Blame the Villain – Chapter 27

Villainous Scientist (7)

The Empire also possesses mecha, yet the Empire’s mecha are not capable of withstanding the corrosive slime of the Insect Race. Moreover, the Empire’s mecha are quite heavy and operate with slower movements; thus, they haven’t been widely deployed on the battlefield. Their use is primarily reliant on Alphas manipulating heavy weaponry to attack the Insect Race.

In Song Xuyi’s heart, there lurked a speculation: Perhaps it was to curb the rise of Betas and Omegas, to maintain the absolute power of Alphas; that’s why the weaponry of the Imperial Star remains so primitive…

But the mecha of Blue Star seem to tell a different story.

The materials used in Blue Star’s mecha appear exceedingly light and thin, allowing the mecha to move with comparative agility; and their joint design is exceedingly appropriate, mimicking the dexterity of a living human…

“This is the secret of Blue Star that your mother defended with her life. Blue gold is a metal unique to our Blue Star. It can resist the corrosive slime of the Insect Race and possesses exceptional corrosion resistance…” Huang Fu, tapping the arm of the mecha, introduces it to Song Xuyi with eyes brimming with pride.

Looking up at the magnificent and imposing mecha in front of her, Song Xuyi connected all the pieces together. No wonder Huang Fu made her do exercises: operating a mech required considerable physical strength, and even though her own strength had greatly diminished, it still stood out among the Omegas. In addition to physical strength, operating a mecha called for more technical skills—for instance, anticipating the mecha’s joint fulcrums, gauging the mecha’s structural limits, and causing greater damage to the enemy with the minimal movements…

Huang Fu was not wrong; she was indeed the most suitable person for this combat role!

And the mecha could also realize Song Xuyi’s achievement—backed by the representation of power that is the mech, she could once again possess a strength not inferior to her former self…

A surge of passion flooded Song Xuyi’s heart; she had not even taken the time to visit the house that Huang Fu had arranged for her, instead following Huang Fu directly to enroll at the military academy.

The military academy was specifically tailored to supply talent to the armed forces, with its most elite specialty being the mecha department. Students of the mecha specialization train for two years within the school before they are deployed to the battlefield to join the ranks of mech squadrons.

Huang Fu had already informed the mecha academy of Song Xuyi’s prior learning situation, and, following tradition, the mecha squadron arranged an examination for Song Xuyi. She aced the theoretical test paper and received an “excellent” rating in the physical examination. Before long, she obtained an admission certificate from the mecha academy and would join the other freshmen for studies within a week.

“The extent to which you can reach at school is now on your own,” Huang Fu said emphatically, patting Song Xuyi’s shoulder. “In two years, I look forward to seeing you in the army, witnessing the prestigious might of Marshal Song Xuyi from Blue Star…”

Blue Star is not like the Empire, ruled single-handedly by an Emperor with major Alpha families gripping the upper echelons of society. Since the death of Song Xuyi’s mother, the Lord’s seat of Blue Star had been vacant; it was jointly managed by several generals selected by Song Xuyi’s mother with the public supervising all matters concerning the planet.

Blue Star selects its talents through examinations, and it was only then that Song Xuyi learned that Huang Fu was one of Blue Star’s generals, specifically responsible for the selection of military talents.

“There will come such a day.”

Song Xuyi stood at attention and saluted, flashes of the original owner’s memories crossing her mind—those Omegas confined to the back courtyard, the ferocious Insect Race on the battlefield, and the thick smoke that seemed never to disperse… Instantly, a surge of heroism blossomed in her heart—

In the tumultuous years of war, they used their hot blood as the ink, their unbending spirit as the brush, holding up the backbone of the nation, composing a blood-stained romance amidst cannon fire and gunpowder smoke.

In her original world, Song Xuyi might have had many reservations…

However, this is the world of her mission…

Narrowing her eyes, Song Xuyi gazed at the mecha statue in the center of the mecha school, her eyes slightly narrowed:

The favorable wind aids me often, lifting me up to the azure clouds!

