    She Is Angry

    Rather Trust an Outsider

Having received Lu Yu’s affirmation, Yu Yan felt even more resolved. She was itching to give acting a try.

Since An Qiu—such an outstanding director with impeccable taste and vision—had said she was perfect for a certain role, she had clearly seen something in her. Perhaps some hidden talent was buried inside her, just waiting to be awakened.

Driven by her usual habit of acting on every passing whim, Yu Yan had originally planned to find Lu Yu to discuss the matter in detail. She was about to message Dan Lin to pick her up when the bodyguard quietly let slip that Fu Yunqing would be leaving work early to surprise her. Yu Yan immediately abandoned the idea.

Wasn’t Fu Yunqing supposed to be in a meeting? She wasn’t expected back until six or seven in the evening. Returning early to surprise her? Why hadn’t Yu Yan heard about this? She checked WeChat, but there were no new messages.

Fu Yunqing was keeping it a secret.

How could Fu Yunqing be so sweet?

In that case, Yu Yan would naturally wait for her at home.

Unable to meet up with Lu Yu and needing to act oblivious, Yu Yan found the wait incredibly leisurely. She decided to open the script Director An had sent her and read it word by word.

She spent half an hour reading the first portion of the script and discovered that Director An had indeed offered her an incredibly charming and likable role. Leaving the document with lingering excitement, she wanted nothing more than to agree on the spot. Still, she suppressed her impulse and refrained from messaging Director An immediately.

She wandered over to the French windows, pressing her hands against the glass like a little gecko. Leaning against the pane to look outside, she sighed at the bustling scenery of the city, deeply troubled over how she was going to get past Fu Yunqing.

Lu Yu had suggested she lay everything out clearly with Fu Yunqing. Indeed, there was no other way forward. She only wanted to act; she had no intention of separating from her jiejie1.

She was serious this time; she wanted to be with her jiejie for a very, very long time.

But would Fu Yunqing agree to let her go?

    Why wouldn’t she?

Perhaps Fu Yunqing would even support her.

Yu Yan suddenly wondered if she had been too pessimistic, painting Fu Yunqing in too negative a light. It wasn’t as though she was unreasonable. She was so gentle and respected her so much; how could she possibly oppose Yu Yan’s desire to pursue a career?

As long as she explained herself properly, Fu Yunqing would surely not be unreasonable.

With this bit of self-consolation, Yu Yan finally regained some confidence.

Her cloudy mood cleared to blue skies. Cheerful once more, she immediately prepared to message her darling jiejie to probe when this “surprise” would actually get home.

    Yu Yan: 【Nudge.jpg】

    She waited expectantly.

    Fu Yunqing: 【Hmm?】

Yu Yan: 【I miss my girlfriend~】

Yu Yan realized she was surprisingly unfamiliar with the term “girlfriend.”

Up until now, Fu Yunqing was the first person she’d ever called her girlfriend.

This was the first time she’d ever acknowledged a relationship.

After all, they had done everything there was to do, and she had already confessed her love. If she still refused to acknowledge it, she would simply be scum2 of biblical proportions.

Besides, even leaving aside public outrage, she couldn’t bear to make her jiejie sad.

Fine, she admitted it fully this time. She was utterly whipped. She’d fallen for Fu Yunqing, hopelessly and irrevocably.

“I want you to come back and keep me company so badly~” Yu Yan flopped onto the bed and sent her a voice message.

It was still early. She thought that maybe Fu-jiejie was still in a meeting, or perhaps driving? Yu Yan felt a playful urge to tease. Her voice was incredibly sweet, coy, and melting, guaranteed to seduce the woman.

She would certainly drive her crazy with desire, leaving her completely helpless to resist.

To her surprise, a text popped up only a few seconds later: 【Then could you come open the door for me?】

    Open the door?!

Yu Yan froze. Immediately after, Fu Yunqing sent another picture. It showed the display of an ascending elevator—already at the third floor!

Before she could type a reply, Yu Yan sprang out of bed like a flipping carp and dashed downstairs. The black cat, who had been sleeping nearby, twitched her ears at the commotion. Opening her eyes, Honey yawned, stretched, and trotted happily after her.

Yu Yan pressed her face against the peephole to peer outside. Honey squatted by her feet, thoroughly curious about what her jiejie was up to.

Yu Yan counted the seconds. One, two, three—the elevator door opened with a ding, and a tall woman wearing a khaki woolen trench coat stepped out. She held her bag in one hand and her phone in the other, having just sent the text to Yu Yan seconds ago.

Yu Yan watched her every move through the peephole. Seeing her stand before the door without opening it, patiently waiting for something, Yu Yan felt a rush of sweetness. She gently pressed down on the handle.

With a click, the door opened.

Fu Yunqing pushed the door open, her gaze immediately landing on the black cat waiting for her on the floor. Her heart softened, and she wanted to squat down and pet her. Then she wondered, when had Honey learned to open doors?

    Who was hiding?

Yu Yan held her breath, clinging to the back of the door. Fu Yunqing entered calmly and pulled the door shut, immediately spotting the other “cat” crouching there.

She was truly childish, still loving to play hide-and-seek even in her twenties.

She was exactly like the Yu Yan of back then.

Seeing that Fu Yunqing wasn’t surprised at all, Yu Yan felt a bit indignant. “How did you know I was here?”

“If you weren’t here, was Honey the one who opened the door?” Fu Yunqing asked with a smile.

Fu Yunqing let out a soft laugh. She placed her bag on the entryway cabinet and bent down to change her shoes, while Yu Yan stood waiting by her side, ready to pounce. The moment Fu Yunqing stood up straight, Yu Yan clung to her, wrapping her arms around her in a needy embrace. She didn’t feel embarrassed about her little trick being exposed, nor was she angry.

