Untoward Desires

The night was graceful, distant, and tranquil.

The light in a pair of clear, spirited eyes gradually faded, disappearing into the dimming night sky.

Wen Nuan had given many more instructions, but once the hour was up, she reverted to the numb state of one whose Primordial Spirit was fractured and incomplete.

Yu Wan Zhao walked before Wen Nuan. Taking advantage of the fact that Wen Nuan could not refuse her, she lowered her head and kissed her warm lips.

Unable to restrain her feelings, she took Wen Nuan’s lips into her mouth, then gently pried them open. Even without a response, it was enough to bring her endless satisfaction.

Soft, delicate, heart-stirring.

So what if Shizun’s feelings for me are merely that of a master for her disciple? A wicked thought has taken root in me; it cannot be extinguished, cannot be eliminated, and there is no salvation from it.

Those of the Demon Race would stop at nothing to achieve their goals.

She should be the same.

Yu Wan Zhao held Wen Nuan tightly in her embrace, her eyes as deep as the night. Even the dancing flames could not illuminate the profound darkness within them.

Zhong Baixuan had called her ungrateful, a traitor who deceived her master and destroyed her ancestors.

—And now.

“Shizun?” she murmured, her voice faint as she whispered by her master’s ear. “What am I to do? This disciple is afraid she truly is going to ‘deceive her master and destroy her ancestors.’”

She was already beyond redemption. She no longer feared the cruel cold of hell. If she could be stained by Wen Nuan, body and soul, before she died, she would have no regrets.

In the winding mountain ravine, a clear stream gurgled.

A waterfall cascaded down, as white as silk.

This Immortal’s Secret Realm was a place of scenic beauty, unlike the ancient battlefield with its ghostly wails and hair-raising horrors.

Yu Wan Zhao led Wen Nuan by the hand into this place of burial. The moment she stepped inside, a powerful pressure crushed her, forcing her to her knees. A mouthful of blood sprayed out without warning.

It could be worse, she thought. At least it didn’t trigger a lightning tribulation1.

Yu Wan Zhao let out a low laugh, surprised she could still crack a joke at a time like this.

Every inch was a struggle. With each step, it felt as if her bones were being forcibly snapped.

After only three steps, Yu Wan Zhao was already drenched in a cold sweat, her face as pale as paper from the immense pain. Her body trembled uncontrollably.

But she refused to let go of Wen Nuan’s hand, though she dared not grip it too tightly, for fear of hurting her.

In this burial ground, using demonic power was undoubtedly a way to send oneself into a state of eternal damnation.

Spiritual energy pulsed around Yu Wan Zhao. The immense pressure was directed only at her; Wen Nuan felt nothing at all, a fact for which Yu Wan Zhao was deeply grateful.

Taking a deep breath, Yu Wan Zhao forced herself forward a few more steps, enduring the great pain.

Head south.

Shizun had told her there was a Void Barrier to the south, so Yu Wan Zhao’s gaze was fixed firmly in that direction.

By the end, Yu Wan Zhao was practically crawling through the dirt, leaving a trail of blood behind her.

She could no longer hold Wen Nuan’s hand and had to use Quexie to pull the unconscious woman along.

One step, another step…

When they finally reached two crooked-neck willow trees, Yu Wan Zhao felt her very soul tremble.

The next second, the world went dark.

Yu Wan Zhao tightened her grip on Quexie, pulling Wen Nuan into her arms and holding her tight, even as her entire body felt as though it were being subjected to death by a thousand cuts2.

Thump—

A heavy impact sounded on a pile of maple leaves.

Yu Wan Zhao held Wen Nuan, letting her master land on top of her. She did not want Wen Nuan to be sullied by even a speck of dust.

If someone had to be stained with filth, it could only be her.

Beneath the azure sky, the maple leaves were as red as fire.

This place was like a secluded paradise, cut off from the world, breathtakingly beautiful.

Yu Wan Zhao glanced around and smiled helplessly. The most incongruous thing here was probably herself, covered in blood.

Enduring the pain, Yu Wan Zhao picked Wen Nuan up and sat her down in front of her. She used Quexie to draw a circle around them, a precaution so she could react immediately if anything unexpected happened.

She spread her five fingers, a faint spiritual energy pulsing in the gaps between them. Yu Wan Zhao sent the spiritual energy toward a maple leaf. The leaf drifted down lazily, seemingly nudged by a passing evening breeze.

The Void Barrier.

The pressure on her body was also slowly dissipating.

Yu Wan Zhao looked at Wen Nuan and smiled in relief. “Shizun, we found the Void Barrier.”

No one answered, but she kept smiling, even though the expression tugged at the inescapable pain all over her body.

