Little Alpaca – Chapter 209
by Little PandaVolume 7: Extras
Extra 1
Last night, You Yan bullied her.
In the Demon Realm, there was no one who did not fear You Yan. This Demon Lord was danger incarnate. It was said that those who provoked her rarely left behind an intact corpse; they often died without even knowing how.
All Three Realms knew that this Demon Lord was born with the body of a god and a demon. On the day of the Queen Mother of the West’s birthday celebration, she had escaped from the clutches of countless gods and immortals. After arriving in the Demon Realm, she had climbed a mountain of corpses and a sea of blood to reach the pinnacle of power she held today.
This Demon Lord was about three thousand years old—practically a youth by the standards of long-lived gods and demons. Yet this young woman, in the few hundred years she had ruled the Demon Realm, had become a being that all Three Realms regarded with awe and terror.
Everyone said that nothing this Demon Lord did would be surprising.
And then, the Demon Lord did something that surprised everyone, yet no one dared to raise a single objection.
Demon Lord You Yan, a woman, was to marry a little yao who was also a woman. According to rumor, this little yao’s cultivation base was exceedingly low, and her looks could at best be described as pure and pleasant. There was nothing outstanding about her. She looked like a sheep yao whose form had grown crooked during cultivation. Even setting gender aside, she was in no way a match for the powerful and glamorous Demon Lord.
But this most venomous Qinyuan Bird in the Three Realms was stubbornly insistent on marrying a little yao as weak as a lamb. On the eve of the wedding, she announced it to the Three Realms, and on the day itself, she invited the Yao God and the clan leaders of the Demon Realm to a grand banquet.
Not only that, but the Heavenly Realm, which had been at odds with the Demon Realm for over ten thousand years, sent three wedding gifts via the Yao God.
The first was the power of the Flower Goddess, housed in a spirit pearl. Using the Fusang branches that had somehow grown all over the Demon Realm, it gifted the realm a hundred-li sea of rhododendrons that would bloom for ten days without wilting. The second was ten Jinwu feathers, which, when hung, could transform into a warm sun, illuminating a hundred-li radius. Though it was a far cry from the sun of the Mortal Realm that could light up the whole world, it was not so scorching as to harm the naturally yin-cold bodies of the demon race, and it could even help mortal plants grow. The third was a promise from the Heavenly Realm: for the next thousand, ten thousand years, as long as the demon race no longer brought chaos to the Mortal Realm, the Mortal Realm would never again bar their entry. This meant that any demon whose cultivation base could withstand the spiritual qi of the mortal world was free to enter and exit, provided they did not harm people or cause trouble.
Such lavish gifts arriving on the wedding day undoubtedly gave the little yao an immense amount of face.
Overnight, that little yao’s name, along with the news of the wedding, spread throughout the Three Realms.
And that was her—Yi Qiu. In the eyes of the world, a weak, unremarkable little alpaca yao who had somehow climbed from the position of a spiritual pet to the Demon Lord’s wife.
If someone were to ask her, “How on earth did you win over the Demon Lord?”
She thought she would probably answer, “Maybe it was through my harmless salted fish instincts, and a bit of the delicateness that a spiritual pet shouldn’t have, but a person might…”
She would never admit it was actually because she was dumb. That bird woman had treated her as a temporary plaything from the very beginning, messing with her back and forth for ages until she awakened some strange new proclivities. Even when she was bound by a whip, kicked out of bed, had her ears pulled, her butt kicked, and even had her skull pried open in a dream, she still took it with relish.
In truth, she’d had plenty of complaints about You Yan, but in the end, she realized that those minor dissatisfactions were utterly insignificant compared to being able to spend a lifetime with her.
You Yan was not a gentle person—at least, not a gentle bird. But even though You Yan was so ungentle, she gave what little gentleness she possessed all to her. That gentleness was clumsy and childish, yet it left Yi Qiu with no reason to resist.
That bird woman was just that domineering. Even her gentleness was domineering…
It was a good thing the wretched, now-vanished System didn’t have the ability to send the bird woman to the modern society she grew up in via that half-strand of life soul. Otherwise, with the bird woman’s personality, she would probably cause a massive uproar in a world where information spread so quickly.
