    The Villainous Scientist (5)

Starting From Scratch: Little Marshal x Mad, Dark, Sickly Scientist

Song Xuyi quickly realized what Huang Fu meant—he wanted her to fake her death.

The original host had made far too many enemies in the past. As long as Song Xuyi was alive, she would remain a thorn in their side, bound to face endless attacks and assassination attempts.

And the best way to resolve this situation was for Song Xuyi to “die.”

Once Song Xuyi was “dead,” it would mean everything was over. Her enemies would no longer pursue her, and for Song Xuyi herself, it would be a fresh start.

“Thank you, Uncle Huang,” Song Xuyi said, thanking Huang Fu with sincere gratitude.

Song Xuyi had initially thought she would have to pass an assessment before the people of Blue Star would accept her. Now, it seemed that wasn’t the case at all; Huang Fu had already planned everything the moment she boarded this spaceship…

No wonder the spaceship they had originally agreed upon was suddenly switched to such a battered vessel. This ship was destined to be blown up anyway.

“There’s no need for such politeness,” Huang Fu accepted her gratitude warmly. With a smile, he handed her a cup of tea, clearly settled in for a long, heart-to-heart talk. “No matter what, you’re your mother’s child. She sacrificed her entire life for Blue Star. Now that you want to return home, Blue Star naturally won’t abandon you—”

“But at the same time, you should thank yourself even more.” Huang Fu’s tone was filled with admiration. “Originally, we planned to keep you under semi-confinement in some random place once you reached Blue Star. After all, the rumors claimed you were short-sighted, unsociable, and brutal—someone highly likely to bring disaster to Blue Star… However, after interacting with you, we’ve found you’re completely different from the rumors. That’s why we gave you the assessment task…”

“You seized the opportunity and even displayed incredible talent and wisdom. On Blue Star, there’s a military branch practically tailor-made for you. Once you join, you’ll undoubtedly shine brilliantly, perhaps even surpassing your past self…”

Although the original host in Song Xuyi’s memories was brutal, her strength was indisputably formidable. As an S-grade Alpha, she was practically an unstoppable force on the battlefield, holding the line against ten thousand men. Song Xuyi couldn’t imagine any way she could become even more powerful than her past self…

After chatting for a while, Song Xuyi also came to understand that Blue Star had its own unique way of survival; it wasn’t the weak, backward planet everyone imagined. Huang Fu’s conversation with her was actually an invitation for her to join their military.

Song Xuyi felt that Huang Fu’s words might be slightly exaggerated, yet she was still highly tempted. After all, her current task was extremely difficult, involving the succession of the Empire’s imperial family, and she desperately needed powerful backing.

With one side eager to recruit and the other in need of strength, the two of them got along famously. Huang Fu kept things a bit mysterious, refusing to tell Song Xuyi what Blue Star’s secret weapon actually was. He only told her to see it for herself, promising she would find a pleasant surprise once they arrived on Blue Star.

As they finished their tea, their conversation drew to a close. Huang Fu handed Song Xuyi several ordinary-looking black badges, telling her to distribute them to the people she trusted, and explained their purpose:

There were spies on the ship, and Huang Fu had already identified them. Once they passed through the wormhole, only those holding a badge would be awakened by the ship’s system robots. These people would have ten minutes to transfer to the other spaceship. Meanwhile, under the system’s control, the old spaceship would carry the unawakened passengers back into the wormhole and crash into an asteroid…

Every spaceship was equipped with a specific black box to record its location. Once the ship collided with an asteroid, the accident data would immediately be transmitted back to the Empire. Since time immemorial, no one who met with an accident inside a wormhole had ever emerged alive, and everyone aboard the ship would be declared dead.

“It’s quite strange. The suspicious Emperor actually didn’t send anyone to spy on you directly…”

“Two of the old servants by your side are long-time spies, while the backgrounds of the others are relatively clean.” Huang Fu told Song Xuyi the names of these two individuals, hesitated for a moment, and gave her another badge. “And then there’s that beloved Omega of yours. She actually married you in someone else’s place. Oddly enough, no matter how we search, we can’t find any trace of her background. She seems to have appeared out of thin air, with her earliest appearance being in a sea region on Imperial Star. She was rescued on the beach by an Omega named Zhou Sui. Later, when Zhou Sui was captured, the Emperor originally intended to bestow Zhou Sui upon you, but she secretly let Zhou Sui escape and took his place to marry you…”

Song Xuyi never expected that Jiang Qianyu would actually know the male lead, Zhou Sui, and that their relationship seemed so deep…

This was truly beyond her expectations.

