    Abandoned

    You’re pregnant.

After complete marking, even if the Alpha damages her own gland, the marking effect on the Omega remains intense. Whether day or night, no matter the occasion, no matter how aloof and restrained her demeanor, her body still radiated a rich hyacinth fragrance, reminding her of just how wildly and passionately she and her Alpha had shared such pleasure.

So the moment she returned to the company, anyone who brushed past her, anyone who shared a room with her—as long as they weren’t a Beta—could sense that she was already a marked Omega.

And everyone recognized that Alpha’s pheromones. They were Jiang Jinyi’s.

Jiang Jinyi’s signature hyacinth fragrance—because the Second Miss had thrown quite a few tantrums at the company before, her pheromones could be smelled by an entire floor of people.

    It was truly explosive news.

Word spread through the company in an instant. They gossiped about it every day—no wonder President Jiang had been absent from the company for a month. She had been on her honeymoon with the Second Miss.

They even gossiped about when President Jiang and the Second Miss would get married. Perhaps they had already registered their marriage and simply hadn’t held a wedding yet.

Complete marking was something most people saved for their wedding night.

Done with a sense of ceremony.

So they must have already registered their marriage.

If they held a wedding, just how grand and romantic would President Jiang’s be?

They even teased that President Jiang truly was charismatic—no matter how much the Second Miss had hated her before, she had now been won over, becoming her exclusive Alpha.

The receptionists on the first floor couldn’t even focus on their work, constantly glancing toward the entrance to see if the Second Miss would appear.

After all, even before the two of them had completed their marking, the Second Miss had frequently come to keep President Jiang company. Now that they were completely marked, this was the time when they were most inseparable—wishing they could be glued together twenty-four hours a day.

Someone bet that within half an hour, President Jiang’s Second Miss would show up.

Someone thought that was too fast—having just been sweet for a month, they should at least last two hours.

Someone said that perhaps President Jiang was on the phone with the Second Miss right now, calling her over.

But the receptionists waited all morning and still hadn’t seen Jiang Jinyi.

Not a single bet was right.

So they bet again that President Jiang would definitely go home during her lunch break. They forced themselves to stay awake through the noon hour, but never saw Jiang Youwan come down from the top floor.

They bet again for the afternoon, but Jiang Youwan worked overtime until nine at night.

They erupted again, searching online for how long couples one month past complete marking could bear to be apart before starting to miss each other.

The result: couples one month after complete marking would begin to miss each other and crave reunion after being separated for two hours. Seven hours was the limit—if they hadn’t seen each other after seven hours, whether Omega or Alpha, they would miss the other unbearably, unable to focus on anything at hand, their minds consumed by thoughts of their partner.

    Like withdrawal from addiction.

    How strange.

Several days passed without a single sighting of Jiang Jinyi. This remained a hot topic of gossip among the staff. Someone spotted Jiang Jinyi at the hospital, being tended to by a woman—their intimacy strange, unsettlingly intimate.

The topic of “President Jiang was abandoned by the Second Miss” quickly spread through the company, passing from person to person until everyone knew. These whispers reached many ears—including Lu Jing’s.

Everyone was indignant on Jiang Youwan’s behalf, including Lu Jing.

No matter what, she was someone Lu Jing had once liked. Lu Jing came to Jiang Youwan’s office and found her seated at her desk, single-mindedly handling the work before her.

The moment she drew close, she felt the pampered heiress’s pheromones swirling around her. Those pheromones turned aggressive the instant they touched her—because she was an Alpha, she wasn’t permitted to come near.

Lu Jing frowned, deeply displeased by this sensation, feeling it wasn’t worth it for Jiang Youwan.

“Is there something you need?” Jiang Youwan looked up and saw her, speaking calmly.

Lu Jing cut straight to the chase. “How could you give yourself to a bastard like that?”

“What?” Jiang Youwan didn’t quite understand.

“A few days ago, everyone was talking about how you were getting married.” Lu Jing said angrily, “But now, everyone’s saying that Jiang Jinyi abandoned you. Is it true?”

Jiang Youwan’s eyes stiffened for a moment, but she quickly suppressed it.

It was true—hearing those words made her heart ache, made her feel so wronged.

