    It’s a Secret

    “I want… you to hold me~”

“You definitely hate me!” Having said this with absolute certainty, she stared straight at Jiang Youwan, as if waiting for her comfort, waiting for her denial…

    “…”

Seeing no immediate reaction from Jiang Youwan, another layer of watery mist welled up in her eyes.

Jiang Youwan froze, a wonderfully strange sensation welling up in her heart.

It was as if a little kitten, normally fierce and always scratching and hissing at you, was now asking you with sheer grievance why you didn’t like her.

Unreasonable, yet entirely relying on her own cuteness.

Hate her? A gentle smile curved the corners of Jiang Youwan’s lips as she said, “I don’t hate you.”

“You’re lying!” Sniffling with a thoroughly drunken, disbelieving look, Jiang Jinyi choked out, “You don’t like me at all. You just… you just hate me…”

Jiang Youwan pressed her lips together.

Jiang Jinyi lowered her gaze and stared at her own hands, her eyelashes fluttering. “None of you like me,” she whispered. “Aunt Cai hates me, and Qin Yue didn’t really like me either—she only liked my money. And I bully you like this.” She raised her damp eyes to look at Jiang Youwan. “You… you must hate me too…”

Even though she clearly knew she was the one who had bullied the other first, she spoke with such grievance, as if the entire world owed her.

    “…”

Jiang Youwan’s lips curved slightly into a faint, soft smile. She slowly raised her hand and stroked Jiang Jinyi’s head, her voice gentler than if she were coaxing a child. “I don’t hate you. Miss Jiang is so good to me—you even found a doctor to heal all my wounds. I can’t thank you enough.”

Jiang Jinyi’s alcohol-befuddled brain slowly processed Jiang Youwan’s words. Her eyes suddenly lit up, though she remained half-doubtful. “Re… really?”

Jiang Youwan felt the head beneath her palm stealthily nuzzling into her hand, stroke by stroke. Her smile deepened. “Of course it’s true. I don’t hate Miss Jiang at all. Miss Jiang…”

She paused for a moment before praising softly, “You’re very cute.”

This single praise of being “very cute” was uttered with such sincerity and tenderness that it acted like some sort of adorable catalyst. Jiang Jinyi blinked and, truly resembling a cat, nuzzled against her even more eagerly.

Her hair and cheeks felt wonderful to the touch. Her hair was silky and thick, while her face was tender, soft, and burning hot. Through the sensation at her fingertips, Jiang Youwan could practically picture how flushed the girl’s face must be.

“Then… then say it… say it.”

    “Hmm? Say what?”

Jiang Jinyi seemed a little shy. She leaned forward and crawled toward Jiang Youwan, bringing her face close to her ear. Jiang Youwan’s body stiffened as she heard a sweet, cloying whisper right beside her ear:

    “Then say you like me.”

Every breath, every word was scorching hot. Her hyacinth pheromones carried a rich, intoxicating aroma of alcohol. Merely being near her felt like being subjected to a powerful seduction.

To say nothing of how she was currently clinging entirely to Jiang Youwan, pressing against her ear and murmuring words that could set anyone’s heart racing and face flushing.

Yet she remained completely oblivious, her face full of innocent anticipation. This was the most lethal enticement of all.

Jiang Youwan disliked being touched by others—in fact, she detested it. Yet she had already been “taken liberties with” by this young mistress many times. Before, she couldn’t push her away; this time, she simply didn’t want to, even though the heat from Miss Jiang’s breath had turned her entire ear crimson.

She turned her head slightly toward Jiang Jinyi. “Do you want me to say it?” she coaxed gently. “Then tell me, what did your mother do to treat your illness?”

Jiang Jinyi pouted slightly, seemingly pondering Jiang Youwan’s question. As her consciousness grew more and more fragmented, her body wavered, and her lips brushed against Jiang Youwan’s ear, on and off.

“Mmh, she… she…” Jiang Jinyi suddenly let out a mysterious smile. “It’s a secret.”

The weather was already sweltering, and her unconscious acts of playing with fire only made it hotter. Jiang Youwan’s brow furrowed slightly as she endured the unfamiliar, agonizingly sweet tingling sensation. “Tell me the secret,” she coaxed. “I won’t tell anyone else.”

