Yet She Didn’t Seem Obedient At All

    Clingy.

She didn’t want to go to sleep so soon, because she hadn’t spent enough time properly keeping Fu-jiejie company.

What could she do to keep Fu Yunqing company? Chat? Fu Yunqing had to work.

Even if she did nothing at all, she still wanted to stay by the beautiful woman’s side.

Yu Yan was actually quite well-behaved. She wasn’t noisy, she didn’t cause trouble, and she played her games quietly without ever swearing. Even if she lost, she wouldn’t make a single sound of complaint; she would only frown to herself and start over.

Fu Yunqing was using her laptop. Yu Yan just sat beside her the entire time. She wasn’t leaning on her shoulder anymore, but she still sat very close—close enough that their arms would occasionally brush.

    She lost again.

After losing three rounds in a row, Yu Yan felt a little discouraged. Unable to hold back a heavy huff of breath, she exited the game and turned off her phone.

Curled up on the sofa with her arms wrapped around her knees in sheer boredom, she glanced over at Fu Yunqing’s screen. The laptop was filled with things she couldn’t understand. No good—just one look made her dizzy from all the text.

Being a rich jiejie wasn’t easy either.

Yu Yan narrowed her eyes, growing drowsy.

The plane flew smoothly through the clouds. Yu Lan had already excused herself and returned to her room. At this moment, only Fu Yunqing and Yu Yan remained in the cabin’s lounge area.

Condensation slid down the glass of iced coffee at her hand, pooling into a small puddle. Beneath the faint hum of the engines that her ears had grown accustomed to, Yu Yan, who had stayed to keep her company, was very quiet. Whether her senses were simply too sharp or she was subconsciously directing a portion of her attention toward the girl, Fu Yunqing remained entirely aware of Yu Yan’s state.

She had been holding her phone and playing a game, seemingly growing a bit frustrated before turning it off. Without anything to hold her attention, she felt exhaustion surge up. She was so sleepy she couldn’t even keep her eyes open, likely already hovering in a half-asleep, half-awake daze.

    Fu Yunqing remained impassive.

A few minutes later, her continuously drooping head accidentally came to rest on Fu Yunqing’s shoulder once more.

As that slight weight pressed down, Fu Yunqing stopped typing. Her fingertips stalled over the keyboard. She turned her head and saw the fluffy crown of Yu Yan’s hair, her smooth forehead, her long, peacefully resting eyelashes, and the elegant curve of her nose.

    Quiet and soft.

Why was she still refusing to go to sleep when she was this exhausted, insisting on staying here to keep her company?

    So stubborn.

It made Fu Yunqing think of a friend’s cat, dozing off right next to the computer monitor.

Fu Yunqing didn’t have much work left; she planned to finish up after replying to the current email. She deliberately slowed her movements. Yu Yan didn’t wake up. Now that her head had some support, she fell into an even deeper sleep.

But as she closed the laptop, Fu Yunqing suddenly felt a twinge of regret.

Without something to serve as a cover, how could she justify letting this moment continue with peace of mind?

    She felt conflicted.

A minor mistake from a flight attendant shattered the almost guilty hesitation in her inner world. While clearing away Fu Yunqing’s coffee saucer, the attendant accidentally made a slight clinking sound. Though brief, it was enough to wake Yu Yan, who hadn’t been sleeping deeply on her shoulder. The girl opened her eyes and subconsciously frowned.

    Morning grumpiness.1

The conflict settled at that exact moment. With a perfectly reasonable excuse at hand, Fu Yunqing supported Yu Yan’s head and said naturally, “Alright, go inside and sleep.”

Seeing that Fu Yunqing had already closed her laptop, Yu Yan murmured an “Mhm.” “Is Fu-jiejie done working?”

    “I’m done,” Fu Yunqing said.

    “Mhm…” she replied groggily.

Looking down to slip on the slippers brought over by the attendant, Yu Yan followed right behind Fu Yunqing into the bedroom area. There were three small suites in total—exactly one for each of them. Fu Yunqing had already arranged for her luggage to be brought inside.