As Yi Qiu thought this, she sighed with a flood of emotion, habitually stretched her back, and casually slapped her hand down on the right side of the bed.
You Yan had always been a light sleeper. No matter when or where, the slightest sound would wake her. In the past, whenever Yi Qiu opened her eyes, You Yan would no longer be beside her. Yi Qiu was thoroughly used to the emptiness next to her when she stretched.
But this time, her hand casually slapped against a hard, rough wall.
This was not a familiar sensation.
Yi Qiu’s drowsy eyes snapped open. Before her was a faded yellow wallpaper that was once incredibly familiar but now felt deeply strange.
This was the wallpaper in her rental apartment. The landlord wouldn’t replace it, and it was so old it had cracked and curled at the edges.
She stared blankly at the ceiling. Yes, that was the old chandelier that originally had eight lampshades but now only had two working bulbs. It hung high up, and since she was short, it was hard to clean. It was filthy inside and out. Every time a bulb burned out and she had to change it, she’d get a handful of dust. She was too cheap to hire someone to clean, always thinking she might move out soon anyway, so there was no need to clean such nooks and crannies for that stingy landlord.
How am I here?!
Yi Qiu shot up with a start. The moment she sat up, she distinctly felt her body was much heavier.
It wasn’t really heavier, just that compared to a yao’s body, this human form was a bit unwieldy. Especially now, with the air conditioner off, the summer heat washed over her, drenching her in sweat as if she’d just been fished out of water.
“You Yan!” Yi Qiu subconsciously cried out the name in her heart. In that instant, an endless panic nearly drowned her, and her eyes reddened almost immediately.
“What are you crying for?”
A familiar voice came from the kitchen, and Yi Qiu let out a huge sigh of relief.
She didn’t even have time to put on her slippers before she ran to the kitchen doorway, staring with wide, dazed, and joyous eyes for a long time.
You Yan was right in front of her, standing in the somewhat messy kitchen. On the counter, by a small pot, lay the packaging from some leftover snail rice noodles.1 The unused white vinegar inside, mixed with a few dregs of sour bamboo shoots, gave off an unpleasant sour smell.
You Yan turned to look at her and frowned. Her long hair was loose over her shoulders, and her red robes trailed on the floor, completely out of place with the “scenery.”
Yi Qiu scratched her head, only then realizing she was just wearing a wrinkled slip dress. It was clinging to her damply from the sweat, which made her suck in a sharp breath. She frowned, mirroring You Yan.
She didn’t remember ever being this sloppy. What was going on? This was too weird!
Help, why am I back in this world? Why is You Yan here with me? And why did You Yan have to witness such a mortifying scene?
Most importantly, would You Yan even recognize her in this world’s body?
As Yi Qiu thought this, she subconsciously took two steps back under You Yan’s gaze, then two more, before scurrying into the bathroom.
The mirror over the sink reflected her old appearance, so plain she’d probably turn invisible if thrown into a crowd.
She didn’t know if it was the weekend, so following the principle of “no going out, no washing hair,” her hair was a little greasy.
With a miserable look on her face, Yi Qiu cleaned herself up in the bathroom. Even though she knew this appearance, no matter how much she tidied it, was a far cry from her alpaca form, she still wanted to show her best side to You Yan.
By the time she had dried her hair, put on some light makeup, and unlocked the door, timidly poking her head out of the bathroom, You Yan had already moved her computer chair to the balcony. The curtains were wide open, and she was staring out the window, lost in thought.
“You Yan, I…”
“What is this place?” You Yan asked, turning around. “Your home?”
Yi Qiu froze for a moment. Seeing that You Yan showed no sign of not recognizing her, she breathed a sigh of relief. She found her phone by the bed and, head full of questions, cautiously approached.
You Yan didn’t resist her approach, which made Yi Qiu much bolder. She leaned her back against the computer desk, thought for a moment, then pursed her lips and said, “This is my home. I rent this place. If… if you don’t like it, if you can’t get used to it, I can find another one. Provided, provided I can afford it…”
As she spoke, Yi Qiu glanced down at her phone, as if to check whether the eight-million-plus reward the System had promised had arrived.
With her current salary, she thought, she couldn’t save up over eight million even if she didn’t eat or drink for her entire life. If that money really came through, not only could she get her parents a new house, but she could also pick a small city with low housing prices to settle down in and give You Yan a better life in this world.
