Blame the Villain – Chapter 255

Extra Episode Two (Childhood Friends)

Song Xu Yi, the little child, is now five years old.

She’s the darling of the kindergarten, having grown up as a sweet and charming child since early days. Many people adore her.

That day happened to be Song Xu Yi’s fifth birthday.

Song Xu Yi was making a wish when suddenly a beautiful shooting star appeared in the sky. As she pondered, she recalled the beautiful girl from the neighboring class and earnestly made her five-year-old wish upon the shooting star:

“Shooting star, shooting star, I wish to be friends with the most beautiful person in the world!”

The next day, Song Xu Yi, the little child, brought the lollipop she had received the previous day and went to find the beautiful girl from the neighboring class. The beautiful girl was delighted to accept Song Xu Yi’s lollipop, and the two of them made a pinky promise before sharing the lollipop, officially becoming good friends.

Song Xu Yi felt like her dream had come true, and she spent the whole day smiling from ear to ear.

But on that same evening, as Song Xu Yi was getting ready for bed, a strange letter appeared on her table. The sender’s name on the letter was extremely unusual – it was signed as “A Letter from Friends from Beyond Seven Galaxies.”

At that time, Song Xu Yi had only just started learning to read and recognized only a few characters. It seemed that whoever wrote this letter knew that Song Xu Yi hadn’t yet begun to learn reading. Inside the letter were simple drawings:

The first drawing depicted a little girl rubbing her eyes while making a wish upon a shooting star in the sky;

Song Xu Yi, the little child, immediately recognized the scene in the drawing – the child making a wish was herself!

Song Xu Yi was overjoyed and quickly felt a liking for the artist behind the drawings because the person had portrayed her in an especially adorable way.

She then opened the second drawing, and the image from the first drawing appeared before a little girl standing by the window, her face unclear.

In the third drawing, countless stars were depicted, with a vector arrow carefully indicating the distance from Song Xu Yi’s planet to the seven galaxies beyond.

The fourth drawing still featured a faceless little girl, extending her hand as if to make friends with Song Xu Yi.

And afterward, several sheets of paper were all blank.

Song Xu Yi, the little child, pondered for a moment, thinking that these blank sheets were meant for her to draw on. So, she took out a pencil and on the first sheet, she clumsily wrote a few characters she knew, “來七個女朋友,”1 intending to write “Hello,” but she didn’t know how to write those two characters. Finally, Song Xu Yi, with the pen in her mouth, drew a smiling little figure waving on the paper, radiant with joy.

Magically, as soon as she finished drawing on that sheet, it immediately disappeared.

Initially, Song Xu Yi was a bit conflicted. Her wish had already come true, she had made a new friend with the beautiful girl from her class, and she had no idea if this alien girl who wrote to her looked good or not. After all, Song Xu Yi had seen a movie where aliens had dry skin and protruding eyes, which was quite scary.

But upon seeing these magical sheets of paper, Song Xu Yi immediately dispelled her doubts. She thought that even if her new friend might look ugly, she must be a very kind person willing to share such magical paper!

Song Xu Yi widened her eyes, feeling excited and lively. She drew another drawing, somewhat crookedly: it featured a little girl reaching out her hand, symbolizing her willingness to be friends with the girl from beyond.

Following that, Song Xu Yi drew another picture, showing a little girl drawing with a pencil. Song Xu Yi remembered scenes from the movie and wanted to be a little teacher to teach her new extraterrestrial friend the language of this planet.

(Originally translated on littlepandatranslations.com, let's go!)

On the last sheet of paper, Song Xu Yi drew a lollipop. She did it to express her hospitality and to show that she was a fair person. Just as she had given a lollipop to the beautiful girl during the day, she was willing to share one with her new friend when she came to her planet.

After the last sheet of paper disappeared, Song Xu Yi went to bed.

In the following days, she didn’t receive any more mysterious letters on her desk, and during the day at school, she found herself spending more and more time playing with the beautiful girl.