    “Hold me~” she cooed.

Fu Yunqing held her close and asked softly, “What did you do today?”

Her mind had been entirely occupied with thoughts of acting in Director An’s film, of course, but Yu Yan didn’t dare voice those thoughts. Instead, she babbled a stream of sweet nothings, claiming she had spent the entire day missing her jiejie and couldn’t do anything else.

“Is that so?” Fu Yunqing didn’t seem to fully believe her, maintaining a skeptical tone.

“Really~” Though she felt a little guilty, how could it not be true?

Fu Yunqing wasn’t allowed to doubt her.

She clung to Fu Yunqing’s shoulders, tilting her head to cuddle. Fu Yunqing still carried the biting chill of the outdoors, and her lips were cold but incredibly soft. They tasted faintly sweet from her lipstick, like jelly. Yu Yan loved to suck and lick them without knowing her limits, playing so mischievously that her nape was soon captured by Fu Yunqing’s palm. As Fu Yunqing deepened the kiss, Yu Yan lowered her eyelashes, parting her lips to let her tongue entwine with the invading wetness.

    “Mmh…”

Once a kiss deepened, it was easy for desire to spark. Yu Yan hadn’t stepped foot outside all day, so she was still wearing thin pajamas. The hem was easily coaxed upward, and Fu Yunqing slid her hand inside to caress her smooth waist. Yu Yan shuddered at the touch, her entire body suddenly becoming highly sensitive.

What did Fu Yunqing want to do? It wasn’t even dark yet… Lusting in broad daylight… She was so… bold.

Yu Yan pushed against her shoulders to back away, her face flushing as she said softly, “I… I have something I want to discuss with you.”

“Hmm?” Fu Yunqing’s voice was exceptionally sexy in her aroused state, yet she remained incredibly patient. “What is it?”

    “I…”

The entryway wasn’t a good place for serious talk. Yu Yan took her hand and led her further into the apartment, sitting her down on the sofa and keeping hold of her hand to speak in detail.

The passion in Fu Yunqing’s eyes receded, replaced by an exceptional calmness and clarity as she waited to listen.

It was actually quite difficult to say. Under her gaze, Yu Yan hesitated and weighed her words for a long moment before speaking.

“I know a director. She has a really great role she wants me to play.”

Too nervous to meet her gaze, Yu Yan kept her eyes fixed on their folded hands resting on Fu Yunqing’s lap. Her fingers nervously fidgeted against the back of Fu Yunqing’s hand. “You might still remember her. She’s the one I went out drinking with that time you brought me back. Her name is An Qiu.”

The explanation felt entirely redundant. That previous occasion had been a total battlefield3. Fu Yunqing had known exactly where she was and who she was drinking with; how could she possibly forget someone like An Qiu?

At this point, Yu Yan felt as though a heavy low-pressure system was settling over them. She rushed her words, speeding up. “The last time we went out drinking, we were just talking about the role. Nothing else, really! All those things I said to you back then were just me throwing a drunken tantrum. Um… her script is finished now, and she sent it to me a couple of days ago. I read it and thought it was actually pretty good, and quite suited to me. I was thinking… since I don’t have much to do anyway, I’d like to give it a try.”

Having finished, she quickly stole a glance upward. She was too anxious to make out the other woman’s expression clearly, but the air seemed to solidify in an instant. Beneath her palm, Fu Yunqing’s hand grew ice-cold. An ominous premonition seized her heart.

“You want to give it a try?” Fu Yunqing repeated out of the blue.

Yu Yan pursed her lips. Just as she was about to speak, Fu Yunqing suddenly stood up.

Yu Yan’s heart violently skipped a beat.

“You want to go act with her?”

Her tone was exceptionally harsh, laden with interrogation. Yu Yan looked up in a daze, meeting her deeply furrowed brow.

    She was angry…

Panic washed over Yu Yan instantly. She scrambled to explain, “I… that’s just what I was thinking. It’s a good thing, isn’t it? I—”

“You said you loved me, said you missed me, and told me you wanted me back quickly to keep you company—all just to negotiate this with me?” Fu Yunqing cut her off.

The warmth from moments ago was completely gone. Fu Yunqing felt her head throbbing. She stared at her in utter disbelief, unable to tell whether she was disappointed or devastated.

So all that sweetness had just been Yu Yan paving the way. Those words of love were merely a spoiled act to secure her goals beforehand. Was that it?

This was exactly her usual way of acting spoiled. Fu Yunqing knew this perfectly well, so why hadn’t she anticipated it? She’d clearly been on guard. Yet after Yu Yan sent those messages about missing her, she’d fallen right back into the sweetness, genuinely believing nothing was wrong. She’d thought Yanyan only wanted to find Lu Yu because she was bored at home alone, and that once she heard she was returning, her attention would naturally swing back, eagerly awaiting her.

That entire night and over these past two days, at every single moment, hadn’t Fu Yunqing been living in a state of constant, heart-stopping torment?

Yet what she’d been dreading all along had still come to pass. Yu Yan’s heart had swayed toward someone else.

She’d clearly rejected An Qiu’s offer before; why the sudden change of heart? Was it because of that long message of persuasion An Qiu had sent afterward?

So while sharing absolute intimacy with her, Yu Yan had been pondering this for so long, only to conclude that she agreed with An Qiu—that no one could be relied upon, including Fu Yunqing.

Why did it have to be like this? Why must this be the result?

She lied, she calculated, and she would rather trust an outsider than believe in Fu Yunqing.