    Tell her…

    Don’t tell her…

Jiang Jinyi thought dizzily. Suddenly losing her balance, she tumbled directly into Jiang Youwan’s embrace, burying herself in her chest. Jiang Youwan instinctively reached out to wrap an arm around her waist to keep her from falling. She couldn’t help but feel the girl’s burning-hot body, causing her own breathing to quicken.

She had never been in such close, intimate contact with anyone before. The scents of datura and hyacinth tangled and merged in the air around them.

“You feel so… comfortable. You smell so good,” Jiang Jinyi praised in her drunken stupor.

Even through the fabric of her clothes, the skin of her chest felt completely scorched by her. Jiang Youwan knit her brows, looking down at her. “Do you want me to hold you?”

Jiang Jinyi suddenly lifted her head, looking at the face right in front of her with hazy, easily deceived eyes. “I want… you to hold me~”

The girl dragged out her final words, acting spoiled as she exhaled her alcohol-scented breath right into her face.

She really didn’t care about anything when she was drunk; the entire world had to cater to her because she knew how to act cute.

Jiang Youwan’s face heated up. Knowing how close they were, she pinched her own fingertips and said, “Tell me the secret, and I’ll hold you while we sleep.”

    “…”

After a long while, Jiang Jinyi let out an annoyed huff and buried herself back in her embrace. Her arms tightened around her waist as if to say: Even if I don’t tell you, I’m still going to hold you, and you have to let me.

Miss Jiang’s overbearing nature didn’t diminish in the slightest when she was drunk.

Jiang Youwan thought for a moment and tried a different way of coaxing her. “I’ll let you hold me. In exchange, you tell me the secret too, all right?”

She was even gentler now, indulging her completely. It felt as soothing as warm spring waters. Jiang Jinyi closed her eyes, resting her head comfortably against her shoulder. After some soft mumbling, her red lips parted slightly. “The secret… the secrets are all…”

Her voice grew fainter and fainter, her last words trailing off entirely. Jiang Youwan had to listen with utmost care to catch the three slurred words that followed.

    “In the Art Studio.”

    The Art Studio…

Jiang Youwan’s brows knit together. She remained in her head-lowered posture, deep in thought, when the doorbell suddenly rang out in the quiet house. Jiang Youwan lifted her head warily, her brow furrowing deeper as her gentle demeanor instantly vanished, replaced by a cold, sharp edge.

“Eldest Miss Jiang, don’t be sad. I’m here to keep you company.” A pleasant female voice echoed from the doorbell intercom speaker. It was a voice Jiang Youwan had never heard before.

Jiang Jinyi was disturbed by the ringing. She let out a soft whine and buried herself deeper into the crook of Jiang Youwan’s neck.

For reasons known only to herself, Jiang Youwan slowly raised her hands, placing them over Jiang Jinyi’s ears and gently pressing down.

The sound was muffled considerably, and Jiang Jinyi drifted back into a comfortable sleep.

The doorbell continued to ring for another dozen seconds before finally falling silent. Jiang Youwan couldn’t see a thing, yet she felt a lingering sensation, as though a pair of eyes were staring at her from outside the window—staring with vicious malice.

It was hard to say how much time passed before that feeling of being watched completely vanished.

    The next morning.

When the servants arrived for work and pushed open the front doors, they were greeted by an unexpected, jaw-dropping sight.

Warm sunlight streamed through the glass windows. A woman sat quietly with closed eyes on the rug below the sofa, her expression gentle and tranquil, like some merciful deity offering salvation to all living beings.

Resting on her lap was a girl dressed in a pastel pink-and-white dress. A thin blanket was draped over her, but one of her straps had slipped, exposing a smooth, white shoulder to the air. She lay slightly curled up, her breathing soft and shallow. Dappled in sunlight, she was still fast asleep.

The scene was warm and beautiful—so surreal that it felt utterly dreamlike.

The servants froze in their tracks. Jiang Youwan tilted her head up slightly, knowing someone had entered, but for a moment, she didn’t know what to say.

Xiao Chen looked at Jiang Jinyi, then at Jiang Youwan, a bizarre expression on her face. “M-Miss, why are you sleeping here…?”

Disturbed by the voices, Jiang Jinyi rolled over groggily, burying almost her entire face into Jiang Youwan’s abdomen.

