    Very Playful

    “Yanyan… she’s gone…”

The following morning, Dan Lin estimated the time and sent Yu Yan a message asking if she was awake and needed breakfast. Barely a moment after the message was sent, footsteps sounded from upstairs, and Yu Yan walked down the stairs at an unhurried pace, her hand resting lightly on the banister.

“Good morning.” Her eyes curved, and she took the initiative to greet Dan Lin.

At a glance, her condition seemed much better than it had been yesterday. Dan Lin was slightly surprised, but also pleasantly so. “Good morning, Young Miss. I just sent you a message to ask if you needed breakfast. What would you like to have?”

“Where’s Fu Yunqing?” Yu Yan asked instead of answering. “Did she say when she’d be back?”

“Um, not yet…” Dan Lin said. “If you need, I can ask her right away.”

“Oh, no need. I can ask her myself.” Yu Yan stopped in front of her and studied her closely, sighing inwardly that Dan Lin really hadn’t changed one bit—still so loyal and thoughtful.

Dan Lin was unsettled by her gaze and touched her cheek. “Is there something on my face?”

“No.” Seeing her tension, Yu Yan wanted to laugh, recalling how she’d previously called her a kidnapper. “I just wanted to ask you, am I allowed to go out?”

Only then did Dan Lin realize that Yu Yan was already dressed up, fully prepared to go out.

Dan Lin immediately grew vigilant. “You can… but I must stay by your side.”

Dan Lin spoke without much confidence. She knew Yu Yan loathed this and was terrified of provoking her anger again.

Ah, so that’s how it is.

She was actually allowed to go out. Fu-jiejie was still a bit too soft-hearted.

Dan Lin hadn’t expected Yu Yan to speak to her in such an amiable tone: “Can I go out to get some fresh air? I’ve been cooped up at home for several days. Will you just follow behind me?”

Dan Lin was taken aback, then nodded vigorously. “Of course.”

“Thank you~” Yu Yan even thanked her with a smile.

Dan Lin drove Yu Yan to the mall. After having some breakfast, Yu Yan said she wanted to look around and buy some clothes and bags. After all, her mood had been so terrible these past two days; if she didn’t buy something to comfort herself, she wouldn’t know how to get through it. Besides, she also wanted to buy a gift to coax Fu-jiejie—Fu-jiejie was probably still angry right now.

Dan Lin naturally raised no objections, staying by her side and waiting to pay for her. Yu Yan selected two outfits and had the sales assistant pack them. Suddenly, she felt a craving for milk tea. She specified a particular shop and her preferred order, asking Dan Lin to go buy it for her. Dan Lin naturally felt this was improper and hesitated, wanting to refuse. Seeing that she wasn’t moving, Yu Yan frowned slightly, casting an inquiring glance at her.

But she only spared her a fleeting glance. The next second, Yu Yan turned back to the assistant. “Wrap these two up as well. Are there any new shoes? Show them to me.”

With that, Yu Yan was led away by the assistant, seemingly completely engrossed in shopping. Seeing her like this, without a hint of anything unusual, Dan Lin forced her doubts down. She really didn’t want Yu Yan to be dissatisfied with her again.

The milk tea shop was not far, just on the outer edge of the mall. If she was quick, she could return in five minutes. Dan Lin caught up to her and said, “Then I’ll go buy it for you. Please wait a moment.”

Yu Yan was looking at shoes, not even sparing her a glance, but out of Dan Lin’s sight, her lips curled upward slightly. “Okay~”

Since there were few people in the mall during the morning, Dan Lin moved very quickly. Carrying the milk tea, she hurried back to the shop, only to be struck with utter shock—Yu Yan was already nowhere to be seen.

Dan Lin’s pupils contracted, and a cold sweat broke out across her back. Feeling as though a great disaster were looming, she turned to search for her, but the sales assistant caught her arm, stuffing the heavy assortment of shopping bags into her hands with a smile.

“Miss Yu said she had some urgent business to take care of first. She said her bodyguard could pay and take them back home.”

When Fu Mingya heard that Fu Yunqing had been staying alone at Yunyuju for two days, she knew something must have gone wrong. Out of concern, she took some time out of her morning specifically to visit her jiejie.

This visit absolutely broke her heart. Her jiejie was so haggard, looking as if she hadn’t slept in days. Her eyes were gloomy and lifeless, shattering the heart of anyone who looked at her.

“How did you get hurt like this again?”

Fu Yunqing sat in the courtyard, staring blankly at nothing in particular. Today was freezing, with a perceived temperature below zero. In the depths of winter, this was Yuncheng’s coldest period. Yet she wasn’t even wearing a coat, her hands frozen red, as if she could feel nothing at all—looking every bit like a terminally ill patient. Fu Mingya sat opposite her, her heart aching for her. “What’s wrong? Assistant Liang said you’ve been staying here for two days without going home. Did you have a fight with that little meimei?”

Fu Yunqing had heavy dark circles under her slightly swollen eyes. Her face was pale, and she didn’t respond.

Perhaps she was too exhausted, or perhaps too powerless. The more fragile she was, the stronger her sense of brokenness. A look like this would move any meimei, driving them to try and comfort her one after another. Yet she insisted on hanging herself from that single, crooked tree—the one with lush foliage but a fickle, unfaithful heart.

Fu Mingya draped the coat handed over by her assistant across her shoulders, exasperated by her cousin’s lack of resolve. “Didn’t I warn you last time to be careful?”

“You’ve already suffered once, and you know what her temperament is like. Don’t take her too seriously. At least keep the upper hand yourself. Find ways to suppress her so she’ll be more obedient. Don’t give that little ingrate another chance to hurt you. What’s the situation now? Is she threatening to break up with you again?”

