    Restraint

Zhao Ningying’s 100-day banquet1 was held with grand celebration.

Qu Sheng and Xiao Bingying were no longer abstaining from alcohol, so they drank quite a bit. Zhao Jiayu, unable to outdrink the two, ended up drunk and was carried back to her room on Xiao Bingying’s back.

Xiao Bingying returned to keep the guests company. On her way, she took back Qu Zhimu, whom Qu Yu had previously led away, and carried her in her arms.

“Auntie, is Mama very happy today?” asked Qu Zhimu in a tender, little voice as she nestled in Xiao Bingying’s arms.

Xiao Bingying looked down at her and smiled. “Yes, today is your little sister’s 100-day banquet. Your mama was happy, so she drank a bit too much.”

Qu Zhimu gave a little nod. Earlier, she had seen her mother drunk in the room, and her tiny brow had knitted together in worry.

Xiao Bingying saw Qu Zhimu’s worried expression and smiled. “With Auntie here, your mama will be just fine.”

Hearing Xiao Bingying’s words, Qu Zhimu’s face cleared. Her eyes curved into sweet crescents as she threw her arms around Xiao Bingying’s neck, planted a kiss on her cheek, and said in a sugary voice, “It’s so good to have Auntie.”

Getting kissed by the little one seemed to put Xiao Bingying in an even better mood, and she wore a smile all the way back.

When the banquet drew to a close, the Emperor and Empress took their leave. Qu Zhimu stayed by Zhao Ningying’s side until Cheng Xi and Xiao Bingying returned, only then heading back to Zhao Jiayu’s courtyard.

If Auntie was going to protect Mama, then she would protect her little sister.

Because she had to nurse Qu Ning, Lin Xizhao didn’t touch a single drop of alcohol, but Qu Sheng was somewhat drunk by now. Snuggling her head into Lin Xizhao’s embrace, Qu Sheng slept peacefully the entire way.

Once they arrived at the imperial palace, Lin Xizhao helped Qu Sheng down from the imperial carriage and headed straight back to their private bedchamber to feed Qu Ning.

Qu Sheng shed her outer robe and lay down beside the mother and daughter, hardly daring to breathe. Having drunk today, she was afraid the scent of alcohol on her would annoy Lin Xizhao or rub off on Qu Ning.

The little girl kept her eyes wide open as she gazed at her mother, swallowing down her milk in big gulps while her other hand gripped her own tiny foot. Seeing how tightly she was squeezing it, Qu Sheng, worried she might hurt herself, gently pried her hand away. But as soon as the little one let go of her foot, her tiny hand reached straight toward her feeding spot.

The smile on Qu Sheng’s face froze. The moment the little one’s hand reached in, Qu Sheng gently pulled it back out.

Yet after a moment, Qu Ning reached for it again. After this repeated a few times, when Qu Sheng tried to pull her hand away once more, the little girl grew stubborn. She flailed her tiny hands, refusing to let Qu Sheng touch her.

Lin Xizhao watched Qu Sheng wrestle with their daughter and cast a helpless, mock-scolding glare at her. “Ning’er is still so small.”

Qu Sheng wasn’t about to back down either. “How is she small?” she muttered softly. “She clearly knows that’s the softest spot…” The rest of her words remained unspoken. She looked up at Lin Xizhao, putting on a petulant, aggrieved expression. After all, that was hers.

Seeing Qu Sheng’s huffy, unreasonable display, Lin Xizhao actually gave in, gently holding down their daughter’s tiny hand.

Only then did a smile return to Qu Sheng’s face.

Qu Ning nursed for a long time. Qu Sheng watched from the side, but perhaps because she had drunk too much today, she unconsciously drifted off to sleep.

By the time Qu Sheng woke up, the lamps in the room had already been extinguished, and her clothes had been changed into a soft inner robe.

Qu Sheng lifted her head to look for her wife and daughter, but she only saw Lin Xizhao. Qu Ning was nowhere to be found.

“Wife, where is Ning’er?” Qu Sheng asked, instantly growing anxious.

Lin Xizhao had only just fallen asleep. Hearing Qu Sheng’s voice, she opened her eyes and replied, “I had the wet nurse take her.” Qu Sheng had been drinking today, so it was truly not suitable for the little one to sleep in the same bed with them.

Hearing this, Qu Sheng let out a sigh of relief. She had slept incredibly deeply this time.

Lin Xizhao had already sat up by now to check if Qu Sheng was feeling any discomfort. As Qu Sheng watched Lin Xizhao touch her cheek to check on her, her newly settled heart began to wander over Lin Xizhao’s soft, beautiful face.

