretly hoped her phone would ring, only to realize belatedly that she’d left it in Jiang Youwan’s office. Even if Jiang Youwan wanted to call her, there was no way.

The originally clear sky was covered with dark clouds in a matter of moments. Recalling that today’s weather forecast had predicted rain, she figured it’d start pouring soon. Since she was close to Xu An’s residence, she decided to head there to shelter from the rain.

After walking on foot for nearly half an hour, she rang the doorbell. The door was quickly opened, and Xu An looked at her in surprise. “You actually came?”

Jiang Jinyi walked inside without expression, pulling the door closed behind her.

“Jiang Youwan just called a moment ago to ask if you were here. I only hung up recently, and here you are.”

    “She called to ask?”

Jiang Jinyi lowered her eyes, remaining silent.

“What’s wrong? If you don’t tell me, how am I supposed to help you figure things out?”

“Xu An…” Jiang Jinyi softened significantly, looking at her as she asked, “During those four years I forgot, did I do a lot of bad things and cause a lot of trouble for Jiang Youwan?”

Xu An was taken aback, but she quickly suppressed the surprise in her eyes, adopting an analytical front. “Why do you ask that?”

Jiang Jinyi dejectedly recounted the whole story.

“What?! She’s actually going through with a marriage alliance?” Xu An’s jaw nearly dropped.

“That woman lectured me right to my face in such an arrogant tone. Then, when Jiang Youwan was about to arrive, she slapped her own face. I couldn’t stomach it, so I slapped her right in front of Jiang Youwan, and then she immediately threw herself into Jiang Youwan’s arms…” Jiang Jinyi didn’t even realize how incredibly sour her voice sounded.

    “Fuck, that’s so fucked.”

Jiang Jinyi didn’t know because she had amnesia, but how could Xu An not know? Jiang Youwan liked Jiang Jinyi. Since she liked her, why was she still pursuing a marriage alliance? Did she want to play both sides for the sake of Jiang Corporation?

“Let me ask you, did I really do a lot of things to hurt Jiang Youwan in the past?” Jiang Jinyi looked at her, her eyes desperate for an answer.

“Uh, well…” How could Xu An dare tell her? She answered vaguely, “It wasn’t exactly hurting her. It’s just that you were a bit too headstrong, so you… caused her a bit of trouble here and there. It wasn’t that serious.”

Jiang Jinyi lowered her head. It was true, then.

She really had done a lot of things to hold Jiang Youwan back and hurt her.

That was why the people around her sister couldn’t stand it, and why one person after another had come to tell her things like, “How do you still have the face to show up here?”

Seeing her so dejected and full of self-blame, Xu An quickly said, “It wasn’t even that bad, so don’t overthink it. Everyone can see how much Jiang Youwan dotes on you. She’s your jiejie, after all. The two of you… you’re each other’s closest family. You don’t need to take what other people say to heart.”

Xu An’s words brought some small measure of comfort to Jiang Jinyi, but she remained anxious and distressed.

If the partnership between Jiang Corporation and Ye Corporation really fell through because of her this time, wouldn’t all of Jiang Youwan’s hard work go to waste?

Jiang Youwan would hate her, wouldn’t she? Even if she didn’t say it out loud, she’d still harbor resentment in her heart.

And if Jiang Youwan really did enter a marriage alliance with Ye Xian…

Then Jiang Youwan would have a wife. Who would be more important to her in the future?

Of course, this marriage alliance might just be nonsense made up by Ye Xian, that social-climbing bitch.

But she was just incredibly irritated, not only because of the marriage alliance, but also… and also…

    “Ah… How incredibly frustrating.”

This was one of the very few worries Jiang Jinyi could recall having. Staring at the window blurred by the rain, a complex mix of grievance, self-blame, anger, and guilt lingered in her heart—contradictory yet completely inescapable.

She didn’t want Jiang Youwan to date anyone, but Jiang Youwan couldn’t possibly remain single forever. She had her own life.

She had no right to interfere, and yet…

Just thinking that Jiang Youwan was highly likely comforting Ye Xian at this very moment made her feel deeply miserable.

“Why don’t I take you home?” Xu An suggested.

Jiang Jinyi said, “I don’t want to.”

“Then where do you want to go? Do you want to stay over at my place tonight?”

“I don’t want to go home so soon.” Jiang Jinyi pursed her lips, looking up at her. “Xu An, take me out to have some fun. Don’t you know plenty of fun places?”

Xu An was startled. “What do you want to do?”

“Anything.” Jiang Jinyi stood up, pulling at her sleeve, her gaze intensely resolute. “Hurry up and take me.”

Xu An hesitated for a moment but ultimately gave in.

She didn’t dare take Jiang Jinyi anywhere too wild, so she brought her to a small quiet bar1. To save her own skin, she also secretly sent a text to Jiang Youwan, letting her know where Jiang Jinyi was.

The quiet bar wasn’t crowded at all. It was peaceful, with someone holding a guitar and singing on the stage. Knowing that Jiang Jinyi couldn’t handle her liquor, Xu An ordered her a low-alcohol cocktail. As the two of them curled up on the sofa, Jiang Jinyi looked a bit skeptical. “Xu An, is this the fun place you were talking about?”

Xu An replied with a straight face, “What else would you call fun? Whenever I’m stressed out, I like to come sit here and listen to music. Look, that girl on the stage sings so beautifully, and she’s really good-looking too.”

Jiang Jinyi turned her head to look. The girl was indeed very beautiful, with slightly sharp, handsome features and a rich, magnetic voice that was incredibly charming.

Jiang Jinyi pondered for a moment, then asked, “Can I have her sing specifically for me? I want to request a song.” She thought to herself with irritation that since Jiang Youwan was about to enter a marriage alliance, it was time for her to find a partner of her own to dilute her dependency on her sister.

