    You Are a Liar

    Hated

It shouldn’t have been like this.

Of all the tasks assigned to Jiang Youwan since childhood, picking Xiao Jin up from school and bringing her home was her absolute favorite.

She cherished this privilege of hers.

When Xiao Jin got out of class, she might be happy, angry, or down.

If Xiao Jin was happy, she would smile at her adorably—the soft contours under her eyes, her dimples, her laughing eyes.

She would chatter away in a sweet tone, saying the cutest things. She would share whatever delicious snack she found, watching her eat with eyes full of expectation before declaring triumphantly, “Good, right~?”

If she was angry or upset, Youwan gained another exclusive privilege: gently patting her head, holding her close, and coaxing her back to smiles.

Whenever Xiao Jin was especially heartbroken, she would lean heavily on her, clinging to her and calling her jiejie.

There were times when she threw tantrums, refusing to get in the car. Pouting angrily, she would trudge off alone with her backpack. When Youwan got out to coax her, Xiao Jin would huff tsundere-style, “I’m not talking to you.”

Fierce and prideful as she acted, Xiao Jin was silly at heart; it took only a few moments to soothe her and lead her back to the car by the hand.

In every scenario, on every single day, Jiang Youwan had felt like she was living in bliss.

Never—no matter what—had it been like this, where Jiang Jinyi looked at her with pure disgust.

Xiao Jin rarely acted sweet or spoiled, yet now she would rather play sweet to get someone else to pick her up than let Youwan anywhere near her.

She had stripped away her privilege of bringing her home.

Jiang Youwan pursed her lips. Her spine was straight, elegant and composed as always, yet every inch of her radiated desolation and embarrassment.

Jiang Jinyi stood barely five meters away, explaining to her classmates how Xiao Yu had died. She was explaining it to them, but Youwan knew she was saying it to remind her.

Amid the crowd, where everyone wore pristine white school uniforms, Xiao Jin was the brightest and most dazzling of all—pure, clean, full of youthful radiance.

For the first time, Jiang Youwan felt a suffocating anguish coupled with total helplessness.

“Ah, Xiao Yu was actually thrown away by her? I take back what I said before—I don’t envy you at all! If I had a sister who threw my cat away like garbage, I’d fight her to the death!”

“She isn’t even your biological sister? That’s terrifying… Why haven’t you kicked her out yet?”

“She must be a habitual liar. Taking advantage of how gullible you are, Xiao Jin, she lied to you about so much…”

“She’s dangerous. Xiao Jin, don’t ever get close to her again. You shouldn’t get into her car either—what if she throws you out somewhere too?”

Three or four girls clustered around Jiang Jinyi, hurling accusations against Jiang Youwan. Listening to their words, Xu An felt the lingering guilt and unease in her chest instantly dissolve into a sense of self-righteous relief.

Amid the noisy chatter, Jiang Jinyi barely paid attention to what they were saying. She raised her eyes to look at Jiang Youwan. She was still standing there, her figure desolate, her face pale and drawn.

She no longer looked so calm and collected—she was probably burning with shame. That was exactly the effect Jiang Jinyi wanted.

Her phone suddenly rang. It was Fu Mingyue. Jiang Jinyi dismissed the girls around her and answered. Fu Mingyue was almost there and confirming her location.

“I’m standing right next to the big stone lion at the school gate! Yes, the lion on the right.” Jiang Jinyi spoke into the phone, her voice exceptionally sweet and obedient.

Jiang Youwan’s brows knitted together, a flicker of jealousy flashing in her eyes. She opened her mouth and said, “Xiao Jin, it’s best not to let people you aren’t familiar with take you home.”

“Then who should I go home with? Go home with an imposter like you?” Jiang Jinyi put away her phone. Her gaze toward Youwan was cold and repulsed, a stark contrast to her sweet, docile tone a moment before.

