To be honest, when Ren Muhui truly appeared in front of her, Ren Chenxi felt nothing but shock—no joy at all. This apocalypse survival game was so dangerous, she genuinely didn’t want her older brother returning to it. However, since Ren Muhui was already back, Ren Chenxi also secretly breathed a sigh of relief.

The real Ren Muhui had already appeared. Now Mu Ning should finally realize that she and Ren Muhui were two entirely different people!

Only… no matter how angry Mu Ning was at Fan Juntian for taking Ren Muhui hostage, her attitude toward Ren Muhui was still a bit strange! Right now, Ren Muhui was in imminent danger. Shouldn’t Mu Ning be rushing to save him immediately? Why was she just standing there doing nothing? Ren Chenxi still remembered when she returned to the game and reunited with Mu Ning, she had been surrounded by several mutated wolves. Hadn’t Mu Ning swiftly rushed over and instantly finished off those mutated wolves with a few vines? So why was she still standing here without moving? Instead, she was confirming whether Ren Muhui was actually her brother?

Feeling helpless, Ren Chenxi watched as Fan Juntian began threatening them again, demanding that she and Mu Ning come over. She could only urge Mu Ning once more, “Look at how dirty Fan Juntian and his people are. They definitely haven’t bathed in over a month. I don’t want to go over there, so just help me pull my brother over here!”

Faced with Ren Muhui being held hostage by Fan Juntian in mortal peril, Mu Ning remained entirely indifferent. But when Ren Chenxi leaned in close to her ear with a soft, gentle plea, Mu Ning took it completely to heart. Of course, before carrying out Ren Chenxi’s request, Mu Ning still needed to cautiously confirm one thing with her, to avoid wasting her efforts.

“Tell me, if I whip my vine over there, will your Protective Shield treat my vine as an attack and block it?”

Hearing Mu Ning ask this, Ren Chenxi also felt that having her use a vine to pull Ren Muhui over was a bit risky. If it were treated as an attack, not only would it alert Fan Juntian, but it would also be bad if others discovered the Shield on Ren Muhui’s body.

And right at that moment, Fan Juntian’s impatient voice rang out again. “What are you two dawdling and whispering about? Do you care about Ren Muhui’s life or not?! Ren Muhui, call your sister and Mu Ning over!”

Threatened with a knife held to his throat by Fan Juntian, Ren Muhui was truly filled with both hatred and anxiety. Under such critical circumstances, he entirely failed to notice that Fan Juntian’s dagger, which had previously injured him, could no longer touch the skin of his neck. But he also didn’t want his sister and Mu Ning to come over and end up controlled by Fan Juntian’s poison smoke. Just as Ren Muhui was caught in a dilemma, a few vines suddenly lashed fiercely toward Fan Juntian. At the same time, Ren Chenxi shouted loudly at him, “Brother! Run over here!”

Just as Ren Muhui was agonizing over what to do, Ren Chenxi’s sudden shout made him subconsciously raise his hand and shove Fan Juntian hard, before sprinting toward her. Seeing his last lifeline trying to run, there was no way Fan Juntian would allow it. He immediately raised his dagger again, heedlessly thrusting it toward Ren Muhui. If he stabbed this trash until he was severely injured, it would be much easier to control him!

Focused solely on running away, how could Ren Muhui spare a moment to care about what Fan Juntian was doing behind him? Seeing Fan Juntian’s dagger about to stab into Ren Muhui, the watching survivors couldn’t help but feel their hearts leap into their throats. At this critical juncture, one of the vines whipped fiercely across Fan Juntian’s face, two pierced right through his shoulders, and another was severed by an esper guarding him.

The vines Mu Ning shot out were all covered in sharp barbs. When the vine that had whipped across Fan Juntian’s face was pulled away by the esper protecting him, it instantly tore off a chunk of flesh from his cheek. The vines piercing his shoulders were also chopped off by a strength esper’s blade, but the thorny sections embedded in his flesh remained firmly lodged inside. As Fan Juntian screamed madly in agony, his dagger lunged toward Ren Muhui with even greater ruthlessness. The blade was just about to plunge into Ren Muhui’s back—but then, as if blocked by something invisible, his dagger could not advance another fraction of an inch.

