It Was Her Who Ignored Me First

    Imprisoned by her

Vows were always useless. Yu Yan was hungover yet again.

The moment she first awoke, her mind was a blank slate. She could sense nothing but the discomfort in her body. Lying on an impossibly soft, enormous bed, her head felt like it was splitting open. She buried her face in a pillow and recovered for a long while before she finally registered the unfamiliar surroundings.

The pillow didn’t smell like her, she realized with a start.

Her heart jumped. Eyes flying open, she threw herself into a sitting position, flung back the covers, and surveyed the room.

It was a spacious and bright master bedroom, its decor simple yet grandly luxurious. An entire wall of floor-to-ceiling windows gathered the warm morning sun. To one side was a balcony that looked out onto an open lawn and garden, completely devoid of the old, lived-in feel and urban clamor she was used to.

    Where was this?

    Fu Yunqing…

Memories of last night quickly flooded back. She remembered Fu Yunqing dragging her out of the bar, remembered throwing a drunken tantrum and arguing with her, remembered Fu Yunqing flinging a bank card at her face and furiously telling her, “Isn’t it just money?” And after that? After that, Yu Yan had no impression of anything at all.

She looked down and saw she was only in her undergarments. Who had undressed her? Was it Fu Yunqing?

    Where was she?

Yu Yan stood up, but a powerful wave of dizziness forced her to brace herself against the wall to move. Suddenly, the door was pushed open.

A kind-faced, middle-aged woman walked in from outside. Dressed in a suit, her appearance was immaculate, and she wore a gentle smile as she carried a glass of honey water.

“Miss Yu, you’re awake.” The woman’s polite and warm tone was comforting. She had a certain propriety about her, as if she had been waiting just outside the door, ready to enter and attend to her the moment she heard any sign of stirring.

Yu Yan had no memory of this face. “You are…”

“I am the housekeeper of this villa. My surname is Tang,” the housekeeper said with a small smile. “Miss Yu may not remember me.”

    Butler Tang?

Yu Yan wracked her brain for a long time but came up with nothing.

    How awful.

But the Young Miss, who had always been one to get comfortable with people quickly, wasn’t fazed. She accepted the honey water from the housekeeper and took a sip. It was warm. Knowing it would help with her hangover, she gulped down half of it before asking, “Where’s Fu Yunqing?”

“Ms. Fu had other matters to attend to. Were you looking for her?”

“Of course I was looking for her. She abducts me and brings me here, then just leaves without a word? What’s the meaning of this?” Yu Yan was deeply dissatisfied.

The housekeeper offered a placating smile. “She is likely busy with work and will be back to see you soon. How could Ms. Fu ever just leave you on your own?”

Right. It was a workday. Fu Yunqing had to go to work.

Yu Yan left the room with the housekeeper following behind her. She looked around, wondering, Is this Fu Yunqing’s home? Have I lived here before? She couldn’t remember at all. The bedroom was on the second floor, and after walking down the corridor for a bit, she found the elevator to go downstairs.

Seated at the dining table, eating an exquisite breakfast prepared by a five-star chef that was impeccable in both taste and presentation, Yu Yan had returned overnight to the upper-class life she had longed for constantly. Yet she was in no mood to savor it. She ate while busily replying to Lu Yu’s WeChat messages.

Lu Yu: 【Is it almost over?】

Lu Yu: 【Roughly when will you be done?】

Lu Yu: 【Why aren’t you replying? You didn’t actually get wasted, did you?】

Lu Yu: 【You’re not really going home with An Qiu, are you?】

Lu Yu: 【You really shouldn’t. Joking about being kept by someone is one thing, but you can’t actually do it.】

Lu Yu: 【At least spend some more time with her to see what she’s like.】

Lu Yu: 【Yanyan, listen to me, come back now. If it’s really that bad, I’ll go ask my sister for money for you. She’s a rich lady, too, super wealthy. And she’s gorgeous. Do you still remember her?】

    Lu Yu: 【Image.jpg】

    Lu Yu: 【Isn’t she beautiful?】

Lu Yu: 【I’m coming to get you, don’t you go anywhere.】

Lu Yu had been worried sick.

