    The Little Drunkard

Ji Xiaoqin also felt Jiang Youwan’s gaze. As their eyes met, her fingers tightened slightly, and she bit her inner lip.

The air seemed to freeze in this moment, turning heavy and stagnant.

Jiang Youwan just stood there, doing nothing at all, yet an overwhelming rush of embarrassment, awkwardness, and self-abasement welled up continuously in Ji Xiaoqin’s heart, making her want to flee.

She was dignified and elegant, beautiful beyond compare. She commanded wealth that Ji Xiaoqin couldn’t hope to match in ten lifetimes; she was a truly powerful woman.

With Jiang Youwan here, Jiang Jinyi didn’t need her at all. In comparison, Ji Xiaoqin knew she was nothing but a joke.

She averted her eyes from Jiang Youwan in embarrassment.

Supporting Jiang Jinyi, she stood frozen on the spot, not knowing whether to advance or retreat.

Jiang Youwan’s fox eyes fixed on her, curving once more into a charming arc. Walking in her high heels, she approached Jiang Jinyi step by step.

Ji Xiaoqin thought she would pull Jiang Jinyi away from her side immediately, but to her surprise, Jiang Youwan stopped two paces away.

A faint smile hung on Jiang Youwan’s soft, seductive face, looking polite, humble, and elegant. Staring at Jiang Jinyi’s flushed, drunken face, she coaxed softly, “Xiao Jin, come to jiejie.”

Hearing the familiar voice, Jiang Jinyi blinked. Her vision was blurry, and the Jiang Youwan before her split into several overlapping figures, swaying back and forth.

    “Ugh…”

Jiang Jinyi shook her head and finally made out Jiang Youwan’s expression. She was smiling so beautifully, smiling just like a fox spirit.

To think this fox spirit was actually her jiejie.

“Jiang… Jiang Youwan, where did you go just now?” Jiang Jinyi sniffled aggrievedly. She broke away from Ji Xiaoqin and threw herself straight into Jiang Youwan’s embrace.

Ji Xiaoqin blinked rapidly, hastily trying to conceal the embarrassment and dejection in her eyes.

Receiving a full embrace, a rich aroma of alcohol mingled with hyacinth pheromones washed over her. Jiang Youwan felt her heart fill in an instant. She wrapped one arm around Jiang Jinyi’s waist and cupped the girl’s face with her other hand. Looking into her drunken eyes, she chided gently, “You promised me you’d only drink a little. Why’d you drink so much?”

“Because I kept losing games, and because… they all bullied me.” Clinging to her as if she had no bones, Jiang Jinyi rested her head on her shoulder and mumbled her complaints.

She made it sound so real, exactly like a kindergarten child who’d met their parent after school and was pitifully complaining about being bullied in class.

Except this child was a little drunkard.

They say that drunk people become exceptionally dependent on those they already rely on, and right now, Jiang Youwan was incredibly fond of this saying.

She lowered her head until their noses almost touched. Coaxing her like a child, Jiang Youwan whispered, “Then we won’t play with them anymore. Let’s go home, alright?”

Jiang Jinyi pouted, looking a bit reluctant. When Jiang Youwan asked what she was thinking, she whined in her sweet, babyish voice, “You haven’t helped me teach them a lesson yet… especially that Xu An. She… she laughed at me…!”

    Xu An: “…”

Damn, how hadn’t she known before that Jiang Jinyi was this kind of person?

Fortunately, Jiang Youwan only lifted her eyes to look at Ji Xiaoqin and asked, “Do you have the keys to the apartment where Xiao Jin lives?”

Ji Xiaoqin froze for a moment, then nodded.

“Give them to me.” Jiang Youwan didn’t offer a reason.

Ji Xiaoqin squeezed her hands. Helplessly, she found the keys in her bag and pulled them out. Jiang Youwan reached out to take them, gave a brief nod of farewell to the others in the private room, and left with Jiang Jinyi.

Ji Xiaoqin stood there with her head lowered, overwhelmed by an indescribable sense of dejection.

Xu An sighed inwardly and called out to her, but she didn’t respond. When Xu An went over, trying to pull her back, Ji Xiaoqin whispered a low apology, broke away from her hand, and fled in a panic.

Xu An caught the restrained sob in her voice. Startled, she quickly chased after her.