“Do you think I’m easy to walk all over? Do you think if I throw a fit for a few days, it’ll pass? That I’ll just forget, stop caring, and pretend nothing happened so things can go back to how they were?”

    “…”

“What must I do for Xiao Jin to stop being angry?” After a long silence, Jiang Youwan asked her.

Jiang Youwan asked her with helpless, desperate humility, “What can I do to make amends? How can I make Xiao Jin a little happier?”

“I’m sorry,” she said softly. “Xiao Jin can demand anything of me.”

“Demand anything of you…” Jiang Jinyi found the words laughable. “What could I possibly want from you? Can you bring Xiao Yu back to me? You can’t. What else could you do?”

“You imposter! You eat my family’s food, use my family’s things, and live in my family’s house—what could you give me?” Jiang Jinyi suppressed her rising emotion, her voice dropping into a harsh chill. “What if I want a bastard like you to get the fuck out of my house right now?”

    Get out of my house.

    What familiar words.

Xiao Jin had said the same thing several months ago.

Back then, Jiang Youwan had felt nothing. She had merely thought, So the Eldest Miss of this household is so fierce? Instantly, she had pictured a cat with its fur bristling.

It had been a little cute.

Now, however, it was completely different. Entirely different.

Jiang Youwan felt a bitter pang, her eyes dimming with hurt. “Does Xiao Jin really want me to leave?”

Jiang Jinyi let out a mockingly cold laugh. “Have you forgotten? You know better than anyone whether the identity of ‘Jiang Youwan’ was stolen by you. If I didn’t want you gone, what should I do—keep a thief in my home? Keep raising her until one day she steals the entire house out from under us without anyone noticing?”

Jiang Jinyi’s smile was striking, but the words leaving her lips were brutally cruel.

Jiang Youwan felt somewhat ridiculous. She couldn’t refute a word spoken against her, yet she actually felt a wave of wronged sorrow.

The only thing she could refute with a clear conscience was: “I will never hurt Xiao Jin.”

Jiang Jinyi shook her head, enunciating every single word: “I don’t believe liars.”

Jiang Youwan froze. A lump lodged in her throat; a chill spread upward from the soles of her feet.

“Everything about you is fake. How am I supposed to believe you?”

“Just you wait. Enjoy the stolen life you have right now. Tomorrow or the day after, my mother will throw you out.”

As soon as Jiang Jinyi finished, a luxury car pulled up beside Jiang Youwan’s vehicle, not inferior in the slightest. The rear window rolled down to reveal a woman with exceptionally gorgeous features. She turned her head toward Jiang Jinyi outside, her phoenix eyes curving into a smile as she called out, “Xiao Jin.”

“Fu-jiejie!” The cold mask on Jiang Jinyi’s face instantly vanished, replaced by a brilliant smile as she saw Fu Mingyue. Gripping the straps of her backpack, she jogged toward Fu Mingyue, brushing right past Jiang Youwan.

Her fingertips tightening, Jiang Youwan slowly turned around. She watched Jiang Jinyi tugging at the car door, eager to climb inside like a kitten reuniting with its master. Fu Mingyue opened the door with a gentle smile and stepped out.

Fu Mingyue wore a qipao, her long jet-black hair falling around soft, delicate features. Naturally regal and breathtakingly beautiful, she was the epitome of classic elegance.

Jiang Jinyi’s eyes sparkled as she looked at her. “Fu-jiejie! You look so pretty in a qipao!”

“Xiao Jin’s mouth is so sweet~” Fu Mingyue patted Jiang Jinyi’s head, playfully ruffling her bangs. “Why did Xiao Jin suddenly think to ask Fu-jiejie to pick you up today?”

“Because I missed you~” Even with her bangs messed up, Jiang Jinyi didn’t pout in the slightest. She offered a cute, silly grin—utterly darling.

Fu Mingyue sensed someone watching her and lifted her eyes to meet the pair staring at her. She paused for a moment, recognizing the girl as the Eldest Miss the Jiang family had recently brought back.