Song Xuyi, holding her admission certificate, joyfully rode in Huang Fu’s aircraft back to her home on Blue Star.

Huang Fu had arranged for Song Xuyi a medium-sized two-story villa. To conceal the purpose of Song Xuyi’s visit, he publicly claimed that Song Xuyi was his long-lost niece.

Finally back on Blue Star, Huang Fu’s heart settled, and he busied himself preparing a table full of fine wine and dishes to welcome and cleanse the dust of travel for Song Xuyi.

Even though now transformed into an Omega, certain qualities of Song Xuyi’s body had not changed, such as, for instance, her capacity for alcohol—

After three rounds of drinks, Huang Fu’s face was flushed, and with a chaotic gaze, he began to ramble with tears and snot to Song Xuyi, who, except for a slight flush in her cheeks, remained quite sober.

When Song Xuyi’s mother married off to the Imperial Star, Huang Fu was just in his teens, a young boy who overnight had to bear the heavy burden of his home and nation, leading a frail planet on a path to strengthening. His slender shoulders gradually became sturdy, enduring countless trials like bitter winds and savage frosts, and finally, he did not betray the entrusted hopes of Song Xuyi’s mother. With his companions, he built a strong Blue Star…

Throughout this process, fearing that his sudden death might delay the prospects of the young lady, Huang Fu remained unmarried over the years, pouring all his energies into handling the affairs of Blue Star…

These words that Huang Fu spilled seemed to have been pent up inside for many years; once he started, he couldn’t stop. Song Xuyi was not the least bit impatient, listening quietly to Huang Fu’s words until he finally collapsed on the table, and his deputy carried him on his back to the aircraft and they headed home…

It was already late into the night. After sending Huang Fu off, Song Xuyi returned to her room intending to tidy up the messy table, only to find that someone was already standing beside it.

—Jiang Qianyu was seriously and carefully cleaning up the cups and dishes on the table, head bowed in concentration.

Why was Jiang Qianyu in her own home?

For an instant, Song Xuyi thought she was hallucinating. It took her a while to snap back to reality, and she hurried over to help…

“I’m going to be busy with school soon and might not have much time to look after you,” Song Xuyi softly began as she tidied up the cups and dishes, even though she knew Jiang Qianyu was more formidable than anyone, she could only pretend to be ignorant and continued, “The offer I made to you some time ago still stands. If you find someone you like, I will see you off in a grand wedding. And if you don’t, it’s no big deal. I have many assets under my name, and the last thing I’m short of is money, which can support you in any activities you like…”

Song Xuyi profoundly hoped that Jiang Qianyu would develop interests other than her research on drugs— perhaps, after feeling the beauty of the world, Jiang Qianyu might gradually make peace with it…

“Then, thank you, Marshal!”

Song Xuyi had thought that Jiang Qianyu wouldn’t pay any attention to her, but to her surprise, Jiang Qianyu turned to glance at her. Jiang Qianyu’s gaze swept past Song Xuyi, landing on a spot on the cabinet behind her, and her lips curled slightly upward, “I will consider it thoughtfully—”

Song Xuyi had wanted to say more, but she didn’t expect Jiang Qianyu to agree so readily. Caught off guard, Song Xuyi shifted the conversation: “Also, in the hearts of the people on the Imperial Star, I am already considered dead. On Blue Star, there isn’t such a strong sense of rank division, so from now on, we’re friends. You no longer need to call me Marshal, you can just…”

“—Xuyi,” before Song Xuyi could finish saying ‘just call me by my name,’ Jiang Qianyu had already turned her head back seriously and looked at Song Xuyi: “My name is Jiang Qianyu.”

This was the first time Jiang Qianyu had revealed her name…

Song Xuyi’s eyes widened as she struggled to contain her astonishment, with a tumult of shock and awe rising in her heart. However, facing Jiang Qianyu’s gaze, Song Xuyi could only squeeze out a smile on her face: “Your name is really nice to hear.”

