Have You Thought About Being With Her?

Wanting to date many at once

Fu Yunqing rushed back to her car and tapped into the chat window—the one she had opened countless times over the past few days, only to find it completely lifeless.

Since that day, Yu Yan hadn’t come to find her, hadn’t attended her classes, and hadn’t sent her a single message.

It had been exactly one week.

A week that was incredibly agonizing and painful for Fu Yunqing.

At first, she had been furious, angry, and deeply disappointed. But gradually, she became afraid. She was terrified that this week of total silence would infinitely extend—repeating the past—turning into that bleak, dark year where Yu Yan completely vanished from her world.

She could no longer see through Yu Yan’s thoughts at a single glance like she used to. She had no idea what she was thinking. After being rejected by her, was Yu Yan discouraged or disheartened? Was she hurt and resentful? Or did she simply not care? In her livestreams, she was still so happy, laughing and joking, completely carefree. It seemed Fu Yunqing truly meant nothing to her.

Was she planning to give up?

Over the past few days, Fu Yunqing kept recalling the sad expression on Yu Yan’s face when she had rejected her, and the helpless gaze she had directed at her when the thermos cup fell and crashed to the floor.

Yu Yan was like a child to her—someone to worry about, dote on, and indulge. She would always make mistakes and be disobedient, but no matter what happened, Fu Yunqing had never once considered giving up on her. She had never thought they would separate one day, never thought Yu Yan would leave, and certainly never imagined the day would come when Yu Yan would shed tears because Fu Yunqing didn’t want her.

Did she cry afterward? Because Fu Yunqing didn’t want her and had embarrassed her in front of so many people… A sudden, sharp pain twisted in Fu Yunqing’s chest.

She didn’t know what to do, how to face her, how to handle or accept the fact that Yu Yan had been unfaithful to her. She hated her, yet she found it impossible to stop loving her, impossible to give up on her.

She couldn’t imagine her disappearing from her world again, couldn’t imagine truly losing her forever, severing all ties.

Suffering in torment, Fu Yunqing realized that Xiao Jing’s apology was a perfect step down1. If she took the initiative to message her, given Yu Yan’s personality, she would certainly interpret it as a proactive olive branch. She would be happy and smug, reverting back to the joyous and passionate Yu Yan who would throw herself at her, pour out her grievances, pester her, and draw close.

This way, at least they would still be entangled. At least she wouldn’t have vanished from her world.

Fu Yunqing compromised. But when she drafted the message and sent it, she didn’t receive Yu Yan’s excited reply. Instead, she was met with a red exclamation mark2—a gentle system prompt indicating they were no longer friends on the app.

    Fu Yunqing froze.

Her eyes widened. She trembled uncontrollably, the blood in her veins seemingly freezing over, leaving her body entirely cold.

Aside from Yu Yan, it seemed the whole world had cats.

Li Tong had two cats at home. One she had brought back from a cattery, and the other she had picked up off the street.

When Li Tong treated her to a meal, Yu Yan accidentally caught a glimpse of her phone wallpaper as it sat on the table. She had assumed it was a picture saved from the internet. Seeing her stare at it, Li Tong told her it was a photo of her own cats.

“Both cats are very clingy. When I’m home, they follow me wherever I go. If I’m not careful, I’ll step on their tails.”

Wow, so clingy. “Are they scared of strangers?” Yu Yan asked.

Li Tong shook her head with a smile. “No, they’ll pester strangers too. They just stare at them because they’re too curious.”

Wow, so bold and naturally familiar. “What if a stranger holds them?” Yu Yan asked again.

Li Tong laughed. “They’ll start purring and refuse to get down. They just want to play cute for anyone they meet.”

As she spoke, Li Tong opened her photo album and let Yu Yan scroll through dozens of pictures. The more Yu Yan looked, the more she liked them. Her heart fluttered, and her envy grew. She looked up at her cousin and asked, “I really want to see them. Can I?”

Naturally, Li Tong wouldn’t refuse her.

And so, Yu Yan went to Li Tong’s apartment and met her two little cats. One was a Golden Chinchilla, and the other was a long-haired orange cat. Both were little girls whose tails shot straight up into the air the moment they saw people. Yu Yan absolutely adored them, sitting on the rug and petting first one, then the other.

Li Tong put on a movie and brought her snacks and drinks. She sat beside her, keeping her company while she played, chatting and catching up, sharing funny stories about the cats. The movie simply played as background noise.

Yu Yan thought this was practically the best cat cafe in the world. Not only was it free, but it was also a luxurious large flat3. Two clingy kittens stuck to her, unwilling to stray for even a moment, and a super gentle, beautiful cat owner kept her company right alongside them—someone who seemed to like her even more than the cats did.

Yu Yan was so happy she couldn’t speak.

After playing all afternoon, both the cats and the humans were exhausted. Li Tong suggested she stay for dinner, saying she had ingredients at home and would cook.

With her cousin personally making dinner, Yu Yan naturally intended to go help her out. However, she was just too tired. The moment she relaxed, she fell asleep on the sofa alongside the two cats. When she woke up, the room was already filled with the aroma of food. A thick blanket was draped over her, and her cousin was plating the dishes at the dining table.

Feeling a bit embarrassed, Yu Yan ran over barefoot to apologize to her cousin. Her cousin just patted her head and said it was fine. Yu Yan secretly rejoiced; of course she knew her cousin wouldn’t blame her. She was just acting spoiled.

Her cousin’s cooking was delicious, and she did it justice by polishing off two bowls of rice.

    “Yanyan.”

Before leaving that night, Li Tong suddenly called out to stop her.

“What’s wrong?” Yu Yan looked back, her hand on the doorknob. Li Tong was standing just half a meter behind her.

