Top-Tier Omega: Chasing Alpha to the Crematorium – Chapter 68
by Little PandaBlocked
Ming Yu stepped out of the hover car, her legs feeling like lead. With every step, she could feel the lingering soreness in her body—especially in her waist and legs, making her tremble involuntarily.
She slowly moved to the edge of the bed. Her body went soft as she collapsed directly onto the mattress.
The touch of the sheets made her involuntarily recall Song Qingpei’s bed. That sensation of being enveloped by her familiar scent seemed to still cling to her skin. Despite her body’s unbearable discomfort, the feeling of being completely possessed by Song Qingpei still brought an indescribable, irrepressible throb of desire to her chest.
She rolled over, trying to find a comfortable position, but the lingering afterglow within her body still faintly stirred.
Her breathing gradually quickened; her body curled up involuntarily.
Ming Yu didn’t know when she fell asleep. She only remembered that, in her dazed state, she seemed to have returned to Song Qingpei’s bed, feeling the warmth of her body.
However, when she reached out to touch her, Song Qingpei’s figure vanished once again, leaving her all alone.
The next morning, when Ming Yu woke up, her body still hadn’t recovered.
Her waist and legs were still aching. Especially when she got out of bed, the discomfort made her draw a sharp breath. Forcing herself to gather her energy, she got up and walked into Song Song’s room.
The little one was still curled up under the covers, sleeping soundly.
Ming Yu gently patted her shoulder, her voice soft. “Song Song, it’s time to get up.”
Song Song groggily opened her eyes. Seeing Ming Yu, she called out in disappointment, “Mommy…”
Ming Yu managed to force a faint smile. She helped her straighten her clothes and led her by the hand to the dining room.
Breakfast was already laid out on the table, but Ming Yu had no appetite whatsoever. She merely went through the motions, mechanically putting food onto Song Song’s plate.
Song Song took a bite of her bread, then looked up at Ming Yu, her little face full of confusion. “Mommy, didn’t you coax Mama into coming back last night? Why did Mama leave again?”
Ming Yu’s hand paused; her chopsticks nearly slipped onto the table.
Seeing Ming Yu stay silent, Song Song looked pitifully aggrieved. “Mommy, I miss Mama… Can you take me to find Mama after school?”
Looking at Song Song’s expectant eyes, Ming Yu felt a wave of sour grief in her heart.
She patted Song Song’s head, her voice hoarse. “Song Song, be good. Mama is a bit busy lately. She’ll come back when she isn’t busy anymore.”
But Song Song refused to let it go, her little mouth jutting out. “But I miss Mama… Mommy, go coax her again. Mama is so easy to coax…”
Hearing this made Ming Yu feel even worse.
She lowered her head, wanting to say something, but not a single word would come out.
Seeing Ming Yu’s terrible expression, and how her eyes had even turned red, Song Song grew frightened. She quickly reached out her little hand to tug at Ming Yu’s sleeve. “Mommy, don’t cry… I won’t ask for Mama anymore. Don’t be sad…”
Ming Yu forced out a smile. “Mommy is fine. Eat your breakfast quickly. I’ll take you to school in a bit.”
Song Song nodded obediently, feeling incredibly worried. When were Mommy and Mama finally going to make up?
After breakfast, Ming Yu took Song Song to school.
Along the way, Song Song kept a tight grip on Ming Yu’s hand, terrified that she would get sad again.
Ming Yu maintained a forced smile as she coaxed Song Song through the school gates.
The moment she stepped away from the school, Ming Yu’s communicator rang.
She glanced at it. It was a call from Ming Rui.
“Cousin, are you… are you alright?” Ming Rui stammered, seemingly unsure of how to speak.
Ming Yu frowned. “What is it?”
Ming Rui hesitated for a moment before tentatively asking, “Um… what happened between you and Qingpei-jie last night? Did you two… have another fight?”
“How did you know?” Ming Yu was genuinely surprised.
Ming Rui sighed. “Cousin, you’d better check the news… The whole internet is discussing your situation right now.”
Ming Yu froze. She quickly opened the Star Network, immediately confronted by a glaring headline: 【Admiral Ming Yu Kicked Out Late at Night, Suspected Marriage Breakdown!】
In the video, Ming Yu was shoved out the door, looking completely wretched. Although Song Qingpei’s figure only appeared for a fleeting second, her actions were enough to make people speculate whether a rift had formed between the two.
Within just a few minutes, this video had detonated across the Star Network, rapidly climbing to the top of the trending searches1.
