    A Match Made in Heaven

    Pushing One’s Luck

The window was shut, the door was shut, and in this sealed space, it was as if the entire world had shrunk to just the two of them.

An intoxicating fragrance lingered in the air. The atmosphere was intimate and forbidden.

Yet there was also an indescribable sense of sacredness.

A kind of ceremony in which one person surrendered herself entirely to another.

Jiang Jinyi didn’t know how to express what was in her heart at this moment, so she chose the clearest method—the one Jiang Youwan liked most.

Jiang Youwan was silent for a moment. Without changing her expression, she slowly closed the book in her hand and set it aside.

Her eyes never left Jiang Jinyi. She had to admit—Xiao Jin looked truly adorable like this.

She couldn’t refuse her at all.

    Nor did she want to.

Jiang Youwan leaned forward instinctively, reaching out both hands to cup Jiang Jinyi’s face.

Her fingertips traced gently across the delicate softness of her cheek, then to her earlobe, the curve of her ear, the crown of her head.

The gesture was impossibly tender. Jinyi’s body temperature rose under her gaze, beyond her control—or any desire to control it—her cheeks flushing warm.

She bit down on the rope and couldn’t make a sound, but her eyes were pleading with Jiang Youwan.

Jiang Youwan gave her one more gentle stroke, then gripped the end of the leash firmly. The cord wound twice around her palm, securing Jiang Jinyi in her hand.

“Does Xiao Jin want to come up?” Jiang Youwan’s voice was magnetic and low, asking her softly.

    “I want to…”

Jiang Youwan smiled, tugged the leash, and lifted the covers with her other hand. “Come up.”

Jinyi climbed up carefully, kneeling on Jiang Youwan’s bed, facing her, holding her gaze.

Jiang Youwan’s bed was large and soft. Jinyi remembered the day she and Youwan had completed the complete marking—the custom bed Youwan had ordered for her.

Back then, she had been mortified and resistant, her heart and eyes full of nothing but hatred and pain. But now, she missed it so dearly.

That was Jiang Youwan’s love. Perhaps it wasn’t a very normal kind of love, but it was Jiang Youwan’s love, unique and irreplaceable.

Jiang Jinyi had sunk deep into it, unable to pull herself free.

She was so grateful that Jiang Youwan was right here in front of her. So grateful that the person she loved, the person who loved her, was Jiang Youwan.

There was only one Jiang Youwan in this world.

“What does Xiao Jin want to do?” Jiang Youwan’s voice was soft, yet commanding.

“I want to be with jiejie. Every second apart from jiejie is torment. I can’t leave jiejie…” Jinyi spoke from the depths of her heart.

“Is it only because Xiao Jin got drunk that she can’t leave jiejie?” Jiang Youwan asked again.

“No…” Jinyi shook her head immediately in denial.

“Then who was it that abandoned me for three months?” Jiang Youwan asked so gently it carried no trace of blame.

Jinyi let out a “wu” sound and shook her head. “That was the bastard Jiang Jinyi, not me. The bastard Jiang Jinyi has already been eaten by me. She’ll never abandon jiejie again…”

Her mouth spouted nonsense, but her eyes were apologizing.

Jiang Youwan’s gaze was unreadable. “Is jiejie that easy to talk to in your eyes? As foolish as Xiao Yu—you think you can leave whenever you want and come back with a few sweet words?”

“No, not just a few sweet words. I’m putting my whole heart into it.”

“I’m giving myself to jiejie. Jiejie can do whatever she wants to me. No matter how jiejie treats me, I’ll always stay by her side—the kind that can’t be driven away.” Jinyi was a little possessive, even pushing her luck, wanting to wrap her arms around Jiang Youwan.

She couldn’t wait to bare her heart. “I want to be loved by jiejie, I want to matter to jiejie, I want to belong only to jiejie forever, I want to give everything I have to jiejie, I never want to leave jiejie again, I want to be with jiejie forever.”

Jinyi murmured softly, her eyes filled with infatuation for Jiang Youwan, helplessly, irretrievably lost.

Hearing such words from Xiao Jin’s lips, Jiang Youwan felt that everything in this world was no more than this.

She wanted to hear it again and again, countless times more.

She smiled, and even in the dimness Jinyi could feel the bewitching allure of an enchantress. She said, “Xiao Jin is drunk. Will you really remember these words by tomorrow morning?”

“Will you have forgotten them by morning?”

“No.” Jinyi told her, “I’m not drunk. I didn’t drink a single drop.”

“You faked being drunk?” Jiang Youwan raised an eyebrow, though she didn’t seem particularly surprised.

“I faked it because I wanted to come home with jiejie…”

“I didn’t want to lie to jiejie, but I missed jiejie so, so much. I wanted to come home with jiejie, I wanted to be able to tell jiejie like this—I love you, I love you so much.”

