Can I be petted by jiejie if I turn into a kitten?

Fu Yunqing reined herself in and replied: 【We’ll talk when you get back.】

    Yu Yan: 【Okay!】

    Yu Yan: 【Cat cheering jpg.】

What difference was there between ‘we’ll talk when you get back’ and just agreeing to her request? Fu Yunqing was already prepared to deal with her later tonight.

The temperature had dropped again today. The nighttime temperature in Yuncheng was no more than eleven or twelve degrees Celsius. She didn’t know if Yu Yan had dressed warmly enough for her walk. Fu Yunqing had hoped she would take the initiative to text her, but after that cheering image, no more messages came through. Fu Yunqing waited a moment, then set down her phone and went into the bathroom to shower.

The cat naturally followed her in, tirelessly trying every possible way to sneak a peek. When she couldn’t see anything, she would just meow. She had been like this for as long as Fu Yunqing had raised her, and there was nothing to be done about it.

Fu Yunqing remembered the past. Yanyan hadn’t allowed the cat to peek at her showering, either. She would always shout, “Hooligan cat!” before carrying her away, having a great time playing with the cat on the bed. By the time Fu Yunqing finished showering and came out, Yu Yan and the cat would crowd around her. At first, Yu Yan had been too shy to look at her, yet she would still cling to her, lovey-dovey, saying she smelled so good. Later on, she became much bolder, getting handsy while whispering sweet nothings.

Fu Yunqing really liked that pre-sleep time after showering. It was the most relaxing and enjoyable part of the day. The two of them and the cat snuggled together on the bed, and anything they did felt incredibly blissful.

The room now felt far too empty and silent compared to back then. This stark contrast with her memories had accompanied her for an entire year. Fu Yunqing found it unbearable.

So, she couldn’t help but walk quickly to the nightstand, picking up her phone to see if Yu Yan had sent any messages while she was showering. The chat window remained exactly the same; there were no new messages. Her eager gaze settled into quiet disappointment. She must still be out playing, she thought.

Fu Yunqing returned to the vanity and spent ten minutes on her skincare routine. Then she walked to the bookshelf and picked out a book. It had been a long time since she had read; her heart was so unsettled that she couldn’t focus on anything. She decided to try today, only to realize that after an hour, she was still stuck on page thirteen.

Her thoughts kept drifting. She remembered that Yanyan’s twenty-fourth birthday was fast approaching.

They had separated on her twenty-third birthday. This year, she wanted to spend it with her.

It was already ten-thirty at night.

Had she still not gone home?

Suddenly, a message popped up on her phone: 【I finished showering!】

So she had skipped reporting that she was home and had gone straight to shower.

    Yu Yan: 【Is Fu-jiejie free right now?】

Yu Yan: 【Can you let me video call Honey?】

Fu Yunqing glanced at the black cat already asleep beside the bed. She patted her gently to wake her up. Honey looked bleary-eyed and confused. Fu Yunqing replied to the eager someone on the other end with an “Mhm.”

The next second, a video call request popped up.

Fu Yunqing flipped the camera and tapped accept. A cute face appeared on the screen, looking as if she was lying on her stomach in bed. Honey was grooming herself. Yu Yan’s eyes lit up the moment she saw her. “Honey~”

Hearing someone call her, Honey raised her airplane ears1 and looked around, not knowing who had invaded her territory. The person kept calling her name endlessly. Honey finally discovered that the source of the sound was the small box in Fu Yunqing’s hand. She got up and approached to sniff it. From Yu Yan’s perspective, this was practically no different from kissing her. She was so excited she was almost speechless.

    “Honey… she actually kissed me.”

“She’s so good. She looks a little silly. But so cute…”

Kittens are all a little silly, Fu Yunqing thought.

Fu Yunqing didn’t speak, just letting Yu Yan and the cat communicate. Honey sniffed for a moment and rubbed her chin against the phone. Perhaps the sound was distorted passing through the device, or perhaps Honey had genuinely forgotten her voice after being away for so long and didn’t recognize her. After listening to an endless stream of “Honey, Honey, do you still remember me?”, the cat lost interest and capriciously hopped off the bed.

