The comments in the live stream went so crazy that the screen began to lag.
【They’re crazy for money.】
【Why couldn’t they just go by the highest likes? Do we really have to pay to vote?! This is ridiculous (Is this reasonable?)】
【This voting method is baffling1.】
【Yingma Outdoors gear is heartbreakingly terrible to use. And you even ripped a screenshot of Liu Yinxi’s live stream to use as a promotional poster for your products. I don’t even want to talk about it =_= [Attached image: Yingma Outdoors hardshell jacket, Yinxi recommends it too~]】
【Hahaha, you made this auntie laugh until I puke2. Did Liu Yinxi ever recommend your Yingma? The hardshell jacket brand she recommended to Nan Huaixu was Cyan (Laugh-cry)】
【Huai Army, charge! Join the group3 at xxx-xxx-xxxx, everyone must vote 99 on my designated comment!】
【Shao Army, let’s go! Gather at the super topic4! After signing in, go clock in5 with the junior admin6 and receive your task to vote 99 per person!】
【Those supporting Huang-jie and Yuyu, gather here! Everyone do your part, give whatever you can, and let’s push this post to the top (Strive)】
【Sisters! The official account for Yuan’s Mink just made an announcement. If you hit the charts7 for her comment, they’re raffling off a sable coat!】
【Everyone here better seize this opportunity. The chance to see big stars suffer doesn’t come often. I’ll be the first to cast 99 votes to send Team 46 a pair of nail clippers.】
【Let’s crowdfund to send Nan Huaixu a photobook of my Hong’er-jiejie. We’ll make her reflect in front of the photos and think about how my jiejie isn’t good enough for her (Eye-roll)】
【The clout-chasing8 off Manman and forced shipping are haunting us like ghosts.】
【Grow a brain. Your Hong’er already dropped a tier9 from acting in that brainless drama. If you don’t pool your money to boost her show’s views, next time she won’t even be able to squeeze into the back row of a film festival (eating melons10)】
【We Shao fans have something to say, though we don’t know if we should.】
【Honestly, sending any kind of supply would never be as good as swapping out a better teammate for A Yun (Facepalm)】
【 on this’ or ‘Agreed.'”]Agreed11.】
【I hope future seasons of 《Survivor》 can add a teammate-swapping segment (Angry)】
【The Commander told us to vote for the most useless supplies. She hopes Miss Yanyan will end the competition and come home as soon as possible.】
【Attention, in public, call her the Boss.】
【But I heard from the Secretary that the Boss called the production team’s director again last night, worried that Miss Yanyan isn’t eating or sleeping well.】
【So touching! As expected of our Boss who loves her soldiers like her own children QAQ】
【I just won a sable coat from Yuan’s Mink! What great luck, you all should go try too~】
【I like Senior Sister Lu Yiqi. I cast a vote for her and Boss Yuan. I hope Yuan’s Mink will gift me a sable coat.】
【Already voted for a tent! You can do it, Boss Luo!】
【Sister, you cast your vote in the wrong place. This is Boss Yuan’s support area.】
【Omo12, I actually voted in the wrong place! I regret not getting new glasses sooner (Plankton wailing)】
【I’m speechless. Someone actually wants to send a book in this comment section: 《How to Fall in Love》. Are you guys here to be funny?!】
【I sent it, is there a problem?】
【@Ruthless-Path-Breaking Research Center, hahaha sister, you’re something else (Laugh-cry)】
…
After two hours of emergency maintenance on the live stream system, the lagging issue in the main 《Survivor 5》 stream was finally fixed.
Comments rolled across the screen like falling snow as fans from all sides spoke their minds.
《Survivor 5》 Host: 【Thank you all for your enthusiastic participation!】
【What kind of gifts of love will our guests receive from the fans in the seventh airdrop?】
【Let’s all look forward to the moment the answer is revealed!】
Under the rising sun, the tropical rainforest was brimming with life.
Bracelet date: May 13.
It was past seven in the morning.
The sounds of chirping insects and croaking frogs drifted from the damp grass.
Nan Huaixu walked to the edge of the pitfall trap. She used a wooden stick to push aside the collapsed dead branches and leaves, calling out to her companion in pleasant surprise, “Liu Yinxi, look. We’ve struck it rich.”
Liu Yinxi hurriedly ran over, clutching her bundle of herbs.
What good thing had they caught to make Teacher Nan this excited?
“Look.” Nan Huaixu lifted away the leaves.
As the last layer of dead leaves was peeled back, the prey hidden beneath revealed its true form. Its fur had been pierced by a wooden stake and was stained with blood. Sensing someone approaching, it kicked out forcefully, but its struggles only worsened its injuries.
Seeing the prey clearly, Nan Huaixu couldn’t bear the sight. “It’s so cute.”
Liu Yinxi’s first thought was, This rabbit is so fat.
May Mother Heaven be praised! She had finally caught a wild hare.
She had been craving a roasted rabbit leg for a long time.
Nan Huaixu used her wooden stick to poke the wild hare’s ears, then gently prodded its paws. The hare struggled, burrowing into the pile of leaves in an attempt to hide. Its small, round, pitch-black eyes were filled with fear of humans.