You Yan was the Demon Lord of the Demon Realm, after all, used to a life of luxury. If she really couldn’t go back, she couldn’t just make do with a poor salted fish like her.
But, of course, the money hadn’t arrived.
That trash System! It actually caught a white wolf with bare hands,2 tricking me into working for free for so long!
I’m going to call the cops!
Just as Yi Qiu was agonizing, she heard You Yan say a single word. “You.”
“Huh? Me?”
“Is this how you usually dress?”
“…Mmph.”
What was bound to happen, happened. As expected, the Demon Lord found her attire harming the wind and corrupting the customs.3
But it was the middle of summer, and she didn’t have any demonic power to protect her. How else was she supposed to dress? Yi Qiu pouted, walked to her wardrobe, and pulled out a long-sleeved shirt and pants. She changed quickly behind the wardrobe door, then hurriedly turned on the air conditioner and sat down obediently on the edge of the bed, muttering under her breath.
“I’m hot. It’s so hot today. No one’s going to see me if I dress a little cooler at home… Besides, look downstairs. Lots of people dress like this. It’s just how it is here…”
“…Strange place,” You Yan said, glancing at the cooling air conditioner with a flicker of curiosity in her eyes. The next second, her gaze fell back on Yi Qiu, sweeping her up and down before she said flatly, “You really do have the body of a mortal.”
“What else? Why would I lie to you?” Yi Qiu said, annoyed. “I just read a novel and somehow transmigrated into your world. I wasn’t planning on coming back, but I don’t know how I suddenly did… You Yan, how did you get here?”
You Yan was silent for a moment before saying, “I don’t know.”
Yi Qiu was taken aback. “You don’t know?”
You Yan replied, “I don’t know. I opened my eyes, and I was here.”
Yi Qiu was speechless and couldn’t utter a word for a long time.
She was quiet for a while before her stomach rumbled involuntarily. Hearing the sound, You Yan frowned again. “I was going to make you something to eat, but I couldn’t find any firewood.”
“Ah, you don’t need firewood. I’ll do it, I’ll cook for you!” Yi Qiu said, quickly getting up and running into the kitchen. She tidied up the messy cabinets, then simply boiled two bowls of egg noodles and brought them to You Yan.
When she came out, You Yan was sitting on the balcony railing, her legs dangling in the air. The long hem of her robes fluttered in the wind under the scorching sun. She looked completely detached, as if she might jump at any moment.
Yi Qiu was scared to death. She quickly put down the noodle bowls, rushed forward, and yelled as she dragged You Yan back.
You Yan frowned. “The fall wouldn’t kill me.”
Yi Qiu couldn’t help but grit her teeth. “Of course I know it wouldn’t kill you! I’m afraid someone will take a picture of you and you’ll end up trending with the keywords ‘Woman in Hanfu4 Jumps Off Building in Suicide Attempt,’ okay?!”
Such a worry was not unfounded. Her apartment was on a high floor!
Information spread so fast in modern society. A woman with long, dark red hair, dressed in ancient red robes, suddenly sitting on the railing of an eleventh-floor balcony in broad daylight—if someone filmed that, wouldn’t it go viral in minutes?
But she understood this logic, and You Yan did not. To her, it was just finding a comfortable place to sit. But she’d been yelled at by Yi Qiu for it. Who could tolerate that?
The moment Yi Qiu saw You Yan’s expression shift, she immediately lost her nerve. In just a few seconds, her tone had softened by several degrees. Coddling her like a little princess, she led You Yan back into the room, pushed the computer chair to the desk where the noodle bowls were, made a “please, be my guest” gesture, and smiled. “Come eat something first!”
“Here?” A trace of disbelief flashed in You Yan’s eyes.
The computer desk was tiny. After placing a laptop on it, the remaining space was just enough for one large bowl. Yi Qiu usually ate her meals there, making do. After all, her studio apartment was pitifully small, with every room cramped. There was no separate place for a dining table.
