I Can Leave As Soon As Possible!

At the sudden question, Song Qingpei assumed Ming Yu knew she had been out looking for a job.

She was about to argue her case when a sharp pain shot through the shoulder Ming Yu was gripping. A stifled grunt escaped her lips. Ming Yu snapped back to her senses, realized her loss of composure, and quickly let go.

Song Qingpei glared up at her, her tone sharp. “What are you doing?”

    “Are you all right…”

Ming Yu’s words of concern died in her throat.

Especially when she met Song Qingpei’s cold gaze. Thinking back to the scent of an unfamiliar Omega’s pheromones she had just detected, the fury that had been brewing within her suddenly soured into an uncomfortable bitterness. She couldn’t stop herself from demanding again:

“Song Qingpei, I’m asking you, what were you doing tonight?”

Originally, Song Qingpei had intended to discuss things with her calmly, but now her good mood was completely ruined, and her shoulder was aching badly. Her patience finally ran out.

“What I do is none of your business.”

Song Qingpei let out a cold laugh, no longer holding back. “Admiral Ming, I agreed to come back with you to take care of Song Song. I didn’t sell myself to you. Don’t you think you’re overstepping?”

Hearing her response, Ming Yu’s expression darkened further, and a nameless rage surged in her heart.

She wasn’t one to wear her emotions on her sleeve, yet when it came to Song Qingpei, she always felt an uncontrollable sense of powerlessness, as if things were slowly slipping from her grasp.

    It was a terrible feeling.

Ming Yu took a deep breath, forcing herself to calm down.

She looked at Song Qingpei and said coldly, “Song Qingpei, don’t forget your current position. I’m warning you, don’t try to provoke me. I can make you leave this place at any time!”

Song Qingpei hated it most when she used that threat.

If it weren’t for Song Song, she would have left this godforsaken place long ago.

She had once thought she could trade concessions for a peaceful coexistence with Ming Yu, but reality had proven that path was impossible. That slap in the face that night wasn’t just a humiliation; it was a wake-up call. Giving in time and again wouldn’t earn her equal footingβ€”it would only make the other person gain an inch and advance a foot. Respect was something you had to fight for yourself.

Now, hearing Ming Yu’s threat again, Song Qingpei wasn’t as frightened. Instead, she felt a sense of calm acceptance. It was always going to come to this.

“Fine. I can leave as soon as possible!”

Song Qingpei looked at Ming Yu, her voice steady. “But before that, I hope we can have a proper discussion about Song Song’s custody. She can stay with you for now, but I want visitation rights two or three times a week. Of course, I’ll work with you to prepare Song Song, so she won’t be too resistant…”

Ming Yu clearly hadn’t anticipated such a rational negotiation. She cut Song Qingpei off, a note of panic in her voice. “You don’t have to go, as long as you…”

She trailed off, stuck. In her haste, she had only instinctively interrupted Song Qingpei, without thinking about what she actually wanted.

“As long as I what?” Song Qingpei scoffed, her eyes filled with derision. “As long as I obey you like a dog?”

Ming Yu hadn’t expected Song Qingpei to say something so harsh. For a moment, she was speechless, unsure how to respond.

Seeing Ming Yu’s stunned expression, Song Qingpei felt as if she had exposed the other woman’s vile inner thoughts, and her disappointment deepened.

She lifted her chin, meeting Ming Yu’s gaze without a trace of weakness, and said, word by word, “Ming Yu, I am a person, with my own dignity. I will never be your dog to command as you please. Threatening me with Song Song is useless. I will never compromise.”

Since compromise was useless and they had already torn the face, then it was time to fight. She had survived all those years as a wanderer; there was nothing left to fear.

Her mind made up, Song Qingpei didn’t spare Ming Yu another glance and turned to walk upstairs.

    “Song Qingpei…”

Hearing the call from behind, Song Qingpei paused but didn’t turn back, continuing on her way.

Behind her, Ming Yu watched that stubborn, straight back, and her heart was suddenly pierced by a strange, sharp pain. A wave of panic washed over her.

She instinctively chased after her and grabbed her arm. Learning from her previous mistake, she used much less force this time, but it was still enough to keep Song Qingpei from pulling away. Song Qingpei didn’t resist this time, simply standing there and looking at her with a complicated expression.

Ming Yu looked at Song Qingpei; for a moment, five flavors mixed in her heart.1

Seeing her just standing there like a block of wood without saying a word, Song Qingpei asked impatiently, “It’s the middle of the night. What on earth do you want?”

Ming Yu looked at Song Qingpei, her tone somewhat strained. “…That’s not what I meant.”

Her words sounded a bit nonsensical at first, but Song Qingpei understood. Ming Yu was trying to explain that she didn’t see her as a dog to be trained.

