    Puppy Den

    So loving, so responsible

Eyes opening after a full sleep, Yu Yan instinctively reached for the space beside her. It was empty, but the sheets still held a trace of warmth — the person next to her couldn’t have been gone long.

Yu Yan rolled over and stretched languidly, limbs extending, but her arms lifted only briefly before sinking lazily back into the mattress. Eyes still hazy with sleep, she grabbed Fu Yunqing’s pillow and buried her face in it.

    Ah…

She was really going to die of bliss.

She had known Fu Yunqing had talent. She just hadn’t expected her to have that much talent.

Was it really not innate? Had she really learned it all on the fly? Was she really not secretly dark-hearted beneath that gentle exterior? How could she be so skilled with words, so skilled with her hands — so gentle yet so commanding, so charged with tension?

She really understood exactly which buttons to press, and her hands were truly strong.

When that slap came down, Yu Yan was shocked, wanted to cry, wanted to scream — her very soul was trembling.

Even though she hadn’t seemed to be trying, Yu Yan felt every word she said, every syllable, was dirty talk. That originally so gentle and loving woman could become so commanding — she wouldn’t stop even when Yu Yan said no, and each of the next few slaps landed more precisely than the last. Yu Yan never knew she could gush like that, so worked up she nearly fainted in her arms.

Fu-jiejie was the master of masters, her destined master.

Yu Yan genuinely felt that keeping her tendencies hidden from her had cost her a billion in lost happiness. She was truly sinful — how had she managed to think about nothing but leaving her back then?

It was utterly regrettable… but at the same time, the happy life ahead was so exciting to anticipate. Right now, Yu Yan’s mind couldn’t hold anything except being Fu Yunqing’s good little puppy for the rest of her life.

    She missed her so much.

    Where had she gone?

How could Master leave her all alone?

Yu Yan wanted to see her right this second, wanted to be petted, wanted to be held — but she was lazy by nature, so she decided to lounge in bed a little longer. She reached for the phone on the nightstand and opened her contacts.

【Mommy】 was the note she’d saved for Fu Yunqing’s number. Yu Yan stared at it for a moment, then curved her lips and changed it to 【Mommy Master】.

Then she opened WeChat and added “Master” to the end of the long 【Jiejie Mommy Darling】 note.

“Jiejie Mommy Darling Master” — what a title. One glance and you could tell it was brimming with love.

But Yu Yan wasn’t satisfied yet. She added a beating heart emoji before and after “Master.”

    Perfect.

Yu Yan immediately video-called 【Jiejie Mommy Darling ❤Master❤】.

Yu Yan shifted position, lying on her side on the bed, showing half her face in the phone screen — well-behaved yet languid in the morning light — and waited quietly for her to pick up.

    Was Master busy?

    What was Master doing?

How many seconds would it take for her to answer?

The wait lasted just long enough for her to briefly ponder these three questions before Master’s face appeared on screen.

Yu Yan’s lowered lashes lifted, her eyes curving into a gentle arc, the plump curves beneath them making her look warm and eager as she stared straight into Master’s eyes.

“Master…” she called softly, voice just opened for the day, thick with coquettishness.

She knew her voice sounded good at this hour, so she deliberately made it even softer and sweeter.

“Hmm?” In the video, the bookshelf behind Fu Yunqing made it clear she was sitting at the desk in the study.

    Working?

How could she rush off to work so eagerly?

What was more important — work, or her?

Yu Yan snorted softly inwardly, but on the surface played the good, alluring puppy. “I miss you…”

“Miss me?” Fu Yunqing feigned confusion. “Didn’t you just wake up?”

She’d just woken up, and Fu Yunqing had only left her side a dozen minutes ago — how could she make it sound as if they’d been apart for ages?

“Mm~ I just miss you. Waking up and not finding Master there… of course I’d miss you…” Her voice rose at the end, sweet and whiny.

What kind of spoiled puppy was this? Every sentence was a whine. But the moment she finished speaking, the woman on the other end of the call stood up, and the puppy’s mouth, buried in the pillow, curved into a smile.

