    Pampering the Child

    Straddling her lap.

After the heavy rain, the sky was completely cloudless. Bright sunlight filtered through the half-drawn white sheer curtains, casting a silent, golden warmth over the white walls and the soft, comfortable bed.

The warmth of the room was thick with sleep. Yu Yan woke reluctantly from her dreams, opening her eyes to a light so bright it stung. She instinctively buried her face in her pillow. As her mind cleared and she felt the warm, steady breathing of another person next to her, she opened her eyes again, only to realize that she hadn’t buried her face in a pillow at all—but in the soft curve of Fu Yunqing’s arm.

Yu Yan propped herself up to look at her. Fu Yunqing was lying on her side, still fast asleep. The duvet barely reached her waist, and the collar of her robe hung loose and open, leaving her fair collarbones completely exposed. A little lower, the loose fabric revealed a deep shadow and the soft curve of her breasts.

Yu Yan stared blankly, her mind going completely empty as if she had been frozen in place. It took her a long moment to avert her gaze as a sudden, feverish heat spread from her chest to her face. Just then, her eyes met those of the cat, who had only just woken up on the cat tree next to the bed.

The cat looked bleary-eyed, completely unable to comprehend why Yu Yan was in such a panic so early in the morning. She yawned, leaped lightly onto the light-brown wooden floor, and made ready to climb onto the bed. Yu Yan hastily turned back, her face flushing as she pinched the sleeping woman’s collar to gently pull it shut.

The sleeping Fu-jiejie lay there in serene silence. Her features were soft, her lips naturally closed, and her breathing steady. The gentle pulse in her neck rose and fell, radiating a quiet, peaceful comfort. She was so exquisite that Yu Yan could not tear her eyes away.

Yu Yan was staring at her face in a daze when, suddenly, the woman’s long, feathery eyelashes fluttered, and her eyes opened.

Their eyes met, and Yu Yan’s breath hitched. She had no idea why she was feeling so tense and guilty. She didn’t even notice when the cat came over to rub against her. Fu Yunqing rolled over, resting her wrist over her eyes. Yu Yan heard her let out a lazy sigh. A moment later, she moved her wrist aside. Her eyes, filled with the cozy satisfaction of a good night’s sleep and a misty drowsiness Yu Yan had never seen before, blinked open as she murmured, “What time is it?”

What time was it? Yu Yan dithered for a second before turning to look at the clock, reporting, “It’s half past eight.”

“Why are you up so early today? Did you get enough sleep?”

    “Mm…”

Fu Yunqing reached out. Yu Yan thought she was going to touch her, but to her surprise, she reached for the little cat, who had abandoned her unsuccessful attempts to get Yu Yan’s attention and padded over to her instead.

Her gaze was lowered as she smiled faintly at Honey.

    Yu Yan: “…”

She really couldn’t stand cats. Just one touch from the woman and Honey rolled over to show her belly, acting spoiled. She was so unreserved!

But the cat’s lack of shame didn’t stop there. Honey rolled around once, decided it wasn’t enough, and got back up to squeeze her way into Fu Yunqing’s arms. She clawed gently at Fu Yunqing’s chest, purring softly.

Fu Yunqing didn’t seem to mind at all. Instead of pushing her away, she began to stroke her fur.

Yu Yan felt inexplicably annoyed, and even a little jealous.

The kid was already so big—she was a fully grown cat now—yet she was still being coddled like this. Wasn’t that a bit absurd?

Granted, Yu Yan had slept right there last night too, and she had spent the entire night with her face buried in that exact spot. But humans and cats were different after all. Just like how humans got to eat fine delicacies while cats had to stick to kibble.

So, did Fu Yunqing like the cat more, or did she like her more?

    “…”

Fu Yunqing sat up, adjusting her robe, and asked, “Are you getting up? Or do you want to sleep a little longer?”

    Yu Yan said, “No.”

Not knowing where her sudden temper was coming from, Fu Yunqing coaxed, “Alright, then sleep a bit longer. Is half an hour enough? I’ll go downstairs and tell Auntie Zhang to make breakfast in half an hour.”