But she had to appear composed. She smiled and said, “They’re just spreading rumors.”

“So the marriage part was false.” Lu Jing said, “But you being marked and Jiang Jinyi never coming to see you, and her being lovey-dovey with someone else at the hospital—that’s true.”

Jiang Youwan pressed her lips together and said nothing. How could Lu Jing not understand the meaning of her silence? Sharp eyes blazing with anger, she stepped forward, bracing her hands on the desk, and demanded with fury, “How could you let someone like that mark you?”

“You know how important complete marking is for an Omega. To just be abandoned like this—what are you going to do? Just let that bastard off? Jiang Youwan, how can you be so—”

Jiang Youwan snapped at her sharply. “Lu Jing!”

The rest of Lu Jing’s words died in her throat. She froze, then saw that something was wrong with Jiang Youwan’s face.

Jiang Youwan bit her lip, her expression pained. Supporting herself against the desk, she rose unsteadily and hurried toward the lounge with urgent, faltering steps. Worried about her condition, Lu Jing followed, but Jiang Youwan had already locked the lounge door, refusing to let her in.

“Youwan, what’s wrong?!” Lu Jing pounded on the door anxiously. Inside, Jiang Youwan couldn’t answer her. Just one wall apart, the woman who had been sitting impeccably at her desk was now wretchedly curled up among a pile of clothes beside the bed cabinet, breathing rapidly, gripped by fear and panic.

When an Alpha is angry, their fury is uncontrollable. Lu Jing had been very angry just now, her pheromones thick and potent, bearing down directly on Jiang Youwan.

Ordinarily, these aggressive Alpha pheromones wouldn’t have frightened her in the slightest.

But she was fragile now, unable to withstand such stimulation. She couldn’t stop the panicked fear, couldn’t stop the desperate need to seek her own Alpha’s protection.

And so, the craving for Jiang Jinyi surged to its peak once more.

She could only block out Lu Jing’s pheromones, clutching the pile of Xiao Jin’s clothes she had brought, desperately trying to soothe herself.

    “Xiao Jin, Xiao Jin…”

No matter how Lu Jing called out to her from outside, she had no response, unable to leave behind this last pile of Xiao Jin’s clothes even for a second.

Suddenly, her stomach lurched violently. She widened her eyes and had to scramble up, rushing miserably to the sink to dry heave, then coughing until her eyes turned red—but nothing came up.

Lu Jing heard her retching inside. Something flashed through her mind, and her emotions became impossible to settle.

Unable to stop worrying about Jiang Youwan, Lu Jing stayed and kept watch in her office. Three hours later, Jiang Youwan finally calmed down. She pushed the door open and stepped out weakly, asking coldly, “Why haven’t you left yet?”

Lu Jing’s eyes darkened, her expression grim. Without another word, she strode forward and seized Jiang Youwan’s wrist, ordered her sharply not to move, and pressed her index and middle fingers against the pulse point. She paused for a moment, then her eyes tightened, her expression turning grim.

    “You’re pregnant.”

    Pregnant…

    Pregnant.

Upon hearing this, Jiang Youwan immediately called in her private physician for an examination. The result confirmed it—she was indeed pregnant.

Around six weeks pregnant, caused by that complete marking.

Jiang Youwan couldn’t articulate her own feelings. No wonder. No wonder she had been dying to see Xiao Jin even after a month past her marking sensitivity period—it turned out she was carrying a child.

Knowing she was pregnant, Jiang Youwan only felt her longing for her grow even stronger.

    Even harder to suppress.

She even entertained a desperate hope—perhaps with a child, Xiao Jin wouldn’t have the heart to abandon her anymore?

Xiao Jin wouldn’t leave her anymore, would she?

A terrible thought took hold: she would use the child to bind Jiang Jinyi to her.

She knew what kind of person Xiao Jin was. She would hurt herself, but she would never hurt an innocent child.

She could no longer control her desire to see Jiang Jinyi. She drove recklessly, desperately toward the hospital where Jiang Jinyi was staying.

But the moment her car stopped, she saw Jiang Jinyi being helped into the passenger seat by Fu Mingyue and Song Lian.

What stood out was that Xiao Jin was smiling.