“It’s the first time I’ve heard someone say that, maybe someone has before but I don’t remember,” Jiang Qianyu’s eyes curved, and she reached out to touch Song Xuyi’s face: “Everyone who knew my name has died…”

“But don’t be scared,” Jiang Qianyu’s lips curved, and she no longer consciously kept up a gentle facade in front of Song Xuyi, lifting her head proudly: “Since you said we are friends, of course I will try my best to protect you…”

Song Xuyi had mixed feelings about being declared a friend by Jiang Qianyu: she vaguely guessed that Jiang Qianyu did so because Song Xuyi saved her, which indirectly proved that Jiang Qianyu, the villain, was not beyond redemption—at least she was a person who knew to repay kindness with gratitude.

Yet, what followed was more of regret for Song Xuyi: because when the night came and Song Xuyi, having finished her bath, was just about to fall asleep, Jiang Qianyu knocked on her door, carrying a quilt into Song Xuyi’s room.

Jiang Qianyu was quite insistent, claiming she was afraid of the dark at night and, as a friend, she wanted to share a room with Song Xuyi.

Song Xuyi would have to be born yesterday to believe her lies—how could she be afraid of the dark when she used to live in the cargo hold of a dark ship…

Song Xuyi instinctively wanted to refuse.

After Jiang Qianyu’s previous research, Song Xuyi was extremely sensitive to the scent of Jiang Qianyu’s pheromones; if Jiang Qianyu were to share a bed with her, Song Xuyi feared that she might be influenced by the pheromones to commit some unforgivable acts…

However, before Song Xuyi could voice her refusal, Jiang Qianyu had already walked in with her quilt, circumnavigating Song Xuyi’s bed and placing the bedding and pillow in the wardrobe of the room.

Because she had just moved in, there were no clothes in Song Xuyi’s wardrobe yet. Jiang Qianyu seemed to have had her eyes on this spot for a while. She nestled into it, leaving one door of the wardrobe slightly ajar, curling up to sleep and closing her eyes: “Goodnight, Xuyi!”

“Goodnight.”

Jiang Qianyu hated Alphas and the Emperor so much, could it be related to her condition?

(If you're not reading on littlepandatranslations.com, it means this has been stolen)

Before long, the sound of Jiang Qianyu’s breathing from inside the wardrobe became even and steady…

Listening to Jiang Qianyu’s breathing, Song Xuyi also began to feel drowsy. She faintly felt that she might be overlooking something, but she couldn’t remember what it was. Finally, as heavy sleepiness washed over her, Song Xuyi also fell into dreamland.

Unbeknownst to Song Xuyi, in the middle of the night, Jiang Qianyu suddenly opened her eyes. She took out a vial, and under the dim moonlight, with an expressionless face, she injected herself in the arm…

……

The next day, when Song Xuyi awoke, she found that Jiang Qianyu was no longer inside the wardrobe.

Looking at the empty wardrobe, Song Xuyi belatedly realized something: Last night, Jiang Qianyu had fallen asleep without the sound of the ocean waves!

Was it because Jiang Qianyu had gotten over her reliance on the sound of the waves, or was she afraid of disturbing Song Xuyi?

If it was the former possibility: Song Xuyi thought of some psychological knowledge she had learned from the previous world, where some psychological traumas could be healed through specific treatments.

Song Xuyi was somewhat moved by the thought: If she could heal Jiang Qianyu’s psychological trauma, perhaps she wouldn’t end up doing the things mentioned in the plot summary…

After changing her clothes and finishing her morning wash, Song Xuyi came downstairs for breakfast and was informed by an old servant that Jiang Qianyu had left early in the morning.

Could it be that Jiang Qianyu also knows people on Blue Star?

But currently, Song Xuyi does not have the means to investigate Jiang Qianyu’s whereabouts.