Jiang Youwan raised her hand, gently stroking Jinyi’s cheek, her thumb pressing against her lips, caressing softly.

    “Come here.”

    “Come closer.”

Jinyi braced her hands against the bed and leaned forward. Their breaths grew clearer, closer. Jiang Youwan looked into her eyes, mere inches away, and said in a low, husky voice, “I truly wish life could stop at this moment, let time remember your resolve and conviction right now.”

“Preserve this heart of yours that loves me most, never to spoil or fade.”

Such a pathological love—gentle in its madness.

The depth of her infatuation in this moment made Jinyi think that even if Youwan toyed her to death, she would go willingly.

But she still wanted to tell Youwan, “Jiejie, I think… the me of the future will love you even more than ‘loving you most’…”

    What beautiful words.

Jiang Youwan narrowed her eyes, pinched her chin, and found it was the perfect angle for a kiss. So, not very gently, she pressed the back of Jinyi’s head and brought her lips to her own.

As their lips touched, Jinyi was overwhelmed—her mind flooded with an immense wave of happiness, every sense concentrated on her mouth. She carefully savored Youwan’s movements, obediently parting her lips, inviting her in.

In that instant, it was as if two hearts had been pieced back together.

Perhaps because of the misfortunes of her youth, Jiang Youwan knew that everything she cared about had to be controlled in her own hands. She relished the feeling of control.

And Jiang Jinyi had been spoiled since childhood, raised in the light, rarely exposed to genuine malice. So she didn’t like to overthink things. She surrendered thought, choosing to be a fool who remembered only that she loved jiejie and wanted to be loved by jiejie.

They truly were a match made in heaven.

Jiang Youwan led the kiss. Not very gently, she gripped Jinyi’s chin, the leash winding many times around her palm, keeping Jinyi firmly in her control.

She poured out three months of longing and grievance. She kissed deeply, and the possessiveness she had buried away found an outlet, surging forth endlessly, seizing Jinyi, holding her tight.

In such a deep kiss, Jinyi nearly suffocated several times, her instincts triggering flashes of fear. But each moment of suffocation proved how intimately close she was to Youwan now—indistinguishable, inseparable.

She found herself falling in love with that feeling of suffocation.

“Xiao Jin, you know jiejie isn’t exactly a normal person…” In the breath between kisses, Jiang Youwan cradled her head and murmured. Without waiting for an answer, she kissed her again.

Swallowing every one of her promises whole.

The air itself was damp. When it came to kissing, an omega still couldn’t hold the upper hand. Jiang Youwan was somewhat overwhelmed and reached out to push Jinyi away. Their lips parted, drawing a glistening silver thread between them, impossibly intimate.

Jiang Youwan’s lips were parted, her entire face and body like a blossom on the verge of full bloom.

Jinyi looked at her in this bewitching state, her eyes filled with nothing but adoration. Intoxicated by happiness, insatiable, she leaned in for another kiss. “Jiejie, I still want to kiss…”

Youwan was still breathing heavily. She pressed a finger to Jinyi’s moist lips and scolded softly, “No.”

    No more kissing?

Jinyi’s expression immediately turned wounded. She didn’t dare lean forward, but she wasn’t willing to end it just like that. She let out a small whimper and took Youwan’s hand, tracing gentle circles in her palm with her finger.

She knew that back when they were together, this little gesture had always made Youwan’s heart stir.

Youwan had never been able to refuse her requests for kisses.

    But things were different now.

“Don’t move.” It was a command, though her tone wavered. She raised a hand to wipe her swollen, damp lips. Her silk nightgown was already loose to begin with, and after that intense kiss it hung even more precariously. As she lifted her hand to wipe her lips, glimpses of skin flickered in and out of view.

In such an alluring pose, her mouth spoke the most merciless words: “I have a prenatal checkup tomorrow. If you don’t want me to kick you off the bed, lie down and go to sleep.”

At the mention of the prenatal checkup, Jinyi snapped to her senses, suddenly ashamed of the impure thoughts that had been running through her mind. She lay down obediently beside Jiang Youwan.

But Youwan didn’t lie down. Instead, she got out of bed from the other side and went into the bathroom. A moment later, Jinyi heard the patter of water from inside.

    A shower…

Why was she taking a shower…

She blinked, burying her burning face into Youwan’s pillow.

Some ten-odd minutes later, Youwan emerged from the bathroom, having changed into a more modest nightgown. From afar, she could see that Jinyi had fallen asleep on Youwan’s side of the bed.

She was lying on her stomach, face buried in the pillow, the covers pulled up high—barely able to breathe, but looking very secure.

Only when she heard Youwan’s approaching footsteps did Jinyi turn over. The lower half of her face was tucked into the blanket, a pair of glistening peach blossom eyes watching the freshly bathed Jiang Youwan.

Adoring, yet cautious—as if afraid of being chased away.

“Pushing your luck again?” Youwan asked with feigned severity.