Children often have a big capacity to forget, and Song Xu Yi had almost forgotten about the friend from beyond, the one her parents didn’t believe in…

Until about a week later, a strange, shimmering metal box suddenly appeared on Song Xu Yi’s desk. As Song Xu Yi touched this box, it emitted a pleasant childlike voice from within:

“Xu Yi, you got the previous letter wrong! It should be ‘good friends’ instead of ‘girlfriends.’ I can write, and you are my only good friend, not seven.”

Wow! Was this the voice of that extraterrestrial child?

Song Xu Yi found the voice quite pleasant and wanted to hear more, so she couldn’t resist shaking the little box. As Song Xu Yi’s hand touched the small box, it emitted a mechanical electronic sound: “Temporal travel consumes a lot, limited to responding in fifty words!”

Fifty words? The new friend was so amazing, being able to count up to fifty!

Song Xu Yi was filled with admiration in her heart; at this moment, she could only count up to twenty, so fifty words seemed like a lot to her!

She couldn’t help but praise the small box, saying, “Your voice sounds so nice! Your drawings are adorable too. When you drew me earlier, it looked just like me, so cute! You’re a great learner, being able to count to fifty, while I can only count to twenty! Do you like lollipops…?”

Song Xu Yi felt like she had so many questions to ask her new friend, but before she could finish her sentence, the small box in front of her suddenly disappeared. Song Xu Yi realized, with a sense of regret, that she had exceeded the word limit with her words. It was the first time she had felt such regret, and it was also the first time she made a determination to study hard: she needed to learn quickly, count up to fifty, so that she could respond properly to her new friend in the future…

But Song Xu Yi hadn’t learned to count up to fifty yet when her new friend’s box appeared once again.

This time, the new friend’s box was much larger than before, and it still carried the voice of her new friend: “Xu Yi, your voice is lovely too, and you’re especially cute. I’ve never eaten lollipops…”

This time, when Song Xu Yi shook the box again, the mechanical voice inside changed its statement: “Storage space expanded, now capable of five minutes of voice communication!”

Song Xu Yi’s eyes widened!

She knew how long five minutes was; her mother had told her that on a clock, one full rotation of the minute hand was five minutes!

Song Xu Yi was overjoyed, and while glancing at the nearby clock, she poured out her words like a stream of beans, “You’ve never eaten lollipops! You’re so pitiful! When will you come to play with me in the future? I’ll definitely treat you to lollipops! Besides lollipops, we have many other delicious things here! I’ll treat you to everything! My mom gave me a lot of New Year’s money! Oh, and we have many super good-looking people here! You’ll definitely like them when you see them! These days, I’ve been watching a singing competition with my mom. There’s a big sister in there who’s really super pretty, and many people like her. She’s even prettier than the beautiful girl at school…”

Song Xu Yi chattered away, sharing her life and interests with her new friend. Even after the five minutes were up, she still had more to say.

When Song Xu Yi received the box again, her new friend told her, “Xu Yi, my name is Rong Yu. Thank you for telling me everything. I’ll find a way to visit your planet in the future!”

Song Xu Yi really liked her new friend’s voice; it sounded so pleasant. She always tried her best to get her new friend to talk a little more, but Rong Yu didn’t seem very talkative. Most of the time, she listened quietly to Song Xu Yi’s words.

However, Song Xu Yi could sense that her friend, Rong Yu, liked her because Rong Yu was indeed making an effort to come see her. The communication tools between the two evolved from paper to the voice box and, eventually, when Song Xu Yi was nine years old, a space phone appeared on her desk, capable of ten minutes of conversation.

On her ninth birthday, Song Xu Yi wanted to have Rong Yu sing her a birthday song in the night. She persuaded her parents to bring the cake home early, but that night, there was a heavy rainstorm, and the news reported multiple accidents.

For some reason, as she listened to the news reports of accidents on the television and looked at her parents and grandparents beside her, Song Xu Yi couldn’t help but feel like crying.

