Blame the Villain – Chapter 28

Starting From Scratch: Little Marshal x Mad, Dark, Sickly Scientist
“How did you end up here?”
Song Xuyi was utterly dumbfounded, watching helplessly as Jiang Qianyu boldly wheeled her suitcase inside and sat down on the adjacent bed.
“I came here to go to school, of course,” Jiang Qianyu said, her smile looking completely natural. “I got an identity card processed on Blue Star over the past few days…”
She blinked her beautiful eyes, her expression looking incredibly innocent as she handed the identity card and admission notice to Song Xuyi, her gaze holding a touch of quiet anticipation. “I don’t know what happened either. When I was getting my identity card processed, I somehow registered as an Alpha. Then, right after I finished enrolling, I was somehow assigned to this dorm room…”
“What a coincidence, Xuyi! I’m actually in the same dorm room as you!”
…
Song Xuyi’s lips twitched. She did not find this coincidental in the slightest; with so many absurdities piled on top of one another, she would have to have a screw loose to believe it was all mere chance!
With a complicated expression, she looked at the admission notice clearly bearing the words “Medical School,” then glanced at the room keycard in Jiang Qianyu’s hand. For a moment, she felt nothing but utter despair.
“System, I really… I’ve never seen anyone so utterly shameless!”
“It’s alright, Xuyi. You have to believe you can get through this,” the System’s voice sounded exceptionally optimistic. “We should look on the bright side. Now that she’s enrolled in school, she definitely won’t have as much time to research those harmful drugs…”
“Besides,” the System’s voice gradually grew softer. “It’s not the first time you’ve encountered someone this shameless…”
Song Xuyi did not hear the System’s final words clearly because Jiang Qianyu, sitting opposite her, had absolutely no sense of restraint. She even had the nerve to lean forward and ask, “Xuyi, we’re sharing a dorm room from now on. Are you happy?”
Song Xuyi’s lips twitched. Looking at that flawless face, she had a sudden, powerful urge to slam a pillow onto Jiang Qianyu’s face…
Song Xuyi had not felt this irritable in a very long time.
Receiving no response from Song Xuyi, the smile on Jiang Qianyu’s lips gradually faded. She stared at the silent Song Xuyi and opened her mouth, about to say something—
Suddenly, hurried footsteps echoed from outside, and a group of people pushed open the door, swaggering inside.
“I heard there’s a woman in this dorm who ranked first on the Alpha physical fitness test?”
“Hah, acting so arrogant the moment you enter the school. Do you dare come out and spar with me?”
The leader was a tall woman with ostentatiously dyed red hair, a prominent black tattoo on her arm, and a nose stud. The moment she entered, she hostilely released a highly aggressive Alpha pheromone.
Feeling the pressure of the other party’s pheromone, Song Xuyi frowned slightly. The original host of this body had indeed been the undisputed number one on the Alpha rankings, but Song Xuyi’s current strength was only that of an ordinary Alpha. While she might be considered strong compared to Omegas or average Betas, her current capabilities were far from enough when up against a truly powerful Alpha.
Although the woman before her clearly harbored ill intent, the surging wave of her pheromone proved she was no weakling.
Who had leaked her information?
Over the past few days, Song Xuyi had studied the laws of Blue Star. Blue Star enforced extremely strict regulations on Alphas, prohibiting them from bullying Betas and Omegas in any manner, but there were no restrictions against Alphas challenging other Alphas…
Song Xuyi was not prepared to fight anyone, yet she had never expected a provocation to arrive so suddenly!
A moment of silence fell.
Seeing that no one was paying attention to her, the red-haired woman glanced between the two people in the room. She froze visibly upon getting a clear look at Song Xuyi’s face, but when her eyes fell on Jiang Qianyu, they lit up instantly. The casual, insolent expression vanished from her face, and a visible flush crept across her cheeks.