Lin Xizhao couldn’t see very clearly by the moonlight filtering through the window. Intending to light a lamp, she rose to her knees to get off the bed, but Qu Sheng reached out from behind and pulled her back.

With a soft gasp, Lin Xizhao fell back into Qu Sheng’s embrace. She looked up at Qu Sheng; though she couldn’t see clearly, she could hear the breathing near her ear growing increasingly hurried.

“Wife…” At this moment, Qu Sheng behaved like a rogue, completely unable to control her desire for Lin Xizhao.

Lin Xizhao also noticed the change in Qu Sheng. She didn’t push Qu Sheng away, nor did she dodge when Qu Sheng leaned in closer.

That Lin Xizhao had let the wet nurse take Qu Ning tonight without separating from Qu Sheng was proof enough of her own feelings.

“I… I asked Bingying today. She said your body has almost fully recovered, Wife.”

Hearing Qu Sheng’s words, Lin Xizhao became even more certain of what Qu Sheng wanted to do. Gazing into Qu Sheng’s eyes, which were filled with an eager yearning for intimacy, she lowered her gaze and let out a soft, “Mm.”

At Lin Xizhao’s assent, Qu Sheng’s face lit up in a bright, toothy grin. However, she quickly pulled it back, afraid Lin Xizhao would see her smug expression at having gotten her way. A moment later, Qu Sheng’s gaze drifted down to Lin Xizhao’s lips.

Qu Sheng’s throat bobbed. She slowly leaned in close, pressing her lips against Lin Xizhao’s soft mouth.

Her smooth tongue pried open Lin Xizhao’s teeth, swirling and tangling together before gently rubbing. Melting into the comfort of it, Lin Xizhao unconsciously relaxed and let out a soft moan.

But just as Qu Sheng was losing herself, Lin Xizhao hurriedly pressed her hand down. “Don’t.”

Qu Sheng only had to think for a brief second before she understood why Lin Xizhao was stopping her. She pulled her hand back, slowly lowering her lips to cover hers.

Yesterday, when she had tasted her for the first time, she hadn’t stopped, leaving their daughter with nothing left to eat. Tonight, she would pace herself.

After the 100-day celebration for the young lady of the Zhao family, Xiao Bingying returned to her duties. However, everyone in the guard headquarters knew she had been blessed with a daughter. They sent her home early every single day, never keeping her for even fifteen minutes.

Appreciating their kindness, Xiao Bingying shared this with Cheng Xi upon returning to the residence. Cheng Xi then had some refreshing, heat-relieving treats prepared and sent to the guard headquarters.

As soon as Xiao Bingying returned home, Cheng Xi was able to get some free time. The little one was an active baby; though she was still very young, she had already begun to slowly lift her head.

Holding her daughter against her shoulder, Xiao Bingying paced slowly back and forth, letting the child look at her surroundings.

Watching the two of them walk back and forth, Cheng Xi didn’t find it boring at all. Whenever the little one came near, she would look up at Cheng Xi and smile.

“Eldest Miss, Young Madam, Master and Old Madam request your presence in the front hall for dinner,” a maid in the residence reported with a bow.

Xiao Bingying turned around and nodded. “Very well, we’ll head over in a moment.”

Once the maid left, Xiao Bingying looked at Cheng Xi. The weather had been sweltering and humid lately, and Cheng Xi seemed a little irritable.

“Wife, if you don’t wish to go, I can have some heat-relieving dishes prepared and brought here for you.”

“There is no need,” Cheng Xi said as she stood up and walked outside. Xiao Bingying could sense her displeasure, yet she had no idea how she had offended her.

Xiao Bingying picked up a thin baby blanket from the side, draped it over her daughter, and hurried out after her. Hearing footsteps behind her, Cheng Xi glanced back.

Keeping a steady pace, Xiao Bingying followed closely behind her, maintaining a comfortable distance as they made their way to the front courtyard. As soon as they entered, they saw Mother Zhao hurrying out to greet them.

“Mother,” the two greeted in unison with a bow.

Mother Zhao beamed in response. “Come, give Ying’er to me.”

Xiao Bingying lowered Zhao Ningying from her shoulder and handed her over to her grandmother.

“Oh, my sweet girl, is our Ying’er all full?” The moment Mother Zhao took her, Zhao Ningying’s tiny body gave a little twitch as she hiccuped.

Seeing her adorable state, Mother Zhao’s eyes sparkled, and her voice unconsciously softened.

Cheng Xi let out a soft chuckle. “She just nursed, so she needs her back patted to settle it.”

Hearing this, Mother Zhao quickly said, “I’ll do it. You two hurry along and eat.”