It was hilarious. To coax her into coming home, she had actually sent a selfie of her older sister. Yu Yan clicked open the photo. Lu Yu’s sister really was stunningly beautiful. It was just a shame that Lu Yu had been too slow; before she could even arrive, Yu Yan had already been captured by Fu Yunqing.

Yu Yan considered teasing her but decided against it. After all, her friend was genuinely worried about her.

Yu Yan: 【I didn’t go home with Teacher An. Fu Yunqing took me away.】

She was about to explain further when Lu Yu replied instantly: 【I know.】

    Yu Yan: 【You know?】

Lu Yu: 【I couldn’t find you last night so I called you. Fu Yunqing answered. She said you were with her, so I stopped worrying.】

Yu Yan: 【What do you mean, you stopped worrying because I was with her?】

Lu Yu: 【Better than being with An Qiu.】

She was an ex-wife, after all, and Lu Yu knew Fu Yunqing to some extent. She had doted on and cherished Yu Yan so much in the past; surely she wouldn’t hurt her now. Compared to An Qiu, a relative stranger, it was much safer.

Yu Yan, however, started to complain: 【Oh yeah? You have no idea how fierce she was with me last night.】

She had been really fierce. Super fierce. Yu Yan had nearly been brought to tears by her. But she had no intention of telling Lu Yu about that part.

Lu Yu: 【She was jealous, of course she was going to be fierce. Did you think about why she came to get you? Serves you right for provoking her and then going off to provoke someone else. Didn’t see that coming, did you?】

Yu Yan felt wronged on this point: 【It was her who ignored me first, okay!】

Lu Yu didn’t want to bicker with her about it. 【So when are you coming back?】

    When was she coming back…?

She had to at least finish this Michelin-star breakfast.

But her appetite was poor from the hangover, and no matter how delicious the food was, Yu Yan only managed a few bites. Perhaps because this villa might very well have been her home in the past, she, who was already bold by nature, didn’t act like a stranger. Under the guise of touring the property, she began searching room by room, from top to bottom, for something. She even went out into the courtyard. When she couldn’t find it, the housekeeper inquired, and she finally said, “I’m looking for Honey.”

Honestly, the very first thought that had popped into Yu Yan’s head upon waking up and realizing she was at Fu Yunqing’s place was, Oh, I can see my little cat.

But after turning the entire house upside down, she couldn’t find a single trace of the cat. She even wondered if the kitty was just too black and was hiding under a bed where she couldn’t see.

“Honey?” The housekeeper paused for a moment before answering, “Is that the cat you and Ms. Fu raised? She doesn’t live here.”

    Doesn’t live here?

“Then where does she live? Isn’t this Fu Yunqing’s home?”

A flicker of confusion crossed the housekeeper’s face, but it was gone in an instant. She replied patiently, “Ms. Fu does not live here often.”

The cat wasn’t here, and neither was Fu Yunqing. She didn’t live here often. Wasn’t this their former home? Or had Fu Yunqing moved after the divorce?

Unable to find the person or the cat, Yu Yan thought dejectedly, Then what’s the point of staying here?

Though she still had one more question: was it the housekeeper who had undressed her last night, or was it Fu Yunqing?

Yu Yan spent the whole morning at the villa, but Fu Yunqing didn’t return. She was bored out of her mind. Opening a ride-sharing app, she prepared to call a car. As she pushed open the villa’s main door, a woman in a black suit was standing by the entrance. She looked over. “Miss Yu, where are you going?”

“You…” It was the female driver who had hauled her out of the bar last night. What was her name again? Dan something?

In any case, she was a beautiful kidnapper. Yu Yan said irritably, “I’m going home.”

She started to walk out with her head held high, but Dan Lin blocked her way. The woman smiled and said, “This is your home.”

Yu Yan was shocked. Was this imprisonment?