However, without giving Fan Juntian a chance to try again, Mu Ning lashed out with a few more whips. To protect him, the espers by his side could only drag Fan Juntian backward. From the moment Ren Muhui ran, to Fan Juntian stabbing at him, and then to Mu Ning’s vine whip striking Fan Juntian—it all happened in a mere matter of seconds. To the onlookers, it simply looked as though Fan Juntian was about to deal a vicious blow to Ren Muhui, only to be stopped just in time by Mu Ning’s incoming vine whip. The wound torn open on Fan Juntian’s face caused him so much pain that he couldn’t afford to focus on stabbing Ren Muhui anymore, and naturally, his attacking dagger came to a halt.

Ren Muhui ran completely unimpeded all the way to Ren Chenxi. Realizing he had escaped Fan Juntian’s control and was out of danger, he was overcome with excitement. Just as he was about to give his biological sister—whom he was reuniting with after a long separation, and inside a game no less—a big hug, Ren Chenxi turned her face away in utter disgust and told him to stand further back.

“Brother, how long has it been since you showered? You stink to high heaven from head to toe!”

Being disdained by his sister, Ren Muhui felt a bit bashful. After scratching his head awkwardly, he carefully stole a glance at Mu Ning. Lowering his voice, he could only grumble to Ren Chenxi, “Do you have a conscience?! Your brother was tortured in every way possible by that bastard Fan Juntian on the road here. I’m incredibly weak and starving right now! Instead of comforting me, you’re actually disgusted by me!”

“Alright, alright! Stop talking!” Not only had Ren Muhui not showered, but he also hadn’t brushed his teeth! The moment he opened his mouth, all sorts of eye-watering stenches wafted out. Ren Chenxi could only tell him to shut up. At the same time, enduring the sour stench rolling off him, she whispered in his ear, “If someone comes looking for you later and says they want to take you for drug detox, just say your esper ability is rather special and that the poison smoke is ineffective on you, got it?”

While Ren Muhui was running toward her and Fan Juntian’s side was in total chaos, Ren Chenxi had tossed another Recovery Card onto her brother. Therefore, the drug addiction debuff that was originally beside Ren Muhui’s health bar vanished instantly. However, even though Ren Muhui’s drug addiction was gone, that helpful pharmaceutical genius Liang Ke would absolutely come looking for him. In her eyes, Ren Muhui, having been controlled by Fan Juntian the whole way here, would surely have contracted the drug addiction too.

Fortunately, however, upon returning to the game, Ren Muhui also had a player level. That fucking useless level could now serve to prove his identity as an esper. Anyway, no one else knew what his ability was, so even if he just made something up, they would have no choice but to believe it. Only… exactly how long had Ren Muhui been back in the game? Had he seriously not killed a single zombie? Why was his level still Level 1 Novice?!

Ren Chenxi had removed Ren Muhui’s drug addiction debuff and even prepared a perfect follow-up excuse for him. But the clueless Ren Muhui immediately grew anxious upon hearing about his drug addiction and tried to speak again. As a result, Ren Chenxi glared at him and said rather rudely, “Shut up. Hurry up and follow me back to take a shower right now. I’ll explain the rest to you later! Your goddess is right beside you; surely you don’t want to keep maintaining such a terrible image in front of her, do you?”

With Ren Chenxi bringing up Mu Ning, Ren Muhui had no choice but to quiet down. He hadn’t dared to walk over and greet Mu Ning just now precisely because he was afraid that his current wretched appearance would disgust her.

Taking advantage of the fact that Qi Sheng’s people had already rushed forward and started fighting Fan Juntian’s group, Ren Chenxi hurriedly led Ren Muhui toward the small villa. Seeing that the incident had concluded just like that, Chen Gu and the others immediately followed after Ren Chenxi, wanting to pry for some gossip along the way. However… the Boss’s attitude was a bit strange, wasn’t it? Her boyfriend had been held hostage, yet she showed no emotion; her boyfriend was rescued, and she wasn’t particularly excited either. They hadn’t even seen each other for over two years. Maybe she couldn’t bring herself to hug him because she found him dirty, but she should at least go up and say hello, right?

The Boss… why did it feel like she didn’t love her boyfriend that much? Furthermore, along the way, why did she keep shooting these dark, gloomy glances at him from time to time? Was she looking at her boyfriend, or was she guarding against a thief?

