On the Wedding Night, I Transmigrated to After the Divorce – Chapter 4
by Little PandaCapricorn vs. Scorpio
I’m taking her down tonight!
During the 60-second red light, Yu Yan heard a soft laugh escape with Fu Yunqing’s breath.
So, have you been the most loyal little fish for every pretty jiejie on your list during this time?
How many pretty jiejies have you said that to?
Fu Yunqing didn’t say anything more, but that quiet laugh sent ripples through Yu Yan’s heart. She pulled out her phone and typed in the Besties’ Group Chat: 【Omg my wife is so charming, I’m about to fall at her pomegranate skirt1!】
Shen Rui: 【Wife? Young Miss, didn’t you say last night you were going to run away from the marriage?】
Liang Su: 【Photo or it didn’t happen】
Huo Xixi: 【Let’s see the beauty】
The group chat was full of her roommates. Though Yu Yan rarely stayed in the dorms they were initially assigned to, it hadn’t stopped them from becoming her carefree, fun-loving friends. They were long accustomed to dealing with Miss Yu’s particular brand of madness.
Just last night, Yu Yan had been full of anxiety, talking in the group about just running away. She didn’t want to be controlled. With her looks and her sharp tongue, she could probably make good money as a streamer.
The others’ evaluation: Not an entirely bad idea.
Yu Yan: 【There are photos of her online, search for yourselves. University instructor, high-level guzheng master, won a ton of major awards】
Yu Yan: 【Only a fool would run away from a wife like this】
Shen Rui replied: 【Whoa, what an impressive beauty】
Yu Yan: 【She looks super capable】
Shen Rui: 【Careful she doesn’t eat you alive!】
Huo Xixi: 【Just searched for photos. She’s such a Jie2】
Liang Su: 【Our Yanyan is a total 03, it’s a perfect match】
Yu Yan: 【Who said that? Who said I’m a 0?】
Yu Yan: 【I’m gonna take her down tonight!】
The three of them: 【Yeah, yeah, sure】
Yu Yan was just a ‘mouth cannon’4.
She was just a ‘mouth cannon’. She wasn’t nearly that bold.
Suppressing the upward curl of her lips, Yu Yan put her phone back in her bag. Sitting obediently in the passenger seat, she felt a little intimidated next to such a stunning woman with such a powerful aura. She occasionally glanced in the mirror to fix her hair.
She had dressed up quite nicely today. Her long, black hair was smooth and straight, her makeup was light, and her French bow-tie blouse paired with a pleated skirt gave off a perfect campus-style sweet girl vibe. It was an impeccable match for a ‘Jie’ like Fu Yunqing.
They were going to get their marriage license, but Yu Yan felt like she was heading to a high-fashion photoshoot. The anxiety of sealing herself in the tomb of marriage was gone.
So when the “red booklets”5 were in her hands, it didn’t feel real at all. Yu Yan held one, turning it over and over, examining it from every angle before snapping a picture to send to Yu Lan to report that the mission was complete. Fu Yunqing was born in ’92, ten years older than her. And a Scorpio. She herself was a Capricorn who had just turned twenty. She was supposed to be in the prime of her youthful freedom, yet here she was, a married woman.
A married woman…
And just like that, the anxiety was back.
“Alright, let’s go.”
Fu Yunqing’s unruffled voice came from beside her. Yu Yan turned to look, watching as she put the marriage certificate in her bag and stood up to leave.
A faint, elegant fragrance drifted from Fu Yunqing. It was a classic scent, steady yet light, like camellia flowers steeped with bamboo leaves. It wasn’t overpowering, just threads of it melting into the air, reassuring and pleasant.
Was it her perfume? Yu Yan had noticed it in the car; her car freshener had the same scent.
Fu Yunqing really had taste. Her Grandma, she recalled, had also been a famous master of traditional instruments.
The whole family carried an air of refined grace.
But then again.
Yu Yan was getting annoyed now. This sudden onslaught of complicated feelings about being married had no outlet, and it was incredibly frustrating. She was filled with confusion and helplessness about the future, so how could her wife be so relaxed?
