    Night Encounter

    Treating her as a tool?

The two had arrived around one in the afternoon; by the time they reached the hotel, it was already ten at night.

Recalling how, two days ago, that person had left her behind to go to bed, this time He Ying spoke up before she even had to ask. “It’s getting late. Let’s all go back and get some sleep first. I don’t have any recording tomorrow morning, so I can take you both sightseeing nearby.”

Hearing that she could sleep, Jing Dan was naturally the first to nod in agreement. Hu Tu, however…

    “…”

It was only ten! The nightlife hadn’t even properly started, and they were already telling her to go back to bed?!

Yet the two of them didn’t pick up on her speechless expression at all. After exchanging goodnights, they each entered their own rooms.

    Hu Tu: “…”

Fine. If they were going to be heartless, she wouldn’t hold back either!

She’d go out and have fun on her own!

When it came to having a good time, no one dared claim first place if Hu Tu claimed second! Though she hadn’t been to this place more than once or twice, she already knew exactly where all the fun was.

She went back, showered, and dressed up with care. Heavy, vivid makeup suited this nocturnal world perfectly, and paired with that tight red miniskirt, she looked like a spirit prowling the night—turning every head as she passed.

Sure enough, the moment she walked through the bar’s entrance, even in that dimly lit space, she immediately drew stares from all around. She cast a casual glance about the room—and her eyes landed on a woman in the corner.

Vivid makeup traced the woman’s innate allure to its fullest, while the sharp, winged corners of her eyes added a cutting edge—making her look at once gorgeous and dangerously seductive.

Hu Tu’s throat bobbed. Her gaze traced over the woman with growing attention—the tight T-shirt exposed most of her waist, supple and alluring as a water snake.

She was interested now. She hadn’t expected that a casual night out to test her luck would land her in the company of such a stunning beauty.

She went to the bar and ordered two drinks. Hu Tu, who had always lived by the creed that if you wanted something, you had to learn to reach for it first, knew that only by taking the initiative could a story begin.

She carried the drinks over to the woman, sat down directly across from her, and pushed one glass forward. She stared straight at her with a smile and said, “Have a drink?”

It wasn’t peak hours yet, and even the music had been turned down a notch, so she didn’t need to shout over it.

The woman looked up at her, a flicker of interest in her eyes. “Just drinking?”

Hearing that question, Hu Tu knew she probably wouldn’t be alone tonight.

Her gaze grew even more appreciative. Forward. She liked that.

She’d love to see which of them could out-seduce the other.

“If you want, we don’t have to limit ourselves to just drinking.”

Jing Dan returned to her room, showered, and lay back on the soft bed. Suddenly she couldn’t sleep. She thought about everything she’d seen today, and about what path to take going forward.

She closed her eyes and recalled what her aunt had taught her—how to keep a company running.

    Ding

She turned to glance at her phone and found that it was actually from He Ying.

    【He Ying】: Are you asleep?

Jing Dan fell silent. She hadn’t wanted to reply, but seeing the next message that came through, she hesitated.

【He Ying】: I just ordered some late-night snacks. Want to come over and have some?

    【Jing Dan】: Yes.

If she couldn’t sleep, and there was food, why wouldn’t she?

She sent the message, got up, and headed for the door. Just as she opened it, she heard the door across from hers open at the same time. She looked up and their eyes met.

He Ying gave her a smile and pushed the door wider, inviting her in.

Jing Dan kept her face taut. After closing her own door, she walked past He Ying without a single glance, eyes straight ahead.

The main reason she didn’t look was that He Ying appeared to have just showered. She had a bathrobe draped over her—and draped was one thing, but why wasn’t it even closed!

With that thought, she turned back with a stern face, grabbed He Ying by the wrist, and yanked her away from the doorway. Then she slammed the door shut and turned to say severely, “Don’t you know there are cameras in the hallway? What if someone caught you like that!”

Did this person have zero sense of self-preservation!

Jing Dan felt she needed to go back to her aunt for a thorough refresher course—let her aunt teach her how to properly protect herself when she was out alone!

Watching her stern little expression, her brow furrowed tight as though this were the gravest matter in the world, He Ying laughed softly. She nodded with a look of sincere repentance and said, “You’re right. I was too careless. I promise, this will never happen again!”

She held up four fingers as if taking an oath.

Jing Dan gave a cold snort and paid her no more attention.

Seeing that familiar cold shoulder again, He Ying’s smile deepened. She led her to the living area and laid out all the late-night snacks she’d prepared in advance. Propping her chin on her folded hands, she said warmly, “You didn’t seem to eat much at dinner earlier. I figured the food might not have suited your taste. Look at this—does it look good?”

The three of them had gone out for Hunan cuisine earlier that evening—an entire table of red, fiery dishes. After just a couple of bites, Jing Dan’s fair little face had flushed bright red, her eyes watering.

Who would have thought such a foodie couldn’t handle spice? If she couldn’t eat spicy food, wasn’t she missing out on so many delicious things?

Jing Dan saw the late-night feast He Ying had prepared—crayfish, grilled steak, pastries, cold drinks, everything laid out in full.

How much must all this have cost!

Jing Dan frowned deeply. Hadn’t Hu Tu said He Ying was hard up for money? If she was that strapped, how could she spend so lavishly!

“What’s wrong? Don’t you like it?” He Ying asked, a touch worried at her deep frown.

Could it be that she didn’t like any of this either?

Jing Dan shook her head. “No, it’s not that. How much are all these things? I’ll transfer you the money!”

She pulled out her phone, looking ready for He Ying to name a figure.

    He Ying: “…”

What on earth was going through this child’s head? How had she suddenly veered into the topic of money?

“It wasn’t much. You don’t need to transfer anything.”

What did this person take her for? First she’d transferred fare money, now she wanted to transfer snack money. Did she really look that poor?

“No! You have to! Otherwise I won’t eat!” Jing Dan insisted, standing up with the clear posture of someone who would walk right out if He Ying refused.

    He Ying: “…”

She had never met anyone so eager to shove money at her!

“Fine, fine, fine. Transfer me five hundred, then.”

She rolled her eyes internally. This brat’s personality was just as sour as her expression!

Once He Ying agreed, Jing Dan felt reassured. After transferring the money, she ate with considerably more confidence.

Since she’d chipped in, it was basically like buying it herself!

Watching her eat with her brow and eyes relaxed, He Ying couldn’t help but laugh softly too. Watching her eat seemed to bring a simple kind of joy—her mood was effortlessly contagious.

Seeing how much effort she was putting into cracking crayfish shells, He Ying put on gloves and said, “You eat the other things first. I’ll peel these for you.”

She peeled with speed, precision, and ruthless efficiency—a twist of the head, a tug of the body, and the whole crayfish meat slid out clean. She removed the vein before placing the pristine meat in Jing Dan’s bowl.

Jing Dan watched this performance in a slight daze, as if she couldn’t quite believe it.

“What are you spacing out for? Eat.” He Ying waved a hand in front of her face.

Jing Dan’s gaze fell on the waving hand, then drifted up to her face, looking as though she’d just snapped out of a dream.

He Ying, growing a bit unsettled under the stare: “…”

What was this child thinking about now?

Jing Dan looked down, then dragged the entire basin of crayfish over to He Ying. She placed her bowl right next to He Ying’s hand, for easy access.

    He Ying: “…”

Treating her as a peeling-shrimp tool?

The author has something to say:

He Ying now: Dead brat, rotten brat

He Ying later: Come here for a hug, I’ll give you a bottle of milk~