Yu Wan Zhao scouted the area. They had landed in a large maple forest, the ground covered everywhere with fallen leaves.

Maple leaves fell silently, swaying with the wind, gently brushing against the beauty’s cheek.

The fiery red maples, the delicate beauty—it was a sight truly etched into one’s heart.

Yu Wan Zhao plucked a maple leaf from Wen Nuan’s hair. It was beautiful, but not worthy of her.

Caressing her cheek, Yu Wan Zhao pressed her forehead against Wen Nuan’s and said softly, “Shizun, let’s go find the inheritance. Once we do, you’ll be all better.”

The two walked out of the maple forest and were met with the sight of steep, towering cliffs. A stream weaved through the countless ravines; where the flow was broken, it surged with a leisurely yet magnificent passion, and where it flowed smoothly, it rushed onward without end.

As they walked, Yu Wan Zhao didn’t sense any danger. She didn’t even see many spirit beasts, insects, or birds. The only sounds were the faint crunch of their shoes on the dirt and the thunderous roar of the waterfall before them.

Yu Wan Zhao didn’t linger. She walked through the entire barrier and found no place with any trace of spiritual energy fluctuations. In the end, she could only return to the base of the waterfall to rest, planning to investigate the barrier together with Wen Nuan when she regained consciousness. After all, back in the ancient battlefield, it was Wen Nuan who had discovered the Demonic Soul Inheritance.

In her heart, her Shizun was omnipotent.

A gentle breeze blew past. The water in the pool beneath the waterfall was crystal clear, its turquoise surface rippling, sparkling in the light.

The wind swept maple leaves and fallen petals onto the lake’s surface, creating a tranquil and leisurely scene.

Yu Wan Zhao looked down at the blood on her body, which had soaked through her clothes. Thinking that she couldn’t let Shizun see her in this state, she glanced at the lake. She brought her master to the water’s edge so she could look after her easily.

Shedding her blood-stained clothes, Yu Wan Zhao stepped into the lake to wash herself.

She looked at Wen Nuan by the shore. Even though her master’s eyes were vacant and emotionless, Yu Wan Zhao felt that Wen Nuan was watching her, and her heart grew a little nervous and embarrassed.

Yu Wan Zhao swam to Wen Nuan, propping up her upper body to reveal the fair, graceful curve of her back. Her slender waist was half-hidden in the water. Crystalline droplets of water slid slowly down her butterfly bones3, dissolving into the water without a trace.

She held her breath, her heart thumping wildly. She raised a hand, her fingertips tracing Wen Nuan’s gentle brows, her pert nose, and those lips that haunted her dreams.

Why is Shizun so beautiful?

Yu Wan Zhao sighed with wonder again and again.

A hazy mist began to rise.

Yu Wan Zhao thought she saw Wen Nuan smiling at her, the corners of her lips turned up, her eyes filled with a tipsy smile. In those peach-blossom eyes, a flirtatious charm was on full display.

Shizun is so, so beautiful!

Yu Wan Zhao swallowed. She was thirsty, but this was a “thirst” that the lake water could not quench.

Her scorching gaze fell upon Wen Nuan’s lips. She felt that they could quench her “thirst.”

Her fair arms wrapped around Wen Nuan’s waist. Pushing herself up, she captured her lips.

Not enough, not enough…

A voice in her heart screamed that this wasn’t enough, that it couldn’t extinguish the thirst within her.

Her palm tightened, and Yu Wan Zhao pulled Wen Nuan into the water. She could feel Wen Nuan’s caress and touch.

Her fingertips were scalding, every touch feeling like it would be the death of her.

The lake water churned, and the waves it created slapped against the stones on the shore.

They were entangled in a death grip of passion. Even the cool lake water could not extinguish the heat and desire between them.

No one noticed the abnormality in the lake, for a thick fog had suddenly risen, shrouding its surface. If one were to look down from the top of the waterfall, they would only see a thick layer of clouds and mist, with no figures and no entanglement to be seen.

Today, Wen Nuan regained consciousness quickly, but the scene before her eyes made it impossible for her to think clearly.

The heat rolling through her body, Yu Wan Zhao pressing and rubbing against her, her ink-black eyes suddenly rippling with an indescribable bewilderment and the daze that comes after being lost in □□.

Wen Nuan pulled her hand out from under the water. If she had woken up a moment later, she was afraid she would have taken Yu Wan Zhao right there in the turquoise waves of the lake.

They were surrounded by a white mist. In her ears was Yu Wan Zhao’s ragged breathing. She was in agony, constantly doing things that Jinjiang4 does not allow. Her sharp teeth dared not touch, for fear of being censored.

