    Hot Violence

Deeply Wronged, on the Verge of Tears

After going through this ordeal, and after careful consideration, Yu Yan decided to temporarily shelve her plans of running away.

Right now, Fu-jiejie was highly sensitive and couldn’t handle any shock. Yu Yan wasn’t soft in any other way, but her heart was terribly soft. The moment she saw Fu-jiejie sad, her heart would ache with intense guilt; she’d cast everything else aside, wanting only to yield to her.

And so, she’d simply agreed to all of her demands.

And she had even tasted that place of hers… Just thinking about it made Yu Yan blush. Since she hadn’t been able to resist doing that kind of thing, she absolutely couldn’t go back on her word now. If she ran away again, she’d be an absolute, ultimate heartbreaker—the kind who ate and ran, deserving to be struck down by lightning.

But what was she supposed to do if she still didn’t want to spend her entire life tied to just one person?

I have to find a way to have the best of both worlds, she thought. Something that wouldn’t make Fu-jiejie sad, but would still allow her to regain her freedom.

It seemed extremely difficult to come up with such a solution right now, but it didn’t matter. If it was too hard to think about, she could just put it off for a few days.

Just like how she used to leave her homework until the very last day of the holidays before picking up her pen, Yu Yan comfortably lay flat1. She threw all those vexing, chaotic thoughts to the back of her mind, and she even slept much more soundly at night.

Even her daily, irresistible urges to seek out Fu Yunqing for kisses and hugs became completely guilt-free.

She even continued to practice everything she’d promised that day: reporting her whereabouts whenever she went out, letting Dan Lin accompany her, replying to every message instantly, and returning home early every single night.

She obediently followed every single rule of their agreement, and then, with a blushing face, she’d show off to Fu Yunqing to claim credit, telling her how good and obedient she had been. She’d ask for hugs, and ask to be kissed there again.

Fu-jiejie would always give her the reward she deserved, never delaying it, and every single time, it left her wanting more, giving her all the more motivation.

Though she occasionally remembered she still had a livestreaming account, and occasionally wanted to log on to co-stream2 and battle with beautiful female streamers, the moment she remembered Fu Yunqing knew about her account and had watched her streams in the past, she immediately snuffed out the thought.

She knew herself too well—whenever she connected with female streamers, she simply couldn’t control herself. She’d end up completely infatuated3, wanting to act like a puppy and cry out, “Jiejie, jiejie!” If Fu Yunqing saw that, she’d definitely be unhappy.

Sigh, if only Fu Yunqing didn’t know about her account. That way, she could still stream in secret.

She also occasionally thought of those wealthy sisters4 who used to watch her streams and shower her with gifts. Wondering if they missed her, she couldn’t resist opening Douyin to check her private messages. Once again, she felt a wave of guilt and tender-hearted reluctance over letting down those women. She could only scrape together some excuses to brush them off before turning around to seek comfort from Fu-jiejie.

She was utterly too content to think of anything else5.

But staying so deeply indulged wasn’t a long-term solution. One evening, while scrolling through Weibo, the headline of a post submitted to a lesbian6 blogger caught her attention: “How to peacefully leave your partner without hurting them?”

Yu Yan tapped on it immediately. The poster’s situation was roughly the same as hers. Scrolling down to read the comments, she was drawn to a highly unconventional reply: 【Sister, how can you expect to have your cake and eat it too? I don’t even want to scold you. If all else fails, just use hot violence7 on her.】

    Hot violence…

    Hot violence?!

Yu Yan had a sudden, brilliant epiphany.

Of course she knew what hot violence meant. Naturally, it meant being violently warm: clinging to the other person twenty-four hours a day, sticking so close that the moment they appeared, she’d attach herself like a conjoined twin. She’d be extremely possessive and passionate toward her. Ideally, she’d send sixty text messages a minute, complaining about absolutely everything—from something as major as getting hit by a car, to something as minor as eating one less grain of rice at a restaurant. On top of that, she’d have to throw massive tantrums8 and make completely unreasonable scenes. Once the other person got sick and tired of her, they’d naturally grow weary of the relationship.

    Good heavens.

    This was too smart.

How had she not thought of this before?