Supporting and coaxing her all the way, Jiang Youwan managed to get her downstairs. Once they reached the car, Jiang Jinyi wrapped her arms around her waist and refused to let go, whining and throwing a drunken tantrum. The driver wanted to step out and help, but Jiang Youwan declined. She patiently, even enjoyably, coaxed her by the roadside for two or three minutes, only managing to get her into the car just as the others from the private room were coming out.

Wen Ye’s car was parked nearby, and she’d witnessed practically the entire scene. Driven by sheer curiosity, she walked over to Jiang Youwan and asked with a smile, “President Jiang, if you don’t mind me asking, how did you two make up?”

“Hmm?” Jiang Youwan tilted her head to look at her. “Is Miss Wen very surprised that we reconciled?”

Wen Ye didn’t hide it either. “It’s shocking enough to surprise anyone, isn’t it? Who initiated it? Was it Xiao Jin? She acts spoiled around you so naturally now. It’s amazing you two don’t have any rift between you at all.”

Jiang Youwan smiled brightly and said softly, “It was indeed Xiao Jin who brought it up. She acted spoiled and told me, ‘Jiejie, I’m sorry,’ saying she was wrong and promising she wouldn’t throw tantrums anymore. She said we should live well together from now on.”

Wen Ye could easily picture that scene and couldn’t help but laugh. “Is that so? That really is hard to refuse.”

Jiang Youwan replied helplessly, “I simply couldn’t refuse her at all.”

Wen Ye said, meaning more than her words let on, “In that case, I wish you get your heart’s desire, President Jiang.”

Back in the car, Jiang Jinyi was already half-asleep. The look in Jiang Youwan’s eyes grew deep as she retrieved two pills from her bag, pinched the girl’s cheeks to feed them to her, and only then let her sleep.

The driver in the front seat asked where they were heading. She recited an address—not a hotel, but Jiang Jinyi’s old apartment.

Half an hour later, the car pulled up downstairs at an ordinary residential complex.

It was an extremely ordinary neighborhood, completely incomparable to the Jiang Family Villa.

During her years at university in Bei City, Jiang Jinyi had never accepted a single cent from home. She was incredibly stubborn, relying entirely on selling her own paintings to get by, so she naturally couldn’t afford to live in any high-end communities.

Thinking about it still made her heart ache with a sour pang. Xiao Jin was a pampered young lady who’d grown up in luxury—how had she managed to bear this?

She didn’t want her to be forced to grow up at all.

Jiang Jinyi was supported into the elevator in a daze. Her surroundings were unfamiliar, full of things she didn’t recognize, but she knew the person holding her was her jiejie.

The familiar scent enveloped her, putting her completely at ease.

Then came the sound of a key turning in the lock, and soon, she was released from that familiar embrace, lying down on a bed.

Opening her eyes with great difficulty, she saw Jiang Youwan sitting elegantly by the bedside with her legs crossed, surveying the surroundings. Noticing her eyes open, Jiang Youwan turned her head to meet her gaze.

    “Where is this?”

“This is Xiao Jin’s home in Bei City.” For some reason, Jiang Youwan’s gaze and mood turned slightly heavier. Jiang Jinyi felt something was off, but her alcohol-addled brain couldn’t analyze Jiang Youwan’s emotions with any precision. She only knew, with stubborn selfishness, that she wanted Jiang Youwan to hold her right now.

    “Y-you… hold me…”

“Hold you?” Jiang Youwan replied, “Why should I hold you?”

Jiang Youwan’s voice was slightly cold, a stark contrast to her previous gentleness. The alcohol magnified Jiang Jinyi’s sense of grievance, and her already misty eyes were instantly covered by a thick layer of moisture. “Does wanting you to hold me… even need a reason?!”

She propped herself up on her knees, her silky long hair cascading down, partially veiling the enticing view beneath her collar. Her drunken peach blossom eyes1 were already incredibly expressive, let alone when she looked up with such a pitiful gaze.

With natural entitlement, she demanded Jiang Youwan’s embrace, her tone laced with a spoiled pout.

She felt she didn’t need a reason for Jiang Youwan to hold her; holding her was simply a given.

She took it entirely for granted.

Jiang Youwan’s narrow eyes darkened. Her voice sank slightly as she asked a question she already knew the answer to, “Do you want me to hold you?”