“Because Xu Yi is a kind girl,” Song Xu Yi expressed her inexplicable and sudden feelings to Rong Yu. On that day, Rong Yu on the interstellar phone was gentler than usual. She sang a birthday song for Song Xu Yi and comforted her gently, saying, “Xu Yi, you’re so cute; misfortune won’t dare to visit you. We will all live happily.”

After Song Xu Yi entered junior high school, she and the beautiful girl went to different schools, and their relationship gradually faded. Everyone had new friends suddenly, but as time passed, Song Xu Yi became more convinced: no matter how much time had passed or how many people she had met, Rong Yu remained her best friend!

However, it was also during Song Xu Yi’s thirteenth year that, for a long period, she couldn’t contact Rong Yu anymore.

Song Xu Yi felt extremely anxious, realizing that it had always been Rong Yu who had been contacting her, and she couldn’t contact Rong Yu on her own.

Her emotions became greatly distressed, and it seemed like she lost interest in many things. Song Xu Yi began to study diligently, thinking that if she learned enough knowledge, she might have a chance to travel beyond the seven galaxies in the future to see what had happened to Rong Yu.

It was during this time that a transfer student came to her school.

The moment the transfer student walked into Song Xu Yi’s classroom and stood at the podium, Song Xu Yi froze in her tracks. As someone who admired beautiful people, Song Xu Yi enjoyed looking at various types of beauties. However, she had seen so many beautiful people, and apart from the idol Wen Min, whom her entire family adored, Song Xu Yi had never seen anyone in real life as beautiful as this!

The girl on the podium was more dazzling than the sun itself. She smiled at Song Xu Yi, and Song Xu Yi felt like her heart was about to melt!

With the girl’s self-introduction, “Hello, everyone. My name is Rong Yu, and I’m a good friend of Xu Yi’s,” Song Xu Yi’s eyes widened, and she felt like she was in a dream. Rong Yu had actually come to her planet!

Rong Yu was incredibly beautiful!

(If you're not reading on littlepandatranslations.com, it means this has been stolen)

It wasn’t until the homeroom teacher arranged for Rong Yu to be Song Xu Yi’s desk partner that Song Xu Yi pinched herself hard, feeling the pain and confirming that it wasn’t a dream. Then, she stared at Rong Yu, who was smiling beside her, and said, “You really came! I’m so happy!”

“How long are you staying this time? When will you return to your own planet?”

……

Song Xu Yi bombarded Rong Yu with numerous questions, and Rong Yu replied gently:

“I no longer have my own planet. Our home star system has been obliterated in the vast universe,” Rong Yu lowered her head, her eyes showing a touch of sadness. However, when she looked at Song Xu Yi, her eyes carried a smile. “But I want to thank you. Because I’ve been wanting to come see you all these years, I paid special attention to the state of the star systems and have been working on developing tools for interstellar travel. Half a year ago, I timely discovered the message that chaos was imminent in the universe. We used the power of our planet to develop a large number of spacecraft and organized everyone’s evacuation, dispersing to many star systems.”

“Although our home star is gone, the people from our star system have all survived!”

“In the future, I will live here on this planet with you. This place will be my second home!”

……

“Don’t worry, I will definitely treat you well in the future!” Song Xu Yi didn’t expect Rong Yu to have gone through such a tough time during this period. She felt a surge of pity and, after school, emptied her pocket money to buy various promised snacks for Rong Yu. After school, she took Rong Yu to her own home and insisted her parents prepare a special and abundant meal for Rong Yu.

It was during this time that Song Xu Yi learned that Rong Yu had moved next door. She looked at Rong Yu’s beautiful parents and felt an unprecedented joy. In an instant, it seemed like even the gloomy sky had become brighter. For a beauty enthusiast like Song Xu Yi, what could be happier than being able to see beautiful people every time she opened her eyes?

Afterward, Song Xu Yi and Rong Yu rode their bikes to school together, played together, and were nearly inseparable. Rong Yu was even more outstanding than Song Xu Yi had imagined. She never seemed to get angry with Song Xu Yi and always had a smiling face when looking at her. Her academic performance was also exceptional, ranking first in the class almost every time…

Naturally, such an outstanding girl would attract admirers. Since Rong Yu arrived, Song Xu Yi had passed on numerous love letters to her, both from boys and girls. However, Rong Yu always tore them open, glanced at them, and set them aside.