She waited quietly, watching the woman on screen walk out of the study, cross the hallway, and push open the bedroom door. She heard the real sound of the door opening, clearer than the video audio. She lifted her gaze, tossed the phone aside, propped herself up, and knelt on the bed, eyes bright and burning, waiting for the woman to come touch her.

The closer Fu Yunqing came, the brighter her eyes grew — clear, vivid, shimmering with light.

The very picture of a puppy whose head held nothing but thoughts of her master.

Even more loyal, even more in love with Master than before yesterday’s Training1.

Fu Yunqing gazed at her and reached out to stroke the top of her head. The puppy nuzzled into her hand voluntarily, rubbing against her while keeping her eyes locked on her, as if hoping for something more intimate.

They held each other’s gaze for several seconds, the air thick with ambiguity. When Master didn’t take things further, the puppy couldn’t bear the neglect and threw herself into her arms.

Fu Yunqing looked down and saw a messy head of hair buried against her chest.

    Her puppy.

A puppy who needed to be raised well, treated well.

Fu Yunqing was a master who loved her puppy very much, took her responsibilities very seriously, and had exceptional follow-through.

She had thrown out the entire cabinet of Yu Yan’s old things and personally selected many top-quality props and toys that suited the puppy’s preferences and wouldn’t actually harm her body.

She had also personally set up a puppy den for Yu Yan —

Treats, toys, props that had been arriving in batches — she organized all the puppy’s things neatly in the display cabinet. Beside the cabinet she placed a soft cushion over a cat-patterned rug, along with a blanket carrying Master’s scent. All those plush toys that used to take up space on Yu Yan’s bed had been relocated to this corner. She’d even bought a whole series of bone-shaped and ball-shaped stress-relief toys for quitting smoking and arranged them there — the whole setup looked more like a dog’s den than the cat bed they’d prepared for Honey when she first came home.

Aside from a twinge of embarrassment, Yu Yan was overjoyed. She thought Fu Yunqing took her role as Master so seriously — not the least bit perfunctory.

Not only serious, but so loving, so responsible.

This became their favorite place for games — learning commands, head pats, holding Master’s hand, obedience training.

Yu Yan also loved spending time here at other hours. She would often lie here playing on her phone, and when the smoking urge hit, she’d eat the quit-smoking snacks Fu Yunqing had bought her, squeeze the stress-relief toys, and even fall asleep here — being woken up and carried back to bed was a regular occurrence.

The holiday was leisurely, and life was so full, so happy.

So much so that she’d forgotten she’d drunkenly and righteously promised Huo Xixi at her birthday dinner to help find out whether Lu Yu had someone she liked. She only remembered when Huo Xixi nudged her.

Huo Xixi sent a message saying she probably really had fallen in love with Lu Yu at first sight. Seven days in a week, and she’d dreamed of Lu Yu three or four times. Every time she woke up, she was left wanting more. She really, really wanted to get to know her deeply, to have more contact with her.

    Huo Xixi: 【Please, please jpg.】

Really? Yu Yan was quite surprised. Was she really not exaggerating? Love at first sight? Lu Yu wasn’t exactly the “fiery red-lipstick” type Huo Xixi had always dreamed about.

Sure enough, when someone’s heart moved, all those random conditions and requirements just vanished.

Still, this kind of thing was hard to bring up. Yu Yan knew Lu Yu — she was terrified of people trying to set her up on blind dates, and would be extremely resistant if she found out. So when asking, she’d have to hide her intentions and not be too abrupt.

How should she ask? With the New Year approaching, Yu Yan naturally had to check in on how her good friend planned to spend it.

Lu Yu replied: 【Haven’t thought about it yet】

Yu Yan knew she’d say that.

When there was no optimal answer, she’d just let things take their course. That was probably Lu Yu’s life philosophy.

Yu Yan genuinely wanted to ask: 【Now that you’re already back in Yuncheng, aren’t you going to consider going home for a visit?】

The past few years in the northwest were one thing, but now her family was right here. No need to worry about flights, train tickets, or long distances — it was just a matter of making the decision.