    “Then crawl over here.”

As she spoke, Jiang Youwan deliberately released some seductive pheromones. The scent of datura leaked from the nape of her neck, slowly filling and invading Jiang Jinyi’s senses.

    Crawl over?

Jiang Jinyi thought with her drunken brain: I’m the Eldest Miss of the Jiang family, after all. No one’s ever dared to make me crawl since I was a child. Why should I crawl?

Jiang Youwan should be coming over to hold her, not making her crawl.

    But…

Whether affected by the pheromones or not, Jiang Jinyi’s thoughts could no longer keep pace with her physical actions. Like the most obedient little puppy, she had already crawled to Jiang Youwan’s side, wanting to plunge straight into her arms.

Yet Jiang Youwan seemed genuinely angry and didn’t let her have her way. Her slender, delicate hand gripped Jiang Jinyi’s fragile neck, forcing the girl to meet her gaze.

Jiang Youwan looked down upon Jiang Jinyi’s flushed, drunken face. Under the warm yellow light of the room, the atmosphere, which should have been quiet and cozy, felt subtly different now.

“Jiejie doesn’t want to hold you. Do you know what you did wrong?”

Jiang Youwan was like a high-and-mighty queen, her gentleness completely stripped away, leaving only an interrogative tone. Yet it didn’t repel Jiang Jinyi; instead, it made her…

A little weak in the knees.

    What did she do wrong?

Jiang Jinyi racked her drunken brain for a long time, but she couldn’t think of a single thing she’d done wrong.

She blinked, so aggrieved she was almost sobbing. “They all bullied me, and now you want to bully me too? Wu…”

    Bully her?

Jiang Youwan thought, if Jiang Jinyi remembered what she had done to her in the past, would she still have the nerve to say that?

She loved to bully her—but undeniably, in some sense, hadn’t Jiang Youwan also been enjoying being bullied by her?

Yet right now, she was extremely jealous. She was burning with envy. Jiang Jinyi had forbidden her from using the nickname ‘Xiao Jin’ for the past four years, yet that Wen Ye had only known her for a single day and was already permitted to call her that.

Staring into Jiang Jinyi’s hazy eyes, she asked, “Do you like that Wen Ye very much? You’ve only known her for a day, yet you’re already so close? Calling her Wen-jiejie?”

Jiang Jinyi was in agony. It wasn’t just the alcohol tormenting her; Jiang Youwan’s pheromones were also quietly tormenting her. Completely unaware of this, she only felt miserable and desperately wanted to get closer to Jiang Youwan, but Jiang Youwan’s hand on her neck kept her at bay.

Jiang Youwan had changed! Jiang Youwan had changed!

Jiang Jinyi was about to cry from frustration. Tears pooled in her eyes, threatening to spill over at any second. Sniffling, she yelled at her, “Dummy! You dummy!”

Jiang Youwan pinched the soft flesh of her cheek. “Calling me names?”

Jiang Jinyi mumbled, “I will! I’m going to call her Wen-jiejie! You’re so mean. I like you so much, yet you won’t even let me hold you. If… if Wen-jiejie knew I wanted a hug, she would definitely hold me. Why should I still like you?”

Jiang Youwan was taken aback, then laughed out of sheer exasperation. “So you don’t like me anymore? You only like your Wen-jiejie, is that it?”

Jiang Jinyi: “…” Although she desperately wanted to admit it just to anger this wicked woman to death, she…

She wanted her embrace so desperately right now.

Her voice and momentum softened. Raising her wet eyelashes, she glared with a touch of petulance in her starlike eyes. “If… if you let me hold you right now, I’ll still like you best.”

    Like you best.

    Jiang Youwan’s eyes darkened further.

Even though she knew the “like” from Jiang Jinyi’s lips wasn’t the same kind of love she harbored for her, Jiang Youwan still couldn’t help but feel her heart race, nearly drowning in her words and her hazy gaze.

In truth, this little brat hadn’t only done things that hurt her tonight; she’d also behaved so well.

“Are you feeling unwell right now?” Jiang Youwan asked, her other hand gently stroking Jiang Jinyi’s overly flushed cheek.

