Volume 3: Song of the Wanderer

    Great Demon King 09

    The Game of the Brave

Xin Lan hadn’t expected that in the few minutes she’d been gone, trouble would break out there.

When she walked into the living room, everyone was standing as far apart as possible, while Pi Tianzi’s small Western umbrella was piercing through Moli’s chest and abdomen.

That scream of agony had come from Moli, and beside her, Ke Xuguang held his cane, appearing somewhat dazed.

Pi Tianzi pulled her umbrella out, and blood sprayed forth.

The blood stained the lace umbrella, dripping down drop by drop.

“Someone like you might as well die sooner rather than later.”

Pi Tianzi’s face remained expressionless, but her tone was filled with satisfaction.

Moli clutched her wound and collapsed onto the sofa. She looked toward Ke Xuguang, who raised his cane and launched an attack at Pi Tianzi.

Pi Tianzi blocked his attacks with her umbrella, but there was still a clear difference in strength between men and women. She dodged in a somewhat frantic and awkward manner, hurriedly opening her umbrella.

The umbrella’s surface still had wet bloodstains, which scattered as she opened it.

The white umbrella surface instantly became spotted with blood, and Pi Tianzi, holding the umbrella, unexpectedly floated gently into the air.

At this point, Ke Xuguang had no way to attack her anymore.

“So that’s what her umbrella does,” Yu Wanyan murmured, floating behind Xin Lan.

    “It looks quite practical,”

    Xin Lan stroked her chin.

It could serve as a weapon and, when necessary, provide an escape.

“My item is even more powerful than hers. Don’t you want to try it?”

Xin Lan glanced at the violin and bow in her hands. Though not large, they were still cumbersome to hold, and she had no desire to use ghostly items without good reason.

Seeing Xin Lan merely holding them with apparent disinterest, Yu Wanyan felt somewhat disappointed.

Her violin was actually very powerful, and it could make one look really cool.

Moli’s face was contorted, deathly pale from her severe injury, with sweat dripping from her forehead. From her appearance, she was clearly in extreme pain.

The umbrella had pierced straight through her; in this situation, there was essentially no hope for survival.

No one dared to condemn anything, nor did anyone dare to show sympathy.

Pi Tianzi floated in the air watching Moli, feeling immensely pleased.

“I suppose you’ve long forgotten about me. That’s understandable, after all, someone like you who has been a third party in a relationship countless times couldn’t possibly remember stealing my man.”

Pi Tianzi watched as Moli writhed in death-like agony, speaking with a hint of mockery.

Moli’s blood had already stained red the palm pressing against her wound, the bloodstains particularly striking against her white dress.

“Someone like you deserves to be given a green hat. Even if I die now, so what? At least I’ve had my moments of satisfaction. Unlike you, you pathetic creature.”

Moli gasped for breath with difficulty, speaking intermittently. She probably knew there was no hope for survival and had stopped struggling, just staring at Pi Tianzi.

She wondered why this woman had shown such hostility toward her from the start, though she hadn’t paid it much mind – plenty of women had been hostile to her before.

“Pathetic? You’re the pathetic one, always doing things that can’t bear the light of day, despised by everyone. Your mother must have had eight lifetimes of bad luck to give birth to such a worthless person.”

Pi Tianzi, seeing this person about to die, felt satisfied with her revenge, yet this woman still dared to mock her.

She was nothing but a high-class prostitute, spending her days as someone’s mistress, concubine, or second wife, yet still maintaining an air of superiority.

In her opinion, that green hat shouldn’t be on that man’s head – it would suit this person better.

Xin Lan was about to leave after observing the clear outcome when Moli let out an even more agonized sound.

Her body suddenly curled up, her long hair stuck to her face with sweat.

“No! Save me, save me, please, save me…”

Moli cried out in desperation, feeling the tearing pain in her skin, looking pleadingly at everyone.

She let out a piercing scream that could almost rupture eardrums.

She collapsed onto the sofa, frantically covering her face.

Her hand was still covered in blood, and in her frantic movements, she had smeared blood all over her face, making it look terrifyingly grotesque.

But this wasn’t the most horrifying thing – the next moment brought an even more spine-chilling scene.

Moli’s skin seemed to be torn away by an invisible force, peeling off her face bit by bit.

Everyone could clearly see the flesh underneath, causing their stomachs to churn.

Sheng Lifan and the others couldn’t help but cover their mouths, struggling to control their urge to vomit.

    The scene was truly sickening.

Amidst Moli’s continuous cries of pain and screams, her skin continued to peel away piece by piece.

That face, stripped of skin and showing only flesh, was enough to give anyone nightmares.

Xin Lan’s brows were tightly furrowed as she turned away.

Finally, Moli became too weak to even scream, kneeling on the ground, seemingly taking more breaths in than out.

Her original wound had already been fatal enough, and now came this living flaying.

Before long, she stopped moving altogether.