“I’m Chen Xi, a second-year senior from the Heavy Blade Department. I’m currently the top Alpha on the comprehensive ranking.” Chen Xi straightened her spine and finally shifted her gaze back to Song Xuyi, her tone now much more polite. “I heard you’re the strongest among the incoming freshmen, so I wanted to come and test you—”
“How about this? I’ll give you a ten-move head start.” Chen Xi’s eyes drifted back to Jiang Qianyu, and she cleared her throat, her gaze darting away. “But if you lose, I… I want to swap dorms with you…”
Song Xuyi’s eyes widened. She had never expected such a wonderful turn of events!
Jiang Qianyu’s strength was unfathomable. If she were to end up rooming with a powerful Alpha like Chen Xi, Song Xuyi could already foresee the chaotic, turbulent life they would lead…
The mere thought of such a scenario made Song Xuyi want to laugh out loud…
However, she desperately suppressed her amusement. She looked up at Chen Xi, preparing to simply admit defeat and move out of the dorm, when a voice suddenly cut in from the side—
“I think you’ve mistaken one detail—” Jiang Qianyu’s face had darkened at some point. She slowly stood up, her eyes narrowing. Stepping up to Chen Xi, who stood a full head taller than her, she raised her eyes expressionlessly.
“The person who ranked first on the Alpha physical fitness test during enrollment is me!”
Song Xuyi had never imagined that the seemingly fragile and sickly Jiang Qianyu possessed such immense strength.
It was not just Song Xuyi; almost every Alpha spectating the fight felt a chill run down their spine at Jiang Qianyu’s combat style. She had not even released her pheromonal pressure, yet her speed and power were barely human. Moving like a blur of afterimages, she left Chen Xi unable to last even five minutes before the senior was pinned to the ground, entirely unable to get back up…
Song Xuyi clicked her tongue in amazement. Even if the original host of her body had been here at her peak, facing Jiang Qianyu would have been a bitter struggle—and she would likely have lost.
“Do you still want to fight?”
Even though her opponent was already down, Jiang Qianyu showed no intention of stopping. She knelt down, ignoring the terror in Chen Xi’s eyes, and wrapped a hand around the paralyzed senior’s neck, slowly lifting her up with narrowed eyes—
“That’s enough!”
Seeing Chen Xi’s eyes beginning to roll back, and fearing a fatality while the onlookers hesitated to step forward, Song Xuyi had no choice but to step into the fray and grab Jiang Qianyu’s hand.
Jiang Qianyu cast a glance at Song Xuyi, then released her grip on Chen Xi’s throat, tossing her onto the ground like a discarded rag.
Worrying that the situation would escalate, Song Xuyi quickly bent down to check on Chen Xi. The senior lay on the floor coughing violently, all color drained from her face, with not a single trace of her former arrogance remaining…
Fortunately, aside from being badly shaken, Chen Xi was not seriously injured. Song Xuyi let out a sigh of relief. When she turned back to look for Jiang Qianyu, she saw that the crowd had parted to form a path, and Jiang Qianyu had already walked out of the dormitory building…
Song Xuyi belatedly realized that Jiang Qianyu… seemed to be angry.
But… hadn’t they been completely fine earlier?
…
This was the first time Song Xuyi had ever witnessed Jiang Qianyu lose her temper, and she felt a bit apprehensive. Afraid that Jiang Qianyu’s anger would be directed at her, she deliberately lingered outside for quite some time, only dawdling back to the dorm after Chen Xi was sent to the clinic.
It had been nearly an hour. Jiang Qianyu’s anger had probably cooled down by now, right?
Yet when she pushed open the dorm door, Song Xuyi realized she had been far too optimistic. Judging by the chilly look Jiang Qianyu shot her, she could tell that Jiang Qianyu was definitely still angry.
Song Xuyi could only try her best to minimize her presence. Keeping her head down and her eyes lowered, she stepped softly into the room and sat down on her bed.
Jiang Qianyu was currently fitting her duvet and spreading her bedsheets. Perhaps because she had never made a bed before, her duvet was crumpled into a chaotic mess. Her movements carried a hint of fierce, venting spite, as if she were about to rip the sheets apart…
Looking at the bed that was about to be torn to pieces by Jiang Qianyu, Song Xuyi sighed. In the end, she could not help but speak up softly: “Let me do it.”