Jiang Youwan’s hand was exceptionally soft, and in contrast to her own feverish skin, it was cool and comforting. Jiang Jinyi couldn’t help but nuzzle her cheek against Jiang Youwan’s palm. “I feel bad…”

“My head is spinning, and I really want to sleep. I want to sleep while holding jiejie. But… but you won’t let me hold you, so my heart feels bad too… it feels so, so bad!”

This “want to sleep while holding jiejie” struck a chord deep in Jiang Youwan’s heart.

    It was practically cheating.

Refusing to let herself soften so easily, Jiang Youwan continued in a slightly cool tone, “If you had listened to jiejie and refrained from drinking, you wouldn’t feel so miserable. This is the consequence of not listening to jiejie. Will you remember to listen to jiejie in the future?”

Whatever Jiang Youwan said, Jiang Jinyi obediently repeated. Feeling a bit anxious, she nodded eagerly. “I’ll listen… I’ll listen.”

She said airily, “I’ll listen to jiejie the most…”

“So obedient? Will you still remember this tomorrow?”

Drunk as she was, it’d be a miracle if she remembered.

Jiang Youwan fell into thought, then retrieved her phone from her bag and started recording. She knew this was a low thing to do, but… it was only giving her a taste of her own medicine.

She continued to question her, her voice softening significantly, “In the future, you’re not allowed to get drunk outside. Even if you do get drunk, you must remember to find jiejie. You can’t get overly intimate with outsiders, and you’re not allowed to let others hold you, understand?”

Jiang Youwan wondered if her Xiao Jin had spent every single day with that little assistant over the past four years. There were three rooms in this apartment. She’d already checked: one was Jiang Jinyi’s bedroom, one was the art studio, and the other was a guest room, which clearly had a regular occupant.

There was no need to ask who that occupant was.

    She was incredibly jealous.

Jiang Jinyi blankly processed Jiang Youwan’s lengthy speech, nodding a beat too late. “Mm, mm!”

Jiang Youwan’s eyes curved with a smile as she gently stroked Jiang Jinyi’s head. Her gaze was incredibly deep and dark. Meeting her eyes, Jiang Jinyi suddenly tried to shrink back in fear. “Don’t eat me!”

    Jiang Youwan: “…?”

She couldn’t help but laugh softly. “I won’t eat you. Just be good and I won’t eat you.”

Jiang Jinyi calmed down slightly, only to feel aggrieved once more. “Then let me hold you!” She had been so obedient; why wasn’t she allowed to hold her?

“I feel like I’m about to pass out, wu…”

“Be good, bear with it just a little longer. Promise jiejie that no matter what happens in the future, you’ll never leave jiejie.”

    Jiang Jinyi’s eyelids were extremely heavy. “I… I promise…”

Jiang Youwan’s voice was as soft and seductive as a night-dwelling specter as she asked for her consent, “If you absolutely insist on leaving in the future, can jiejie lock you up?”

Jiang Jinyi frowned, too dazed to comprehend. “Why do you want to lock me up? Can’t… can’t we just talk about it…?”

“Because you won’t listen and insist on leaving…”

Jiang Youwan’s brows curved, her eyes glistening like autumn ripples. “Don’t worry, jiejie will give puppy the very best cage and accompany puppy every single day… Is Xiao Jin jiejie’s puppy?”

The life of a puppy sounded so blissful when described by Jiang Youwan. Bewitched, Jiang Jinyi replied, “I am jiejie’s puppy…”

Jiang Jinyi gave a silly giggle, then suddenly barked, “Woof!”

“So good…” Jiang Youwan let go of the hand that had been lightly squeezing her neck, cupping the girl’s head with both hands to continue her soft enticement. “Then kiss jiejie on the cheek. Just one kiss, and I’ll let you sleep.”

The night outside the window was quiet and beautiful, but Jiang Youwan didn’t spare it a glance. The drunken girl before her was more than enough to occupy her entire vision.

Jiang Jinyi slowly leaned forward, drawing closer under Jiang Youwan’s tender gaze. Resting both hands on Jiang Youwan’s shoulders, she aimed for her cheek and kissed her. Perhaps she was too drunk or her head was too heavy, but her aim went slightly askew, and her lips pressed against the corner of Jiang Youwan’s mouth.

Before Jiang Youwan could recover from her daze, Jiang Jinyi had already squeezed into her embrace, wrapping her arms around her waist and burying her face in her chest.