By all appearances, she was dead.

The exposed subcutaneous tissue and the thick metallic smell of blood in the air caused the others to eye each other warily.

This was no longer a time for working together to find clues. Although one person had died, to advance to the floor above, another person would have to die.

Everyone had their own plans in mind, while Xin Lan returned to the stairwell.

“So you must try hard not to be eliminated, or I’ll have to eat you up,”

    Yu Wanyan said encouragingly.

“If I can get out of here, you can get out too, right?”

“Of course! Why else would we want our prey to win? Though even if you lose, it’s not a bad deal.”

Yu Wanyan openly revealed her intentions to Xin Lan – if they won, both could leave happily; if they lost, she would still possess this person. It was a win-win situation for her.

She wasn’t afraid of how Xin Lan might react to these words. Instead, she thought Xin Lan would be more determined to stand on her side after hearing this and work harder to find a way out.

“Where did you come from, why are you here?”

“Don’t know, we just arrived, and then a voice told us what we should do.”

“Do you remember anything from before?”

“No, but what does it matter? I’m already dead anyway.”

Yu Wanyan showed no interest in her past memories; she was more interested in the person before her.

Xin Lan wasn’t alone for long before footsteps sounded on the stairs.

Xin Lan watched as Qi Haolin tried to approach, using her violin to block his advance.

“Lanlan, please don’t be angry? You can see our situation now. Why don’t we team up first? I can protect you. Look, except for that woman who’s already killed someone, everyone else is male. You’re a girl alone – what if they target you?”

Qi Haolin waved his hand, indicating he meant no harm.

“We had that kind of relationship before, and I’d rather outsiders die than let anything happen to you. When we reach the third floor and have to go to the rooftop, we can separate then and compete fairly. How about it?”

The proposal sounded quite appealing, but Qi Haolin had still misjudged the situation.

Apparently, that kick earlier hadn’t taught him his lesson.

“Leave my sight within thirty seconds, and I might consider not taking action against you.”

What foolish daydreams, thinking she would cooperate with him.

She knew his intentions – he just wanted to use her as backup, eliminate the stronger opponents first, keeping the weak one along until fewer people remained upstairs, then the weak companion would be immediately slaughtered.

But Qi Haolin had miscalculated – standing before him was no longer a fragile little rabbit, but a terrifying demon king.

“If you don’t want to follow me, who do you want to follow? That pretty boy? Look at him, how could he possibly protect you? Don’t tell me after breaking up with me, even your taste has changed.”

Qi Haolin was already irritated because of his green hat, and now Xin Lan was telling him to leave. His words became caustic, his expression gloomy.

    “Seven seconds,”

    Xin Lan said.

Qi Haolin froze, realizing Xin Lan was counting down for his departure.

    “Three.”

    “Two.”

    “One.”

After finishing the countdown, Xin Lan directly kicked Qi Haolin down the stairs.

Caught off guard, Qi Haolin tumbled down.

    —Bang!

Xin Lan retracted her foot, thinking how annoying – she’d told him to leave but he wouldn’t.

She really didn’t want to kill him before reaching the top, yet this person kept asking for a beating.

That kick from Xin Lan nearly caused internal injury to Qi Haolin, and when he rolled down the stairs and hit the wall, his entire body ached.

Qi Haolin stood up, clenching his fists, his eyes bloodshot.

He charged up, trying to drag Xin Lan down.

Tolerating this once was enough – he’d be a fool to endure it again.

Worst case, he’d kill her first and deal with the rest upstairs.

Xin Lan caught his extended hand, twisted it back while simultaneously kicking at his lower body, forcing him to kneel on the stairs.

Fighting on stairs was difficult, and as Qi Haolin struggled to stand, Xin Lan grabbed his other arm, wrapped it around his neck, pulling backward while pressing one foot against his back, forcefully pushing Qi Haolin down.

Qi Haolin’s face pressed against the stairs, his exposed expression both bewildered and pained.

He couldn’t understand how Xin Lan had pinned him down so quickly. His internal turmoil of anger, embarrassment, shock, and surprise overwhelmed the physical pain. Especially with Xin Lan stepping on him now, he struggled hard but was grabbed by the hair and slammed against the sharp edge of the step. The impacted area immediately swelled and bruised, leaving Qi Haolin dizzy.

“I’ve told you several times – stay away from me, get out of my sight. Why can’t you understand simple words?”

Xin Lan released his arm but pressed her foot down harder on his back.

She really didn’t want to be so aggressive, but if this person insisted on irritating her, she didn’t care about the final score – she’d deal with him first.

Even after all that struggle, the vivid green hat on Qi Haolin’s head showed no signs of falling off.

Xin Lan suddenly sensed something and stepped back.

Qi Haolin took the chance to sit up, and beside him stood a female ghost with long hair covering her face.

    “Kill her.”

Qi Haolin touched his forehead, looking at Xin Lan with vicious eyes.