In the middle of the room sat a comfortable, soft double bed roughly 1.5 metres wide. From the bedside, one could look through the window at the vast, white sky outside. It looked so cozy that Yu Yan felt she could fall asleep the second she lay down on it.

She threw herself onto it, lying on her stomach to enjoy the feeling for a moment before turning her head to look at Fu Yunqing. Fu Yunqing was standing by the doorframe, looking down at her.

Just standing there, slightly backlit, she looked so soft it was as if she could melt right into the light. Once again, Yu Yan was thoroughly stunned by her beauty.

“Fu-jiejie…” What should she do? The reluctance to part ways with Fu Yunqing right now surged up again. What to do? It was Yu Yan’s destiny to want to stay by a beautiful woman’s side. She blinked, making a half-joking, whiny request: “Can you sleep with me? I think I’m a little scared. This is my first time sleeping in a bed on a private jet.”

    “…”

    “Are you still a child?”

Fu Yunqing’s panic was imperceptible. She held onto the doorframe and quickly added, “It’s very safe, there’s no need to be afraid. We still have eleven hours until we reach our destination. Sleep peacefully.”

    Aww.

    Rejected by the beauty.

The beauty closed the door for her and left.

Fu Yunqing’s room was right next door. She stepped out into the hall and glanced back, the pause in her steps betraying the hesitation in her heart. Suddenly, she felt a bit of regret.

The regret was dense, spreading steadily across her chest.

To reject her so quickly like that, without padding it with a softer joke—would Yu Yan misunderstand? Would she think that Fu Yunqing was trying to keep her distance and didn’t want to be too close to her?

That wasn’t the case at all. It was just that the request was somewhat sensitive and completely outside Fu Yunqing’s expectations. She had been caught off guard.

Was she really scared? Looking at those curved, smiling eyes, it was hard to believe.

She was always like this. She seemed very well-behaved, yet simultaneously didn’t seem obedient at all. She possessed a touch of slyness and willfulness, and just a little bit of excessive initiative.

For example, revealing her crush during their very first meeting, calling her ‘Wife’ without any warning, sending that somewhat ambiguous photo with the message ‘Only for you to see,’ and the multiple unexpected moments of physical intimacy—along with this feeling that she was clinging to her.

She really seemed to be clinging to her.

She seemed to be… flirting with her.

Yu Yan slept for three hours. When mealtime arrived, Yu Lan came to wake her up.

At that moment, Yu Yan was still having a sweet dream. She and her besties had just met a new jiejie at a bar, and they had just added each other on WeChat. Before she could even send a greeting sticker2, Yu Lan’s noise jolted her awake. Opening her eyes and seeing Yu Lan standing coldly by the bed, she felt her heart sink. The woman spoke in a commanding tone: “Your Fu-jiejie is eating right now. You’ve slept long enough… Get up and go keep her company.”

“Oh…” And so, a sullen Yu Yan quite logically transferred a portion of her morning grumpiness onto Fu Yunqing.

Dragging herself out of bed with extreme reluctance, she wiped her face with a wet wipe, took a sip of water, and walked out of the room. Fu Yunqing was already seated at the dining table, eating. Yu Yan sat down across from her and offered a rather displeased greeting. Fu Yunqing asked her, “What would you like to eat?”

Yu Yan muttered gloomily, “The same as you is fine.”

A serving of Charolais steak3 was quickly brought to Yu Yan. She murmured a ‘thank you,’ picked up her knife and fork, and began to eat in silence. She was so absent-minded it was as if she were sleepwalking. She didn’t exchange a single word with Fu Yunqing the entire time, and after she finished, she simply said, “I’m full. Take your time eating, Fu-jiejie,” before leaving the dining area.

    Charolais steak

She was in such a daze, still nursing a bit of resentment, that she completely failed to notice Fu Yunqing’s plate had been empty for a long time. The woman had been sitting properly across from her the whole time, just to keep her company.