“This Omega of yours might be far more formidable than you imagine,” Huang Fu chose his words carefully, studying Song Xuyi’s expression. “But it’s not our place to interfere in your personal matters. Besides, you’re the one who has spent the most time with her. How you choose to handle this is entirely up to you…”

Song Xuyi went downstairs carrying the badges.

She first found excuses to meet privately with the servants who had clean backgrounds and handed them the badges. These servants had undergone military-style training under the original host; without needing any explanation from Song Xuyi, they hid the badges close to their bodies and promised not to let anyone else see them.

Finally, Song Xuyi returned to her room with the remaining badge.

Song Xuyi returned early, and Jiang Qianyu had not yet gone to sleep. Wrapped in a blanket, Jiang Qianyu sat by the window, silently gazing at the space outside.

Song Xuyi didn’t understand why Jiang Qianyu loved looking at space so much, never seeming to tire of it even after all this time.

Clenching the badge in her hand, she frowned slightly, unsure of how she should give it to Jiang Qianyu.

The System offered a suggestion: “How about you give it to her as a gift?”

“How’s this badge supposed to count as a gift?” Song Xuyi frowned even deeper. “Besides, the original host gave her so many precious things before, and Jiang Qianyu didn’t even spare them a glance…”

The System let out a melancholy sigh. “Then how about… just don’t give it to her at all!”

“If she’s gone, no one will overthrow the Emperor. Then the female lead, Zhao Man, won’t die in battle either. Maybe your task will be completed just like that…”

“How could it be that simple?” Song Xuyi bowed her head and spoke in a soft voice. “Even if one Jiang Qianyu falls, countless other Jiang Qianyus will rise. The one overthrowing the Emperor isn’t actually Jiang Qianyu, but the millions of Omegas and Betas standing behind her…”

The System only half-understood, but it realized that Song Xuyi still wanted to save Jiang Qianyu’s life. “Then what do you plan to do?”

Song Xuyi pursed her lips, shifting her gaze toward the hibernation pod where Jiang Qianyu slept at night, and narrowed her eyes.

“Attention all cabins, attention all cabins. The spaceship will arrive at the wormhole in half an hour. Please enter your hibernation pods as soon as possible…”

The robotic, mechanical broadcast echoed in every room of the spaceship.

Song Xuyi climbed into her hibernation pod. Before closing the pod door, she glanced outside. Jiang Qianyu had already entered her own hibernation pod, and its door was slowly shutting…

Song Xuyi let out a sigh of relief. Thinking of the badge she had stuffed under Jiang Qianyu’s pillow, she closed her eyes in peace…

Huang Fu’s plan involved too many moving parts, so Song Xuyi couldn’t explain it to Jiang Qianyu directly and had no choice but to resort to this method.

She had no idea that shortly after she closed her eyes—at the very instant the door of Jiang Qianyu’s hibernation pod was about to seal shut—Jiang Qianyu suddenly opened her eyes. Frowning, she pulled an object out from under her pillow. She cast an inscrutable look at Song Xuyi’s hibernation pod, hesitated for a moment, and ultimately tossed the object right outside the cabin door…

Remaining asleep inside a hibernation pod could reduce the body’s energy consumption. During the two-day voyage through the wormhole, Song Xuyi had a long dream. She seemed to… dream of her own memories once again.

It was a memory that was both happy and painful.

Song Xuyi saw a young girl. Originally, the girl had a peaceful and beautiful family with parents who doted on her deeply, but when she turned nine years old, everything came to a sudden halt…

Her parents died in a car crash. Unable to bear the shock, her grandfather suffered a heart attack; after lingering on a sickbed and exhausting the family’s fortunes, he too passed away. From then on, only her grandmother was left to raise Song Xuyi.