Ming Yu’s complexion instantly turned ashen, her chest heaving violently.
Her voice dripped with suppressed fury, as if squeezed through her clenched teeth. “Ming Rui, investigate this immediately. I want to know exactly where this video came from!”
Ming Rui hurried to answer, “Got it, I’ll arrange for people to look into it right away!”
Song Qingpei headed to her new company to report in first thing in the morning.
The company, named Xinghui Technology, was a highly prestigious mech repair and research enterprise within the Federation, specializing in high-end mech maintenance, upgrades, and custom services for both the military and civilian markets.
Because of Ming Rui’s connections, the General Manager, Li Yuan, personally received Song Qingpei and brought her to the Repair Department.
The Deputy Group Leader of the department, Lin Yue, was a young woman with solid technical skills and a cheerful personality.
When she saw Song Qingpei, her eyes held a trace of curiosity and inquiry, but she quickly greeted her with enthusiasm. “Miss Song, welcome to our group! Today, I’ll first show you around to get familiar with the work environment, and while we’re at it, assign you a partner.”
Song Qingpei nodded with a faint smile. “Thank you. I’ll be in your care.”
Lin Yue led her into the workshop, pointing to a mech currently undergoing inspection. “This is a major order our group recently took on. It’s a ‘Thunder-III’ model mech commissioned by the military, requiring a comprehensive overhaul and upgrade. Miss Song, you have extensive experience in this area, so you can take charge of repairing the core components.”
Song Qingpei looked at the mech, a flicker of interest flashing in her eyes. “No problem. I’ll get up to speed as quickly as possible.”
Lin Yue smiled, then waved over a young woman. “Xiao Xia, come here a moment.”
A young girl with her hair tied in a ponytail and wearing work clothes hurried over, asking, “Deputy Group Leader, what is it?”
“This is Song Qingpei, our new repair technician. Today, you’ll be partnering with her to handle the ‘Thunder-III’ inspection,” Lin Yue introduced.
Xiao Xia enthusiastically extended her hand. “Hello, Miss Song! My name is Xia Lin, but everyone calls me Xiao Xia. I look forward to learning from you!”
Song Qingpei shook her hand, offering a mild smile. “Hello. I look forward to working together.”
Throughout the morning, Song Qingpei and Xia Lin threw themselves into the mech inspection work.
Although Xia Lin was young, her technical skills were solid, and she worked very diligently. The two of them coordinated well and gradually grew familiar with one another. Soon, Xia Lin fell into a comfortable familiarity, calling her Qingpei-jie.
“Qingpei-jie, did you work for the military before? It feels like you’re incredibly familiar with the structure of these mechs,” Xia Lin asked curiously while tightening a screw.
Song Qingpei explained, “No, I just used to repair military mechs over at Blue Sea.”
“No wonder!” Xia Lin’s eyes lit up, her tone tinged with admiration. “I was wondering how you could be so amazing! I’ll definitely be learning a lot from you from now on!”
Song Qingpei smiled faintly and didn’t say much else.
When it was time for lunch, Xia Lin eagerly invited Song Qingpei. “Qingpei-jie, let’s go eat together? Our company cafeteria is pretty good, and today they have a special seafood set meal!”
Song Qingpei initially wanted to refuse, but seeing the eager look in Xia Lin’s eyes, she nodded. “Alright, let’s go together.”
The two of them, carrying their trays, found a window seat and sat down.
As they ate, Xia Lin enthusiastically chatted about work matters.
Though Song Qingpei didn’t say much, she occasionally offered a few words of response, keeping the atmosphere fairly harmonious.
Halfway through the meal, Xia Lin suddenly put down her chopsticks. She hesitated, then asked in a low, tentative voice, “Qingpei-jie, um… I have a question. It might be a bit presumptuous, but I really can’t help but ask…”
Song Qingpei looked up at her, surprised. “What is it?”
Xia Lin scratched her head, lowering her voice even further. “Um… are you and Admiral Ming Yu… having relationship problems?”
Song Qingpei’s hand paused slightly. “Why do you ask that?”
Xia Lin smiled rather awkwardly. “Actually… when I came into the office this morning, I heard a few colleagues gossiping, saying that you and Admiral Ming Yu… Uh, I was just a little curious.”
Song Qingpei said helplessly, “This is my private matter. It isn’t convenient to discuss.”
