Miss Forensics – Chapter 109.2

Trade

His frustration boiled over, and the words just slipped out.

After a moment, he realized something was off and awkwardly touched his nose.

Song Yuhang had already calmed down, the tears in her eyes not falling but instead swallowed back down.

“You’re right, I used to think she was too radical, but living in this world, if there’s nothing that stirs your heart, that you’re willing to devote everything to, including your life, how boring that would be.”

“My father also started as a patrol officer in the police station, and Lin Yan also started as an intern forensic. Everyone is born ordinary with no distinction between high and low, noble or humble.”

“Even if I’m just a grassroots cop, I should die at my post, rather than turning a blind eye to illegal and criminal activities, living a life of cowardice and evasion.”

Saying this, she grabbed the paper on the table, crumpled it into a ball, and threw it into the trash can, then turned and left.

“You have your grand schemes, and little people have their own persistent beliefs. Neither of us can persuade the other, I’ve disturbed you tonight, I take my leave.”

Feng Jianguo was absolutely livid; he was so angry and scared that he felt like his lungs were about to explode. Angry because she, of all the good things she could have learned, had to pick up Lin Yan’s stubbornness. Scared because he was afraid that in her impulsiveness, she would rush off to her doom!

He had promised someone to take good care of and look after her, after all.

If Lin Yan got wind of this, she’d probably kick up a fuss and make faces, refusing to cooperate.

Seeing her about to leave, it was an emergency.

Feng Jianguo was so stressed he nearly had a heart attack, imploring earnestly, “You stop right there! If I tell you not to go, then don’t go. The city bureau and the narcotics squad have their own plans for this. You, young lady, better not f*cking startle the snake by hitting the grass!”

A slight smile appeared quietly at the corner of Song Yuhang’s lips under her hat, as she turned around.

“Then I’m relieved.”

Feng Jianguo was taken aback and grabbed the teacup as if to smash it.

“Are you tricking me?”

Song Yuhang didn’t dodge: “If I don’t trick you a bit, how will you tell me the truth?”

Feng Jianguo gritted his teeth in hatred, damn it, not only did Song Yuhang learn Lin Yan’s radicalism to a significant degree, but she also sneakily picked up cunning and trickery.

Really f*cking true, birds of a feather flock together.

“Don’t throw the teacup anymore, it’s not good to disturb your granddaughter’s sleep late at night. Tell me, what’s the top-secret plan.”

She then calmly sat down again, sifted some tea leaves into a disposable paper cup from the tea caddy, and poured some hot water to soothe her throat.

In the study, the light stayed on for a long time that night.

When Feng Jianguo gently closed the door after seeing off the guest, his little granddaughter opened the bedroom door, standing at the doorway rubbing her eyes.

“Grandpa…”

Feng Jianguo turned around, his face immediately brimming with a kind smile, and scooped her up in his arms.

“Ah, why is little Fengfeng still not sleeping at this late hour?”

The little girl, holding a doll in her arms, looked up with big eyes: “Can’t sleep.”

“How about Grandpa tells you a story, would that be good?” Feng Jianguo said, holding her as he pushed open the room door.

The little girl clung to his neck: “Good~”

“What story do you want to hear?” Feng Jianguo turned on the desk lamp and put on his reading glasses.

“《Cinderella》, 《Snow White》, 《Pinocchio》?”

Holding her doll, the little girl pondered for a moment: “Grandpa, I want to hear a story about the police.”

The old man smiled, his temples already grey, his wrinkled face smoothing out as his aura shed the intensity of his job.

At this moment, he was not the imposing chief of the Public Security Bureau, just a grandfather who adored his granddaughter.

“Alright, Grandpa will tell you a story about the police, once upon a time…”

Before he could finish the entirely made-up tale, the little girl was nearly asleep, snuggling against his wrist with drowsy eyes.

“Grandpa is so awesome, Fengfeng wants to be a police officer when she grows up too.”