    This was completely feasible!

After all, acting wild and crazy was her absolute specialty. She’d definitely make it so suffocatingly hot that the woman wouldn’t be able to stand it.

Resolving to see this through, her blood boiled with excitement as she decided to put the plan into action immediately. Right then and there, she sent a message to Fu Yunqing, who was currently handling work in the study: 【What are you doing, jiejie?】

    Fu Yunqing: 【I’m working.】

Yu Yan: 【Can you come keep me company?】

    Fu Yunqing: 【Hm? What’s wrong?】

Yu Yan: 【I just want you to keep me company.】

    Yu Yan: 【Keep me company.jpg.】

    Yu Yan: 【Crying.jpg.】

    Yu Yan: 【Miss you.jpg.】

    Yu Yan: 【Sobbing.jpg.】

After she spammed the chat with several stickers in a row, Fu Yunqing stopped replying. After a brief wait, the bedroom door was indeed pushed open.

The instant Fu Yunqing stepped inside, Yu Yan threw her arms around her, refusing to let go even when they walked. She made Fu Yunqing read her a bedtime story for half an hour, and finally insisted that Fu Yunqing hold her as she slept.

    It was absolutely perfect.

Throwing tantrums, making a scene, and spamming her chat while she was trying to work… Although Fu Yunqing humored her this time, once Yu Yan started deliberately picking her work hours to demand her company over and over again, she’d definitely lose her patience.

Of course, this alone wasn’t enough. The core of the plan was to make the other woman get sick of her as quickly as possible. Naturally, she couldn’t allow any “brief separations that sweeten a marriage” to happen. If Fu Yunqing went to work, she’d tag along; if Fu Yunqing went to teach, she’d naturally attend the class too.

She also had to prepare a thoughtful gift for her—Tangerine Pear Tea. Even the most delicious drink would eventually grow tiresome if consumed every day. It was just like people. Right now, Fu Yunqing thought Tangerine Pear Tea was delicious, but if Yu Yan made it for her every single day, she’d surely grow sick of it—and by extension, find Yu Yan herself incredibly cloying.

Excellent. Yu Yan felt she was a genius.

Auntie Zhang was busy preparing lunch for her. For once, Yu Yan wandered into the kitchen and asked Auntie Zhang if they had any tangerines and pears. Auntie Zhang said they did, asking if she wanted to eat some. Yu Yan shook her head and replied that she wanted to make some Tangerine Pear Tea for Fu-jiejie.

“Wonderful, wonderful,” Auntie Zhang said, deeply comforted. She beamed as she encouraged her. “Yunqing uses her voice a lot during lectures, and her throat always feels uncomfortable afterward. This kind of soothing drink is exactly what she needs. A while back, I saw her bring a flask of tea home after class and wondered who had given it to her. So it was you, Yanyan! No wonder she was in such a good mood that day.”

“Really?” Yu Yan felt a touch of disbelief.

Had Fu Yunqing really been in such a good mood when she received the Tangerine Pear Tea back then?

Back then, she’d still been angry with her, giving her the cold shoulder.

But Fu Yunqing had also told her in person that she was very happy she had come back to find her.

“Of course it’s true!” Terrified that Yu Yan’s amnesia would prevent her from knowing how deeply Fu Yunqing loved her, Auntie Zhang lowered her voice, speaking with gentle, earnest gravity. “Let alone making something special like this—even if you just brought her plain boiled water, she’d be happy. No matter what you do for her, she loves it.”

“You two were separated for over a year. During that time… sigh, I saw it all. She wasn’t happy at all. In the middle of the night, I’d always catch her drinking alone, drinking heavily, and smoking heavily too. Either that, or she’d stand out on the balcony in the freezing wind because she couldn’t sleep from insomnia. I tried to advise her, but she wouldn’t listen. There was nothing I could do. She missed you—it was a sickness of the heart. Except for you, no one else could help her.”

    “…Is that so?”

“Yes. So now that you’re back, I can tell she has completely changed. She’s happy again, just like before. It’s wonderful! You two must cherish each other. If there are conflicts, resolve them together. Communicate openly instead of keeping things bottled up. You have to take care of each other and stay together.”