Wen Nuan took a deep breath, forcefully suppressing the surging desire within her. She observed her surroundings and found that the white mist was rising, like a massive illusionary barrier, impossible to see through.

They were hidden by the white mist in the lake, left with only a small corner of the world to go to Mount Wu together5.

This Void Barrier held no danger, but Wen Nuan felt that its greatest danger was its ability to stimulate a person’s strongest desires and obsessions6.

Unfortunately for them, both she and Yu Wan Zhao f#cking wanted to sleep with each other.

Yu Wan Zhao had already been overcome by desire, hopelessly lost in feelings that Jinjiang does not allow. Wen Nuan restrained Yu Wan Zhao’s flailing limbs.

She let out pained and strained sounds of discomfort. With her hands and feet useless, she next wanted to do some things to Wen Nuan that Jinjiang does not allow.

Wen Nuan cursed under her breath, “There’s definitely something wrong with this barrier!”

Even if they were to do it, they couldn’t do it here. Who knew what ill intentions the master of this barrier had?

Since this barrier could amplify a person’s strongest desires and obsessions, it was undoubtedly pushing that person into the abyss of death.

Wen Nuan looked around. The white mist over the turquoise lake was growing thicker, and she could see less and less of her surroundings.

She looked at the lake’s surface. It was clearly transparent, yet she couldn’t touch the bottom.

Wen Nuan felt that something was very wrong.

She pinched the nape of Yu Wan Zhao’s neck, took a deep breath, and kissed her lips. With a forceful push of her palm, the two of them sank together to the bottom of the lake.

Yu Wan Zhao was lost in Wen Nuan’s kiss. Wen Nuan slowly opened her eyes in the water. The lake that appeared clear on the surface indeed held another world beneath.

Wen Nuan saw a vortex at the bottom of the lake. It was spinning slowly and was not easy to detect. If Wen Nuan hadn’t sensed the faint spiritual energy drifting from it, she might have overlooked that inconspicuous spot.

Wen Nuan swam toward the vortex, holding Yu Wan Zhao. As they drew near, the vortex’s suction suddenly intensified. Wen Nuan did not resist this pull. Holding Yu Wan Zhao tightly, the two were swept into the vortex by a powerful current, disappearing from the bottom of the lake.

The white mist on the lake’s surface quietly dispersed. Everything returned to how it was before—the water was clear, the waterfall majestic, the scenery boundlessly beautiful.

The world turned upside down.

In the blink of an eye, the two were carried by the current to a dark, secluded cave abode.

Wen Nuan landed, holding the unconscious Yu Wan Zhao, and looked at the altar before her, which was emitting a faint fluorescent light.

This must be the place of the immortal’s inheritance, she thought.

Yu Wan Zhao was stark naked, her clothes still on the shore outside. Wen Nuan took off her own outer robe and put it on Yu Wan Zhao. She wanted to place her on the stone bed on the altar but was met with great resistance.

Wen Nuan frowned. She could only place Yu Wan Zhao on a large rock and walk onto the altar wearing only her undergarments.

Whether a cultivator could obtain an immortal’s inheritance depended entirely on individual fortune.

Speaking of fortune, Wen Nuan felt that the original owner of her body’s fortune was quite good. She had reached the mid-stage of the Mahayana Realm at a young age. If she had relied solely on cultivation, the original owner would have probably needed to cultivate for several hundred years to reach the Mahayana Realm.

Wen Nuan sat on the stone bed, closed her eyes, and when she opened them again, she was looking at a phantom figure before her.

Her brow furrowed slightly as she looked at the phantom. “An immortal?”

The immortal sized her up, then glanced at Yu Wan Zhao below the altar. “That person possesses immeasurable merit and virtue. She is destined to become an immortal, and also… destined to become a demon.”

He could see Yu Wan Zhao’s demonic bloodline.

“Does the Immortal Lord favor her?”

Wen Nuan didn’t mind giving the immortal’s inheritance to the female lead. If the female lead accepted the inheritance, it would further stabilize the demonic spiritual power within her body. Then, she could just take her Primordial Spirit back.

The immortal scrutinized Wen Nuan and Yu Wan Zhao, his brow furrowing. “Why does she have your Primordial Spirit on her?”

Wen Nuan told him the truth. “I split my own Primordial Spirit to control the balance of demonic spiritual power in her body.”

“Split your Primordial Spirit?” The immortal was even more confused. “You’ve died once.”

Wen Nuan smiled faintly. “What does it matter, to die once for the one you love?”

The immortal’s eyes widened in disbelief. “You are both women?!”

“Naturally.”

“How can you love each other?”

“One can love if one has a heart.” Wen Nuan looked at the immortal. “It has nothing to do with gender, nothing to do with romance. It is only about where the heart lies.”