She made a move to get out of bed, but Yu Yan’s brows knit in displeasure, and she threw her arms around her.

She practically flung herself into her arms. Fu Yunqing was pressed back against the headboard, and Yu Yan lay draped over her, her face buried in her chest. Yu Yan’s heart hammered wildly at her own audacity, a wave of heat rising to her face.

But Fu Yunqing wrapped her arms around her quite naturally, looking down to ask, “What’s wrong?”

Yu Yan didn’t answer. She had already found the answer she wanted. Fu Yunqing truly was a woman who doted on her children. Whether it was her or Honey, she was always so gentle.

Fu Yunqing had even read her a bedtime story last night.

    Ah… so embarrassing.

Feeling incredibly floaty, Yu Yan asked softly, “Aren’t you going to stay with me?”

Hmm? Stay and sleep with her? But it wasn’t storming anymore. Fu Yunqing had already completed her task. They had agreed she would give her space, so she really ought to leave now.

Yanyan was still the same as before, changing her mind from one second to the next.

Fu Yunqing smiled. “Do you want me to stay with you?”

At this point, Yu Yan couldn’t care less about freedom or any other nonsense. “Yes~”

    Fu Yunqing chuckled. “Alright, then.”

Wu, wu, wu…” Yu Yan pouted, burying her face in the crook of her neck.

    “What is it?”

    “Jiejie…”

    “Mm?”

    “Jiejie…”

    “Say something.”

Fu Yunqing was exceptionally patient with her. Anyone else would have lost their temper long ago—if something was wrong, why wouldn’t she just say it?

It took a good while before Yu Yan propped herself up by Fu Yunqing’s shoulders and sat straddling her lap, saying, “From now on, Honey should go sleep with you instead.”

Fu Yunqing rubbed her waist gently, waiting for her to continue.

She knew that whenever Yu Yan suddenly made up her mind about something, a long list of cute and amusing reasons would inevitably follow.

Sure enough, Yu Yan said with a straight face, “I think this is very unfair. Honey stays with me every night, so she never gets to see you. She must miss you terribly.”

    Is that so?

Fu Yunqing comforted her softly, “It’s fine. She only misses me at night. She spent the entire past year by my side anyway, so it’s only right that she makes it up to you now. Besides, she really wants to be with you too.”

    Was she really?

Was that what Fu Yunqing thought? But… Yu Yan still felt a pang of sorrow. She knit her brows. “But she couldn’t bear to let you go last night.”

“She kept circling your legs, refusing to let you leave.”

“She’s just a little kitten. I don’t want to force her.”

“Little cats just miss their mom easily.”

    “…”

Fu Yunqing pressed her lips together. Yu Yan noticed that the gentle, serene smile in her eyes had faded slightly.

Fu Yunqing’s gaze remained gentle, but it had grown incredibly deep. The cozy atmosphere shifted subtly because of Yu Yan’s words. Yu Yan instinctively held her breath. Facing each other so closely, she couldn’t escape Fu Yunqing’s direct gaze.

Yu Yan couldn’t help but grow nervous. What was wrong with Fu-jiejie?

Only now did Yu Yan belatedly realize how ambiguous and intimate their current posture was.

How could she have just sat directly on her lap?

“Could you call me that again?”

    “What?”

    Call her what again?

“Honey misses her mama. What about you?”

Yu Yan understood. She hadn’t expected her to be so direct in her request. Gripping Fu Yunqing’s shoulders tightly, her heart pounding, she blinked and whispered, “Mama…”

As soon as the words left her mouth, Yu Yan cast her eyes downward. Her gaze landed on Fu Yunqing’s loose collar. Her skin was incredibly fair, almost blending into the winter snow. Dressed in such disarray, the white fabric lent her a strangely sacred aura. Yu Yan stared mindlessly, unable to prevent her thoughts from drifting toward shameful associations. Moving lower, her eyes trailed to Fu Yunqing’s waist and abdomen, where the belt of her robe was almost completely untied, splayed out on the bed in a lazy, sensual sprawl. And lower still, her hipbones, pinned beneath Yu Yan’s own thighs.

