    Ren Muhui

Qi Sheng acted quickly. That very day, he brought his people to seize the Fan family territory. At the same time, the original Administrative Building was vacated and rented out to other survivors in the base.

The accommodation conditions in the Administrative Building were better than those in the classrooms and the Dormitory Building, so the rent was naturally a bit higher. However, it was still much cheaper than the Villa Area. In no time, many survivors who lived in the Teaching Building and Dormitory Building moved into the Administrative Building. Meanwhile, the rent for the Teaching Building and Dormitory Building was also heavily reduced. Previously costing 200 or 100 Level 1 crystal cores, everything was now slashed by half.

Therefore, the large number of newly vacant dormitories and classrooms were filled by the original residents of the Tin Shacks. At the same time, because a massive amount of supplies and crystal cores had been scavenged from the Fan family, Qi Sheng allowed the remaining old, weak, sick, and disabled who were still crammed in the Tin Shacks to move into the Dormitory Building and Teaching Building for free, and provided them with a large quantity of living supplies.

Winter had arrived. Because of Liang Ke’s return and the influence she had on him, Qi Sheng also didn’t want any more people to die this winter.

On the other hand, Liang Ke had returned to that sin-filled laboratory of the Fan family. This time, however, she felt no psychological burden when manufacturing the poison pills. She knew she was doing it to save people, not harm them.

Liang Ke didn’t know her drug addiction had been cured by Ren Chenxi’s Recovery Card. She wholeheartedly believed it was the effect of the poison pills with gradually reduced poison dosages. Therefore, she threw herself into the research and development of these poison pills, strictly dividing them into several stages, controlling the dosages of various poisonous grass and medicinal herbs, and adding an appropriate amount of Chinese medicine that could reduce dependency on drugs. By a stroke of luck, these poison pills actually had a very obvious effect in helping addicted espers detoxify. Although they couldn’t instantly eradicate the addiction in a single day like the Liang sisters had experienced, by taking the antidote pills produced by Liang Ke over a long period, the addicted espers suffered fewer and fewer drug withdrawal flare-ups, and their dependency on the poison pills steadily decreased.

Before long, they would surely be able to successfully kick their drug addiction!

Hearing so much recent gossip from Chen Gu and Zhang Tongqi, Ren Chenxi was quite surprised. Given Liang Ke’s personality, Ren Chenxi had guessed she would try to save people, but what she hadn’t expected was that Liang Ke would actually go and research ‘antidote pills’. She could only say that a medical genius was indeed a medical geniusโ€”even without her Recovery Card, Liang Ke still found a way to save those poisoned survivors.

When Zhang Tongqi brought up Liang Ke’s ‘antidote pills’, she sounded a bit regretful. “It’s a pity Xiao Jia finished off all the Antidote you gave her, Xi-jie. Otherwise, I definitely would have taken a few pills to Liang Ke so she could study them.”

Hearing this, Ren Chenxi could only count her blessings. Thank goodness there hadn’t been much left in that bottle of anti-inflammatory medicine, and thank goodness Sun Jia had taken it all. Otherwise, she definitely would have been exposed!

After finishing their gossip about Qi Sheng and Liang Ke, Ren Chenxi watched Chen Gu turn and head back to the Men’s Building. Zhang Tongqi, however, kept looking at her cautiously, hesitating as if she wanted to say something but didn’t dare to open her mouth. Seeing this, Ren Chenxi took the initiative to ask, “Is there something else?”

Since Ren Chenxi had asked, Zhang Tongqi felt a bit embarrassed to bring it up. “Xi-jie, isn’t winter almost here? Qi Sheng has actually been doing a pretty good job as the leader lately, keeping the entire base organized. Not only did he let the old, weak, sick, and disabled who used to live in the Tin Shacks move into the Teaching Building and Dormitory Building, but he also plans to renovate the Tin Shacks so that all the winter stalls can be centralized there.”

“Ah! I get it! We haven’t set up our stall for several days now. You want to remind me that it’s time to have Huo Keyu and the others go set up the stall and earn some crystal cores, right?”