The immortal pinched his fingers to perform a divination, his brow tightly furrowed. He pondered for a long time. “You are both fated ones, but she…” He pointed at Yu Wan Zhao and said in a deep voice, “If she is allowed to grow, she will be a great catastrophe for the mortal world.”

Wen Nuan knew what catastrophe the immortal was talking about. It was nothing more than the original plot, where the female lead unified the human and demon realms as the supreme Demon Empress.

“Immortal Lord need not worry,” Wen Nuan said, raising her hand to look at Quexie on her ring finger. “My death is her death.”

The immortal was dumbfounded, staring at Quexie on her hand. “This love is so profound. There is actually a chance for a turn of events.”

Others might not know what Quexie was, but an immortal could divine its nature.

“I ask for the Immortal Lord’s guidance,” Wen Nuan said with a nod.

The immortal smiled faintly and waved his hand. “So be it. The matter of love is ever-changing. No matter how many times one divines it, there will always be many turning points.”

“It is just that your fortune seems to have run its course here,” the immortal said, looking at Wen Nuan with a deep voice.

Wen Nuan smiled faintly. “I have no regrets.”

“You are quite open-minded,” the immortal sighed. “For you and her to have come here, your fortune is already quite deep. This Lord has an inheritance to leave behind, which I will now bestow upon you. I hope you will cherish it.”

The immortal looked at Wen Nuan with regret. “Although you have no fate with the Heavenly Dao7, this can still ensure that all goes smoothly for you.”

Wen Nuan knelt before the immortal, her palms together, and said sincerely, “Thank you, Immortal Lord.”

The immortal’s finger tapped between Wen Nuan’s brows. His lips parted slightly, and in an instant, the cave was filled with a brilliant golden light. Wen Nuan could feel a powerful spiritual energy pouring into her body, and her own half-shattered Primordial Spirit was being repaired, bit by bit.

The sound of a bell echoed in her ears. Wen Nuan opened her eyes. Late-stage Mahayana. She was just one step away from undergoing tribulation and becoming an immortal.

Wen Nuan watched as a white light in the void silently descended and landed between Yu Wan Zhao’s brows.

“Since you’re both here, you can’t leave empty-handed.” The immortal sighed, lowering his divining fingers. “Consider it a wedding gift from me for when you get married later.”

To have met is to be fated.

Wen Nuan bowed and smiled gracefully. “Many thanks, Immortal Lord.”

The immortal’s figure faded away, disappearing into the void as if he had never been there.

The next second, the cave began to dissipate. Lake water rushed in. Wen Nuan held Yu Wan Zhao and floated to the surface with the current.

Just as Wen Nuan was about to swim back to the shore with Yu Wan Zhao, she discovered that the person in her arms was already awake.

Yu Wan Zhao’s eyes were wide with disbelief, looking at the two of them, practically naked and embracing, while she herself was coiled around Wen Nuan like a long snake.

The distinct marks on Wen Nuan’s lips, her neck, her collarbones—they were all likely her doing.

“Shi… Shizun?” Yu Wan Zhao saw the clarity in Wen Nuan’s eyes; she had clearly regained her senses.

She said with a trembling voice, “I… this disciple… I…”

She couldn’t remember what she had done before, but right now, it was just her and Shizun. She couldn’t argue her way out of this.

Yu Wan Zhao hung her head powerlessly. “Shizun, if you want to kill me, can you wait until after we find the immortal’s inheritance to kill this disciple?”

Wen Nuan’s interest was piqued. She asked deliberately, “Why?”

“This disciple wants to see Shizun fully recovered. Only then can this disciple die at Shizun’s hands with peace of mind.”

Yu Wan Zhao couldn’t rest easy about Wen Nuan. If her Primordial Spirit hadn’t recovered and she died, who would take care of Shizun?

In truth,

She couldn’t rest easy with anyone else.

“Why would I kill you?” The corner of Wen Nuan’s mouth lifted slightly.

Yu Wan Zhao lowered her head. She wanted to distance herself from Wen Nuan, but the hand on her waist was clamped too tightly, leaving them no choice but to press against each other.

“This disciple has overstepped, bringing humiliation and shame upon Shizun.”

No matter how shocking or rebellious her thoughts were, the moment she faced Wen Nuan’s questioning, everything seemed to crumble, fragile and unable to withstand a single blow.

Seeing her about to lower her head into the water, Wen Nuan chuckled helplessly. “You did not overstep. It was this master who overstepped.”

“What?” Yu Wan Zhao raised her head, confused.

Wen Nuan caressed her cheek, looking into her astonished eyes.

She lowered her head and kissed her lips, her voice deep and magnetic.

“It is this master who has overstepped, by developing untoward desires for you.”