Lu Yu’s mother had been overly controlling and domineering back then, but that incident… it had been six or seven years already, hadn’t it? It wasn’t some blood feud that couldn’t be forgiven. Family was family, after all. She was still the mother who had raised her.

Lu Yu understood this logic too, of course, so she half-jokingly replied: 【Then let me think about it now】

Yu Yan’s lips curved into a smile. In truth, the fact that Lu Yu had brought herself back to Yuncheng was partly for this reason, too. Someone that opinionated must have already had a plan in mind.

So, Yu Yan went on the offensive: 【So, are you still thinking about your gentle, interesting, cheerful, and bright math teacher?】

    Lu Yu: 【Occasionally I dream about her】

    Yu Yan: 【Still in love?】

Lu Yu: 【It’s been so many years. Honestly, I can’t even tell myself if I still like her. That kind of thing, you can only know when you meet face to face】

    Very clear-headed. She was right.

Yu Yan: 【What if someone liked you and wanted to start something new with you?】

Lu Yu: 【I hope no one falls for me】

Lu Yu: 【At least, not before I see her again】

    “…”

    Yu Yan understood.

Maybe she still loved her. Maybe it was an obsession. Maybe she’d already moved on. All of it could only be known the moment they met face to face. In this unknown interim, she wouldn’t allow herself to enter another relationship, and she couldn’t truly throw herself into one either — her heart would always be holding on to that person.

All right. No need to say more.

Falling for someone whose heart held an unattainable love — how powerless that made you. What rotten luck. After all these years without a girlfriend, Huo Xixi had fallen in love at first sight with someone like that.

    Was there really no chance?

Looking at the adorable cat-themed “please” sticker Huo Xixi had sent, Yu Yan really couldn’t bear to be too cruel to her.

So annoying. She was doomed. She realized she was craving a cigarette again.

She put down the phone, propped herself up, and pulled open the cabinet drawer to get the mints inside. She squeezed the bone-shaped toy she’d tossed onto the blanket.

Maybe it was from overthinking, or maybe the withdrawal had peaked, but she didn’t find them helpful.

A little restless, she still wanted to smoke.

She quickly got up to rummage through other flavors. Digging through the drawer, she came across the pacifier Fu Yunqing had bought from the baby store at the mall last time.

    “…”

Did this thing really help with quitting smoking? Yu Yan wondered skeptically once more.

It seemed so absurd that she specifically went online to search. Turns out the doctor hadn’t been lying — for someone with an oral fixation personality2, using a pacifier could effectively reduce the urge to smoke. Based on general user feedback, it seemed to work even better than gum.

    An oral fixation personality…

    Was she one?

She did love kissing Fu Yunqing, sometimes couldn’t help wanting to bite her, and was obsessed with her chest.

How did an oral fixation personality develop? So being neglected and unfed during the oral stage could easily lead to one. She really was an abandoned child — it seemed she’d been severely neglected before her grandmother found her and brought her home.

Even though she’d long since accepted it, and considered herself lucky to have been found by her grandmother, whenever she thought about these things, a sour ache would well up in Yu Yan’s heart.

She wasn’t Yu Lan’s biological daughter. She’d been picked up… Ah, Yu Yan, oh Yu Yan, how could you be so pitiful?

Fu Yunqing had gone out today. When would she be back? She wanted so badly to be held.

Her heart was a jumble of mixed feelings. As if possessed, she picked up the pacifier, took off the cover, and crunched the candy in her mouth.

The pacifier had already been sterilized by Fu Yunqing. She opened her mouth, popped it in, and sucked—

Almost the very next second, her face flushed an unnatural red. She couldn’t help sucking it two more times.

    “…”

Fine, fine, they hadn’t lied to her. She really didn’t want to smoke as much anymore — but she didn’t want this, either. What she wanted was Fu Yunqing’s…

She was about to be consumed by lust.

She pulled out the pacifier and tossed it on the cabinet, grabbed her phone, and paced anxiously around the room, about to call Fu Yunqing.