Walking over to the dining table, Xiao Bingying first pulled out a chair for Cheng Xi. Once Cheng Xi approached, she nudged it forward slightly so she could sit comfortably.

Xiao Bingying first ladled a bowl of heat-relieving soup for her father, then ladled another for Cheng Xi.

“I don’t want to drink that.”

Before Xiao Bingying could even place the bowl in front of her, Cheng Xi rejected it.

Xiao Bingying’s hand froze in midair. She cast a slightly bewildered look at Cheng Xi, then brought the bowl back to her own side.

When Xiao Bingying placed food onto her plate, Cheng Xi didn’t refuse. She spoke with her father at the table, her tone perfectly warm and gentle.

After returning to their courtyard and letting their food digest, Xiao Bingying coaxed their daughter to sleep. When she looked up, she saw Cheng Xi lying on her side on the bamboo mat, staring at her in a daze.

Returning her gaze, a smile blossomed on Xiao Bingying’s face. But just as she was about to speak to her, Cheng Xi turned over to face the wall, no longer looking at the mother and daughter.

Bewilderment washed over Xiao Bingying once more. What on earth had she done wrong?

Now that Zhao Ningying was asleep, Xiao Bingying handed her over to the wet nurse. She walked to the daybed where Cheng Xi was lying and scooped her up into a bridal carry.

Cheng Xi shifted in her arms, looking up at her. “What are you doing?” she asked flatly.

Xiao Bingying pursed her lips and replied softly, “I’m taking you to bathe, Wife.”

Cheng Xi stared intently into Xiao Bingying’s eyes, offering no resistance as she was carried up.

They entered the washroom. Xiao Bingying set Cheng Xi down and helped her undress. Looking at her flawless body, her throat bobbed for a brief moment before she gently lifted her into the bathing tub.

Standing at the side, Xiao Bingying gently bathed Cheng Xi with tender, delicate strokes. Once finished, she lifted her out, dried her off, and carried her back to the bedchamber.

Lying on the bed, Cheng Xi watched Xiao Bingying leave, and the annoyance in her heart flared up even more.

Xiao Bingying went to bathe. By the time she returned, the lamps inside the room had already been extinguished. Afraid of waking Cheng Xi, she made her way through the darkness. She knew the room well enough to avoid bumping into anything, but as she approached the bed, she fell straight into Cheng Xi’s embrace.

“Wife?” Even though her movements had been slow, Xiao Bingying was still terrified of hurting Cheng Xi. She reached out in a panic to check on her, only for Cheng Xi to pin her arms down and capture her lips in a kiss.

Cheng Xi’s kiss was exceptionally fierce. Though still thoroughly dazed, Xiao Bingying couldn’t help but open her eyes in confusion. Yet, her body instinctively began to respond to her wife’s touch.

The arms Cheng Xi had wrapped around Xiao Bingying’s neck slowly slid down, pressing between them as she unfastened the sash around Xiao Bingying’s waist.

As the robes loosened, Cheng Xi directly stripped off her outer layers, trailing her kisses down to Xiao Bingying’s neck. The sucking and biting of lips and tongue sent a wave of ticklishness mixed with a slight sting through Xiao Bingying, forcing a soft grunt from her throat.

Cheng Xi looked up at her, but her kisses didn’t stop.

Under the teasing touch of those fingertips, Xiao Bingying’s body also began to burn with heat.

Cheng Xi pushed Xiao Bingying back toward the bed, but when her back hit the edge of the mattress, Xiao Bingying tensed in resistance, her voice muffled as she muttered, “Ying’er is still here…”

Hearing her mention their daughter, Cheng Xi broke the kiss, breathing softly as she said, “I had her sent to Mother’s room.”

Hearing this, Xiao Bingying offered no further resistance, willingly falling back onto the bed as she was pushed down.

Cheng Xi climbed over her, seeking out her soft lips once more. Xiao Bingying had been far too restrained. Ever since Cheng Xi became pregnant, the two had treated each other with the respect of guests2. It had gotten to the point where Cheng Xi had almost begun to worry that her body had lost its shape during pregnancy, making Xiao Bingying lose interest.

But now that she had given birth, her body had fully recovered and was free of any blemishes. How could Xiao Bingying still keep herself so heavily in check?

The author has something to say:

Xiao Bingying: “I just feel bad for my wife. She works so hard taking care of our daughter, and she’s also—”

    Cheng Xi: “Excuses!”

Xiao Bingying: “I know I was wrong.”

Qu Sheng: “Learn from me. Eating and drinking is so much better.”

    Lin Xizhao: “Shut up!”