“No, no, no. I meant that in order to help those vulnerable people in the base have a relatively decent winter, Qi Sheng issued a notice this morning hoping everyone could donate some unused clothes and quilts. He’ll gather them and distribute them to the elderly. So, I just wanted to ask you, Xi-jieโ€ฆ”

“Right! If that’s the case, I definitely can bring out some clothes that don’t fit!” Hearing this, Ren Chenxi felt a bit ashamed again. Sure enough, her care and concern for this game world truly couldn’t compare to an NPC inside it!

Zhang Tongqi went to the second floor to look for clothes and quilts, while Ren Chenxi went up to the third floor. Jian Dan and the others on the third floor basically didn’t have any clothes of their own; the clothes, trousers, and even the bedding they were currently using had all been given by her. They certainly wouldn’t be able to produce any warm clothing. But she was differentโ€”she still had over 120 Costume Cards! Taking advantage of the fact that Jian Dan and the others were playing games, with Tantan curiously watching from the side, she quietly slipped into her room, drew the curtains, took off her jacket, and began using the Costume Cards on herself one by one. Only after all the Costume Cards were exhausted did Ren Chenxi start picking through the pile, selecting down jackets, padded clothes, padded trousers, sweaters, and woolen trousers.

After selecting all the clothes, Ren Chenxi changed back into her original outfit, then called Jian Dan and the others over to help sort them out. Of course, before sorting the clothes, they could pick out some warm clothes for themselves to prepare for winter.

While Ren Chenxi and the others were sorting clothes, Zhang Tongqi, Wu Tong, and the rest also came up carrying two bags they had sorted out. Even Mu Ning, who was always cold-hearted1, brought up a bag. Seeing Mu Ning, Ren Chenxi immediately waved her over. “You’re just in time. These clothes of ours definitely won’t be nearly enough to protect the old and weak from the cold. Remember our haul from the underground warehouse? There were five whole shelves of clothing, two shelves of cotton quilts, and an entire shelf of electric blankets. Let’s take what we need and donate the rest to the base, what do you think?”

The reason she consulted Mu Ning was that Mu Ning was the backbone2 of the entire team. As long as Mu Ning agreed, Chen Gu and the others would naturally agree as well.

Although Mu Ning was cold-hearted, she wouldn’t stubbornly hoard excess items she couldn’t use just to exchange them for crystal cores. Trading those supplies for crystal cores wouldn’t be nearly as fast as her fishing! Therefore, with almost no hesitation, Mu Ning agreed to Ren Chenxi’s proposal. Of course, with so many supplies, it was impossible to donate them all at once; otherwise, it would definitely arouse Qi Sheng’s suspicion.

After organizing everything clearly, Ren Chenxi and the team kept a portion for themselves and carefully selected an appropriate amount to give away. In the end, Mu Ning stepped forward to donate these supplies to the base. When Mu Ning returned with Zhang Tongqi and the others from what used to be the Fan family territoryโ€”and was now Qi Sheng’s territoryโ€”she told Ren Chenxi that quite a lot of people had donated supplies. Moreover, according to Qi Sheng, they had also confiscated a massive stockpile of winter supplies from the Fan family and planned to distribute it all to the elderly and children in the base. He even spent a large sum of crystal cores to hire some base technicians to modify over twenty mobile power supplies to provide heating for those elderly and children.

On the eve of the cold winter’s arrival, everyone was carrying out their winter preparations in an orderly manner.

That day, just like usual, Ren Chenxi took Tantan and Mu Ning to the beach in the morning. When they returned at noon, surprisingly, Chen Gu and the others hadn’t come back yet. Just as Ren Chenxi was worrying about whether they had encountered any trouble, Sun Jia, Jian Dan, and Huo Keyu came in through the door, each carrying a large basket of their harvest. They informed Ren Chenxi that Chen Gu and the other boys had gone to park and unload the rest of the harvest from the bus, while Zhang Tongqi, Song Xin, and Chang Ling were watching the excitement because some people were arguing in the base.

Fighting was strictly prohibited by the rules in the base, but arguing was still allowed. Sometimes, a group of people would start arguing over a trivial matter, and as they bickered, it would escalate into exposing each other’s dirty secrets. Then, some truly worldview-shattering3 gossip would come to light. Gossipy girls like Zhang Tongqi and Tang Ying loved nothing more than to join the crowd and listen to the drama at times like this.

