My Shijie Seems Intent on Destroying the World – Chapter 15
by Little PandaQuestioning the Heart
Mount Qiongju Would Not Be Her Home
After Tiandao Sect suffered this catastrophic destruction and the demonic sword Powang vanished without a trace, Qingshi Town—the settlement closest to Mount Qiongju—was naturally soon packed with immortal sect cultivators from all across the mortal realm, coming to investigate the news.
The more timid ones gathered in town to watch and wait.
The bolder ones directly broke through the spiritual barrier outside the mountain that was meant to keep mortals out, venturing deep into the sect grounds to investigate for themselves.
In the past, who would have dared to enter the mountain like this?
But Tiandao Sect now stood empty and desolate. Heavy snow had fallen for two days and two nights, burying every corpse across the mountain.
Those who entered the mountain walked through the snow, their footsteps seemingly treading on pure silver-white, the whole world looking pristine and clean—yet no one knew which step might suddenly reveal a grisly scene hidden beneath the snow.
Word had it that the Daoist Venerable perished on the Immortal Terrace suspended high above the clouds, beneath him an incomplete formation. Seven elders and six senior disciples nearby had all perished at the array nodes.
The spiritual power within the formation had completely dissipated, and the formation’s details had been destroyed by wind and snow. What purpose this array once served, no one could now determine.
What truly happened at Tiandao Sect that day became a matter of endless debate, with no shortage of wild speculation and rumor.
Qi Zhi listened with complicated feelings for a long while, then silently retreated to her guest room.
Spiritual veins, formations, the ancient demonic sword, the World-Destroying Demon—
Who coveted them, who feared them—Qi Zhi did not care.
She was but a little blade of grass, knowing very little about this world.
So many people had died. That she could leave Mount Qiongju alive was already a great fortune; she truly did not want any further ties with Tiandao Sect.
That was it. She said nothing simply because she did not want to invite further trouble…
Beyond that, she had no other selfish motives.
Qi Zhi sat on the bed with her arms wrapped around herself, tilting her head as she spaced out for a while.
When she came back to her senses, she rolled to the side and reached out to grab the bundle she had tossed at the foot of the bed.
—So terrifying. The World-Destroying Demon was so terrifying!
This place was still too close to Mount Qiongju. She had to flee even farther!
Qi Zhi slung her bundle over her shoulder, asked the innkeeper’s assistant about nearby places with good food and fun, then hurried out of the inn now crowded with cultivators.
Across the street from the inn was the bun shop where she had eaten that morning.
Qi Zhi only had to glance at it before she could not resist trotting over, mouth watering.
The bun shop owner saw her approaching and immediately broke into a smile. “Miss, would you like some buns?”
Feeling the warmth of his welcome, Qi Zhi nodded happily.
The owner asked what filling she wanted. She craned her neck looking at the options for ages, wanting to try every kind. The owner simply grabbed a paper bag and packed one of each variety for her.
After slipping several buns into the bag, he looked up and asked, “You are carrying a bundle—are you traveling alone, miss?”
“I am!”
“In this bitter cold, buns cool down fast—not great for eating on the road. Let me pack you some sugar-filled steamed buns? They taste good even cold.”
Qi Zhi’s eyes lit up, and she thanked him profusely, deeply moved.
Soon, the owner handed her two large paper bags, packed to the brim with buns and steamed buns, as if afraid she would not have enough to eat.
Qi Zhi buried her face in the bags and took a deep breath of the steaming aroma inside. Thoroughly satisfied, she bid the owner farewell, happily pulled one out, and walked eastward as she ate.
The girl’s figure grew smaller and smaller in the distance. A bird with a white head and grey back landed on the windowsill.
It tilted its head, peered around the room, then flapped its wings and carried off a small flower from the table.
…
Qi Zhi hugged the paper bags and ate the whole way. When she could eat no more, she found a place to sit, untied her bundle, and carefully wrapped the remaining ones in coarse cloth, packing them inside.
The bundle on her back gained some weight. Qi Zhi could not help but sigh—the bun uncle was so warm-hearted! Hearing she was traveling, he had packed so much at once, enough for three to five meals. She would not go hungry on the road this time!
Before leaving, the innkeeper’s assistant had told her that east of Qingshi Town was a place called Qingxi Commandery. The wine there was fragrant, and the soup pots were savory and delicious—eating there on such a cold day would warm you for the whole day.
