Panda Cub – Chapter 25

Untitled

Before He Ying left, she meticulously peeled all the fruit with skins that she brought, then packed them into a box, covered it with cling film, and put it into the fridge, acting as worried and attentive as an old mother fretting over her child not having anything to eat while she’s away.

Thinking of her persona as a ravishing beauty, yet behind the scenes, she’s all about doing the homely deeds worthy of a devoted wife and good mother.

Jing Dan also took note of her actions, quietly giving her another point of approval in her heart.

However, He Ying had been there for quite some time, so by the time she left, the break was over. Sister Xu and Qiu Shuhuai came to find her to finalize the last details of the program.

“President Jing, we were thinking, how about we open a voting channel for the netizens, allowing them to randomly select and pair up as a CP, and then we would make a donation to education in underdeveloped areas in the name of the CP with the most votes,” Sister Xu said.

Qiu Shuhuai nodded and said, “Right, this will increase audience engagement, and at the same time, it will allow us to contribute to society. I think it’s a pretty good idea.”

Hearing their proposal, Jing Dan turned her gaze towards Qiu Shuhuai. She had heard that she had always been passionate about charitable work, donating almost half of her income to philanthropic causes.

“We can do that. As for the amount to donate…” Jing Dan pondered for a moment before saying, “Let the CPs draw lots, with a minimum of three million and a maximum of ten million. Whatever they draw, that’s the amount we donate.”

Qiu Shuhuai’s face brightened into a smile, agreeing, “That’s great, and we can specifically arrange a little surprise segment to broadcast the drawing process, giving the netizens a sense of participation.”

Jing Dan glanced at Qiu Shuhuai again, recognizing that indeed, having been deeply rooted in this industry for many years, she knew precisely how to tug at the audience’s heartstrings.

“Then let’s do it as you suggest.”

Seeing her agreement, the smile on Qiu Shuhuai’s face deepened a bit more.

Sister Xu is someone who acts decisively and efficiently. Once the matter was settled, she immediately said, “I’ll get on it right now, and I’ll inform the audience about this activity in advance.”

With that, she bustled out of the room.

Watching Sister Xu leave, Qiu Shuhuai smiled helplessly and also got to her feet, saying, “I’ve got nothing else; I’ll take my leave too.”

Jing Dan nodded, watching her departing figure. Yet just as Qiu Shuhuai’s hand was about to touch the doorknob, she couldn’t help but speak up: “How are things between you and my aunt?”

Qiu Shuhuai’s motion halted, her hand already on the doorknob, but she couldn’t press down, her face taking on a hint of bewilderment.

How were things between her and Jing Shiyue?

What could their relationship be?

Was there even a possibility for something to be between them?

With a faint bitterness on her face, she thought of that stubborn woman and felt a sharp pain in her heart.

“We… there’s nothing between us.” Her voice was so soft she thought she hadn’t actually spoken aloud.

Jing Dan frowned, observing her strange demeanor, and couldn’t help but retort, “Are you really nothing? Why do I feel like there’s something odd about the two of you?”

It wasn’t just her; her aunt was also acting peculiar. After meeting Qiu Shuhuai, she had mentioned her to her aunt, but upon hearing the name Qiu Shuhuai, her aunt’s abrupt loss of composure was so striking that she couldn’t help but find it odd.

Both of them, upon hearing the other’s name, showed reactions that were far from ordinary.

The smile on Qiu Shuhuai’s lips carried an increasingly strong taste of bitterness. Both of them acting strange, huh? Perhaps, that person no longer wished to see her.

“President Jing doesn’t need to worry so much; there’s nothing going on between us,” Qiu Shuhuai said with a smile as she turned her head, opened the door, and left.

Staring at the closed door, Jing Dan’s mind was filled with question marks. Does this look like nothing’s wrong to you?

But no one was there to answer her, and this question could only be buried in her heart.

As the online promotion intensified, more and more people became aware of the upcoming program, especially after the full lineup of emotional observers was announced. People even began to speculate about the background of the company behind it, wondering how they managed to get someone like Jiang Yan on board.

The soaring popularity of the program was naturally a welcome development for Jing Dan and her company, but for someone else, it felt like a huge lump of sticky rice cake stuck in the throat, choking her until her complexion turned extremely unsightly.

“How could Jiang Yan agree to be on that show?” Xu Zhihuan stared at the online news, shocked that Jiang Yan would participate in the program!

She had thought that having Qiu Shuhuai on Jing Dan’s side was impressive enough, but now even Jiang Yan had surfaced, seemingly allied with them?

The assistant stood in front of her, head bowed in a somewhat timid manner, shaking their head and saying in a hushed tone, “We don’t really know much either, only that it seems she agreed through Qiu Shuhuai.”

It was a bitter pill for the assistant to swallow. Jiang Yan had won numerous awards big and small, her national recognition was high, and her reputation was uncompromisingly clean with hardly a blemish. They had tried more than once to woo her over but to no avail; she was resolute, like a weight firmly grounded, never joining any company nor participating in any variety shows.

And so, the talent they had put so much effort into for so many years simply turned around and joined a variety show with another company!

Xu Zhihuan’s face darkened, and she couldn’t help but let out a laugh tinged with anger. Very well, as expected, the ones she valued did have some real skills.

“They want to make a romance-themed variety show, do they? We’ll make one too.” Xu Zhihuan chuckled lightly. She was eager to see whether Jing Dan would continue to ignore her this time around.

“Are we really going to do this?” the assistant hesitated.

Xu Zhihuan glanced at him, “Just go and do it, why waste your breath talking about it!”

The assistant’s head drooped even lower, “…Yes.”

Xu Zhihuan walked over to the floor-to-ceiling windows, gazing at the bustling streets below as her red lips curved into a slight smile, yet her eyes were filled with a deep melancholy.

Jing Dan would eventually be hers.