That smile of hers played on loop in Jiang Youwan’s mind, over and over again.

Ever since recovering her memories, Xiao Jin had never smiled like that again.

That kind of genuine, heartfelt smile.

Jiang Youwan was truly jealous—jealous that someone else was bringing Xiao Jin real happiness.

She couldn’t be part of that happiness.

She was so sad. Appearing now would only bring her pain, shattering this brief moment of joy.

Jiang Youwan clenched her fists, forcing herself to endure, watching helplessly as she left with someone else.

Why she hadn’t recognized her at first—because the Song Lian standing before her now looked somewhat different from the one in Jiang Jinyi’s memory.

In Jiang Jinyi’s memory, Song Lian was a poised, immaculate woman who always wore a black suit, her makeup meticulous, her expression stern, exuding the authoritative presence of someone who wielded power.

    Very elegant, very aloof.

But now she was different. Her face was visibly more weathered than before, her clothes no longer glamorous—she wore an ordinary down jacket, looking like a traveler who had just rushed back from a long journey.

Jiang Jinyi blinked, confirming that the middle-aged woman before her was indeed Song Lian, and quickly reached out to grab her sleeve, exclaiming in delight, “Secretary Song!”

“The Eldest Miss has gotten much thinner.” Secretary Song frowned, reaching up to stroke her face, murmuring with aching tenderness.

Jiang Jinyi said softly, “Not really…” but her eyes never left Song Lian for even a moment.

In eighteen years of memories, Secretary Song had always been by her mother’s side, giving Jiang Jinyi the illusion that Secretary Song existed solely for her mother.

Her mother had disappeared, and Secretary Song had disappeared too. Now seeing Secretary Song again, Jiang Jinyi only felt her eyes grow hot, thinking of her mother.

If only her mother could come back too.

At this moment, Fu Mingyue happened to walk toward the two of them. She had come to pick up Jiang Jinyi, and seeing Song Lian, she paused for a moment before greeting her politely, “Secretary Song, it’s been a while.”

Song Lian replied politely, “President Fu.”

“This isn’t the place to catch up. Let’s step aside to talk.”

Song Lian nodded. Fu Mingyue shielded Jiang Jinyi as the three of them left the hospital together.

Once in the car, Fu Mingyue was curious. “Secretary Song, it seems you’ve been gone for a long time. Why the sudden return?”

“Because I heard Xiao Jin was hospitalized.” Song Lian explained that she had rushed straight to the hospital the moment she got off the plane.

She said, “I heard about it when Xiao Jin was first admitted, but I truly couldn’t get away from matters abroad, which is why I could only come see Xiao Jin now.”

She turned to look at Jiang Jinyi, whose nape was bandaged, her eyes filled with aching tenderness. “I wasn’t here during this time, and Xiao Jin has suffered.”

Jiang Jinyi lowered her eyes and said nothing.

Before returning, Song Lian had learned everything that had happened to Jiang Jinyi domestically. She felt only heartache and sorrow.

In Song Lian’s eyes, Jiang Jinyi was like her own child. She had watched Jiang Jinyi grow up. She knew how spoiled Jiang Jinyi was—for her to do something like this to herself, she must have been pushed to the absolute limit.

Looking on the bright side, perhaps it counted as a kind of growth.

She thanked Fu Mingyue, “Thank you, President Fu, for taking care of Xiao Jin during this time.”

Fu Mingyue smiled elegantly. “Thanks would make us strangers. Xiao Jin is family to me too.”

Jiang Jinyi didn’t want to hear them chat about this and changed the subject, asking, “What have you been busy with abroad all this time, Secretary Song?”

    “Investigating something very important.”

Song Lian didn’t keep her in suspense. “Eldest Miss, Chairman Jiang may still be alive.”

Jiang Jinyi froze, as if struck motionless. She held her breath, staring at Song Lian, afraid to make a sound for fear she had misheard.

Fu Mingyue beside her was equally stunned.

    “You—what did you say?”

Song Lian said to Jiang Jinyi, word by word, with utmost gravity and seriousness, “The real Chairman Jiang is very likely still alive.”

“The Chairman Jiang who appeared in the Jiang family for the past five years, who recently died in a car crash while fleeing justice—was not your mother.”