Hearing this made Yu Yan’s heart ache with a deep, bittersweet sorrow.

If Fu Yunqing was happy no matter what she gave her, then if that were truly the case, how many times would she have to bring her Tangerine Pear Tea before she finally got sick of it?

Yu Yan felt a little discouraged. Was regaining her freedom completely out of reach? Yet, there was also a tiny, secret flutter of joy inside her, one she hadn’t even consciously realized.

After taking a brief nap after lunch, she got up and sent a message to Fu-jiejie, telling her that she wanted to lie in bed all afternoon and wait for her to come home. In reality, she had already set out to give her a surprise, carrying the Tangerine Pear Tea she had prepared to make her grow sick of it.

Lately, Dan Lin had been driving her everywhere, keeping her company like a bodyguard at all times. Yu Yan had gotten quite familiar with her; recently, she had even managed to pry into her sexual orientation, discovering that Dan Lin was also into women.

“What kind of women do you like?”

Dan Lin replied, looking extremely flustered, “I… I guess it depends on the vibe. I don’t really have an ideal type.”

“Oh~” Yu Yan nodded, looking quite profound.

She had definitely never been in a relationship before.

Fifteen minutes before Fu Yunqing’s class was scheduled to start, Dan Lin dropped her off outside the designated teaching building. When Yu Yan stepped into the classroom, there weren’t many people inside yet, and the teacher hadn’t arrived either. To avoid drawing another crowd, Yu Yan decided not to be so flashy this time. She placed her thermos directly onto the lecture podium and slipped off to find a seat at the very edge in the back.

With more than ten minutes left before class, she did what all the other students in their seats were doing—playing on her phone and replying to WeChat messages. Suddenly, someone sat down in the empty seat beside her. Yu Yan looked up in surprise; it was actually her.

“You…” Yu Yan was momentarily speechless with surprise. “Why are you sitting here?”

At this moment, Yu Yan was full of wariness—a completely different person from the sweet streamer in the livestream room who would read out her ID and welcome her so warmly. Xiao Jing felt a sudden, inexplicable sense of disappointment and intense embarrassment. Yu Yan had nothing but kindness and goodwill toward her online persona9, but toward her actual self, there was none.

“Is this seat taken?” Xiao Jing tried her best to sound relaxed and casual, but her voice remained cold and stiff. It was a stubborn habit she simply couldn’t shake.

“No, it’s free.” But Yu Yan was curious. “Why aren’t you sitting in the front?”

Xiao Jing pulled her textbook and a pen from her backpack, saying as a matter of fact, “I’ve been sitting here lately. Why should I sit in the front?”

Her underlying implication was that Yu Yan was the one who had taken her spot.

“Oh… Well, go ahead then.” Yu Yan nodded in respect and turned back to her phone, making it clear she had no intention of crossing any boundaries.

    “…” Xiao Jing frowned.

    A moment later.

    “What about you?”

The question came completely out of the blue, delivered in an awkward, highly abrupt tone. Yu Yan looked over and saw that Xiao Jing was staring down at her book, not looking at her at all, leaving it unclear who she was even speaking to.

…What did she mean by that?

My love rival is acting so strange today, Yu Yan thought.

Still not sparing her a single glance, Xiao Jing repeated her question in a cold, stiff voice. “Why aren’t you sitting in the front?”

“What do you mean? Why am I not sitting in the front?” Yu Yan was slightly bewildered.

Xiao Jing took a deep breath. “I was talking nonsense last time.”

“You can sit wherever you want! It’s none of my business!”

Yu Yan paused, studying her inquisitively.

Xiao Jing hung her head even lower.

    Last time…

“Oh.” After a long pause, Yu Yan cleared her throat, her voice dropping into a dejected murmur. “But I took it to heart. I don’t dare sit in the front anymore.”

She was deliberately playing pitiful. Xiao Jing wasn’t looking at her right then, so she couldn’t see the playful curve of Yu Yan’s eyes. By the time Xiao Jing raised her head, Yu Yan had already wiped away any trace of amusement, pursing her lips to look deeply wronged, on the verge of tears.

Yan-jie: Teasing women is seriously so much fun.