Every year, Song Xuyi’s grandmother would take her to the cliff where her parents had their accident to pay their respects. When Song Xuyi was fifteen, her grandmother fell ill, so she went to the cliffside alone. The weather was gloomy, threatening to pour rain. Just as Song Xuyi finished burning the paper money1 and was preparing to head back, she noticed a blood-stained hand climbing up over the edge of the cliff…

The dream ended abruptly at this point.

As if struck by a sudden jolt of electricity, Song Xuyi felt a wave of soreness wash over her entire body. Accompanied by the ship’s system announcement, “Pod door opening. Please leave the spaceship as soon as possible…” she opened her eyes to find the pod door above her gradually sliding open…

Remembering she only had ten minutes, Song Xuyi scrambled out of the hibernation pod. But just as she was about to bolt out the door, she suddenly froze…

—Jiang Qianyu’s pod door was still shut.

    What had happened?

Frowning, Song Xuyi rushed to Jiang Qianyu’s hibernation pod. Through the translucent glass, Jiang Qianyu was sleeping with absolute serenity, looking just like a princess in a fairy tale…

And on the floor right beside the hibernation pod lay a discarded black badge…

Her heart sank. She hurriedly ran over to manually trigger the switch on the hibernation pod.

The pod door slowly slid open, but no matter how many times Song Xuyi called her name, Jiang Qianyu did not wake up…

With time growing increasingly short, Song Xuyi grit her teeth. She hoisted Jiang Qianyu onto her back and sprinted toward the deck—

Jiang Qianyu wasn’t heavy. If it had been the original host, she could have easily picked her up with a single hand. But now, she was Song Xuyi, who had transitioned into an Omega…

The passage between the two spaceships was located on the first floor. Everyone else had already crossed over to the opposing vessel, leaving Song Xuyi as the only conscious person remaining on this ship.

The ticking sound overhead felt like a death knell. Covered in sweat, Song Xuyi ran forward with all her might. The only sound echoing in the vast space was the labored, rhythmic thud thud of her heavy footsteps.

This thud thud sounded like trembling drumbeats, hammering heavily against her eardrums. It even pierced through the persistent, echoing sound of ocean waves in her dreams, waking the sleeping Jiang Qianyu…

Jiang Qianyu opened her eyes. In the distance, a brilliant star radiated its ancient light, casting an orange-gold glow over the pitch-black hair of the person carrying her. Strands of hair brushed against her face, feeling slightly itchy. The faint, sweet scent of citrus pheromones lingered around her—a scent she had long grown accustomed to over this past period…

Gazing at the majestic, beautiful new spaceship not far ahead, Jiang Qianyu pieced together the entire situation in an instant.

She had originally thought that the badge slipped into her hibernation pod was a trap by Song Xuyi to frame her…

Jiang Qianyu’s eyes held a complex emotion as she stared at the sweat on Song Xuyi’s cheek, and she pursed her lips.

No one knew that Jiang Qianyu actually loved the scent of citrus pheromones.

At first, Jiang Qianyu had done it on purpose; she wanted to make this once-arrogant Alpha experience the humiliation of being an Omega. Later on, however, other feelings had gradually mingled in. She had grown to like the way Song Xuyi looked when she bullied her—her face flushed, her eyes welling with tears, her body trembling on the verge of crying—and she wanted to make her release even more pheromones…

It was a pleasure entirely different from conducting research.

Yet she knew that Song Xuyi had been unhappy when she semi-forced her to undergo research and observation.

Why had Song Xuyi saved her?

And in that brief moment of distraction, Song Xuyi finally ran across the passage.

Accompanied by ragged pant pant gasps, Song Xuyi ran onto the new spaceship. Almost at the exact instant she stepped onto the deck, a colossal roar resounded behind her. The passage snapped down the middle. The abandoned spaceship—dragging the broken passage and carrying a whole ship of people about to “die”—plunged rapidly toward the depths of the wormhole like a bird with only a single wing, destined to collide and erupt into brilliant, dazzling sparks…

And a new life, amidst the celebratory glow of such brilliant sparks, began to unfold…