That would be best for everyone.

“Y-Yes, you can… as long as you have the money.”

Of course Jiang Jinyi had money; she had more than enough.

And so, as a matter of course, she had the resident singer called over to her.

As soon as the singer drew near, Jinyi realized she was an alpha, emitting a faint lime scent. She was indeed good-looking, with delicate features and bright eyes.

Jiang Jinyi requested two songs at random and sipped her drink as she listened. Before she knew it, her mind began to wander. When the girl finished singing, Jinyi didn’t even offer a word of praise; she was just lost in her own thoughts.

Unable to watch any longer, Xu An nudged her shoulder and whispered a reminder, “She’s calling you.”

Only then did Jiang Jinyi snap back to reality. The alpha was smiling gently at her, asking softly, “What are you thinking about? Is something on your mind?”

Jiang Jinyi didn’t speak. She did indeed have something on her mind, so she simply nodded.

The singer had met all kinds of people and seemed to quickly read Jiang Jinyi’s worries. She chuckled and said, “You know, the best way to forget your troubles is to plunge right into a sweet relationship.”

    “A sweet romance heals everything.”

Xu An blurted, “Huh? What kind of nonsense is that?”

Jiang Jinyi had never been in a relationship, but she’d heard of this theory before. People always said that love could heal everything, that romance made people foolish, and that it’d fill a person’s entire heart and mind with only that one person.

Jiang Jinyi couldn’t help but wonder: though Ye Xian was arrogant, her face was indeed beautiful. And she liked Jiang Youwan so much. Once they entered the marriage alliance and lived under the same roof, would Jiang Youwan fall in love with her?

Jiang Youwan doted on her so much right now, but if her sister got into a relationship, wouldn’t she just cater to that woman’s every whim?

When that time came, there wouldn’t be any room left for her in her sister’s heart.

The more Jiang Jinyi thought about it, the sourer she felt, and the more unwilling she was to back down. Her brow furrowed. Out of sheer petulance, she asked the guitar-holding female alpha directly, “Then will you date me?”

She wanted to date before Jiang Youwan did. She wanted to have someone she liked before Jiang Youwan did. She wanted to have her heart and mind filled with someone else before Jiang Youwan did.

The female alpha was stunned for a moment, then laughed heartily. “You’re in such a rush? It seems whatever’s troubling you must be incredibly frustrating.”

Xu An was so shocked it took her a long moment to find her voice. She stared at Jiang Jinyi in disbelief. “Are you… are you fucking serious?!”

How could she not be serious?

Jiang Jinyi stood up from the sofa, clenching her fists, and asked the alpha in front of her seriously, “Are you willing to be my girlfriend?”

The female alpha could tell at a single glance that Jiang Jinyi was a wealthy young lady, draped in luxury brands from head to toe. How could she possibly refuse?

Her lips parted, and she was just about to say yes when her gaze was suddenly drawn to the person standing behind Jiang Jinyi. Meeting that person’s eyes, a sudden chill made her entire body freeze, and she hurriedly averted her gaze.

“Y-You…” She wanted to ask if her girlfriend had arrived, but she didn’t dare to assume.

“Hmm?” Jiang Jinyi also sensed someone behind her. She turned around, her pupils dilating instantly as a wave of grievance rushed to her heart. Her voice turned incredibly fierce. “W-Why are you here?”

Jiang Youwan’s face was dark, her eyes pitch-black. Parting her lips, she didn’t answer her question, asking instead, “Xiao Jin wants her to be your girlfriend?”

For some unknown reason, Jiang Jinyi felt a sudden pang of guilt. She toyed with the hem of her shirt. Standing to the side, Xu An quickly tried to smooth things over. “No, Jiang-jiejie, Xiao Jin is just joking. She’s just talking out of anger, just talking out of anger.”

Jiang Youwan ignored Xu An completely, her eyes fixed solely on Jiang Jinyi. “Hmm?”

This posture felt exactly like a child caught red-handed by a parent, making it seem as though she’d done something terribly wrong. Jiang Jinyi stubbornly doubled down, “Yeah, so what? Am I not allowed to date? I’m already twenty-three. It’s the age of free love!”

Jiang Youwan stared deeply at her. The datura scent radiating from her grew increasingly intense, diffusing alongside a biting chill that made the surrounding air feel like an ice cellar.

Jiang Jinyi had no idea how hard Jiang Youwan was struggling to suppress her rage at this moment. Jealousy spread wildly through Youwan’s heart, threatening to consume her sanity. She coldly declared, “As long as I forbid it, don’t even think about dating.”

Jiang Jinyi’s eyes widened. “On what grounds?!” On what grounds did Youwan get to have a marriage alliance, while she herself was forbidden from dating?

    On what grounds?

The corners of Jiang Youwan’s lips curled into a faint sliver of a smile—a cold sneer so chilling it was utterly terrifying.

She grabbed Jiang Jinyi’s wrist without another word, domineeringly dragging her outward. She pulled with immense force, using a level of strength she had never once used on Jiang Jinyi before. Unable to break free, Jiang Jinyi was pulled straight out of the quiet bar.

The guitar-holding alpha had long since fled. Only Xu An remained on the sofa, letting out a heavy sigh for Jiang Jinyi.

Damn it, that woman Jiang Youwan is way too terrifying. When she’s around, you don’t even dare to breathe.

Xu An lifted her unfinished drink to her lips. Casting a casual glance elsewhere, she suddenly spotted a familiar figure and narrowed her eyes.

Not far away, Wen Ye was sitting on a sofa, cradling a woman in her arms who was feeding her wine. And…

    That woman wasn’t Ji Xiaoqin.