The soft sunlight drifted slowly through the room. Whenever Yu Yan grew nervous, her body became exceptionally sensitive. Fu Yunqing’s hand, which had originally rested on her waist, had slid up to her nape at some point. Her palm traced down Yu Yan’s spine, repeating the motion over and over until that patch of skin felt hot and tingling.

Yu Yan’s breathing became completely ragged, matching the rhythm of Fu Yunqing’s caresses—sometimes feather-light, sometimes firm and pressing.

She peeked up at Fu Yunqing, only to find her staring intently at her lips.

At the same time, Fu Yunqing’s palm slid back down to her waist, paused, then rose again to rest on the back of her neck. Yu Yan felt a gentle downward pressure on her nape. Fu Yunqing parted her lips, raising her chin slightly. Yu Yan held her breath, her eyes widening slightly. But the pressing force came to a sudden halt. Fu Yunqing simply drew a deep breath, let out a soft sigh, and gently brushed her temple. “Good girl.”

Fu Yunqing told her, “Honey missed her jiejie very much too. Right after you left, she kept meowing, searching the entire apartment for you. She was so anxious when she couldn’t find you that she refused to eat her wet food. It took me several days of coaxing to calm her down.”

“So it’s fine. If we take her back to my place and she doesn’t see you, she’ll only throw a tantrum.”

“…Mm.” Yu Yan murmured. She quickly scrambled off her.

Even though she was no longer tired, she still lay back down, clutching the duvet to cover her face and lying on her side to pretend to sleep.

Fu Yunqing didn’t leave. True to her promise, she stayed by her side. Only when she thought Yu Yan had fallen back asleep did she get up and head to the balcony to return a missed call that had already come in three times.

Honey also jumped down from the bed.

Honey’s stomach was completely empty. She kept circling and rubbing against Fu Yunqing’s legs to beg for food. Fearing she would wake her jiejie, Fu Yunqing picked her up, slipped out of the room, and closed the door behind her as she went downstairs.

Once she was sure Fu Yunqing was gone, Yu Yan opened her eyes.

She sat up, snatched the phone from the bedside table, and immediately ducked back under the covers as if terrified Fu Yunqing might suddenly return.

Hidden beneath the duvet, she stealthily went to search through the Weibo account of yyhfyqyyzyq1.

She quickly found the two specific posts that had left a deep impression on her long ago.

——December 21, 2022: 【Had a video call with her. Across the screen, I called her “Mama” again in a pitiful voice. She froze for a second, then said “Good girl.” So flirtatious, so hot, I can’t take it… but she really is Mama. I wanted to tease her back, so I said, I love Mama so much】

——December 22, 2022: 【Woke up and saw her sitting by the bed calling me baby. Thought I was dreaming, but she kissed me for a long, long time】

Calling her “Mama” across a screen, and then getting kissed for a long, long time before even waking up the next morning…

Just now, Fu Yunqing had held the back of her neck and stared at her lips. She must have… she must have wanted to kiss her!

In a sudden flash of realization, Yu Yan vividly recalled her feverish, restless dream from last night.

She had dreamed of someone taking her lips into their mouth, sucking and kissing them endlessly, even sliding inside to tangle with her tongue. It had driven her wild, leaving her gasping for breath as if she were drowning. And the moment she opened her eyes, Fu Yunqing was sitting right beside her, watching her with gentle eyes, pulling her into her arms amidst the thunder and lightning.

Oh my God… Oh my God…

Had that really been a dream? Was it truly just a dream? But the sensation on her lips and the response of her body had felt so incredibly real…

Yu Yan couldn’t help but suspect: could Fu Yunqing have stolen a kiss from her while she was asleep?

Fu Yunqing had secretly kissed her…

    Mother Heavens2!

Yu Yan’s brain completely crashed3. Her head felt burning hot, her thoughts in absolute disarray. She tossed and turned on the bed, utterly conflicted, reducing the sheets to a tangled mess.

After loving women for so many years, this was the very first time she felt like gulping down a dose of bitter Chinese medicine to calm down.