Cats truly possess a strong sense of self. They are entirely unwilling to go out of their way to please humans; everything revolves around their own feelings.

Yu Yan watched her retreating figure with reluctance. The call had already gone on for four minutes, far exceeding the time limit she had initially proposed. She didn’t dare to force Fu-jiejie to go over and carry Honey back. Lying on the bed with half her face buried in the pillow, she looked softly at the screen. She knew that even though Fu-jiejie hadn’t said a word, she was definitely looking at her.

Compared to Honey, spending time alone with Fu-jiejie was still a bit more important.

“Honey is being taken care of so well by Fu-jiejie.”

    “…”

After a pause, Yu Yan asked coyly, “I want to see Fu-jiejie. Can I?”

Fu Yunqing: “Why do you want to look at me?”

“Ah…” Yu Yan frowned slightly. “I just want to.”

Did she think she could look just because she wanted to? Of course not.

Seeing that Fu Yunqing wasn’t agreeing, Yu Yan didn’t press the issue. Just being able to chat with her like this was wonderful enough. She was already video calling her ex-wife—could getting back together really be that far off? Victory was practically within her grasp, wasn’t it?

Holding the phone in one hand, Yu Yan raised her injured hand to the screen to show Fu Yunqing. The scrape on her palm was covered with a waterproof adhesive bandage. It seemed the wound was being protected well. Her expression carried a hint of a plea for praise. “It doesn’t hurt anymore.”

A tiny scrape never really hurt much to begin with. But when facing the person she liked, she couldn’t act too strong. She had to use it to her advantage.

Fu Yunqing couldn’t help but remind her again, “Watch where you’re going from now on.”

People are very fragile. Fu Yunqing never used to think so, but ever since that car accident where Yu Yan suffered a hairline fracture and spent a long time in a cast, a seed of worry had been planted in Fu Yunqing’s heart. She was always terrified that something else might happen to her.

“Mhm~ Of course I’ll watch the road when I walk. Today was just different. Today, I was just too reluctant to leave Fu-jiejie, so I kept looking back every three steps.” She was feeling rather smug, boasting shamelessly, “Next time, I won’t look back while walking. I’ll just stand still and watch you leave.”

Knowing her jiejie wouldn’t respond to her nonsense, Yu Yan smiled and said earnestly, “I’ll definitely watch where I’m going from now on. I will take good care of myself and not make jiejie worry, okay?”

She was behaving so well it was almost unbelievable.

She blinked at the screen, very consciously choosing to skip past this topic that wouldn’t get a response. “What were you doing just now, Fu-jiejie?”

Fu Yunqing’s response was brief: “Reading a book.”

“Oh…” She clearly hesitated for a moment. “Then I’ll hang up now. Thank you for letting me see Honey, Fu-jiejie.”

After saying that, however, she didn’t hang up.

Fu Yunqing didn’t find this strange or surprising. From where Yu Yan couldn’t see her, she waited leisurely for her to continue. Yu Yan hesitated for a moment, offered a flattering smile, and asked shyly in a soft voice, “Teacher Fu, could you tell me when your next class is?”

Afraid she would refuse, Yu Yan made sure to mention, “Today, Teacher promised me that as long as I don’t disturb anyone, I can go to your class.”

What other reason was there to refuse her?

Fu Yunqing sighed. “Wait a moment. I’ll check my schedule and let you know.”

“Okay!” This time she was truly satisfied. Although she still wanted to keep video calling the beauty, and although there were still many things she wanted to say and do, she ultimately couldn’t rush things. Yu Yan waved sweetly. “Bye-bye~ Goodnight, Fu-jiejie.”

Beep— The call ended. Seven minutes. The call had only lasted seven minutes, but from the moment Yu Yan first brought it up, Fu Yunqing had been subconsciously waiting. She had waited for over two hours.

In a haze, the entire evening had just slipped by.