Yi Qiu pouted. “Just make do for now. It’s… marry a chicken, follow the chicken; marry a dog, follow the dog.5 Back on Kunlun, the conditions you gave me were much worse than this.” As she spoke, she saw You Yan open her mouth and quickly cut her off before she could speak. “You can’t blame me for this. I’m already working hard, going to work every day, but I just don’t have any money! If I had money, I’d want to live in a big house and eat delicious food every day too! I… I swear, now that you’re here, I’ll take full responsibility. I’ll work even harder from now on, and I definitely won’t let you suffer, okay?”
“Who needs you to support me?”
“If I don’t support you, are you going to support me?”
“Why not?”
“This isn’t your world anymore, Demon Lord!” Yi Qiu said, picking up her own bowl of noodles. She spoke as she ate. “After we finish, I need to tell you about this world, so you don’t accidentally cause some huge trouble…”
In that instant, You Yan’s eyes were filled with a mixture of surprise and grievance, as if to say—You think I’m trouble?
But some things really couldn’t be compromised on.
After finishing the noodles, Yi Qiu quickly cleaned up the bowls and chopsticks and gave You Yan a rough explanation of the differences between the two worlds. Then she warned her a thousand times over not to leave the apartment alone before she was familiar with this world, to avoid contact with its people, and most importantly, not to use magic, lest she be treated as an anomaly.
After saying all this, Yi Qiu glanced at the time on her phone and realized it wasn’t the weekend. She still had to go to work, and she was already late. Her vision suddenly went dark. Without even time to change, she grabbed her bag and ran out the door, not forgetting to nag You Yan a few more times before she left.
She spent the day in a daze, as if in a dream. She was absent-minded in everything she did, her only thought to get home and see if You Yan had been obedient.
Heaven knew, she was terrified You Yan would run off.
Ending up on some bizarre social media news wasn’t the big deal. Her greatest fear was coming home to find You Yan gone, leaving her all alone in this world again.
Although with her current income, supporting an extra You Yan would be a lot of pressure, she would rather bear that pressure than be separated from You Yan again.
Besides, You Yan was capable, clever, and had all her limbs. Once she got used to this world and found a way to get a legal identity, she would surely have no trouble earning a little money. After all, ever since meeting You Yan, she had come to believe that as long as You Yan was by her side, a life for two was always better than a life for one.
After work, Yi Qiu took the subway and rushed home. The moment she opened the door, she felt as if she’d been struck by five thunders.6
The screen of the wall-mounted television was shattered, with traces of a very familiar spiritual power lingering on it. And the TV wasn’t the only broken appliance. The washing machine in the bathroom had been smashed almost beyond recognition, a total pile of scrap metal…
Yi Qiu’s mouth fell open. Her whole body trembling, she pointed a finger at You Yan.
“You, you… you…”
“You said it would be a big problem if I was discovered,” You Yan said, glancing at the TV, with justice on her side and confidence in her actions.7 “Someone was hiding in there, spying on this place.”
Yi Qiu’s eye twitched. You Yan had probably hit the remote by accident and mistaken the people on TV for intruders…
But smashing the TV was one thing. What did the washing machine ever do wrong?
Yi Qiu gritted her teeth and pointed at the wrecked washing machine in the bathroom. “What about that?”
You Yan said flatly, “It was hostile to me.”
Yi Qiu felt it was getting a little hard to breathe.
That washing machine was indeed very old, and it made a horrible racket every time she turned it on. But no matter how awful it sounded, this washing machine—which didn’t even belong to her—didn’t deserve to die!
The TV, the washing machine—not natural breakdowns, but deliberate destruction. With that stingy landlord’s personality, how much would she have to pay in compensation?
“You Yan!” Yi Qiu felt like she was about to go insane.
She ran her hands through her hair, sinking down against the door in helplessness.
Was this bird woman part dog? A Teddy, a Corgi, a Husky, or an Alaskan Malamute? How could she be so destructive?
Yi Qiu hadn’t even taken off her shoes. She just stared at the text message on her phone showing her bank balance of less than two thousand, and for a moment, she wanted to die.
Just then, her family, who she hadn’t contacted in a long time, started a video call. It startled her so much that she didn’t dare to accept it for a long time.
The call rang again and again, like a summons from the underworld. Even You Yan, standing to the side, cast a curious glance, clearly having never heard such “music” before.
Yi Qiu took a deep breath, smoothed her hair, and answered the call. A deep male voice saying “Qiuqiu” came from the other end. Before she could even respond, her phone was yanked by a spiritual force and brought before You Yan.