How ridiculous. Wasn’t that blatant threat just now using Song Song to warn her?

Song Qingpei sneered internally, her face impassive as she spoke. “Admiral Ming, were you not just threatening me?”

Ming Yu suddenly regretted her impulsive words. She had, in fact, meant to threaten her, but she hadn’t expected such a fierce reaction. This wasn’t the outcome she wanted.

At that thought, Ming Yu unconsciously lowered her head and coughed lightly to cover her embarrassment. “I was a bit impulsive just now.”

Song Qingpei shot her a cold look. “And?”

Ming Yu pressed her lips together, her voice stiff. “I can apologize to you, but you have to tell me where you went today, and why…” Why do you smell like another Omega’s pheromones?

But before she could finish, Song Qingpei cut her off. “I don’t need your apology, and I don’t want to talk to you about this.”

    Ming Yu was left speechless.

Seeing her silence, Song Qingpei said coldly, “If there’s nothing else, I’m going to rest. Once you’ve calmed down, we can talk about Song Song.”

With that, she shook off Ming Yu’s hand and walked toward her bedroom without a backward glance.

This time, Ming Yu didn’t stop her.

Watching Song Qingpei’s retreating back, her heart felt as if it had sunk into ice water, chilled to the core.

That night, both of them were lost in their own troubled thoughts.

Song Qingpei worried about how she could possibly get Song Song away from Ming Yu. She was truly fed up with Ming Yu’s volatile personality. Her good mood for the day had been utterly destroyed.

She had been hesitant about accepting the job at Blue Sea. After all, pies don’t fall from the sky; their enthusiastic efforts to recruit her seemed strange. But the thought of continuing to live under the same roof as Ming Yu made her feel like she would go insane. In any case, she had nothing left to lose. She might as well give it a try.

Besides, the person-in-charge, Murong Ruixue, seemed like a very decent Omega. She had even insisted on demonstrating the combat-type mech repair process for her despite being in her sensitive heat period, which nearly caused her to lose control of her own pheromones. She’d had to go to the hospital to get it under control. It would be a lie to say she wasn’t moved.

Thinking of this, Song Qingpei made a decision. Tomorrow, she would tell Murong Ruixue she accepted the job.

    Meanwhile, in the other room.

Admiral Ming Yu, nearly driven mad with anger, was tossing and turning in bed, unable to sleep.

The scene from earlier replayed in her mind. The look in Song Qingpei’s eyes had terrified herβ€”that strange, distant look, as if she were the most disgusting person in the world.

The scent of the unfamiliar Omega’s pheromones on Song Qingpei was even more unsettling…

She couldn’t help but wonder: in the past, Song Qingpei had always compromised without hesitation for Song Song’s sake. Why had she suddenly become so unyielding?

Could she be planning to run away with Song Song again?

Or has she found another Omega? Is she preparing to cruelly abandon Song Song and have a child with someone else?

The mere thought of that possibility ignited a nameless fire in her heart, burning hotter and hotter until she could barely breathe.

Ming Yu shot up in bed, grabbed her phone, and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, pulling back the curtains.

Outside, the moon hung high in the sky, tree shadows swayed, and the stars twinkled.

She stared at the night sky, not knowing what she was worried about, or perhaps what she was afraid of. But a faint voice in her heart kept reminding her: she could not let Song Qingpei have a child with another Omega.

    Why?

Because… Song Song deserved to have her parents’ undivided love.

Having found what she considered a reasonable explanation, Ming Yu gritted her teeth and dialed a number, her mind already made up.

The person who answered sounded sleepy and extremely impatient. “Fuck, who is this? Calling in the middle of the night… Cou… Cousin? Why are you calling me at this hour?”

“Ming Rui,” Ming Yu said, “I need you to track someone for me.”

She sent Song Qingpei’s information over and added a final instruction. “Her movements for the day, matter no big or smallβ€”investigate everything clearly and tell me!”

When she saw Song Qingpei’s photo, Ming Rui, who had more or less eaten some melons, perked up instantly. A chance to eat melon at close range!2

“No problem, Auntie! Leave it to me!”

    “Good.”

Ming Yu said nothing more and hung up.

She lay back down in bed, fuming, but sleep remained elusive. She stared into the darkness, her eyes open until dawn.

    1. The β€˜five flavors’ (wΗ”wΓ¨i) refer to sour, sweet, bitter, spicy, and salty. Used metaphorically to describe a complex mixture of emotions.
    2. To β€˜eat melon’ (chΔ« guā) is modern Chinese internet slang for being a passive observer of a dramatic event, much like a spectator eating snacks while watching a show.