Seeing her cold attitude, Xia Lin quickly waved her hands. “S-sorry! I didn’t mean to pry, it’s just… uh, I was a bit curious, please don’t mind me.”
Song Qingpei glanced at her, her tone softening slightly. “It’s fine. Let’s eat.”
Xia Lin didn’t dare ask anything else and lowered her head to continue eating, but the curiosity in her heart only grew stronger.
After lunch, the two returned to the workshop to resume work.
Their afternoon task was to inspect and calibrate the energy core of the ‘Thunder-III’ model mech.
The two worked together seamlessly, and their progress went smoothly.
However, Xia Lin kept sneaking glances at Song Qingpei, clearly still thinking about the topic from lunch.
During a break, Xia Lin finally couldn’t hold it in anymore. She pulled out her communicator and opened the trending page.
She hesitated for a moment before walking up to Song Qingpei, whispering, “Miss Song, um… I think you’d better take a look at this. Although I know this is your private matter, the whole internet is discussing it right now, and I’m worried you’re being kept in the dark…”
Song Qingpei put down her tools, furrowing her brow slightly. “What is it?”
Xia Lin handed the communicator to her. Displayed prominently on the screen was the hot search that had been pushed to the very top.
【Admiral Ming Yu Kicked Out Late at Night, Suspected Marriage Breakdown!】
In the comments section, all sorts of speculation and mockery blanketed the screen, completely exploding like a boiling pot2:
【My god! Is this really Admiral Ming Yu?】
【Just a little while ago they were showing off their affection3, how did it turn into this in the blink of an eye? As expected, wealthy marriages are all just superficially glamorous!】
【Did these two get into a fight? Admiral Ming Yu’s eyes look so desperate.】
【Isn’t Song Qingpei being too heartless? Admiral Ming Yu begged her like that, and she actually still kicked her out!】
【I feel like things aren’t that simple. Admiral Ming Yu is usually so domineering. If she hadn’t truly done something wrong, why would she lower herself like this?】
【I think these two are going to divorce sooner or later, they simply aren’t from the same world!】
…
As Song Qingpei continued to read, her expression grew increasingly grim.
She never expected that last night’s events had actually been filmed and blown completely out of proportion.
Seeing her awful expression, Xia Lin hurriedly tried to placate her. “Qingpei-jie, don’t be angry… I also just saw it, and I was worried you didn’t know yet, which is why I showed it to you…”
Song Qingpei took a deep breath, managing a forced smile. “I understand. Thank you.”
Xia Lin nodded, not daring to say anything more. She simply returned silently to her own workstation and buried her head back in her work.
Song Qingpei stood rooted to the spot, her heart anything but calm.
Right at that moment, however, her own communicator vibrated.
She looked down. It was a voice message from Ming Yu.
The moment Song Qingpei tapped it open, Ming Yu’s hoarse and exhausted voice rang out:
“Qingpei… I really know I was wrong. I will never lie to you again, won’t you please come back? I really… I really miss you.”
Song Qingpei’s brow furrowed. Her finger swiped quickly, trying to close the audio.
But Ming Yu’s voice continued to play: “Last night… you clearly enjoyed it too, didn’t you? Whatever you want to do, I can cooperate with you. Can you please not treat me like this? I really can’t take it…”
Before the message could finish playing, Song Qingpei hastily pressed the stop button, but it was evidently too late.
Xia Lin, standing nearby, had heard every word loud and clear. At a complete loss for what to do, she ducked her head, pretending to stare intently at the tools in her hands as she awkwardly babbled, “Uh… um… I didn’t hear anything! Really, Qingpei-jie, don’t worry, I absolutely won’t say a word!”
Song Qingpei gave her a speechless look, a surge of irritation flaring up in her chest.
She quickly fired off a message to Ming Yu, her tone frigid: “Have you seen the thing about the video?”
Ming Yu’s reply came swiftly: “Qingpei, I’ve already sent people to investigate. Don’t worry, I will handle it.”
“Can you… can you please stop being angry first? I really know I was wrong.”
“I’ll come pick you up today and we can talk again, okay?”
Thinking about such a massive blunder4 happening on her very first day of work, the anger in Song Qingpei’s heart flared straight up.
“I don’t want to hear you say these things right now. Find out the truth about the video as soon as possible, and don’t let me see this messy nonsense again.”
However, Ming Yu’s replies remained persistent, nothing more than weak pleas for forgiveness.
The notifications chimed incessantly. Pushed beyond her limits, Song Qingpei directly blocked her5.