Compared to the boys’ bewilderment over Mu Ning’s attitude, the girls—under the tireless propaganda of the CP Chief1, Tang Ying—were observant enough to also notice the distinct difference in Mu Ning’s attitude toward Ren Chenxi versus Ren Muhui. Let alone the fact that when Ren Chenxi was surrounded by the wolf pack, Mu Ning had charged in to save her without a second thought. After saving her, she had even meticulously wiped her face, and after wiping her face, she had swept her up into a princess carry to go bandage her wounds. Looking back at Ren Muhui’s side in contrast…

Analyzing it the way Tang Ying did, the girls fell into silence. So, did their Boss actually like Ren Muhui, or did she like his sister?

Ren Chenxi had no idea what kind of gossip Tang Ying was leading the girls into now. She was solely focused on rushing Ren Muhui back to the Villa Area, after which she shooed him into the Men’s Building to take a shower. After his shower, Ren Muhui strolled out naturally with only a bath towel wrapped around his waist. The girls who had originally wanted to join in the fun immediately left in embarrassment. Mu Ning, on the other hand, looked even more awful; the icy glare she leveled at Ren Muhui looked as though she wished she could flay the skin right off his bones. Only Ren Chenxi acted as if nothing was wrong. She handed Ren Muhui a set of clothes without caring if the size was right, and then had Chen Gu arrange a room for him so he could change. There happened to be an empty room on the second floor, so Chen Gu assigned it to Ren Muhui.

Mu Ning had trailed after Ren Chenxi the entire way without the slightest self-awareness of being an outsider, let alone any intention of leaving. She followed closely on Ren Chenxi’s heels until Ren Chenxi dragged Ren Muhui to his room. Just as Mu Ning was about to step inside too, Ren Chenxi stopped her.

“I have some things I want to discuss with my brother. Could you head back to the Girls’ Building first?”

“…” What could Mu Ning do? She could only frown, shoot another scathing glare at Ren Muhui, and turn away. However, she still didn’t leave the Men’s Building. Hindered by the clutter piled everywhere in the second-floor hall, she had to make do with waiting in the lobby on the first floor.

Truth be told, it wasn’t that Mu Ning hadn’t thought about eavesdropping on their conversation, but Ren Chenxi in the room was incredibly sharp. Whenever Chen Gu and the other gossipers edged even slightly closer to the door, Ren Chenxi would yank it open with a swish, glaring coldly at them until they slinked away. Left with no choice, Mu Ning could only wait downstairs. As she waited, she racked her brain, trying to recall exactly where she had seen this Ren Muhui before.

After bringing Ren Muhui into his room, Ren Chenxi shut the door. Her ensuing conversation with him absolutely could not be heard by the NPCs of this world, Mu Ning included. However, Ren Chenxi wasn’t afraid of anyone eavesdropping outside the door either. She had the mini-map to alert her, so as long as a green dot approached, she would just open the door and chase them off. After the clingy Mu Ning had gone downstairs, and Ren Chenxi had confirmed there was no one outside the room, she finally interrogated Ren Muhui with complete lack of politeness: “Didn’t you say you stopped playing that brain-dead dating game?! Why did you run back into the game!”

Almost at the exact same moment Ren Chenxi’s interrogation rang out, Ren Muhui shot his own question back at her: “Didn’t you say you never played my save! Then how are you in this game too!”

The siblings glared at each other, but in the end, it was Ren Muhui who compromised. He shrugged helplessly and explained to Ren Chenxi that he had just been playing a different online game for a while, and suddenly felt a bit nostalgic for the Goddess Mu he had been courting. He also wanted to know how Goddess Mu’s attitude toward him would change now that her favorability value had reached 100 percent. So, disregarding the goddess’s blackening value2, he eagerly put on his gaming helmet.

In the end, he didn’t see his goddess. Instead, what welcomed him was a terrifying horde of zombies. The once vibrant S University campus had instantly transformed into a hell overrun by vicious ghouls. A dating game suddenly updating into an apocalypse survival game—this was something Ren Muhui could never have anticipated. What was even worse was that the log-out game interface had suddenly vanished, leaving him utterly trapped within this horrifying apocalypse.

As a player, Ren Muhui had naturally received the game update email as well, and had simultaneously obtained a game update big gift pack. In addition to the update big gift pack, as a novice, he also received a novice big gift pack! At the same time, there was a novice protection period lasting 48 hours. During these 48 hours, he would be completely ignored by all outside creatures. Although Ren Muhui was deeply bewildered—since he was clearly a veteran player and had entered the game by loading a save, why would the game classify him as a novice?—he didn’t have time to think too deeply about it. Taking advantage of the novice protection period, he could only hurry up and escape the zombie-infested hell that was S University.