    “Do you like them?”

Li Tong’s two kittens were squatting behind her, staring unblinkingly as they saw her off. Faced with this sight, Yu Yan’s heart melted into a puddle. She said softly, “Of course I do.”

“You can come over whenever you want in the future.” Li Tong looked at her tenderly. “I hope we can still be like we were before—hanging out often, eating together. If you ever need anything, you can come to me. I’ll always be here.”

Yu Yan paused for a moment before flashing a bright smile. “Okay~”

She turned around, walked up to her, and reached out to hug her. Resting her head on Li Tong’s shoulder, she whispered against her neck, “I like Cousin the most.”

“Yu Yan, your packages,” Lu Yu said when she came home, finding a few boxes piled up at the door. Hearing the call, Yu Yan darted out of her room in her pajamas and carried the packages back inside to open them.

“Why did you buy cat treats? And cat toys?” Lu Yu asked in shock. “Are you getting a cat?”

“No, I bought these for Cousin Li’s cats,” Yu Yan said. “When I go to my cousin’s place from now on, I have to bring gifts for her kitties.”

    “Li Tong got cats too?”

“Yeah, they’re cute to death and super clingy.” Remembering something, Yu Yan shimmied over to sit beside Lu Yu and excitedly said, “Don’t you like cats? When are you going to get one? I’ll be its godmother, and I’ll scoop the litter box and feed it for you. I’ll even sleep with it and play with it in your place, okay?” She hugged Lu Yu’s arm, shaking it and acting coquettish. “I’m begging you, Lu Yu-jiejie. Kitties are really, really cute. Just get one! A life without a cat is incomplete. You should get a kitty too.”

She really was full of sudden whims. Lu Yu rejected her. “No. I like dogs.”

The silly, goofy image of a Samoyed popped into her head. Yu Yan remained enthusiastic. “Doggies are fine too! Doggies are so cute.”

“I don’t have time to walk it,” Lu Yu said.

Yu Yan immediately volunteered. “I can walk it!”

“Can you promise to walk it every single morning and night, and pick up its poop?” Lu Yu countered.

“You have to walk it in the winter too. And if it has diarrhea, you still have to pick it up,” she added.

    “…” Yu Yan fell silent.

How could Lu Yu say such things just to talk her out of it? Fine, she gave up. “Hmph. Then whenever I miss cats in the future, I’ll just go to my cousin’s house.”

Their relationship had gotten that good again, huh? Lu Yu fell silent for a moment before glancing at her. “Does Li Tong… still like you?”

“Yeah… she likes me.” Yu Yan answered completely openly. She wasn’t dense, and besides, it was really obvious when someone liked you. You could tell from a single look or action. Today at her cousin’s house, her cousin had kept trying to get close to her and pampered her in every way. When she was leaving, the way her cousin looked at her was truly full of affection, so deeply devoted.

“Have you ever thought about being with her?” Lu Yu asked.

“I have, but I also haven’t,” Yu Yan said.

“What does ‘I have, but I also haven’t’ mean? Have you or not?”

Speaking of the past, Yu Yan sighed again. “When I liked her the absolute most back then, I really did think about being with her. Later, that phase of liking her the absolute most passed. Even though I still like her a lot, I don’t want to be with her anymore. I feel like there are so many things to worry about when dating, and you don’t have any freedom at all.”

Even though her cousin was a perfect woman, there were so many perfect women in the world, blooming in a hundred different perfect ways. Yu Yan simply couldn’t bring herself to be stubbornly loyal and only like her. She knew herself very well. She couldn’t withstand the slightest seduction from women, and she was very prone to cheating. Cheating sounded so terrible when said out loud.

This was why she had never been in a serious relationship her entire life (apart from Fu Yunqing). She was far too fickle—liking one person today and another tomorrow. Even though she liked her cousin a lot, she would get bored only hanging out with her. Why did they need to be together? Even if they weren’t together, her cousin’s feelings for her wouldn’t change. She would still treat her very well, wouldn’t she?

Fortunately, Lu Yu wasn’t an outsider. She was a childhood friend who had helplessly watched her grow up as this kind of player all along. She wouldn’t condemn her morally; she would only worry about the potential accidents that might occur.

“Have you considered what you’ll do if you keep flirting with her like this and she confesses her feelings to you one day?”

Yu Yan pondered. “It depends on the situation. If I really can’t turn her down…”

If she really couldn’t turn her down, dating several at the same time wasn’t entirely out of the question, was it? Her cousin would definitely indulge her, wouldn’t she? As long as she acted cute and spoiled, her cousin wouldn’t bear to lose her and would helplessly agree. Then, if she dated a few more beautiful women who owned cats, she could lean in the arms of multiple beauties and play with multiple cats all at once.

“You really are…” Lu Yu said.

Yu Yan chuckled. “Alright, I’m just talking nonsense. I’m not that bad. Who knows what will happen in the future? Let’s not worry about it right now.”

Today, her cousin had taken quite a few photos of her playing with the cats, and very thoughtfully retouched them before sending them over. Yu Yan scrolled through them, picked out a few, and posted them on Douyin: 【Cousin’s cats are so cute~】

After posting her content, Yu Yan suddenly remembered that Miss You Ruguo, who had once thrown large sums of money at her, hadn’t sent her a gift in a long time.

Was she too busy to watch the livestream? Or was she tired of looking at her and didn’t like her anymore?

It didn’t matter. Yu Yan didn’t mind. There were so many people coming and going anyway. There would be no shortage of people who loved her, nor any shortage of gifts. If she didn’t want to be the highest-ranking gift sender4, there would always be someone else in that Top 1 spot.