Feng Jianguo tenderly stroked her head, tucking her small arm under the blanket, turned off the table lamp, and quietly left.

The next day, Officer Song Yuhang went to work as usual, patrolling the streets within the jurisdiction of the police station. After resolving several neighborhood disputes, it quickly became evening.

She stared at the clock hanging on the wall while expressionlessly chewing on instant noodles.

Two hours before eleven o’clock, the alarm bell rang.

The operator picked it up immediately; it was an internal call from the 110 command center.

“A public report claims that a large quantity of suspected drugs was found inside Huange Nightclub, with people trading on-site. The higher-ups have ordered us to secure the scene before the Drug Enforcement Team arrives, to prevent the drug dealers from fleeing upon hearing news.”

Officer Song hadn’t even finished her sip of soup when the chief ran in: “Quick, quick, quick, grab your weapons and follow me, we’ve got a big case!”

Hearing the order, Officer Song’s instinct was to obey. She put on her uniform, took her electric baton, secured her gun holster, and wore her law enforcement recorder before heading out.

It wasn’t until she saw the station’s only two police cars, with the entire office having emptied out, that she felt something was amiss.

“Chief, where are we going, what’s the mission?”

“Alas, if it weren’t for our station being close to Huange Nightclub, this task wouldn’t have fallen to us. There’s been a public accusation of drug dealing inside the nightclub! The drug enforcement brothers will arrive soon; let’s control the scene first.”

Huange Nightclub, the scene of a drug transaction.

Officer Song’s heart skipped a beat, as she looked towards the neon lights flickering outside the window.

The police cars, with their sirens flashing, soared past the crossroads.

Fifteen minutes ago.

Lin Yan paced back and forth in the room.

“Has Brother Wang come back yet?”

Liu Zhi shook his head: “Not yet. I just went to Chen Fang’s room, and she’s not there either, most likely they’ve gone out to…”

To have fun.

(If you're not reading on littlepandatranslations.com, it means this has been stolen)

Afraid that the rest of the sentence would upset her, Liu Zhi held back from saying it.

Lin Yan bit her lip, “Damn it, don’t they realize what time it is? Men really are creatures driven by their lower halves, a bunch of useless A Dou (weak and inept person).”

As if to prove her point, her phone rang, displaying a string of unfamiliar landline numbers.

Lin Yan, puzzled, pressed the speakerphone button in front of him to answer.

“Hello?”

“Jun’an Substation police station, is Wang Li your boyfriend? During our routine law enforcement patrol, we found him engaging in a monetary and sexual transaction with an unfamiliar woman in a room. Please come to pick him up.”

The police had put it quite euphemistically, wasn’t this just being caught for solicitation?

Lin Yan almost spat out a mouthful of blood in shock, knowing well that this Wang Li was a pseudonym for Wang Qiang, who most likely also used a fake ID.

She pinched the bridge of her nose, “Okay, got it, I’ll come over soon, goodbye.”

Liu Zhi saw her looking frustrated, incessantly smoking, and assumed she was upset about Wang Qiang’s infidelity, silently passing her a cup of tea.

” Sister-in-law, don’t be angry, I’ll go bring big brother back.”

As soon as he finished speaking, someone knocked on the door lightly twice.

Lin Yan extinguished her cigarette in the ashtray: “Come in, what is it?”

The waiter bowed slightly: “Sister Hong, the person has already arrived.”

Lin Yan’s pupils shrank: “Wasn’t it agreed at eleven?”

“The buyer proposed it, saying that the night is long and full of dreams, the earlier the transaction, the sooner the peace of mind, thus the time was changed at the last minute. Brother Hu is also on his way to deliver the goods, it will take at most ten minutes to arrive. We need to set up the venue and prepare to receive the goods.”

Upon hearing this news, Lin Yan’s first instinct was that it was too conspicuous. If someone was sent to fetch Wang Qiang at this time, it might well be suspected by the drug dealers lurking nearby that she was signaling the police.