“No.” Jinyi lifted the covers for Youwan, urging her to come in quickly, and said in a soft, sticky-sweet voice, “I was just warming the bed for jiejie.”

Youwan raised an eyebrow and lay down. Her body was instantly enveloped in warmth—the entire bed was infused with Jinyi’s scent. It was so comfortable.

    It felt a little unreal.

Jinyi caught the upward curve of her lips. She hadn’t been praised, yet it was better than being praised. Her heart was satisfied.

She wanted to push her luck a little more…

But before the thought could finish, she saw that Youwan was holding the plushie she had given her.

Jinyi froze for a moment. A little jealous, yet her heart felt warm and achingly tender.

    “Jiejie…” she called softly.

“Hm?” Youwan buried her face into the plushie, looking impossibly intimate—as if doing it on purpose for Jinyi to see, or perhaps not.

“You’d rather hold that than hold me…” Jinyi mumbled under her breath.

“But I’ve been holding it to sleep for so many days now. It’s very comfortable. I don’t think it’s worse than you.”

Jinyi’s eyes went wide, unable to believe Jiang Youwan could think such a thing.

It was too dark to notice the sly smile in Youwan’s fox-like eyes.

All she knew was a deep sense of injustice. After a long pause, she squeezed out: “…Good night.”

“Good night.” Youwan held the plushie and rolled over.

Letting her into bed to sleep—as if it really was only letting her into bed to sleep.

    Each to her own side.

People were always greedy. Before, in the next room, Jinyi had thought: if only I could see jiejie once. Now she thought: if only I could hold jiejie and sleep together.

After a silence, she also rolled over—not to sleep in a huff, but to secretly search on her phone: 【What to pay attention to when accompanying an omega to a prenatal checkup.】

There were many tips online: always monitor the omega’s mood, stay by her side at all times, bring water and snacks because prenatal checkups required fasting and she’d be hungry afterward, and so on and so forth…

Jinyi memorized every single one. Looking at the first two items, her heart ached.

If she hadn’t come today, she wouldn’t have even known about the prenatal checkup.

She wouldn’t have been able to stay by her side, to watch over her emotions.

Just like all the previous checkups Youwan had already gone to, again and again.

Jinyi rubbed her eyes and realized she owed her far, far too much.

Suddenly, she felt warmth behind her, carrying the rich fragrance of Youwan’s scent. Then an arm wrapped around her waist, and Youwan’s soft body pressed against her back.

“Jiejie?” Jinyi went rigid, testing with a soft call.

    No response.

She called again. Still no response.

    Was she asleep?

Jinyi felt her heart take a soft blow. She rolled over carefully to face Jiang Youwan. Her sleeping face was inches away.

Asleep, she was gentler than water. Those bewitching eyes were closed, yet they made one’s heart itch more than when she was awake.

Her gaze drifted down to her slightly swollen lips—swollen from Jinyi’s kisses.

The thought sent a surge of alpha satisfaction through her, her possessive instinct fulfilled.

    And then she wanted more.

She wanted to steal a kiss.

As dark clouds covered the moon and the moonlight vanished with them, the room went pitch black.

She lowered her head, first touching the tip of her nose, then gently taking her lips. She had only meant to hold them for a moment, but she pushed her luck again, darting out her tongue, carefully parting Youwan’s lips, slipping into her warm, wet mouth.

Always wanting to leave her scent behind.

One stolen kiss ended. Jinyi withdrew guiltily, only to see a glistening trace at the corner of Youwan’s lips, her mouth now even more flushed and lustrous.

    —The result of their kisses.

The mere possibility made the longing in Jinyi’s heart surge like it had been given a catalyst. Her brain spiraled beyond control, wanting more. Heaven knew how much she missed Jiang Youwan.

So, under the pretext of helping her clean up, she left even more behind.

She lost count of how many stolen kisses she’d taken before pulling away. Jinyi was giddy, her heart racing.

Suddenly, the person who had been fast asleep murmured, “Jiang Jinyi…”

Hearing her full name, Jinyi froze completely, her mind going blank, not daring to move, one breath away from confessing everything.

But Youwan didn’t open her eyes. Instead, she seized the leash, pulled Jinyi forcefully toward her, and wrapped her arms tightly around her waist. She tucked herself into Jinyi’s embrace, buried her face in the crook of her neck—so vulnerable, so clinging.

And murmured her scolding: “Pushing your luck, you bastard…”

The author has something to say:

Note: the passage in this chapter, “I truly wish life could stop at this moment, let time remember your resolve and conviction right now,” is modified from the song 《Absolute Possession, Relative Freedom》’s lyrics: “I wish to die right now, let time remember my resolve and conviction right now, so you’ll always feel at ease.”

I wouldn’t have known today is Qixi Festival1 if you all hadn’t mentioned it. Since it’s Qixi, then, baby—happy Qixi!