Jiang Youwan could even feel the flutter of her eyelashes lightly brushing against her skin through the fabric.

    She was awake.

Jiang Jinyi grumbled, unwilling to wake. Only after a good while did she finally push herself up from Jiang Youwan’s lap. The moment she lifted her head, she came face-to-face with Jiang Youwan’s ethereal, otherworldly face—her eyes closed as always.

    ???

    !!!

Overwhelmed by shame and fury, Jiang Jinyi wished she could find a hole to crawl into. Without thinking, she grabbed the slipped blanket, threw it over her head, and buried herself entirely in Jiang Youwan’s chest in her current position.

“Get the hell out!” she shrieked at the servants.

With a loud bang, the villa’s heavy front doors were slammed shut, plunging the living room back into silence. However, a certain sweltering heat and rapid heartbeats remained intense.

With Jiang Jinyi curled up in her arms like this, every breath she took was nothing short of torture for Jiang Youwan.

Summer was already hot, but now it felt even hotter…

“They… they’ve already gone out.” Jiang Youwan lowered her head slightly, her voice soft and trembling—completely lacking her easy confidence from the night before.

“Close your eyes,” Jiang Jinyi ordered imperiously from her embrace. Heaven knew how embarrassed she was—so mortified that she didn’t dare emerge from her arms, terrified that the other would see her completely flushed face.

“I’ve had them closed the entire time.”

Only after a short while did Jiang Youwan feel the grip around her waist loosen. The warmth against her chest vanished, and she was finally able to catch her breath.

Jiang Jinyi sat up with a crimson face. Jiang Youwan’s usually pale, serene face was also dusted with a layer of pink, casting a touch of worldly desire over her normally detached, otherworldly demeanor. Seeing this, Jiang Jinyi felt a trace of satisfaction. It seemed she wasn’t the only one feeling embarrassed.

Jiang Jinyi gritted her teeth and threatened fiercely, “Y-You’d better forget everything that happened last night and just now! Otherwise, I’ll make you pack your bags and get the hell out of here immediately!”

She had clearly been looked after and comforted, even using the other’s lap as a pillow for the entire night, yet she was being so fierce now. She was truly unreasonable.

Despite being threatened with eviction, Jiang Youwan didn’t think she was being fierce at all. She obeyed unconditionally, saying, “I don’t remember a thing.”

Jiang Jinyi stared at her for a moment before she was satisfied. “You’d better not remember anything.” She slowly stood up, then quickly bolted toward the stairs.

Scurrying away just like a cat.

Jiang Youwan turned her head, listening as Jiang Jinyi fled. Without even realizing it, a faint curve arched the corners of her lips.

After a long moment, she massaged her numb legs, stood up with her blind cane, and walked slowly to the front door to open it.

After taking a shower and changing into a casual white floral dress, Jiang Jinyi headed downstairs once more. She had already regained her usual cold, aloof, and utterly dismissive demeanor.

The breakfast laid out on the table consisted entirely of Jiang Jinyi’s favorites. A maid poured her a glass of warm milk, sensibly avoiding any mention of what they had witnessed upon entering earlier.

Jiang Jinyi picked up a piece of bread and took a small bite.

“That Snow White Princess carnation is about to wither.”

Just as the maid was about to withdraw, she heard Jiang Jinyi speak those words in an entirely calm, even tone. Startled, the maid quickly racked her brain and stammered uncertainly, “No, I-I just looked at it a moment ago, and it seemed perfectly fine.”

Jiang Jinyi remained expressionless and asserted with absolute certainty, “It is withered.”

“Throw it away later. It doesn’t look good at all.”

    Not looking good?

The maid froze, confirming once again that Jiang Jinyi indeed wanted to discard that Snow White Princess carnation.

    Why throw it away?

But it hadn’t withered, and the young mistress likes it so much.

The maid couldn’t understand, but she could only comply, taking the potted Snow White Princess carnation from the courtyard and throwing it out.

Even after two or three hours had passed, Jiang Jinyi still couldn’t let go of what had happened last night. Whenever she caught sight of Jiang Youwan, she felt incredibly awkward.

Was there anything more humiliating than throwing a drunken tantrum at someone you supposedly detested and sleeping in her arms for an entire night?

    Absolutely not!