She checked her schedule and sent the time and classroom of her next lecture to Yu Yan. Yu Yan replied with an OK sticker. Fu Yunqing picked her book back up. Her phone rested by her leg. She didn’t silence it as she normally would when reading, because she knew Yu Yan’s messages would probably still come through.

It might be a goodnight, it might be a thank you, it might be that she wanted another look at Honey, or just some trivial little thing.

She read three pages. It took fifteen minutes.

Sure enough, Yu Yan’s message arrived: 【Image】

Yu Yan: 【So annoying. I got a pimple here, and it hurts a little to touch.】

The image sent was a selfie of her side profile. A red pimple had popped up on her clear, fair cheek. Fu Yunqing tapped it open to look closely, then typed her reply: “It should be from internal heat2. Don’t squeeze it. Apply a little anti-inflammatory ointment, and it will go down quickly.”

    Yu Yan: 【Okay~】

Yu Yan: 【But it probably won’t be completely gone by the day after tomorrow.】 【Dejected jpg.】

She was going to attend Teacher Fu’s class the day after tomorrow. Teacher Fu really didn’t have many classes—at most two a week.

Fu Yunqing knew what she meant and replied: 【Then don’t wear makeup.】 She already looked very beautiful just the way she was.

Yu Yan: 【I’ll listen to Teacher~】

She had promised not to disturb Teacher Fu’s reading, yet back and forth, she pestered her for another half hour before finally settling down. Her sense of happiness was overflowing. Even getting a pimple on her face couldn’t dampen her good mood. When Yu Yan closed her eyes to sleep, the corners of her lips were still curled upward.

Going to sleep just after eleven counted as early, so she should have woken up bright and early the next day. Instead, Yu Yan slept until nearly the afternoon. When she woke up, her head felt heavy, and her throat was a bit dry. Between getting caught in the rain and the wind, she ultimately hadn’t escaped a viral invasion. However, she hadn’t realized this yet. She just assumed it was because she had slept too long or that the weather was too dry.

Getting out of bed, she found that Lu Yu had already gone to work. Yu Yan poured herself a large glass of hot water and chugged it down, glug, glug. Feeling much better, she didn’t give it another thought.

After eating breakfast, the Young Miss, home alone with nothing to do, began to make some plans for the day.

Should I go send jiejie a good morning text?

Never mind. I’ll wait a bit. Yu Yan wasn’t in the best condition today, and simping for a woman was highly draining work. She wasn’t yet prepared to muster the necessary energy. Besides, leaving the other party hanging for a bit was a common tactic Young Miss Yu used when chasing women.

After breakfast, Yu Yan started sorting out her finances.

She hadn’t checked in two days. The video she posted a few days ago had gotten great views, netting her another few thousand RMB in revenue.

After withdrawing her earnings and adding the money from that night’s livestream, the balance in her bank card was about ten thousand RMB at the absolute most. Her brows furrowed as a sudden sense of urgency gripped her heart. She was currently chasing her ex-wife, and there were many places where she’d need to spend money. Plus, she herself spent money like water. This meager amount was barely enough to treat Fu-jiejie to one more meal.

Everyone knew that someone without ambition would never have a wife. Yu Yan couldn’t keep letting things rot3 like this. She needed to update diligently.

Should I livestream now? But I’m already so tired.

Then I’ll just post a video. To her, posting a video was nothing more than taking a couple of photos. Not wearing makeup was completely fine, too. Bare-faced, wearing a cat-ear headband, a single wink from her could captivate a massive crowd.

So tired… I don’t want to sit up to strike a pose anymore. She flopped onto the pillow. Looking up, she brought the camera close, staring intently into the lens. Her gaze was as sly as a little fox’s. The feeling was instantly there. No need to retouch it; the raw live photo already looked great and possessed a strong sense of atmosphere.

Hehe, a photo guaranteed to mesmerize all of humanity has just been born.

She picked a trending BGM and edited the caption: Can I be petted by jiejie if I turn into a kitten?