This Eldest Miss possessed an intense hostility toward her… No, that wasn’t quite right. First came possessiveness, followed by hostility.

Had she done something? She had merely…

Something clicked, and a subtle light flashed across Fu Mingyue’s eyes. Hooking her lips into a smirk, she gently touched Jiang Jinyi’s cheek and lowered her head to whisper:

“In that case, how about I talk to Auntie Jiang and kidnap Xiao Jin to my place?”

She added an irresistible incentive: “Sister’s house has lots and lots of cats.”

Jiang Jinyi froze. An unavoidable pang of sorrow struck her, making the corners of her eyes prickle, but she nodded all the same.

    “Mm…”

    “Get in.”

Fu Mingyue stepped aside to let Jiang Jinyi climb into her car. Glancing once more at Jiang Youwan, who stood several meters away watching them, Fu Mingyue gave a subtle smile before bending down and sliding in after her.

Jiang Youwan could only watch helplessly as Jiang Jinyi boarded someone else’s car and drove away with another woman.

It was Friday. That night, Jiang Youwan waited in the living room until midnight, but Jiang Jinyi never returned.

Around one or two in the morning, noise echoed from the courtyard. Jiang Youwan lifted her eyes to look. Jiang Ningshu opened the door and stepped inside. Finding the living room lights still on, the two women’s eyes met.

An indescribable tension filled the air.

“Waiting for Xiao Jin?” Perhaps Jiang Ningshu was in a good mood today, as she initiated conversation with Jiang Youwan—a rare occurrence. “Xiao Jin won’t be back tonight. Nor tomorrow night, nor the night after. She’s staying at the Fu residence all weekend.”

Jiang Youwan’s face remained completely expressionless.

“Understood,” she replied, as if responding to a corporate superior.

Jiang Ningshu paid her no further attention and went upstairs alone to the second floor.

Returning to her room, she sat down to rest for a moment, then pulled a photograph from the deep recesses of a drawer. She stared at the two children in the photo: a young girl holding an infant in her arms. Standing beside them were two women—a deeply heartwarming photograph.

Jiang Ningshu’s gaze lingered for a long time on the woman in the photo who looked remarkably like her younger self. She murmured softly, “So I used to be so happy…”

It wasn’t until Monday evening that Jiang Jinyi finally returned home.

After finishing her homework, she went downstairs and curled up on the sofa to watch a movie. Usually, she held Xiao Yu while watching movies, stroking its fur as the film played. Now, reaching out out of habit, her arms found only emptiness. Unaccustomed to the feeling, she grabbed a kitten plush pillow, hugging it close so she could stroke it every now and then.

Just as sorrow and heartache washed over her, noise sounded outside. Jiang Youwan was back.

Jiang Youwan was unlike her usual self. Her face was flushed, her eyes somewhat unfocused, her expression exhausted and disheveled.

Dragging an exhausted body forced to consume vast amounts of liquor, she unlocked the villa door. The moment she caught sight of Xiao Jin sitting on the sofa, her dull eyes flared with sudden surprise and joy.

Following her into the room came the scent of datura floral pheromones mingled with heavy alcohol—a uniquely intoxicating aroma. In this state, her beauty possessed a captivating, sultry charm.

Perhaps she had drunk too much, or perhaps she was simply overwhelmed with joy, calling out drunkenly, “Xiao Jin…”

Jiang Jinyi felt no joy whatsoever. The first words out of her mouth were harsh and sharp: “Why haven’t you gotten the fuck out yet?”

The tiny spark of joy that had ignited in Jiang Youwan’s heart was instantly crushed out of existence.

Her smile faded. Her flushed face reverted to an expressionless blank, though she could not hide the desolate sorrow underneath.

Unable and unwilling to answer Xiao Jin’s question, she quietly retreated to her room, closed the door, and did not come out again.

