Alone, Beautifully – Chapter 36

Don’t Want a Divorce (3)

Her susceptible period has arrived.

In the bright corridor lights.

Xu Jiao stood there wrapped in a pure white bathrobe. The robe only reached her knees, revealing the graceful curve of her well-shaped calves, which were neither too fleshly nor too thin, and her skin was flawlessly white, seemingly glowing like the moonlight.

Recalling Feng Qingyu’s earlier words, “Please restrain yourself,” a hint of amusement flashed in Xu Jiao’s eyes—

Interesting.

For a moment, she really wanted to show Feng Qingyu what the protagonists who looked exactly like her did in the previous two worlds. The word “restraint” should never be applied to herself.

She gently shook her head, with a fleeting, indifferent smile in her eyes that was soon covered by calmness.

The weather was slightly cool, indicating the arrival of autumn. Xu Jiao raised her hand to gather the robe around her. Strangely, the robe should have been soft and comfortable, but perhaps due to the lingering faint osmanthus pheromone on the clothes, combined with Feng Qingyu’s attitude towards her, she actually felt a bit uneasy.

It was like a mate driven out of its territory in nature, thick-skinned and hovering in the other’s domain, even having to rub their scent back onto themselves to seek the other’s acceptance.

Xu Jiao would never do such a humble thing.

The person who taught her self-respect and self-love would never want to see her become like this.

Xu Jiao’s cold gaze wandered the corridor. She instinctively wanted to walk back to her room but realized she hadn’t received the original owner’s memory and didn’t know where she lived in this villa.

Her step, just taken, retreated. With her eyes downcast, she said to the system, “Give me the original owner’s memory now.”

……

Feng Qingyu could sense the presence by the door was still there.

This Omega was always like this, skillful at feigning pity. With just a bit of softening towards her, she would immediately become overbearing. That’s her world, all smiles and gestures laden with intentions.

Although the Feng family was harmonious, there’s always some chaos in the upper circles, men abandoning their first wives for new partners, or having ten to twenty children, both legitimate and illegitimate. Children growing up in these messy families often become scheming at a young age.

Feng Qingyu could understand the helplessness in Xu Jiao’s growth but disliked using these tactics on herself.

Initially, she would soften, willing to give Xu Jiao appropriate care considering her as a legal partner. But greed knows no bounds, and recently, she found it increasingly unbearable.

Only her family—

Her parents and her brother particularly, seemed to like this delicate Omega Xu Jiao, falling for her feigned politeness and urging her not to be cold.

Thinking of this, Feng Qingyu couldn’t help frowning.

Just then, she heard a soft voice outside, likely her mother.

Outside.

Xu Jiao, who had been standing still for a long time, was digesting the story transmitted by the system about the original owner. When she came to her senses, another presence was beside her.

She smelled a faint but distinctly feminine pheromone, like roses or China roses.

Looking up, she saw a woman in a deep green lace dress holding a glass of milk. The woman resembled Feng Qingyu in some ways but had extremely beautiful features, exuding mature charm without any trace of age, even her hand holding the glass was as fair as the milk inside it.

Who would believe this woman had borne two children and was in her forties?

Xu Jiao, having just received the memory, knew this was Feng Qingyu’s mother, Shi Weiya, an Omega who had a youthful romance with Father Feng and had always loved each other.

Later, when Father Feng’s company faced a crisis, he worked tirelessly for a week to raise funds and had a stroke, sending him to the hospital, Shi Weiya stayed by his side day and night.

In the novel, in order to make the later character Feng Qingyu more tragic, Xu Jiao tapped the keyboard and arranged for Father Feng to have more severe symptoms. Because of a cerebral hemorrhage triggering a cerebral infarction, blocking his brain blood vessels, he remained unconscious in the hospital room.

The doctor examined the situation and believed that if he could wake up that night, the situation wouldn’t be severe. If he couldn’t wake up, it would become critical the next day.

All the members of the Feng family waited at the door of the hospital room for a long time—

Until the early morning of the next day.

Nobody received the long-awaited good news they hoped for.

The pillar of the Feng family fell. Shi Weiya fainted directly in the hospital. When she woke up and was brought back home by her children, she took sleeping pills and followed suit.

During that time, Feng Qingyu suffered consecutive blows of losing loved ones. It was Shangguan Yan who stayed by her side, constantly supporting her, pulling her out of that gloomy state.

When Xu Jiao saw Shi Weiya, a moment of astonishment flashed in her eyes. After all, writing is one thing; encountering one of the loving couple characters in person brings a different feeling.

In that fleeting moment from her perspective, Shi Weiya gently smiled at her, “Jiaojiao, why are you standing here so late? Look, you’re even barefoot…”

Shi Weiya furrowed her brows slightly, looking disapprovingly at her standing barefoot on the cold, tiled hallway floor. But midway through her sentence, she realized whose room entrance it was.