Jiang Qianyu’s aggressive movements froze. She cast a glance at Song Xuyi, then stood to the side with pursed lips.
Even though she knew how terrifying Jiang Qianyu could be, Song Xuyi had to admit that an angry Jiang Qianyu looked incredibly cute. Her beautiful features softened the harshness on her face, making her look like a puffed-up little wolf cub. It made one want to reach out and pinch her puffed-up cheeks…
Of course, not even if she were beaten to death would Song Xuyi dare to be so bold.
Song Xuyi quickly made the bed.
Sensing that Jiang Qianyu’s mood had improved slightly, Song Xuyi breathed a sigh of relief. She sat back down on her bed and opened her smart-brain1.
“You should go wash up first. I’ll take a look at the campus map to familiarize myself with the layout…”
The sound of a suitcase being shifted came from beside her.
Yet even after a long while, Song Xuyi heard no further movement. She glanced sideways: Jiang Qianyu was sitting by the edge of the bed, holding onto her suitcase without moving…
Song Xuyi’s gaze fell upon the tightly closed suitcase, and she understood instantly. Jiang Qianyu likely had items inside that she did not want Song Xuyi to see…
Song Xuyi withdrew her gaze and cleared her throat. “I’m a bit tired and want to sleep early. I’ll go wash up first…”
Song Xuyi deliberately took her time in the shower. By the time she came out, Jiang Qianyu had indeed finished putting her things away and was heading into the bathroom with her washbasin.
Listening to the swish of running water from the bathroom, Song Xuyi began browsing the school map. After memorizing the layout, she checked the class schedule for the next day. Having completed her preparations, she shut off her smart-brain and lay down on the bed.
She had a faint feeling that she had forgotten something, but for the life of her, she could not recall what it was.
Before long, Jiang Qianyu stepped out of the bathroom.
Flushed from the warm steam, Jiang Qianyu’s cheeks bore a rosy tint, and her expression seemed slightly gentler than before, though she still kept her lips tightly pursed in silence.
Jiang Qianyu lay down on her bed and turned off the lights, plunging the room into darkness.
Song Xuyi heard a rustle from the adjacent bed as Jiang Qianyu settled down.
In a sudden flash of realization, Song Xuyi finally remembered what she had forgotten…
Jiang Qianyu was furious.
It was Song Xuyi who had claimed they were friends.
After being saved by Song Xuyi, Jiang Qianyu had constantly harbored the desire to reconcile with her, to tell her she would no longer deliberately bully her. Yet, perhaps because she had never spoken a gentle word in her entire life, though she had waited for Song Xuyi to have meals together every day on the spaceship, she had never been able to voice her thoughts.
Jiang Qianyu knew she had handled some matters poorly. But in her past, no one had ever taught her how to navigate relationships, and she had never cared before—after all, only the weak needed social graces to maintain connections.
Then, Song Xuyi had been the first to speak up, asking her to treat her as a friend.
Having never had a friend in her life, Jiang Qianyu had been genuinely overjoyed to hear Song Xuyi’s words. That was why she had shared her real name and promised to protect her…
There were some things Jiang Qianyu had kept to herself: Song Xuyi was a miracle to her.
The more she looked at Song Xuyi, the more she found her to her liking. When sleeping in the same room with her at night, she could fall asleep without even needing to listen to the sound of ocean waves.
Jiang Qianyu had wanted to fulfill her promise to protect Song Xuyi. Hoping to give her a surprise, she had secretly enrolled in the military academy, even going so far as to use a catalyzing drug to temporarily force her own transition into the gender she detested most: an Alpha…
She had believed Song Xuyi would stop shutting her out, that she would happily welcome her into the dorm. Instead, Song Xuyi had wanted to push her away to someone else.
Heaven knew how furious Jiang Qianyu had been at that moment!