She knew she was an eyesore. She didn’t want to ruin Xiao Jin’s mood to watch her movie. Xiao Jin had finally come home after days away—what if she left again in anger?

Yet Jiang Jinyi didn’t stop throwing her fit just because Youwan obediently vanished into her room. Enraged, she immediately phoned Jiang Ningshu, demanding to know why Jiang Youwan was still here.

The answer Jiang Ningshu gave her was: “Xiao Jin, Mom went to verify the test results yesterday. She really is your biological sister, and she really is my biological daughter. Therefore, Mom cannot drive her away.”

Jiang Jinyi froze. Having held onto her truth without a shadow of doubt for days, having it denied now was unacceptable, unbelievable. “How is that possible? She was the one who gave me blood that day! If she were biological, how could I have been completely fine?..”

“The DNA report confirms it beyond doubt. Xiao Jin, stop throwing this senseless tantrum, alright?” Jiang Ningshu spoke over the line, sounding weary and head-ached.

    A senseless tantrum?

Mom was saying she was throwing a senseless tantrum?

Jiang Jinyi stood frozen. In all her years growing up, this was the very first time her mother had ever used those words with her: senseless tantrum.

For the sake of an imposter, her mother actually accused her of throwing a senseless tantrum!

In the past, no matter how outrageous or willful Jiang Jinyi acted—even when she truly was throwing unreasonable tantrums—her mother had always pampered and doted on her. Jiang Jinyi was spoiled rotten; hearing those words cut her to the core, plunging her into an unprecedented crisis of insecurity.

The sense of security she felt with her mother instantly plummeted, leaving her fraught with anxiety.

Wild thoughts surged in her mind: Mom scolded me for Jiang Youwan’s sake… Does that mean I’m no longer more important to Mom than Jiang Youwan is?

She couldn’t calm her turbulent heart, fiercely convincing herself that the DNA report must have been tampered with.

Jiang Youwan leaned one hand against the wall. The liquor she had been forced to drink earlier was brutally strong; sharp, churning cramps tore through her lower abdomen and stomach, yet no matter how much her system heaved, she couldn’t throw up. Shedding her suit jacket and feeling utterly filthy, she forced herself to take a shower.

The alcohol had been far too strong, and ice-cold to boot. Consuming so much of it, hardly any omega could possibly bear the strain.

Cold sweat broke out across her skin from the pain, nearly causing her to collapse in the bathroom. After washing up, she collapsed onto the bed. Her head spun with dizziness, exhaustion and sleepiness washing over her, but her stomach felt as if a meat grinder were running inside, aching so violently that sleep was impossible.

Wracked with agony, she couldn’t move a muscle, lacking even the strength to get up and search for medicine.

Even as her consciousness wavered, she registered the door opening. Weakly opening her eyes, she saw a figure walking toward her bed, accompanied by the scent of hyacinth pheromones.

    It was Xiao Jin.

Jiang Youwan strained to focus her blurry vision.

Xiao Jin really was walking toward her. She stood right before her bed, leaning down.

Staring at the face growing larger in her blurred sight, Jiang Youwan thought she was dreaming. Otherwise, how could Xiao Jin ever seek her out on her own initiative?

A secret hope surged in her heart. She had drunk so much, her head was spinning, and she was in terrible pain—had Xiao Jin come to care for her?

Jiang Youwan looked at her, unable to distinguish the expression on her face, unaware that Xiao Jin was glaring down at her with cold disgust. Weakly, yet filled with joyful expectation, she parted her lips and called out, “Xiao Jin…”

The response she received was Jiang Jinyi’s icy voice: “You have no right to call me that.”

A sharp, brief pain prickled her scalp. She watched as Jiang Jinyi stepped back immediately, two strands of hair plucked firmly between her fingers, turning around to leave.

    Slam!

The door was slammed shut with force.

The smile Jiang Youwan had forced onto her face froze. Biting her lip, she let out a self-deprecating laugh.

    It hurt so much.