Therefore, upon learning that Zhang Tongqi and the others were watching the commotion, Ren Chenxi simply nodded in understanding and helped take the bamboo basket off Huo Keyu’s back to see what they had gathered today. Just as everyone was happily discussing what wild vegetables they had picked and what spices they had found, Zhang Tongqi suddenly rushed in from outside in a panic.

What earth-shattering gossip had she heard to shock herself into this state? Just as Ren Chenxi was feeling puzzled, she never expected that Zhang Tongqi’s opening words would give her a shock as well.

“Boss, Xi-jie, Fan Juntian is back!”

“Fan Juntian? He actually didn’t die?” Having not seen Fan Juntian return to the base for so long, Ren Chenxi had assumed he’d died out there.

“He didn’t die, a-andโ€ฆ” Zhang Tongqi stammered, casting quick, furtive glances at Mu Ning and Ren Chenxi as she spoke.

“And what? Could it be that he found an even stronger esper to be his backer?” Ren Chenxi asked, somewhat dismissively.

“Noโ€ฆ he likely used his poison smoke to control a person. This personโ€ฆ” The more Zhang Tongqi spoke, the more she hesitated. At the same time, the way she looked at Ren Chenxi was somewhat strange.

“Who is this person?” For some inexplicable reason, Ren Chenxi intuitively felt that something was wrong.

“It’s your older brother, Xi-jie. You even said your brother was deadโ€ฆ”

“!!!” Upon first hearing the three words ‘your older brother’, Ren Chenxi initially thought she was hallucinating. But listening to Zhang Tongqi’s quiet complaint, she became certain that Zhang Tongqi was talking about Ren Muhui.

Ren Muhui is being controlled by Fan Juntian? That can’t be right! He’s in the real world! How could the Fan Juntian in the game world possibly control him? And even bring him back to the base? Thinking of this, Ren Chenxi stared suspiciously at Zhang Tongqi. “You shouldn’t have seen Ren Muhui before, right? So how do you know the person Fan Juntian brought back is him?”

“I haven’t seen your brother, Xi-jie, but aren’t you and your brother twins? That man Fan Juntian brought back looks somewhat similar to you, Xi-jie, and he looks exactly like the man in Yang Xiangrui’s phone. Furthermore, Fan Juntian was arrogantly calling outโ€ฆ”

    “Calling out what?”

“Calling outโ€ฆ” Zhang Tongqi carefully glanced at the gloomy-faced Mu Ning. Although she felt that the Boss’s expression was somewhat offโ€”not at all the look she should have upon hearing news of her long-yearned-for boyfriendโ€”she still answered honestly, “Fan Juntian called for you to go out and receive him, Boss, because Qi Sheng was originally going to make a move against Fan Juntianโ€ฆ”

Hearing Zhang Tongqi say this, Ren Chenxi instantly understood the sinister intentions of that despicable coward Fan Juntian. He must have discovered this so-called ‘Ren Muhui’ on his way back to the base. Knowing that Ren Muhui was very important to Mu Ning, he controlled that ‘Ren Muhui’ and brought him back to the base to threaten her. Just now, when Qi Sheng wanted to make a move against Fan Juntian, Fan Juntian noticed things going south and used ‘Ren Muhui’ to coerce Qi Sheng, claiming how important this person was to Mu Ning, so that Qi Sheng wouldn’t dare act rashly.

But the question was, was this ‘Ren Muhui’ real or fake?!

As Ren Chenxi pondered in confusion, Mu Ning, her face dark, walked straight out the door. Seeing this, Zhang Tongqi immediately chased after her, calling out as she ran, “Don’t be impulsive, Boss! You must stay calm! Don’t fall for Fan Juntian’s tricksโ€ฆ” and so on. Seeing this, Ren Chenxi could only follow along to take a look. She really wanted to see where exactly Fan Juntian had procured this ‘Ren Muhui’ from. It couldn’t be some expert with a disguise ability putting on a front, could it!

The author has something to say:

Seeing the little cuties have doubts about using poison pills to detox, the author actually checked some reference materials. Indeed, in past detoxification methods, there were cases of gradually reducing the narcotic components and adding Chinese medicine like wild jujube seed, kudzu root, and tangerine peel to progressively resist the effects of drug addiction. Of course, the author doesn’t know the exact effectiveness of thisโ€ฆ Just treat it as the medicinal efficacy of Chinese medicine becoming even better after apocalyptic plant mutations~