Until one day, a blushing boy handed a letter to Song Xu Yi. She thought it was another letter for Rong Yu and handed it to her without much thought. But to her surprise, Rong Yu took a look at it, narrowed her eyes, and actually put the letter into her bag!

Song Xu Yi widened her eyes. Rong Yu had always ignored all the love letters, and it was the first time she accepted one. Could it be that Rong Yu liked this particular boy?

Song Xu Yi recalled the boy’s delicate and shy appearance and couldn’t help but ask, “Ah Yu, are you planning to date this boy? Although he looks cute, our parents don’t allow us to date early…”

“Do you think he’s cute?” Rong Yu’s eyes suddenly narrowed, and Song Xu Yi wasn’t sure what had come over her, but she suddenly felt that the Rong Yu in front of her seemed a bit dangerous. However, Rong Yu quickly smiled as usual and patted Song Xu Yi’s head, “Don’t worry, I have a sense of boundaries. Right now, I’m focused on my studies, and I hope you’ll accompany me to strive for admission to a top high school.”

“Although we’re considered adults on our planet when we’re over twenty, I came here and should abide by this planet’s rules. I’ll only start dating after the college entrance exam at eighteen…”

Rong Yu gave Song Xu Yi a deep look, and Song Xu Yi felt that Rong Yu seemed a bit strange, but she couldn’t quite put her finger on it. At the same time, hearing Rong Yu’s words, Song Xu Yi felt an indescribable sense of bitterness. Rong Yu’s words indicated that she already liked someone, and she had been spending all her time with her. How could she not know who Rong Yu liked?!

However, when Song Xu Yi asked Rong Yu who she liked, Rong Yu, who had never kept secrets from Song Xu Yi, averted her gaze and patted Song Xu Yi’s head, “I can’t tell you right now.”

Song Xu Yi widened her eyes, never having imagined that Rong Yu would have a secret of her own!

Afterward, Song Xu Yi clung to Rong Yu even tighter, trying to figure out who Rong Yu liked. At the same time, Rong Yu took this opportunity to focus on Song Xu Yi’s studies. Song Xu Yi’s academic performance suddenly soared, and together they managed to get into a top high school.

At first, Song Xu Yi thought that Rong Yu liked the boy who had sent the love letter. However, shortly after the boy sent the letter, Song Xu Yi saw Rong Yu talking to him. The boy burst into tears and ran away. From then on, he avoided them from afar, looking mournful…

After ruling out the boy, Song Xu Yi couldn’t figure out who Rong Yu might like.

As the years passed during their high school days and the college entrance exam approached, Song Xu Yi’s anxiety grew. Even though Rong Yu had never been in a relationship during high school, Song Xu Yi couldn’t forget that Rong Yu mentioned she liked someone. The thought of Rong Yu smiling at someone else, being with someone else, and Song Xu Yi feeling like a third wheel made her increasingly uneasy.

Song Xu Yi despised the possessiveness she felt toward Rong Yu. As a good friend, she believed she should be happy for Rong Yu. However, she couldn’t control her emotions. Just thinking about Rong Yu being with someone else made her feel profoundly sad.

This emotional turmoil reached its peak after the college entrance exam.

Rong Yu was so wonderful; she would surely end up with the person she liked.

It was also during this season that Song Xu Yi’s long-time idol, Wen Min, announced that she was pursuing a girlfriend and planning to get married.

Even though as a rational fan, Song Xu Yi had secretly indulged in plenty of sweet moments between Wen Min and her girlfriend Bai Qingshao, hearing the news of their impending marriage still left Song Xu Yi with a sense of melancholy. It seemed like everyone in the world was beginning to find love, while she remained a solitary singleton.

Wen Min’s final concert before her wedding was scheduled for the day after the college entrance exams.

Song Xu Yi managed to persuade both Rong Yu and herself to attend the concert.