She slightly lowered her gaze and quickly made a judgment.

“Alright, I got it. You go ahead and leave first. Allow me to prepare, and I’ll go to meet the guests shortly.”

The waiter bowed respectfully and then retreated.

Liu Zhi walked up behind her, watching her twist open the lipstick cap in front of the mirror, gently applying it, then pursing her lips, and putting on a black veil, concealing most of her charming face, including the beauty mark.

He couldn’t help but straighten the brim of her hat for her, his eyes filled with infatuation.

“Sister-in-law is really beautiful.”

Lin Yan smiled faintly, observing the man’s intoxicated expression in the mirror. In that moment, she suddenly felt that something was off. Such an expression, she had never seen on Wang Qiang’s face, whether towards her or Chen Fang.

Wang Qiang seemed more like the past her, playing with the world, never truly having his heart moved by anyone.

Moreover, even though he is a man, he is more importantly a drug lord, a criminal, a ringleader of a crime syndicate; he wouldn’t be so careless to get caught by the police for soliciting a prostitute!

Upon this realization, Lin Yan broke out in a cold sweat.

She slammed her lipstick down on the table, and suddenly, tears started rolling down her eyes.

Seeing her crying in the mirror, Liu Zhi was shocked and turned her around: “Sister-in-law, what’s wrong?”

Lin Yan’s fingers, soft and boneless, rested on his wrist, her tears falling like pearls onto the back of his hand.

“Liu Zhi, they all don’t believe me, only you believe me, love me, protect me. Whether I can survive or not depends on you.”

Five minutes later.

A small delivery van drove in.

Tiger, wearing work clothes, jumped off the van to knock on the door, and Liu Zhi welcomed the people in. He looked around and closed the door.

“Sister Hong has been waiting, please.”

He led the people upstairs while the employees unloading the goods outside got busy with their tasks.

Someone offered cigarettes to the people brought by Tiger: “Brothers, you’ve worked hard.”

“Ha, we’re all just doing tasks for Boss, it’s nothing tough.”

The person giving out cigarettes made a meaningful glance to the side.

A van, with a license plate exactly identical to the first, quietly arrived.

The person handing out cigarettes slung an arm over the speaker’s shoulder: “Every transaction, Sister Hong always keeps some for herself. If there’s good stuff this time, share some with the brothers too.”

“That’s damn good, Southeast Asia, that place, where birds don’t even sh*t, not even a decent woman to be found, but you guys here—”

The men talked more and more excitedly, bursting into boisterous laughter.

“Relax, relax, what place is this, a nightclub! What does a nightclub have the most of?”

The men laughed maliciously together, echoing in unison: “That’s obviously women!”

As they spoke, the vehicles passed each other.

The man who first offered the cigarettes, one of Liu Zhi’s subordinates, released Tiger’s younger brother’s shoulder.

“Let’s go, let’s go, work first, work comes first.”

As the police car drove into the neighborhood, the residents around turned their heads to look.

Song Yuhang felt something was off. “Chief, I think we should wait for the anti-drug team to arrive before we go in.”

The Lianhuachi Subbureau was an unknown small police station that couldn’t compare to the other stations in Jiangcheng City. The chief had been in the position for half his life and had little chance of promotion. He was hoping to make some achievements and move up a rank.

“This is an urgent matter. What if the drug dealer escapes? We can’t wait any longer!”

Of course, Song Yuhang understood the urgency of the situation, but…

She couldn’t mention what happened last night.

Before she could think further, they had already arrived at the Huange Nightclub.

The police car couldn’t enter, so it stopped at the intersection. The people inside opened the doors and jumped out one after another.

The chief loaded a bullet into his gun. “Listen to my command. We’ll break in and arrest them directly. If anyone resists violently, shoot them with rubber bullets. Just avoid vital areas.”

They were equipped with rubber bullets, which had a strong deterrent effect but lacked lethality.

Song Yuhang sighed deeply. It was already too late to stop them.