“And you are?” her dad’s surprised voice came from the other side of the call. “A friend of Qiuqiu’s?”
“And who are you?” You Yan retorted.
“I’m Qiuqiu’s father. I’m calling today because…”
“Yi Qiu is my wedded wi—”
“You Yan!” Yi Qiu, terrified, rushed forward and slapped the phone onto the bed. She long-pressed the power button, shutting it down amidst her father’s confused questions. She looked at You Yan, completely exasperated. “Could… could you at least give my parents some time to prepare?”
“Why?”
“For… for me. I haven’t been in a relationship all these years. What if they can’t accept it right away…” Yi Qiu said, her confidence faltering.
She truly hadn’t intended to hide You Yan’s existence from her family, nor did she think there was anything shameful about falling in love with a woman. But You Yan’s identity was a bit special. She had wanted to wait, at least until You Yan was familiar with this world and had some financial independence, before coming out to her parents. Otherwise, what if her parents saw You Yan as some idle, good-for-nothing delinquent and refused to accept their relationship, even on pain of death? What would she do then?
Yi Qiu felt like her world had suddenly turned into a complete disaster.
The air conditioner in the room had been turned off at some point, and that sweaty feeling washed over her again. The heaviness of her body made her feel utterly exhausted.
She was still thinking about how to explain things to her parents later when You Yan suddenly pushed her down onto the bed.
“Are you angry with me?”
“No, no… Don’t press down on me, I haven’t even taken off my shoes or changed into my pajamas! The bed will get dirty!”
“Are you angry with me?” You Yan asked again.
Her grip was strong, squeezing Yi Qiu’s wrist tightly. Her face was very close, so close that every breath and heartbeat was clear enough to stir one’s heart.
You Yan was nothing like the You Yan she knew.
This You Yan seemed to carry a bewitching poison that muddled one’s will. Even though she was furious, she couldn’t help herself. Yi Qiu didn’t know why, but she suddenly felt flustered. Her small face, beaded with sweat, was already flushed, and though she wanted to struggle, she couldn’t summon any strength.
Why was this bird woman always so domineering? Why couldn’t she just give in a little!
She closed her eyes, feeling her consciousness grow hazy, yet she couldn’t stop herself from pushing weakly at You Yan a few times.
A low murmur suddenly sounded by her ear, carrying a warm breath that made her ear feel a little damp and itchy.
“Hm? What’s all the fuss?”
What’s all the fuss? Half the house was wrecked, and this bird woman dared to ask her what the fuss was about?!
A surge of anger flared in Yi Qiu, and her mind instantly cleared. She opened her eyes and roared, “You wrecked my home! And you ask me what the fuss is about?! This apartment isn’t mine, I have to pay for the damages! You scared my dad, so now I might not even be able to borrow money from my family! Do you know how much my monthly salary is? How am I supposed to pay for this?! And you, all you know is how to bully me, how to pin me down like this, to do this and that to me, you… you’re horrible!”
She yelled at You Yan in a single torrent, only to be met with a flash of confusion in You Yan’s eyes the next second.
Awkward. After a long, awkward moment, Yi Qiu, still held in You Yan’s arms, subconsciously darted her eyes around.
As far as she could see, there was no more peeling wallpaper, no chandelier with only two bulbs, no broken television, and no single bed that was too cramped for two people.
This was You Yan’s bedchamber. A familiar spiritual power flowed gently all around…
Everything that just happened… was it all just a dream?
That dream was too terrifying. She never thought You Yan could be such a menace in a dream, so much so that she almost died of anger on the spot.
“What did you just say?”
“I…”
“You dreamed about me?” You Yan couldn’t help but smile, pinching Yi Qiu’s chin. “You took me back to your home to meet your parents?”
“N-No, I didn’t!” Yi Qiu quickly denied it.
She saw the red robes discarded at the foot of the bed and remembered her situation.
She and You Yan were married. Just yesterday, they had received so many blessings.
And then last night, You Yan had bullied her.
This bird woman was truly awful, so strong and so good at tormenting people. It left her exhausted, without a shred of energy to get up. All she could do was curl up in You Yan’s arms and have strange dreams—and even in her dreams, she couldn’t escape this feeling of exhaustion!