For some reason, Song Xu Yi had been enthusiastically recommending Wen Min to Rong Yu several times, but Rong Yu hadn’t shown much interest until she finally nodded upon learning about Wen Min’s impending marriage. In fact, she praised Wen Min, breaking her habit of indifference, saying, “As a mermaid, she possesses an outstanding singing voice, making her one of the rare merfolk to escape the curse of a malevolent destiny.”

Due to Wen Min’s initial debut concept as a mermaid, she had been affectionately referred to as such over the years. Upon hearing Rong Yu’s words, Song Xu Yi didn’t dwell on them too much. During the concert, Song Xu Yi allowed herself to cry her heart out, using the atmosphere of the event to release some of her sadness. Wen Min was about to get married, and Rong Yu was soon going to be with her loved one. It felt like she was the only one left as a single person in the world.

However, when she saw Wen Min and her family appear together onstage, Song Xu Yi couldn’t help but feel joyous again, offering her loud and heartfelt congratulations.

……

Crying and laughing, Song Xu Yi felt drained after the emotional rollercoaster. In the end, Rong Yu carried her back home.

Under the vast starry sky, Song Xu Yi, who had cried so much earlier, couldn’t help but hiccup from crying too hard. Rong Yu’s voice sounded unusually icy, “You like her that much? I’ve never seen you so crazy before!”

“You won’t understand,” Song Xu Yi thought about Wen Min, who was about to be in a relationship, and her heart sank. She couldn’t help but feel melancholic. “It’s not just because I like her. I’m also happy for her. My idol is finding happiness. But everyone else is pairing up, and I’m just a single dog. It’s natural to feel a bit nostalgic…”

Song Xu Yi intended to comfort herself and reassure that even if Rong Yu entered a relationship, she wouldn’t forget their friendship. However, Song Xu Yi was surprised by Rong Yu’s cold laughter.

“Heh, who said I don’t understand!”

Rong Yu let go of Song Xu Yi, turned her head, and gazed deeply into her eyes. Song Xu Yi’s grip on her own clothes tightened involuntarily.

“Other people who like each other usually have mutual feelings, but I’ve spent all these years liking a dense blockhead. She has no idea that I like her! She even accepted love letters from guys right in front of me, cried and laughed for another woman. She used to call me her girlfriend when we were kids, but as we grew up, she changed her mind, wanting to be just friends…”

“It was you who told me that I made a mistake, and it should be ‘good friends,’ not ‘girlfriend’!” Song Xu Yi instinctively retorted. It was only later that she realized the meaning behind Rong Yu’s words, causing her eyes to widen, her heartbeat to momentarily slow, and then race once more…

So…

The person Rong Yu liked… was her?

“Back when we were kids, it was my mistake!” Rong Yu smoothly continued, gazing deeply into Song Xu Yi’s eyes, her own eyes tinged with a hint of nervousness. “These years, I’ve always wanted to be your girlfriend, Xu Yi. Are you willing to give it a try with me?”

Song Xu Yi stared into Rong Yu’s beautiful eyes, which were as captivating as ever, filled with nothing but herself…

Song Xu Yi’s heart raced faster and faster, and a strange yet exhilarating emotion overflowed from deep within. She bit her lip, her face turning bright red, but she clearly heard her own voice, sounding as faint as a mosquito’s buzz.

“Okay!”

To Song Xu Yi’s surprise, it seemed like everyone else, except her, already knew about Rong Yu’s feelings for her. Her family wasn’t surprised, her classmates weren’t surprised, and even the teachers didn’t find it unexpected…

They both enrolled in the same university and, upon graduating, with the witness of all their family and friends, they got married.

Without the hardships and pain they once faced, all their loved ones were by their side, and their life after marriage was filled with happiness and tranquility. They walked hand in hand through the journey of life until their hair turned white.

This is the story that Song Xu Yi crafted for Rong Yu and herself, a new world where their love story unfolded.

And in the vast universe, please believe that there will always be a world, a special place, for all of us: where love is fulfilled, regrets are few, wishes come true year after year, and joy and peace prevail!
