Description:
Everyone in the world knew that Yun Heng, the noble and pure Immortal Venerable, possessed a cultivation level nearing the God Realm. She harbored a heart for all living things but held no personal affection, remaining as cold as the highest snow on Yunwu Mountain.
As the sole Shimei of Yunheng Xianzun, Wen Qiwu harbored a secret at the bottom of her heart since her youth—she loved her Shijie. But this affection was destined to remain in the shadows. She’d believed she could guard this secret for a lifetime, but unfortunately, she overestimated herself. A single jar of Immortal Brew, barely intoxicating at all, was enough to make her years of restraint collapse in an instant.
The moment she was confined to the Cliff of Reflection, Wen Qiwu felt a prickle of regret, but far more than that, she felt a sense of relief. Born with a congenital, incurable ailment, she was destined to have a short life; leaving no regrets before her death was a mercy in itself.
A few years later, the great war between immortals and demons erupted. Perhaps her Shijie believed that Wen Qiwu had already let go of that affection; before departing, she left a voice transmission, telling her to stay safe within the sect and wait for her return, promising she would make Wen Qiwu’s favorite chestnut cakes.
In the end, her Shijie hadn’t had the heart to keep her locked away forever. Unfortunately, she didn’t live to see those chestnut cakes, nor did she see her Shijie again. Instead, she was first met by the demon army flanking the sect in a sneak attack. To defend the sect, she perished alongside the enemy leader.
Perhaps by some divine mercy, though her soul should’ve been utterly shattered and scattered, she woke up once more inside a spirit beast egg in the borderlands.
Yet even though she was far from her old sect, and despite her deliberate efforts to avoid any news related to her past, the passing years still brought whispers of her Shijie’s recent affairs to her ears.
She heard a storyteller claim that Yunheng Xianzun had been gravely wounded in that cataclysmic war. Then she heard gossip surrounding the Xianzun—not that she was injured, but that she’d developed a heart demon because she could never attain the bright moon in her heart.
Hearing these ridiculous rumors, Wen Qiwu endured them as long as she could. In the end, unable to hold back, she transformed into a white bird to teach those loose-lipped gossips a lesson. By a stroke of misfortune, she was caught in a cage by the disciples of Yunwu Mountain and sent to the Xianzun as a pet to soothe her boredom.
Meeting her Shijie again after so many years, Wen Qiwu realized that the rumors of severe injuries were true, and her heart demon seemed real as well. Her once reticent Shijie now locked herself in her room every day, holding the birdcage and murmuring to herself, uttering fragmented, illogical words. Beside her, there always sat a plate of untouched chestnut cakes. Unable to escape, Wen Qiwu could only serve as her Shijie’s sole daily listener.
Later, Wen Qiwu discovered that every single word her Shijie spoke was a confession of love that had never been delivered.