What was worse, she couldn’t remember a single thing she had said to Jiang Youwan.

Yet, it had to be said that whether it was because she had vented her sorrows through alcohol last night or because an even more embarrassing situation had overshadowed it, Jiang Jinyi no longer cared about what had transpired at the banquet. She wouldn’t feel sad or hurt over it anymore.

Unable to bear staying at home, Jiang Jinyi grabbed a card and got into her exclusive custom luxury Maybach—the only one of its kind in Luo City—to head to the city’s most bustling shopping center.

With bodyguards trailing behind to carry her purchases, she only had to lift a finger and swipe her card whenever she took a fancy to something.

Midway through her shopping, she stopped by the mall’s restroom.

She had barely pushed her stall door open a crack when it was yanked wide from the outside. The very next second, Qin Yue’s face came into view.

    Jiang Jinyi’s brow furrowed instantly.

Qin Yue had dark, heavy circles under her eyes, and her complexion was haggard. It was obvious she hadn’t slept all night. Her gaze carried a dense, deep-seated resentment.

“Jiang Jinyi,” Qin Yue said, her voice low and hoarse.

Jiang Jinyi’s heart skipped a beat. She took half a step back and warned, “Qin Yue, my bodyguards are right outside.”

Qin Yue took a deep breath. “Xiao Jin, you—”

“Who gave you permission to call me by my nickname?” Jiang Jinyi cut her off completely, her sharp retort freezing the expression on Qin Yue’s face.

Qin Yue let out a self-deprecating, deeply sorrowful laugh. “Does Xiao Jin really not want me as a friend anymore?”

“It’s not that I don’t want you,” Jiang Jinyi said.

Before a trace of hope could even flicker across Qin Yue’s face, Jiang Jinyi added, “It’s that you don’t deserve it.”

Qin Yue’s face turned even more unsightly. Comforting herself with the thought that Jiang Jinyi was merely stubborn, she forced herself to maintain her expression.

“Are you pushing me away because of something Huo Qi said to you? Don’t listen to her. She just wants to drive a wedge between us.”

Qin Yue had spent the entire night racked with confusion, unable to understand how Huo Qi could have known about her conversation with the makeup artist beforehand and left a phone running to let Jiang Jinyi hear the whole thing. It must have been carefully planned long ago.

    Bitch!

She forced herself to stay calm and explained gently, “I didn’t become friends with you for your money. I deeply regret saying those things. It wasn’t my real intention. I just like to talk big and show off in front of others to save face. It was just talk. I never expected you to hear it… I know those words caused a misunderstanding and hurt you, but that’s really not how I feel in my heart. I was just running my mouth. Xiao Jin, please believe me, okay?”

“I truly like you. Haven’t you been wanting to try painting female bodies lately? I can be your model—even a nude model is fine…”

As she spoke, she began releasing her Alpha rose pheromones, deliberately diffusing them. She wanted to induce this Omega into heat1.

She still believed Jiang Jinyi liked her and was simply acting out in anger.

Qin Yue had already planned it all out: entice her into heat, and then give her a temporary mark2. An Omega who received a temporary mark would become exceptionally dependent on the Alpha who marked them during that period. That way, Jiang Jinyi wouldn’t be able to leave her, and she would have the chance to coax her back.

She would have her completely under her thumb.

Having finally secured such a wealthy heiress, how could she ever be willing to let her go?

The Alpha pheromones in the air grew increasingly dense. Jiang Jinyi’s expression gradually began to shift. Her brows furrowed tighter and tighter, discomfort written all over her face.

“Xiao Jin, forgive me, all right?” Believing Jiang Jinyi was on the verge of entering heat under the influence of her pheromones, Qin Yue took a step forward. A smug, controlling smile flashed through her eyes. Suddenly, Jiang Jinyi gagged.

    “Urgh…”

The author has something to say:

Xiao Jin: That was so socially dead QAQ

Jiejie: We can do it many more times.

    Footnotes

    1. Heat (fāqíng) refers to the cyclical biological period of intense arousal and fertility for Omegas in the ABO setting, during which they become highly sensitive to Alpha pheromones.
    2. A temporary mark (línshí biāojì) is a non-permanent bond created when an Alpha bites an Omega's scent gland, temporarily stabilizing their condition and inducing a state of deep biological dependency.
