Ex-Girlfriend – Chapter 100

B U G Arc

Exam God 07

That was the voice of a little girl, and it immediately made Xin Lan and Wan Yan think of the young girl from the house they had stayed in briefly.

Although they still couldn’t understand what she was singing, an uncomfortable feeling crept over them like a festering sore, making them feel uneasy all over.

“Who’s singing?”

Someone shrank back and mumbled.

Xiao An, as if she hadn’t heard, continued to sleep.

Others looked at each other, and Yuanyuan and Huo Xu clearly thought of that little girl, but they didn’t say a word.

They also didn’t know the girl’s identity, but from what the girl herself had said, she seemed rather noble?

At least much more noble than her deceased second uncle.

Xin Lan glanced towards the door and furrowed her brow.

“Did you hear any sounds?”

She asked Wan Yan.

Wan Yan also inclined her ear to listen and nodded.

The others looked puzzled. The song was so obvious; it would be strange not to hear it. Was it really necessary to listen like this?

Xin Lan concentrated, trying to determine where the sound was coming from.

It was a faint sound, almost inaudible if you didn’t listen carefully, especially with the ongoing disturbance from the song outside.

Rustling and crawling, as if insects were moving, and it sounded like insects were fluttering their wings.

Not good!

“Everyone, step out.”

Xin Lan opened the door and shouted, grabbing Xiao An from the bed, and walked out.

Wan Yan followed closely behind. The others hesitated for a moment, but Huo Xu reacted the fastest, grabbing Yuanyuan and leaving.

Seeing the situation, the others quickly squeezed out.

Suddenly, someone let out a sharp scream, prompting everyone to involuntarily turn their heads. What they saw afterward left them deeply disturbed.

In the room, a multitude of insects had appeared at some point, densely packed, making anyone who looked at them feel nauseous.

What was even more terrifying was that someone was walking slowly, and the insects entwined around her feet, crawling all over her body in no time.

She let out cries of distress and calls for help, but the others dared not attempt a rescue, unsure of how to do so.

Those insects, no one knew what they were, had crawled all over the room.

Xin Lan descended the stairs, heading toward the source of the singing.

The others quickly followed, afraid that if they were a step too late, they too would be consumed by the insects.

However, the insects did not follow them down. Xiao An, who had no idea what was happening, was carried by Xin Lan as she led the way, still fast asleep.

When they arrived, there were ten people, but when they descended, there were only eight left.

Two people were left in the sea of insects, and someone covered their mouth and silently shed tears.

People who had been living in peacetime suddenly faced such a cruel life-or-death situation, which would shock anyone, even an ordinary person.

“Xiao An?”

Xin Lan shook the NPC in her hands, but Xiao An didn’t open his eyes, keeping his head bowed.

Wan Yan supported Xiao An’s head, checked his breathing, and nodded to Xin Lan.

As long as he’s still alive, it’s fine.

The singing suddenly stopped, making it impossible to pinpoint the source of the sound.

“What should we do now? Should we go find the village chief?”

Yuanyuan looked at Xin Lan and Wan Yan, and the others also turned their gaze toward the two of them.

“Something’s not right. It feels like they intentionally lured us down here.”

Xin Lan looked around, suspecting it was the work of the so-called treacherous plot.

“I’ll go investigate first, you wait here.”

Wan Yan signaled to Xin Lan and walked toward the door.

Xin Lan placed Xiao An on a chair and contemplated their strategy.

This was only the second test, and they hadn’t been provided with any weapons to deal with the insects. It was impossible for them to be wiped out here; there must be a way.

“Xiao An?”

Xin Lan gently patted Xiao An’s face, but Xiao An remained in a deep slumber.

The outside world was still enveloped in darkness, with no sign of when it would become light.

Wan Yan looked out from the main entrance, seeing nothing but pitch-black darkness.

Suddenly, in the midst of that vast emptiness, a faint light flickered, particularly conspicuous in the darkness of the night.

Wan Yan walked over and saw a girl holding a lantern, indeed the same girl they had seen earlier.

There was no trace of the previous smile on her face. Her small countenance remained expressionless, giving off an eerie stiffness under the faint light.

She didn’t speak. After spotting Wan Yan, she turned and walked away.

Wan Yan watched her retreating figure but didn’t follow.

The girl, upon noticing that Wan Yan hadn’t followed, silently urged her to do so.

Wan Yan didn’t comply with the girl’s wishes and began to walk back towards Xin Lan.

Suddenly, the paper figures grabbed her foot, and Wan Yan steadied herself.

They were the same male and female figures that had appeared in the cave before. One of them clung to one of Wan Yan’s legs, attempting to pull her forward.

Wan Yan forcefully tore off one of the paper figure’s arms. The edge of the paper figure became sharp and cut towards Wan Yan’s body, but Wan Yan remained unharmed and tore both paper figures into shreds.

“If you tear his paper figure, he won’t be pleased.”

The little girl said so.

“His paper figure grabbed my foot, and I’m not pleased either.”

She glanced at the paper figure on the ground and chuckled.

“If he has something to say, he should say it openly.”

“I don’t know what he wants to tell you. I’m guiding you. Won’t you go?”

The little girl said with some confusion.

Wan Yan walked back along the path, using her actions to indicate her answer.

Since the other party had used paper figures so impolitely, she saw no need to follow them.

Besides, she hadn’t even informed Xin Lan.

Her steps were swift, and in no time, she reached the doorway.

There was light behind the door, and Xin Lan sat in a chair. When she saw Wan Yan return, she stood up.

“Did you discover anything?”

“It’s that little girl, related to the person controlling the paper figures. The paper figures tried to grab me, but I tore them apart.”

Wan Yan spoke casually, but there was a subtle hint of pride in her words.

As part of the system, her physical abilities were naturally exceptional, so how could mere paper figures hinder her?

(If you're not reading on littlepandatranslations.com, it means this has been stolen)

She had mentioned it on purpose, of course, to let Xin Lan know that she was also strong enough to stand by her side.

“She said that person wanted to talk to us, but I ignored her. If they really have something to say, they should choose a more polite way.”

“What if that’s an important part of the test?”

Someone couldn’t help but speak up.

Xin Lan glanced at that person, and they involuntarily took a small step back.

“If you think so, why don’t you go out and take a look?”

The person fell silent and remained quietly where they were.

Xin Lan naturally protected her own. Wan Yan’s behavior was perfectly normal, and she wouldn’t tolerate any insinuations, even if they were just harmless inquiries. The underlying message was always about pushing capable individuals into danger and having them do the heavy lifting.

Wan Yan, on the other hand, reveled in it. She loved the assertive way Xin Lan defended her, and it made her heart race uncontrollably.

Watching Xin Lan’s exquisite profile, she felt the urge to give her a kiss, but she figured she might get a hammering and be sent to the center of the Earth.