Combining the scent from Xu Jiao’s robe and the solitary figure now standing outside the door, Shi Weiya immediately realized what had happened.

Her smile faded slightly, and she said rather unhappily, “It must be Qingyu throwing a tantrum and bullying you again. I’ll go talk to her.”

Just as Shi Weiya freed her hand to knock on the door, Xu Jiao promptly stopped her, politely giving her a small smile. Her clean and pure face had a fresh and unworldly beauty, like a lotus swaying in the moonlight on a lotus pond.

Xu Jiao shook her head and replied softly, “No, Aunt Shi, I just remembered that I left my phone in the room and was about to go get it.”

She didn’t mention anything about Feng Qingyu’s attitude. Smiling gently at Shi Weiya, she then prepared to step toward her room.

Shi Weiya’s beautiful brows remained furrowed as she turned to remind her, “There’s no need to rush back just to get a phone, not even wearing shoes. The weather is still getting colder, what if you catch a cold? I’ve just heated a cup of hot milk, you should drink it quickly. When you go back to your room later, make sure to wear shoes.”

“We Omegas don’t have the same resilience as Alphas, even a bit of wind and rain can easily cause a cold. Jiaojiao, you need to take more care. Your work is already busy enough, how can you manage if you don’t take care of your health?”

Before Xu Jiao could react, Shi Weiya, with a maternal concern, pushed the milk into her hands, clearly intending to ensure she wore her shoes before going out again.

After finishing with Xu Jiao, Shi Weiya glanced at the tightly closed door of Feng Qingyu’s room. Having been through similar situations, she could tell that Xu Jiao was giving her child some face. The reality was far from simply retrieving a phone.

It was obvious that Feng Qingyu had driven her out.

Thinking of this, she felt a bit choked up and somewhat guilty towards Xu Jiao. Half-intentionally, she said towards the door, “Qingyu is really something, already an independent adult yet still so inconsiderate. I’ll have a good talk with her tomorrow.”

Xu Jiao, holding the milk that Shi Weiya had handed her, felt the warmth in her palms. Meeting Shi Weiya’s clearly concerned gaze, she was momentarily dazed before responding:

“No… no need, Aunt Shi.”

“She has already fallen asleep, so she doesn’t know that I came out.”

……

Inside the room.

Because Alpha’s physical constitution is superior to ordinary people, Feng Qingyu’s senses were not dull. She could even hear most of the conversation outside through the wooden door, which had some soundproofing effect.

Hearing Xu Jiao’s protective words, she furrowed her brows even tighter.

Here it comes again.

Feng Qingyu thought, this person is once again pretending to be considerate in front of her mother.

She didn’t want to hear those insincere words anymore. Turning over, she wrapped herself even tighter in the blanket, even pressing it over her ears, trying to block out all those unpleasant sounds.

But it seemed that fate particularly enjoyed opposing her—

The more Feng Qingyu wanted to sleep, the more she couldn’t. She even felt that the sweet scent of freesia lingering in the room hadn’t dissipated. She got up to search carefully but couldn’t find the source. When she lay down again, her attention diverted, and the scent would cling to her like a shadow.

Just as shameless as the owner of this scent.

As a result, Feng Qingyu slept restlessly, sweating profusely in the middle of the night. After finally falling asleep, she had a dream.

In the dream, she was panting, pressing an indistinct figure against the door. Following the sweet scent of pheromones, she bit down hard on the person’s nape, domineeringly injecting her own pheromones. She heard the low, timid voice, tinged with a weak sob, calling her:

“Feng Qingyu… mm… don’t, don’t do this…”

She let out a laugh, raising her hand to cup the person’s head, intending to assert her dominance. But when she looked closely—

Who else could this person be but Xu Jiao?

Even the body was exactly as she remembered.

……

“Hu.”

(If you're not reading on littlepandatranslations.com, it means this has been stolen)

Feng Qingyu was startled awake by this dream in the middle of the night.

Upon waking, she realized that her pheromones had spread throughout the entire room. In the quiet room, the sound of the air conditioner working could be heard. She was dazed for a couple of seconds before realizing that the concentration of pheromones in the air had reached a certain level, triggering the appliance’s detection system, which automatically initiated ventilation.

And the reason the pheromone concentration was so high was because…

She had entered her susceptible period.

An Alpha’s susceptible period intensely needs an Omega’s soothing.

She clearly hadn’t entered this state for a long time.

Feng Qingyu calmly stared at the ceiling for a while. Then, she once again smelled the faint, sweet freesia scent coming from the blanket.

Realizing exactly whose scent had lured her to this point—

Feng Qingyu, in a fit of frustration, got out of bed in the middle of the night, opened the closet, and took out a new set of sheets and blankets. In a fit of anger with herself, she spent a long time changing the bedding and even obsessively cleaned the entire room inside and out.