She absolutely refused to be the only one suffering! It had always been Yu Yan who made others miserable, not the other way around.
Her brow furrowed. Yu Yan took a few quick steps forward and took hold of the hand Fu Yunqing had let fall by her side.
Fu Yunqing’s hand was cool to the touch. Her skin was as fine and smooth as polished bamboo, bony, yet soft.
Fu Yunqing froze for a second. Yu Yan felt the stiffness in her hand, and her subconscious urge to pull away was checked by a moment of hesitation. Fu Yunqing let her hold it. She turned her head and asked, “What’s wrong?”
She was letting her hold her hand.
Yu Yan’s mood inexplicably brightened. She was secretly delighted, but she put on a pitifully wronged yet fierce expression. “I’m your wife now, but you’re still so cold to me. Aren’t you going to keep me in line?”
Keep her in line?
Did Yu Yan need to be kept in line?
And did she really think Fu Yunqing was being cold to her?
Fu Yunqing’s gaze swept over Yu Yan’s pleading eyes. After a moment, she lowered her gaze. The hand held within the girl’s warm palm gently squeezed back. “Let’s go,” she said again.
Her voice was very soft, very even, as if it held infinite indulgence.
So gentle. She’s going to charm the life out of me.
Fu Yunqing wasn’t wearing high heels. Yu Yan straightened her back and realized Fu-jiejie was only a tiny bit taller than her. A perfect, perfect match. Walking out of the Civil Affairs Bureau hand-in-hand with her, Yu Yan felt light-headed and dazed.
As if in response to Yu Yan’s complaint about not being kept in line, Fu Yunqing turned her head and took the initiative to ask, “Do you want to get something to eat?”
“Is Fu-jiejie taking me?”
Would she only go if Fu-jiejie was taking her? Why ask the obvious?
“Mhm,” Fu Yunqing said.
“What do you want to eat?”
“Whatever Fu-jiejie likes to eat, of course.”
The silver-tongued Yu Yan.
She looked so well-behaved, and her words were so sweet.
Fu Yunqing didn’t comment on her undisguised fawning, merely letting the corners of her lips curve into a small smile. She turned her head away, leaving Yu Yan with a view of her elegant profile as a few strands of her hair swayed.
This was indulgence. Yu Yan knew it well.
Yu Yan hummed a happy little laugh and, deciding one hand wasn’t enough, wrapped her other arm around Fu Yunqing’s, practically gluing half her body to her side. It seemed their relationship had warmed up in an instant. Fu Yunqing didn’t refuse.
Yu Yan was very clever. She had known since she was a child that she was pretty and cute, and that as long as she made the first sweet move, she would be doted on by all sorts of women. She sat in Fu-jiejie’s passenger seat and went with Fu-jiejie to a restaurant she frequented.
Fu Yunqing had brought her to an Italian restaurant. The owner knew Fu Yunqing and came out to greet them personally. He nosily asked who Yu Yan was to her. Yu Yan pricked up her ears, listening as Fu Yunqing said she was a younger sister from the family.
A younger sister, huh.
Fu Yunqing let her order. After the meal, Yu Yan didn’t want to part ways just yet. Pushing her luck, she asked Fu Yunqing to go shopping with her. Fu Yunqing didn’t refuse and even bought her several bags and dresses that Yu Yan wanted but couldn’t afford after blowing through her allowance. Yu Yan was ecstatic.
Did this count as a date? Yu Yan didn’t know. By the time they got in the car to head home, it was already four in the afternoon. Yu Yan had suffered from insomnia last night and had woken up early this morning. She was exhausted.
Maybe her heart was just that big, or maybe she was just that at ease with Fu Yunqing, but she started to doze off in the passenger seat. In a half-awake state, she heard Fu Yunqing whisper in her ear that they had arrived. Yu Yan opened her eyes, rubbed them, and let out a soft “mhm” from her throat.
“So sleepy. I got up at seven to do my makeup,” she mumbled. Makeup she had put on for Fu Yunqing.