“Mingya, I was the one who hurt her.” Fu Yunqing’s voice carried a tired hoarseness, weak as a thread of silk.

Fu Mingya was utterly astonished. “You hurt her?”

Fu Yunqing took a deep breath and looked away.

It was indeed her actions that had hurt her. She had been too hysterical, too abnormal, too suffocating.

No one could stand a lover like that, and Fu Yunqing couldn’t stand herself either. She hated what she’d become—wildly frantic, yet stubbornly unrepentant, pushing their relationship to the edge of an irreversible abyss.

But she was already at her wits’ end. Over the past two days, she had constantly thought with paranoid obsession: if she could keep her tied to her side forever, would it even matter if they completely wore away the last of their dignity? Even if it made Yu Yan hate her more and more, wouldn’t that still be better than letting her go, being forgotten by her, and watching her be with someone else, right?

This was a dark tunnel stretching with endless pain, yet upon closer reflection, she actually found it somewhat blissful. At least Yu Yan’s eyes would always be filled with hatred for her. Hate was such a profound emotion; it would surely last longer than any love she had for her. They would be entangled forever, never to part. Fu Yunqing knew she’d gone mad.

She thought, Yanyan must resent me so much right now.

Yu Yan definitely wouldn’t want to see her, and Fu Yunqing didn’t dare face her either. In truth, she was still terrified of seeing disgust in Yu Yan’s eyes, still paralyzed by the fear that Yu Yan would stand before her and stubbornly insist on leaving.

It was like a knife, carving one bloody gash after another across her heart until she was riddled with wounds, aching beyond endurance.

“So you’re just hiding here? Don’t you think the two of you should sit down and talk things through? You—” A ringing phone interrupted Fu Mingya’s words. Fu Yunqing murmured a low apology and picked up her phone from the tea table.

On the other end of the line was Dan Lin: “Teacher Fu… I’m sorry, Yanyan… she’s gone…”

It was like a sudden bolt of lightning.

“…What?” Fu Yunqing stood up and walked swiftly out of the courtyard. Fu Mingya stood up as well. “Eh? What’s wrong?”

“Where did she go missing? Didn’t I tell you to watch her closely?” Fu Yunqing lost control, her voice sharp and harsh. “Where are you right now? Contact Assistant Liang immediately and send people to look for her!”

She quickly vanished beyond the courtyard gate, without even a word of goodbye to Fu Mingya.

“My god…” Fu Mingya was incredulous. She had just been advising her cousin to go back and talk things through, and now the girl had actually run away.

What was she going to do now? Her mental state was already unstable, and now everything was completely ruined, wasn’t it?

In truth, Fu Mingya didn’t think what Fu Yunqing had done was any kind of terrible wrong—if someone was disobedient, they ought to be properly disciplined and controlled.

She thought, If that woman who left without saying goodbye ever appeared before my eyes again, I would absolutely use every means at my disposal to take revenge and bind her to my side forever.

She’d never be as gentle as Yunqing.

Fu Yunqing immediately contacted her security team to search for Yu Yan in Yuncheng. She sat in her car, wanting to start the engine, but her mind was a total blank. Powerless, she leaned down, resting her arms on the steering wheel, taking deep, shuddering breaths.

Yu Yan had run away. What did that mean? It meant a torturous, agonizing ordeal would follow her. She didn’t know where to look for her. If Yu Yan was determined to hide from her, could she really find her? She forced herself to sit up, opened her phone, and tapped into her chat window with Yu Yan.

Fu Yunqing wanted to call her and send her messages, but if Yu Yan wanted to flee, how could she possibly pick up the phone? She wouldn’t reply to messages either.

Didn’t Fu Yunqing understand that better than anyone? Once she wanted to leave, she’d never look back.

Fu Yunqing raised her head. The world before her eyes was dark and dim. Despair flooded her entire body, leaving her barely able to hold herself up.

    Suddenly, her phone rang again.

Fu Yunqing glanced at it and saw a number she recognized. She immediately answered it, taking a deep breath. “Hello?”

“Teacher Fu.” A calm female voice came from the other end. Fu Yunqing knew who it was. Having suddenly found a destination, she immediately started the car and demanded, “Where’s Yu Yan?”

“She said she went out to play first.” Speaking of which, that girl really was quite mischievous.

Fu Yunqing’s brow furrowed deeply. “Where to?”

“She didn’t tell me,” Lu Yu said. “But she wanted me to tell you that she has something to give you.”

    “What is it?”

“Come to my place to get it.”

Fu Yunqing floored it all the way, taking twenty minutes to reach Lu Yu’s apartment. The first thing she did upon entering was disregard everything else to search everywhere to see if Yu Yan was there. It was useless for Lu Yu to tell her she wasn’t here. Only after letting her finish searching did Lu Yu smile helplessly. “Yanyan really isn’t here with me, and I honestly don’t know where she’s gone.”

Fu Yunqing was filled with anxiety. “What does she want to give me?”

    “Come with me.”

Lu Yu led her into the room Yu Yan used to live in, opened a utility cabinet, and with a bit of effort, pulled out the white passcode safe from deep inside.

    “What is this?”

“The thing Yanyan wants to give you.” Lu Yu carried the safe over and set it before her. “This safe is hers. Her things are kept inside, but I’ve never seen her open it, so I don’t know what’s in there either.”

Lu Yu stood up, her eyes still smiling, seemingly trying to ease the extremely tense atmosphere Fu Yunqing had brought with her.

“Yanyan called me today and said she’s recovered her memories. She wants to tell you that she never betrayed you, and she’s never been with anyone else.”

“She said Fu-jiejie must still remember their passcode.”