But walking there was quite far. By carriage, it would take about a day to arrive.
If she needed a carriage, she could ask at the post station1. There was one at the eastern edge of town.
Qi Zhi followed the assistant’s directions and headed east.
But as she walked down the road, a large crowd of cultivators suddenly gathered ahead, seemingly arguing about something.
Curious, Qi Zhi moved closer, stood on her tiptoes, and peeked toward the center of the crowd.
That single glance frightened her into immediately lowering her head. She turned and ducked into a nearby alley, pressing a hand over her heart, her face full of guilt.
She saw two familiar figures she had not seen in a long time.
It was Eldest Senior Brother and Third Senior Sister…
They, too, had received the news and rushed back from Yu City.
The cultivators surrounding them were firing off questions from all sides.
Asking about the formation of unknown purpose on the Immortal Terrace.
Asking about the two seals in the Forbidden Back Mountain—one broken, one intact.
Asking about the demonic sword that had vanished overnight, asking when Tiandao Sect, which had failed to safeguard the sword’s seal, would give the immortal sects an explanation.
But the two of them, having been away from the mountain for so long and knowing nothing of this, how could they answer so many questions?
Qi Zhi pressed her back against the cold wall of the alley, listening to the barrage of accusations outside. Several times she wanted to step out and say something, but each time she suppressed the impulse.
She took a long, deep breath and ran deeper into the alley.
Unnoticed, a wisp of spiritual light, light as mist, quietly descended behind her.
Amidst the crowd, Ming Songxue seemed to sense something. She looked in a certain direction for several seconds.
After a brief hesitation, she leaned closer to the person beside her and used Secret Voice Transmission: “shixiong, I think I just saw Eleventh Junior Sister.”
A flicker of surprise passed through Shen Zhuxing’s eyes. Amid the relentless questioning and accusations, he slowly closed his eyes. Looking impatient, he actually released a silent, formless Spirit-Search Technique outward.
After a moment of silence, the search turned up nothing. He sighed silently and shook his head with a frown.
“Perhaps I was mistaken.” Ming Songxue could not help but grip her sword tighter, disappointment settling in her eyes. “Even Master perished for this… With her cultivation so difficult to begin with, how could she possibly have survived?”
…
Qi Zhi followed the alley for a long way, making a wide detour. She finally avoided the people she dared not see and found the post station the assistant had mentioned.
Perhaps it was good luck—she had barely arrived when she spotted the same carter who had brought her here yesterday.
The carter recognized her at once and came over to greet her.
“Coming all this way, and only staying one day?”
“Mhm!”
“Where are you headed this time?”
“Qingxi Commandery!”
“Qingxi Commandery, hmm?” The carter seemed to think for a moment, then said, “It is on my way. Want me to give you another ride?”
Qi Zhi was overjoyed and nodded immediately, happily climbing onto the familiar carriage.
The snow fell heavier and heavier from the sky. The carriage headed east, leaving two long tracks in its wake that would soon be buried by the wind and snow.
Qi Zhi poked her head out the carriage window, watching Qingshi Town grow farther and farther behind her until it gradually disappeared from sight. Her heart was filled with a thousand emotions.
Eldest Senior Brother, Third Senior Sister…
In very distant memories, they had once cared for her too. But the Imperial City was so far away—they were lucky to see each other even once in decades.
Now that something had happened at Tiandao Sect, they naturally had to go back and face many things.
It was a pity—
The formation on the Immortal Terrace was her life-taking lock.
The demon who slaughtered the sect was the person who had been kindest to her these past several hundred years.
Some things, no matter how many mouths she had, she could never explain.
Mount Qiongju would not be her home. She could not go back with them.
“I am sorry…”
Qi Zhi murmured softly, letting a gust of wind scatter all the reluctance in her heart.
She happily dug out a sugar-filled steamed bun from her bundle, quickly scooted over to the carriage door, lifted the curtain, and handed one to the kind carter driving outside. Then she took one for herself.
“Thanks, little miss.”
“I should be the one thanking you! You gave me another ride!”
“Hahaha…” The carter accidentally let something slip. “It is not like I didn’t charge you.”
“Huh?” Qi Zhi tilted her head.
“Ah, nothing.”
“…”
She didn’t get it at all. Oh well—time to eat the steamed bun!
The author has something to say:
Ah Yun: Are we going to keep sneaking around like this?
Mu Qingshi: She never even gave me a flower.
Ah Yun: 🙄
