Ex-Girlfriend – Chapter 94

Life and Death Examination Room 01
Examination God
After Shen Yun’s death, Xin Lan chose to log out.
Her mission was already completed, and she didn’t want to stay any longer.
As for what Qin Yuyan’s reaction would be after she found out… Xin Lan didn’t want to think about it anymore.
She came out of the mission gate, wanting to undergo an emotional extraction.
But inexplicably, she was somewhat reluctant to forget certain things.
Ling Jiu, seeing Xin Lan’s unhappy mood, knew what had happened and wisely didn’t make a sound to disturb her.
The host finally had a breakthrough, only for it to be nipped in the bud.
Meanwhile, a certain commander who had just emerged from her own mission gate wanted to bang her head against a wall.
“Are you stupid? Stupid?!”
Wan Yan desperately wanted to reformat herself, angered by her own actions.
She had finally made some progress! There was a spark! She [Xin Lan] had even said everything was good!
Ptui! [呸 | pēi | an onomatopoeia expressing disgust or disapproval]
She had clearly wanted to say, “My life has you in it.“
This frustration made Wan Yan wish she could return to the mission world and pour all the water out of her brain.
She called Cheng Zi, staring at her forlornly.
“Back already? Judging by your expression, it doesn’t seem like things went well?”
Cheng Zi teased, Wan Yan’s resentment completely unconcealed on her face.
Wan Yan briefly recounted the events, and Cheng Zi on the other end nearly died of laughter. “See? What did I tell you? I told you to be less direct, you introverted flirt, and you still want a girlfriend?”
Her friend, instead of offering comfort, continued to twist the knife. The little person inside Wan Yan’s heart retreated to a corner to sulk.
The words still echoed in her mind.
——”Do you have anything else you want to tell me?“
Even without seeing that person’s face, she could imagine her expression.
Wan Yan quickly calculated the probability. The chance of success in the first world was zero, but now the possibility was fifty percent.
“I’ll tell you what, Wan Yan, you should just go for it. Confess! Go!”
Cheng Zi encouraged her. After all, humans, unlike them, didn’t have such good patience. If they didn’t seize the opportunity, it would slip away.
Wan Yan nodded, feeling that it was worth a try.
Even if she failed, it wouldn’t matter.
Seeing Wan Yan nod, Cheng Zi cheered her on.
She was about to leave when her communicator rang again. She initially thought Cheng Zi had more to say but discovered it was a message from headquarters.
“What? An anomaly in the mission world?”
“A bug?”
“Alright, I’ll go fix it.”
Wan Yan swiped open the light screen, her fingers tapping on it.
She pushed open the door, forcing herself to relax.
She had already planned to confess, but now that headquarters had suddenly issued an order for her to repair the bugged world, it became even more imperative.
If the entry time into the mission world wasn’t synchronized, then it would be impossible to appear in the same world.
So from the very beginning, she and Xin Lan were quite fated.
She didn’t have time to wait for Xin Lan at the usual cafe. The bug needed fixing, so she knocked on Xin Lan’s door.
Ling Jiu, with a mouthful of potato chips, hadn’t yet swallowed when her identification system scanned the visitor. Recognizing her as a senior officer, she quickly gulped down the chips.
“Commander, what brings you here?”
“May I ask if your host is in?”
“The host is resting.”
Wan Yan remembered Xin Lan’s severe morning grumpiness and hesitated.
“Commander? May I ask your purpose in coming?”
Ling Jiu, seeing Wan Yan’s hesitation, asked softly.
“I have something I want to discuss with your host.”
“Alright, I’ll ask her for you.”
Ling Jiu knew about Xin Lan’s morning grumpiness, but since the commander had come, there must be something important. She decided to risk asking.
Two minutes later, Xin Lan walked out with a gloomy face.
She narrowed her eyes. The person standing at the door looked familiar.
Wasn’t this the person she had run into several times at the cafe?
So she was a system.
“What is it?”
Xin Lan tried to maintain a polite tone, but her expression betrayed her bad mood.
“Sorry to disturb your sleep. Allow me to introduce myself. I’m Wan Yan, the A05 system.”
“Wan Yan?”
Xin Lan murmured the name, fully awake now.
There had been a world where someone had the same name, and their appearance seemed somewhat similar as well.
For several worlds now, there had always been someone whose name or courtesy name contained the character ‘Yan’ [煙 | yān | smoke], making it hard for her not to notice.
“I came to tell you, there are other things I want to say, and I also want to… make you afternoon tea again.”
Wan Yan mustered her courage, her eyes filled with anticipation, staring unblinkingly at Xin Lan.
Bang! The door slammed shut in her face.
Wan Yan wasn’t discouraged. She knew Xin Lan would be somewhat angry.
Xin Lan felt like she might still be dreaming.
Wan Yan’s words and that familiar, irresistible gaze…
Ling Jiu was also bewildered. As someone in the know, she naturally understood what had just happened.
No way… Could it be…
“Didn’t you tell me that systems couldn’t be natives in the worlds?”
Xin Lan looked at Ling Jiu, who nodded.
“But there’s one exception: high-level systems that have completed many missions and can unbind from their hosts. After upgrading, those systems become Order Keepers or high-ranking commanders.”
But to be able to locate her every time meant having access to coordinates.
And coordinates…
Ahhhhh!
Ling Jiu remembered what she always provided and looked at Xin Lan with tears in her eyes.
How could she have known the commander would do such a thing?!
