Miss Forensics – Chapter 138.2

The end of a blue duckweed (6)

Jingzhe smiled, with a backpack on his back. “I’m going back to Boston to say goodbye.”

After Lin Yan had her accident, she didn’t have the chance to see him again, so naturally she wouldn’t ask him to return the mechanical stick to Song Yuhang.

She just assumed he had gone into hiding. So, who ordered him to do this?

It’s as if something flashed through her mind.

Lin Yan took two steps back, looking somewhat incredulous. “You…”

Jingzhe nodded, took off the backpack on his back, and reached into the outer pocket to take out a USB flash drive, handing it to her.

“Mr. Lin asked me to give this to you.”

Lin Yan gritted her teeth as she looked at the pitch-black USB drive. “Are you his person?”

At this point, there was nothing for Jingzhe to hide.

“Yes.”

“Aren’t you afraid I’ll kill you?!” Lin Yan suddenly approached, grabbing his collar and lowering her voice as she roared.

Jingzhe gently brushed away her hand, prying open the hand clenched into a fist, placing the USB drive inside, and then closing it into a fist again.

“You won’t. Everything you want to know is inside.”

Jingzhe stepped back a few paces and put on a duckbill cap.

“Mr. Lin said that when the time comes, when the Supreme Lord has died and you have found your own place to settle, then this secret will be passed on to you.”

Lin Yan suddenly understood his meaning.

This was a belated farewell, the moment when Lin Youyuan should truly leave.

When she was young, she had countless times wanted to break free from this family, from his shackles, but never had she felt such a strong reluctance.

Even if she didn’t want to admit it, her father would no longer offer her any protection.

Since the thing had already been delivered, it was time for Jingzhe to leave too.

He turned and left. “Miss, my mission is also over. Please take care in the days to come.”

Lin Yan held the USB drive, her eyes slightly reddened. “Will we meet again?”

A faint smile curved Jingzhe’s lips. “We will, in the streets of Boston, the grand cathedral of Florence, or on some fishing boat in the Gulf of Mexico.”

“As long as we’re in this world, we’ll meet again eventually.”

Lin Yan pondered over his words, finally a hint of a smile curved her lips as she watched his departing figure.

“Hey, if things don’t work out for you, come back and be my bodyguard.”

Jingzhe waved without looking back, jumped onto a speedboat, and vanished into the azure sea.

“Taste this, it’s delicious.”

Song Yuhang was chatting with several colleagues when another group of waiters in Western-style vests approached with dishes.

The dishes prepared for the wedding were all carefully selected by Lin Yan, covering various cuisines from ancient to modern times, both domestic and international.

Several plates were set down, obviously featuring delicate Cantonese cuisine.

Song Yuhang was taken aback, and the leading waiter bowed slightly. “Please enjoy.”

The voice sounded somewhat familiar.

Song Yuhang stared at his profile, and in a flash, something struck her mind. She abruptly set down her wine glass, grabbed his shoulder, “Guo…”

The surrounding crowd was bustling, with colorful lights and wine.

She was slightly excited, restraining herself, lowering her voice, “You’re not dead?!”

Guo Xiaoguang stared at her face for a long time, then looked her up and down, finally recognizing her true identity through the heavy makeup and foundation.

A surge of uncontrollable excitement washed over his face: “Officer Song!”

Taking another look at the wedding venue, he noticed the red silk flower pinned to her chest, suddenly realizing.

“Congratulations, congratulations!”

A hint of a smile appeared on Song Yuhang’s lips. She glanced around and gestured for him to follow.

“Over here.”

The two of them went up to the second floor of the hotel, standing by the railing, gazing out at the sea level. In the distance, faint sounds of ship whistles could be heard as ships passed by, with the lighthouse and the moon hanging in the sky together.

Song Yuhang: “I always thought…”

Guo Xiaoguang gave a bitter smile. “After we parted ways, my mother and I were ambushed. At that time, I thought it was the end for me too.”

A hint of doubt flickered in Song Yuhang’s eyes.

She and Lin Yan had always believed that Zhao Junfeng didn’t want the Chu Nan case to be reopened, so they had to eliminate all those who knew about it at the time.

Guo Xiaoguang and his mother were just one of them. Otherwise, how else could one explain why both she and Lin Yan had been attacked multiple times?

Driven to madness to this extent, even though Zhao Junfeng was dead, she still couldn’t forgive him for what he had done.

Guo Xiaoguang continued, “But those people just locked us in a warehouse, served us good food and drink, and after spending a day and a night there, we were released.”

He still felt grateful when he recalled that scene.

When the sunlight shone into the dilapidated warehouse, dust swirled in.

Guo Xiaoguang instinctively raised his elbow to shield himself, and the firm footsteps stopped in front of him.

The person reached out to him, “Guo Xiaoguang, get up, you can leave now.”

He stood against the light, unable to see the person’s face clearly.

Guo Xiaoguang was momentarily stunned, and the person, seeing him hesitate, took out a letter from his pocket and stuffed it into his hand.

“Take it, go to the nearest police station. You can’t use the name Guo Xiaoguang anymore. After changing your registration, take your mother and leave Binhai Province. Don’t come back.”

When he came to his senses and chased after him, the person had already gone far away.

Guo Xiaoguang shook his name tag, which bore the name of the hotel where he worked, followed by his name and position.

He had indeed changed his name, and now he was called Guo Yi.

“After my dad’s incident, for the sake of my schooling, my mom had also gone to the police station several times to request a name change, but each time she was sent back with excuses. Who would have thought it would be so easy this time…”

Upon hearing this, Sonmg Yuhang’s eyes reddened slightly, and she turned away, leaning on the railing.