Yet what angered her most was that, even in her rage, she could not bring herself to harm a single hair on Song Xuyi’s head. She could only sit and seethe in her own silent anger…
She had originally planned to ignore this liar of a girl, but then the liar had voluntarily come over to help tuck in her bedsheets…
How could there be someone in this world who made her feel both so angry, yet so completely helpless?!
Jiang Qianyu grit her teeth and quietly turned over in the darkness. There was no claustrophobically small, enclosed space in the dorm for her to sleep in. Lying on the open dormitory bed, she felt uncomfortable all over, plagued by a restless unease…
But Song Xuyi had likely already fallen asleep, and Jiang Qianyu did not want to wake her…
Biting her lower lip, Jiang Qianyu desperately suppressed her physical discomfort as a flurry of thoughts raced through her mind:
Perhaps she should no longer stay by Song Xuyi’s side. They had never been from the same world, and the reason Song Xuyi had ended up in her current situation was entirely due to Jiang Qianyu’s own drugs. If Song Xuyi ever discovered the truth, the consequences would be catastrophic…
Yet Jiang Qianyu suddenly realized she no longer wished to return to her former life—isolated, lonely, and entirely consumed by research. Blue Star was a completely different world, teeming with life and meticulously organized. Previously, her sole focus had been to overthrow the Alpha-dominated Empire, and she had never imagined that a place like Blue Star could exist within the Empire…
And though she was loath to admit it, she realized that what she was most unwilling to let go of was Song Xuyi.
If Song Xuyi had been the way she was now when they first met, would Jiang Qianyu still have targeted her?
Yet Jiang Qianyu would rather have the current Song Xuyi harbor those delusional, desperate desires to mark her from their first encounter, than have her trying to push her into the arms of another…
…
Never in her life had she experienced a moment of such emotional turmoil.
Jiang Qianyu curled her body up in the dark, clutching her head as she bit down hard on her lower lip. The grievance and violence in her heart grew wildly like weeds. In her daze, she felt as if she had been plunged back into those long, sunless years of seemingly endless darkness, her entire body freezing and rigid…
But at that very instant, Jiang Qianyu heard a soft sigh. A slight rustle came from the adjacent bed, and a hand reached across the gap to tightly clasp her cold, stiff fingers.
“Don’t be afraid, Jiang Qianyu,” Song Xuyi’s sleep-laden voice drifted over from the next bed. Her warm palm shifted, lacing her fingers with Jiang Qianyu’s to hold her hand in a tight clasp. She turned her head toward Jiang Qianyu, her warm breath brushing past the other girl’s ear. “You’re so strong. You can definitely overcome any obstacle…”
Jiang Qianyu wanted to protest, to tell Song Xuyi she was not afraid at all, but the words caught in her throat and refused to come out…
Song Xuyi began to softly ramble as she sang.
Jiang Qianyu wanted to mock her—not a single note of Song Xuyi’s singing was on pitch—yet in her dazed state, the song seemed to possess a mysterious power. Before she knew it, Jiang Qianyu drifted off to sleep…
In her dream, she was still in the sunless depths of the deep sea. Time slipped away noiselessly in the ocean’s abyss, leaving only the endless, repetitive sound of waves crashing above…
Jiang Qianyu grew increasingly despairing, believing she would meet her end in this deep sea.
She knitted her brows, instinctively wanting to wake up, when suddenly, the ocean waters parted, and a brilliant, blinding light poured down from the heavens…
The light was so incredibly bright!
It was just like the day Song Xuyi had carried her out of the starship: the rotation of the stars, the receding wormhole, and the magnificent sight of the nebula shimmering across the horizon—so beautiful it was etched into her soul forever!
The author has something to say:

In the 2D world, my two beautiful cubs are living together and holding hands while they sleep. In the 3D world, my WeChat Moments is flooded with people showing off money transfers and gifts…
And me…
Tonight, I received three waves of lonely frog “gu-gua” teasing! I also have to face training exams tomorrow, and a friend even @-ed me to tell me that I’m the “King of All Singles,” suggesting I start a “lonely frog” business because I’d definitely make a fortune!