“What do you mean, my home? Is this house in my name?”

Dan Lin’s smile didn’t falter. “Yes. Have you forgotten?”

Yu Yan froze, taking a step back. She turned her head and scanned the villa from top to bottom once more.

“Really?” Her eyes brightened a little.

“Yes. Don’t you remember? It was Ms. Fu’s wedding gift to you. The property deed has always been in your name.”

“…” Yu Yan suddenly felt as if the world were spinning. So what had all her suffering these past two months been for? And now they were telling her she owned such a massive villa in Yuncheng?

Fine. In that case, where was the property deed? Could she list the house for sale to supplement her income? Although that wasn’t what she should be thinking about right now. What she should be thinking about was her current predicament. “I’m still leaving. What are you doing? Are you going to imprison me?”

Dan Lin maintained her friendly smile and didn’t yield an inch. “Of course not. I will drive you wherever you wish to go. I will accompany you on your outing and then bring you back.”

    “…”

Her attempt to leave had failed. Collapsing onto the living room sofa, Yu Yan was now certain: she was being imprisoned by Fu Yunqing.

So angry. She opened her phone, found the certain someone she had blocked and still hadn’t unblocked, and finally released her from the blacklist to send a message of interrogation: 【What are you trying to do?】

Yu Yan: 【Imprisonment is illegal. We live in a society ruled by law.】

She waited anxiously for a long while, but there was no reply.

No reply again. Always no reply… Yu Yan was so frustrated.

Seeing her worried and angry expression, the housekeeper, who was more than happy to help her master, walked over. Glancing at her phone, she said, “My apologies, I didn’t mean to look at your phone. It’s just… you were very drunk last night. Ms. Fu personally took care of you, staying in your room and watching over you all night without sleeping a wink. She only left at seven this morning. If you speak to her like this, she will be sad.”

The housekeeper continued, “I don’t really know what has happened between you two, but… in all the days since you left, she has probably been missing you all this time.”

    “…”

    What did that mean?

Fu Yunqing had taken care of her all night without closing her eyes. In all the days since she left, Fu Yunqing had probably been missing her.

    Really?

Yu Yan’s mood suddenly grew inexplicably heavy and dazed. Agitated, she sought a sliver of reality by going back to that Weibo account named “yyhfyqyyzyq.” Without realizing it, she scrolled through the posts again and again, her heart filling with an indescribable feeling.

It was a stifling, somewhat painful sensation. When she looked back at the two cold, accusatory messages she had just sent to Fu Yunqing, the heartache and remorse grew even stronger.

Had she really gone a little too far?

How had Fu Yunqing known last night that she was drinking with An Qiu? And why did she go and take her away? What was she trying to do? Wasn’t it Fu Yunqing who had ignored her first?

Yu Yan couldn’t figure it out, yet she vaguely knew the answer. She hadn’t had a complete blackout. She remembered how awful Fu Yunqing’s expression had been last night; she knew Fu Yunqing must have been furious. The Weibo that documented their love story said that she had once promised never to drink outside of Fu Yunqing’s sight. If Fu Yunqing still cared about her, if Fu Yunqing had truly been watching her in secret all this time, if Fu Yunqing couldn’t even accept her drinking out of sight, then it was even less conceivable that she would tolerate Yu Yan drinking with the intention of going home with someone else.

She knew how cruel the crazy things she’d said while drunk had been, deliberately contradicting her, even complaining to An Qiu.

But Yu Yan had amnesia. She had forgotten every single thing about their past, and so she was trapped in a vortex of confusion—aware of some things, yet completely clueless about everything else.

    She will be sad.

    Would she be sad?

She hadn’t slept all night. How exhausted must she be? What was she doing now?

Yu Yan curled up on the sofa, gnawing on the back of her hand as she agonized for a long time. Finally, she sent two more messages, which were both a concession and a gesture of goodwill:

    【Fine, imprison me then.】

【Are you just going to leave me here all alone and not even come back to see me?】