Such blatant abuse of power!
Xin Lan was very annoyed, but a faint voice in her heart whispered with joy.
Wasn’t this good? You wanted her to stay by your side. You left her, but she came back, and all this time, she had been following you.
Xin Lan opened the door, told Ling Jiu to leave, and let Wan Yan in.
She sat on the sofa and tilted her chin, signaling Wan Yan to begin.
A system’s memory was excellent. As long as it wanted to remember something, it would be stored in its brain’s database.
Wan Yan honestly confessed everything, including how she developed emotions. This was a system’s meticulousness!
“At that time, I was thinking, such a cool girl is really attractive…”
“Stop.”
All sorts of confessions were simply too much for Xin Lan to bear.
But she didn’t know why, yet the smile in her heart was somewhat irrepressible.
Wan Yan looked at her expectantly, making Xin Lan immediately connect her with Qin Yuyan.
Xin Lan pondered for a moment. Agreeing was impossible, but rejecting was also something she didn’t want to do.
“Don’t feel pressured.”
Xin Lan was a little surprised. Wan Yan was clearly a system, yet she could smile so gently, so sweetly.
“What I want to say is, I’ll be very persistent. I hope you’re not angry that I didn’t tell you I’ve been following you.”
“Because I still want to follow you.”
Wan Yan’s face was full of determination, a completely unpretentious sincerity.
Even introverts can be bold sometimes.
“That’s your freedom. It has nothing to do with me.”
Xin Lan simply couldn’t bring herself to say yes.
Wan Yan understood the little tiger’s slight arrogance and knew what her attitude meant. She smiled especially brightly.
“There’s something I want to tell you. There’s a bug in one of the ‘Ex-Girlfriend’ series missions. All the taskers involved in that mission failed. The difficulty of the mission has rapidly increased and has been judged as an anomaly. I’ve browsed the general content of the mission. It’s very suitable for you. You’re very strong, so I hope you’ll consider it.”
“No problem.”
Xin Lan accepted without hesitation. She had an all-S rating in the Villain Department. It was only in the Face-Slapping Department that she stumbled the first time. Now, she would pay more attention. Besides, if Wan Yan said she liked it, then she should probably like it.
“As an Order-Keeping system, I’ll also be entering there.”
“That’s your real purpose, isn’t it?”
“One of them,” Wan Yan curved her lips into a smile. “This time, I’ll have my memories.”
Under normal circumstances, a system would lose its original memories when entering a world, but there were exceptions, such as this situation.
“Going now?”
Xin Lan pointed to the mission gate.
“Yes, we have to hurry. I’ll establish a mental connection with Ling Jiu. If there’s any danger, we can communicate through her.”
Xin Lan made an ‘OK’ gesture.
Wan Yan opened the door. Ling Jiu was munching on potato chips, completely unaware that she was about to become a communication relay.
After establishing the mental connection, Wan Yan returned to her own mission gate, selected the mission world, entered the commands, and simultaneously sent the coordinates to Ling Jiu.
“An SSS-level difficulty mission? Host, you’re going there?”
“3S-level? Seems like it’s a big deal.”
Seeing that her host didn’t seem to have any objections, and not knowing what agreement those two had reached, the little system decided to simply follow the instructions, accepting the mission and the designated coordinates.
Xin Lan stood in the mission room and underwent consciousness extraction.
Ling Jiu: Host, this mission is really special. Receive the background and memories first.
The original host’s name was Chen Xin [陳昕 | Chén Xīn], just an ordinary office worker living a 9-to-5 life. The only unusual thing was probably her handsome and wealthy boyfriend.
Skipping over the cliché parts of the story, Xin Lan summarized it as another girl being toyed with by a scumbag.
The only peculiar thing was the background of this mission world.
January 1st, 2930 AD. The New Year’s bells rang, but on the first day of the new year, the sun didn’t rise as usual.
At noon, a voice appeared in everyone’s minds.
“The Global Selection Examination has officially begun. Non-examination personnel will now enter a state of slumber. Please prepare yourselves.”
The voice was mechanical and strange, leaving people bewildered.
“Non-examination personnel have all entered slumber. All candidates, please prepare yourselves. The examination is about to begin.”
“Examination rules are as follows: Each examination room has a corresponding limit on the number of participants and will be randomly assigned. Deceased candidates will not be replaced. There are a total of nine examinations. Candidates who successfully submit their answers can proceed to the next examination room. Failure will result in erasure. Candidates who pass all examinations will become new citizens and return to the present world.”
“Each examination has a different time limit. Candidates, please make good use of your time to answer the questions.”
“The examination has officially begun.”
After this announcement, the original host found herself in an unfamiliar place, holding a card in her hand.
[You are a police officer investigating a suicide at a hotel. However, you discover that it is highly likely a murder. The deceased is named Little A, and the suspects are B, C, and D. Among these three, one is telling the truth, one is lying, and one is telling a half-truth. Please identify the murderer and submit your answer.]
Xin Lan: Why is there no memory of how the original host died? What about the scumbag?
Ling Jiu: The scumbag is already dead.

Welp …. confession finally haha, poor mc she wanted a confession, left kn sadness and now realized the person she grew to like is with her but now she doesn’t want to just accept cuz she feels used? Haha.
Welp just drama to the final confession I guess, I have sort of liked this series but tbh the romance is very, very lacking, it’s more of just seeing mc be cool and the quite different worlds compared to other QT’s