At the bottom of the dirt pit were a few leftover scraps of cassava peels and banyan fruit pulp that the hare had gnawed on. Its current terror was the price it paid for its gluttony.
Liu Yinxi crouched down to examine the rabbit. “It’s way too fat. You generally don’t find individuals this plump in the wild.”
As she spoke, she grabbed the rabbit’s ears with one hand and supported the lower part of its spine with the other, lifting it horizontally. The wild hare kicked its hind legs twice before settling obediently in Liu Yinxi’s arms.
In this supine position, the wild hare’s swollen belly was incredibly obvious. Its back didn’t have much meat and felt thin to the pinch, but its belly bulged outward on both sides. At a glance, it looked completely abnormal.
Nan Huaixu also noticed something was wrong. “This rabbit…”
Liu Yinxi asked Nan Huaixu to help hold the wild hare’s limbs. She quickly felt the hare’s belly, then let out a sigh.
“What’s wrong?” Nan Huaixu asked.
Liu Yinxi turned the rabbit over, slipping her left arm under its abdomen to support it. She stroked it gently with her right hand. “Teacher Nan, I want to let it go. Its belly is full of baby bunnies.”
Nan Huaixu fell silent. Her expression was a mix of complicated emotions; one eye showed reluctance, the other pity.
It had been over a month into the competition, and this was the first time they had caught a mammal. It was such a good source of meat, she was loath to give it up.
But it was a pregnant rabbit carrying new life.
Liu Yinxi’s voice grew quieter. “The old saying goes, ‘no hunting in spring13.’ In spring and summer, many animals are breeding. We have rice and fish…”
Nan Huaixu silently took off her backpack. She pulled out a small bottle of plant ash and sprinkled a little bit onto the wound on the rabbit’s hind leg.
Liu Yinxi spoke cautiously, “Teacher Nan, I’m sorry.”
Nan Huaixu gently stroked the rabbit’s ears and put the bottle away. “No need to apologize. This is a decision we’re making together. If I were to eat a pregnant mother rabbit, I’d have nightmares for the rest of my life. Alright, let it go.”
Liu Yinxi’s gaze toward Nan Huaixu held an added measure of admiration.
Nan Huaixu had constantly been saying that she wanted to eat meat other than seafood. They had waited so long for an opportunity like this. Liu Yinxi had thought it would be difficult to convince her to give up the rabbit already in their hands, but unexpectedly, Nan Huaixu agreed quite readily.
Before transmigrating into the book, when Liu Yinxi led a team, they had once caught a nursing female rabbit. The vice-captain had refused to let it go, arguing that rabbits bred prolifically and that eating one wouldn’t matter. In the end, Liu Yinxi had to argue with her extensively before releasing it.
Teacher Nan really was different from everyone else.
So gentle and kind.
Liu Yinxi walked over to a cluster of bushes and placed the rabbit on the grass. The moment she let go, the rabbit bolted and vanished in an instant.
She and Nan Huaixu re-set the trap, checked the compass, and continued exploring toward the northeast.
Today they were going to explore the path heading toward the upstream Toa River. Since their route passed through the trap area, they checked their traps and added bait along the way.
Starting from the Great River Mouth, the further upstream they went, the more rugged and steep the terrain became. In many sections, they had to climb on all fours.
Nan Huaixu had mastered the climbing techniques Liu Yinxi taught her and was becoming increasingly proficient. She could now climb ordinary hillsides independently without Liu Yinxi’s help.
With the changing terrain and elevation, the vegetation also differed, featuring an abundance of large, tall trees not seen in the middle or lower reaches.
Grasping her trekking pole, Liu Yinxi scaled a steep hillside. She turned and extended a hand down, pulling Nan Huaixu up.
The two of them steadied their footing and patted the dirt off their hardshell jackets and pants.
Nan Huaixu listened carefully, locking eyes with Liu Yinxi.
Liu Yinxi’s eyebrows twitched slightly. “Teacher Nan, did you hear it too?”
“Mhm…” Nan Huaixu looked around. Her eyes lit up as she pointed toward the base of a tall Nanyang pine. “Over there.”
They walked over slowly. From a distance of about ten meters, they spotted the mangled torso of a hog deer lying in the grass at the foot of the pine tree.
This hog deer was quite small, with tiny antlers just beginning to sprout from its head. The wound stretched from its throat down to its abdomen, and its chest cavity was almost entirely empty. It was missing its two hind hooves, and its back and flanks were covered in claw marks.
Liu Yinxi frowned. She swiftly pulled her knife from her bag and tilted her head up, searching the surrounding branches.
“Wha—”
Before Nan Huaixu could make another sound, her lips were covered by the alpha’s rough palm.
She turned her head in confusion, her back pressing into a warm chest. Liu Yinxi held her knife high, her sharp gaze locked onto a large tree straight ahead as she slowly backed away, keeping herself squared toward the trunk. Sunlight pierced through the dark canopy, illuminating a pair of cold, beastly eyes.
Nan Huaixu pressed tightly against Liu Yinxi’s chest and held her breath.