Guo Xiaoguang stopped. “Officer Song, what’s wrong with you?”

Song Yuhang forced a smile. “It’s nothing. Did that person at the end tell you his name?”

(If you're not reading on littlepandatranslations.com, it means this has been stolen)

Guo Xiaoguang thought for a moment.

After he chased the man out of the factory and finally caught up with him, he repeatedly begged him to tell his name so he could repay him in the future.

The person under the duckbill cap revealed a tuft of white hair and finally turned around slowly. “My surname is Zhao. There’s no need for repayment. It was me… I’m sorry for what happened to you.”

The last half of his sentence was ambiguous.

Guo Xiaoguang didn’t hear clearly. By the time he wanted to ask again, the old man had already opened the door of a car parked by the roadside and got in.

The car quickly drove away from his sight, and he couldn’t even remember the license plate number.

Guo Xiaoguang kept talking incessantly, perhaps because he was influenced by the festive atmosphere, or because he had seen his lifesaver. The man’s face was full of joy and excitement.

“It’s thanks to the elder surnamed Zhao that I was able to turn over a new leaf and even enter a large hotel as an apprentice with my skills.”

“At that time, the head chef brought us over to cook, saying it was a wedding banquet. I didn’t pay much attention, but I didn’t expect it to be you and…”

“Anyway, congratulations, congratulations. Lovers finally become family!”

“Also, thanks to your and Dr. Lin’s blessings, my father was able to clear his name. We saw the news. My mother was so excited that she threw away her crutches and took a few steps. She said if she could see you two again, she would definitely kowtow to you.”

He knew these two didn’t lack money, and Lin Yan had even helped them before. Looking at the lively and harmonious atmosphere around him, Guo Xiaoguang licked his lips excitedly.

“So, later I’ll go to the kitchen and make a few signature dishes. It’s free, just consider it my heartfelt gratitude, a treat for you to enjoy.”

Song Yuhang leaned her elbows on the railing, her shoulders shaking violently, tears silently streaming down her face.

Guo Xiaoguang finally noticed something amiss. “What’s wrong with you?”

Song Yuhang waved her hand repeatedly, choking back tears. “N-nothing, I’m just… happy.”

Guo Xiaoguang finally caught on and felt a hint of regret. “Do you know that elder surnamed Zhao?”

Song Yuhang shook her head. “I don’t.”

Guo Xiaoguang’s eyes dimmed slightly. “He’s really a good person. I was hoping that one day I could repay his kindness in person.”

Song Yuhang smiled but remained noncommittal.

That night, she never told him who was responsible for his father’s wrongful imprisonment.

Not that she couldn’t, but because she couldn’t bear to.

(If you're not reading on littlepandatranslations.com, it means this has been stolen)

There are too many cruel things in this world. Let his heart keep its last piece of purity.

If time could turn back, Song Yuhang also wished that Zhao Junfeng would forever remain the Zhao Junfeng in her heart, a figure akin to both a mentor and a friend, as well as a fatherly presence, and also the good man in Guo Xiaoguang’s eyes.

Unfortunately, the time had passed, and he would ultimately have to pay the price for his actions. Otherwise, how could the spirits be comforted? How could the lonely souls be comforted? How could the mad be comforted? How could those who carried pain and still chose to live on be comforted?

After Guo Xiaoguang left, Song Yuhang stood alone by the railing, blowing the sea breeze for a long time.

Until someone tapped her shoulder and handed her a glass of wine.

Feng Jianguo was still wearing the same clothes he had on when taking photos. Song Yuhang noticed the silver olive branch wrapped around half of the national emblem on his epaulettes, indicating his rank as Deputy Chief Police Inspector.

She raised her champagne glass and clinked it with his. “Congratulations.”

Feng Jianguo smiled and leaned on the railing. “Where does the joy come from? It’s just about cleaning up the mess. If there’s time, I’d rather go back and spend more time with my granddaughter.”

Song Yuhang also smiled, her eyes still red. “I know you. You may say you’re unwilling, but you’ll still contribute. You deserve this position, and the police officers and ordinary people below can rest assured.”

Feng Jianguo chuckled, not touching the wine in his glass, just holding it.

“A little love affair has made you so eloquent.”

Song Yuhang’s lips finally curled into a slight smile as she took a sip of whisky, leaning on the railing and letting the sea breeze tousle her hair.

Feng Jianguo turned around to look at her. “It’s been almost a year. How long do you plan to stay idle?”

Song Yuhang smiled, turned around, and leaned on the railing, looking at the brightly lit city skyline on the distant opposite coast without answering.

Feng Jianguo handed her a sealed document. “Give me your answer when you’ve made up your mind.”

Song Yuhang lowered her eyes and looked at the sealed part of the document, stamped with an official seal.

She was all too familiar with this — it was a transfer letter from the provincial headquarters.

Song Yuhang was slightly surprised. “Feng—”

Feng Jianguo paused his steps. “I don’t know what you’re thinking, whether you want to come back to work or give up this profession to live an ordinary life. But I believe that we police officers are people who walk in the dark, like the stars in the sky, standing on the roadside lamps.”

“The more people like us, the more the sparks gather into a vast starry river, and eventually, light will drive away the darkness. What do you think?”

Song Yuhang tightened her grip on the transfer letter, nodding slightly. “Thank you, I will consider it carefully.”

Feng Jianguo’s lips curled into a smile as he walked away briskly.

“Alright, on such a joyous day, go and spend time with your wife.”