Being new to Blue Star, she had various formalities to attend to and was out and about all day. However, when she returned in the evening, Song Xuyi discovered that Jiang Qianyu had not yet come back.

If this had been on Imperial Star, Song Xuyi would have been worried about Jiang Qianyu’s late return. But today on Blue Star, after having seen Omegas walking everywhere on the streets, and remembering Jiang Qianyu’s capabilities, Song Xuyi was actually more worried for those who dared to trouble her.

Through her encounters with various Alphas and Omegas, Song Xuyi had come to a realization: it seemed she had thoroughly turned into an Omega herself.

She couldn’t scent the pheromones of other Omegas, and perhaps due to her former status as an Alpha, Song Xuyi wasn’t attracted to Alphas either—in fact, she subconsciously repelled their pheromones…

Only Jiang Qianyu’s pheromones could provoke an irresistible urge in Song Xuyi, which to her was actually a blessing: at least it meant she could avoid the domination by Alphas…

As for Jiang Qianyu, recently she had been relatively well-behaved, and with Song Xuyi about to begin school, which was a boarding school that only allowed students to leave during winter and summer vacations, it was possible that by the time Song Xuyi had her break, Jiang Qianyu might have lost interest in her…

That evening, Jiang Qianyu returned just past nine o’clock. Song Xuyi thought that Jiang Qianyu would go to her own room, but not long after Song Xuyi closed her door, a knock sounded. There was Jiang Qianyu, fresh from her shower, hugging her quilt and pillow, once again occupying Song Xuyi’s wardrobe as her makeshift bed…

A week flew by in the blink of an eye.

Jiang Qianyu seemed to find so much joy on Blue Star, leaving early and returning late every day. Unwaveringly, she insisted on sleeping in Song Xuyi’s wardrobe every night, although she hadn’t played the sound of the waves again.

On the morning of the school opening, Song Xuyi awoke bright and early.

Unexpectedly, when Song Xuyi was about to leave, Jiang Qianyu was still coiled up asleep in the wardrobe. Song Xuyi didn’t want to disturb her, so she left a card for the butler to give to Jiang Qianyu, and then she went to school on her own.

With the new semester starting, the academy’s main avenue was filled with stands showcasing various welcoming events for the new specialties, among which the Mecha major was the most eye-catching. The Mecha major simply released a shimmering silver mecha from a capsule, drawing the gaze of everyone passing by.

Each year, the Mecha major recruited the fewest students, providing education for the top elites of Blue Star, with practically every one of them destined to become an important figure of Blue Star’s future. Hence, when Song Xuyi arrived at the queue for the Mecha major, she immediately attracted a swarm of attention.

This girl, so young and pretty, could she handle the arduous and tedious training of mecha?

……

However, Song Xuyi paid no heed to these gazes; she collected her campus card and dormitory key with neither arrogance nor servility, turned down the offer of accompaniment from a senior student, and, carrying her luggage, entered the dormitory building.

(If you're not reading on littlepandatranslations.com, it means this has been stolen)

The dormitory building was segregated according to designations – Alphas had a separate building, while Omegas and Betas shared another. The rooms were doubles with two very small single beds side by side, a pair of closets, a small vanity but beyond that, nothing else.

Although Song Xuyi’s ID card identified her as an Alpha, even though she was now an Omega due to Jiang Qianyu’s drug, the designation on the card hadn’t changed. As a result, Song Xuyi was still assigned to the Alpha dormitory.

In any case, the pheromones of other Alphas had no effect on Song Xuyi, so she was not at all afraid of mixing with the rest of the Alphas.

Song Xuyi quickly made up her bed, and just then, footsteps approached the doorway. Thinking to make a good impression and greet her new roommate, she lifted her head and with a smile said, “Hello, I am Song—”

However, the words Song Xuyi was about to say were caught in her throat—

Jiang Qianyu, dragging her suitcase, stood at the door with a beaming smile, looking right at Song Xuyi—

“I know, you are Song Xuyi…”