She refused to let You Yan know that even in her dreams… she was being bullied by You Yan.
That was just too embarrassing!
But You Yan, full of interest, pressed on. “What did you dream about? Tell me.”
Yi Qiu frowned and turned her head away, not wanting to answer, but You Yan held her so tightly she couldn’t escape.
“In your dream, were you also thinking about what happened last night?”
“…” Of course not. At least… at least not entirely. As an ordinary human, the first thing I did when I thought I was back in my original world was seriously consider how to live my life! It’s all You Yan’s fault. You Yan was so awful even in the dream, that’s why it ended up like that!
“You think I bullied you?”
“…” Didn’t you? Last night… wasn’t that bullying me?
As Yi Qiu thought this, a mist formed in her eyes. Her usually clear gaze was now damp, making her look as if she had suffered some great injustice.
You Yan gently brushed the hair from Yi Qiu’s temple, tucking it behind her ear, and asked in a low voice, “You’re not going to blame me for what happened in your dream too, are you? I don’t know anything about it.”
Yi Qiu bit her lip and said nothing. She just propped her hands on You Yan’s shoulders, scooted back a little, and stared at You Yan seriously for a long time. Finally, she lifted her slightly pinned arm, poked You Yan’s cheek with a finger, and muttered, “Leaving the dream aside, you definitely bullied me last night.”
“Did I?”
“You did!”
“How?”
Yi Qiu argued, “You, you said you’d be gentle, but you weren’t gentle at all…”
You Yan pinched Yi Qiu’s flushed cheek. “I was being very gentle.”
Yi Qiu gritted her teeth. “I couldn’t feel it! I told you it hurt, but you ignored me. I struggled, and you just got rougher… Didn’t you see me crying?”
You Yan quietly watched the little alpaca muttering in her arms. The little girl’s voice was soft and delicate, just like her frail body. The slightest bump was a huge deal.
But she just let her complain. Every muttered word that reached her ears put her in an exceptionally good mood.
Yi Qiu complained under her breath for a long time before finally falling silent, but You Yan looked as if she hadn’t heard enough.
“Is that all?”
Yi Qiu’s eye twitched. How can this bird woman still look so unsatisfied while being scolded?
Yi Qiu: “Are you sick?!”
As she said this, she tried to push You Yan away, only to be pulled tightly back into her arms once more.
The next second, You Yan’s hand slipped under the covers and wrapped around Yi Qiu’s waist. She must have left a red mark on her waist last night, because the touch made Yi Qiu flinch instinctively.
“Sorry,” You Yan said without a hint of remorse. She leaned forward and kissed Yi Qiu’s brow, then slid down to the corner of her eye, her earlobe, and finally lifted her chin for a deep kiss.
Yi Qiu instinctively tried to dodge, but a firm hand turned her face back. Her cheeks flushed, she unconsciously complied with the other’s demands until she was almost out of breath. Only then did she twist her head back and let out a small whimper.
The moment You Yan let her go, she clutched the quilt and muttered, “Are you a hooligan?”
“Is that how you see me?” You Yan smiled, once again placing her hand on Yi Qiu’s slender waist. “But the one who was always looking forward to this day… wasn’t that you?”
“Who told you to bully me…” Yi Qiu shrank back instinctively and glared at You Yan with no real force, her face scarlet as if her last veil of modesty had been ripped away.
“You can bully me back. I don’t mind.”
“…Forget it. It’s too tiring,” Yi Qiu said, resting her head on You Yan’s smooth collarbone.
She couldn’t help but think of that infuriating dream and couldn’t resist tallying up the “debts” You Yan knew nothing about.
“In my dream, you wrecked my home and caused me huge losses… You also talked nonsense to my dad. You… you made me angry, and then you wanted to use that method to make me calm down and vent. That kind of behavior is just not right!”
“It seems I’m really not a good person in your heart.”
“Good that you know!”
Yi Qiu huffed, only to realize You Yan was starting again. The sudden movement made her whole body tremble.
“You… you’re not right!”
“Do you have a problem with that?”
“I do!”
“Oh—I’m not listening.”
And just like that, a new life began, starting with being bullied by the bird woman in a different way.
Yi Qiu couldn’t help but think, if she ever had the strength, there would definitely come a day when she’d make this bird woman cry!