Seeing her so groggy, Fu Yunqing leaned over to help her unbuckle her seatbelt. “Go home and sleep,” she said.
As she drew near, Yu Yan once again caught that elegant scent on her. They were so close. Invading Yu Yan’s senses along with the fragrance was her warm, steady breath. The warmth made the scent feel more intimate.
Yu Yan blinked. She really was so gentle. Though she didn’t say much and seemed like a noble, aloof beauty—a flower on a high mountain6—she was also mature, generous, and especially indulgent toward Yu Yan. This was only the third time they had met, yet it felt like Yu Yan could be as willful as she wanted around her. She had spent over eight hundred thousand of her money on all those bags, and though Yu Yan promised she would pay her back as soon as she got her allowance from Yu Lan, the way she had swiped her card without a word, as calm as still water, was just fatally charming.
Her dream ‘jie’ couldn’t be more perfect.
As these thoughts ran through her mind, Yu Yan’s gaze grew tender. She was about to part with Fu-jiejie, and she was surprised to find herself reluctant to leave. She wanted to do something more.
She wanted to stir up a little more trouble.
“Fu-jiejie…”
“Hm?” Fu Yunqing’s fingertips were nimble. The seatbelt came undone with a single touch. She pulled back and lifted her eyes to look at her.
“I don’t want to go home,” Yu Yan said softly.
Don’t want to go home?
Fu Yunqing said nothing, waiting for her to continue.
Yu Yan must have eaten a bear’s heart and a leopard’s gall7. Emboldened by Fu Yunqing’s indulgence, on a sudden impulse, she actually threw her arms around her. She wrapped her arms around Fu Yunqing’s waist, rested her chin on Fu Yunqing’s soft shoulder, and bonelessly tucked herself into her embrace.
She really loved cuddling with beautiful women. She whispered, “Why don’t you take me with you, Fu-jiejie?”
“I really don’t want to go home and face my mom.”
She closed her eyes and gently nuzzled Fu Yunqing’s shoulder, her tone making it unclear if she was joking. “I’m yours now anyway, right?”
In the end, Yu Yan still said goodbye to Fu Yunqing and went home.
It wasn’t because Fu Yunqing kicked her out of the car, nor was it because Fu Yunqing pushed her away. It was because Yu Yan was, by nature, someone who was just chasing a ‘verbal high’8.
When she got carried away, she could say anything, and she wouldn’t take responsibility for half of it. That was just the kind of person she was, which was why she’d been called a player more than a few times.
She had buried her face in Fu Yunqing’s shoulder and felt the older woman’s breathing quicken, the rise and fall of her chest becoming more obvious. Fu Yunqing hadn’t pushed her away. She had simply lowered her head to look at her.
“Do you… not get along with your mother?” Fu Yunqing had asked. The hoarseness and distinct pause on the first few words were obvious.
Yu Yan didn’t know what kind of look was in her eyes at that moment, nor did she know if Fu Yunqing was actually considering the feasibility of her words—of taking her home.
Yu Yan blinked, let out a couple of soft whimpers, and pulled out of the embrace. “Not at all. She’s never had a nice thing to say to me my whole life. And she’s really good at forcing me, at blackmailing me.”
A thoughtful look entered Fu Yunqing’s eyes.
“Alright,” Yu Yan said, her simple complaint over. She twisted around to grab her shopping bags from the back seat, hopped nimbly out of the car, and bent down to give a sweet farewell to Fu Yunqing through the window. “Thank you for today! Bye-bye, Fu-jiejie~”
Fu Yunqing didn’t say anything, or rather, she didn’t have time to. From the hug to the departure, Yu Yan’s series of actions had been so swift, it was as if she hadn’t given her any time to react.
Fu Yunqing turned her head, quietly watching Yu Yan go inside.
With Yu Yan gone, the atmosphere in the car returned to Fu Yunqing’s usual cool tranquility. She was a bit distracted. Lowering her gaze, she noticed that the lipstick Yu Yan had used for a touch-up was still in the glove compartment, forgotten.
The author has something to say:
Yu Yan: I totally got to her.
