When the Female Lead Becomes Obsessive – Chapter 34

Volume Two: Those Years When I Was the School Bully

Inaction

Wen Nuan had never thought Song Ci would like her, never once considered it.

Song Ci was someone who hid her emotions very well, almost never letting them show. Having spent over a full year with Song Ci, Wen Nuan had only managed to grasp some of Song Ci’s moods.

It was precisely because Song Ci’s emotions were so indifferent that Wen Nuan had thought of confessing to the male lead1 in front of everyone2, thereby stimulating an outburst of Song Ci’s emotions.

Looking at it now, the emotions had indeed burst forth—all f%cking directed at her.

This was the first time she had seen Song Ci’s eyes redden in front of her, and the first time she had seen Song Ci so angry.

Wen Nuan pulled out a cigarette and started smoking. “Why did it turn out like this again?”

【Now that we’ve confirmed the female lead’s blackening value is rising because of you, everything makes sense.】The System sorted through the plot developments of the past few days.

【Your previous confession to the male lead caused the female lead to blacken. Then, you told the female lead to get together with the male lead, which intensified the growth of her blackening value. Just now, you said the reason the female lead rejected the male lead disgusted you, causing the female lead to detest you utterly, and her blackening value increased again.】

Detest utterly?

Wen Nuan thought of the look in Song Ci’s eyes as she left.

The redness at the bottom of her eyes, the tears that stubbornly refused to fall, the emotions brimming within them were too full.

Like a surging tsunami, crashing down suddenly, engulfing her.

The System saw Wen Nuan smoke one cigarette after another and asked: 【What do you plan to do?】

The fact that the female lead liked Wen Nuan was awkward. If it were in the past, it would definitely have told Wen Nuan to try things out with Song Ci, using emotion to lower the blackening value. But now, Wen Nuan had someone else in her heart; she wouldn’t use the same method on the female lead again.

After all, Song Ci wasn’t You Jiayi.

“…I don’t know.” Wen Nuan suddenly felt helpless, at a loss.

She felt as if she had no way out, standing alone and helpless.

Song Ci liked her, but she couldn’t use emotions to deceive Song Ci just to eliminate the blackening value.

She was different from You Jiayi.

【If the fluctuations in the female lead’s blackening value are fundamentally caused by you, then this mission will be very difficult to continue.】The System sighed.

Wen Nuan pressed her temples, which were throbbing with pain. “What if I just transfer schools and leave directly?”

Simply disappear from Song Ci’s sight. As time passed, maybe Song Ci would forget her.

At most, she would just stay in this world a bit longer, slowly enduring it.

【That’s possible.】The System was still worried. 【But I’m afraid that if you suddenly transfer, the female lead will think you’re running away because you despise her feelings, causing her blackening value to instantly jump to 10. Then, both of us will be expelled from this world.】

That possibility certainly existed. The last time she confessed to the male lead and immediately transferred schools, it had already caused Song Ci to blacken.

If it happened again, Song Ci’s blackening value would definitely hit the peak.

Wen Nuan exhaled the last puff of smoke and tossed the cigarette butt out the window.

She sighed deeply, looked at the green mountains in the distance, and said faintly, “Then let’s just do nothing.”

The System asked doubtfully: 【What do you mean, do nothing?】

Wen Nuan pursed her lips. “No matter what happens to Song Ci, I won’t interfere anymore. Let her completely give up on me. When all the affection turns into hatred, maybe the blackening value will be easier to lower.”

By then, Song Ci would hate her, resent her, and resolving the blackening value would be much simpler.

Either she completely leaves Song Ci, never appearing by her side again, or she gets ruthlessly retaliated against by Song Ci?

Either way, it was much easier than Song Ci liking her.

【You mean, even if Song Ci continues to be bullied at school, you won’t care?】

Her fingers curled slightly. Wen Nuan bit her lower lip. “…Yeah.”

【Are you sure?】The System was still uneasy. 【Do you really have to be this ruthless?】

If she wasn’t ruthless, Song Ci would still hold onto a sliver of affection for her. That wouldn’t help complete the mission at all.

Her temper was also stubborn; she wouldn’t turn back until she hit a wall3.

So she would build that wall solid, let Song Ci smash her head against it until she was bruised and bleeding4, then she wouldn’t worry about her not turning back.

It was unknown where the rumor started, but it spread that Zhao Wen Nuan wanted to get Lu Yi, but Lu Yi rejected Zhao Wen Nuan, saying he liked Song Ci. Zhao Wen Nuan, burning with rage5 and having lost face completely, consequently made harsh remarks, signifying a complete break with Song Ci.

At first, people didn’t believe this rumor, until they saw Zhao Wen Nuan really distancing herself from Song Ci.

They no longer sat together, nor did they eat lunch together.

Even when they passed each other, they didn’t even make eye contact or greet each other.

Like two unfamiliar strangers.

Some busybodies6 started actively probing to see if their relationship had truly broken down as rumored.

When someone deliberately bumped into Song Ci, Zhao Wen Nuan remained indifferent.

When someone deliberately spilled water on Song Ci, Zhao Wen Nuan ignored it.

When someone deliberately tripped Song Ci, making her fall, Zhao Wen Nuan paid no attention.

When someone tore up Song Ci’s notes and books right in front of Zhao Wen Nuan, Zhao Wen Nuan still remained unmoved…

Everyone in school believed that Zhao Wen Nuan and Song Ci had completely fallen out.

Some wondered why Zhao Wen Nuan wasn’t bullying Song Ci. After all, Song Ci had “stolen” Lu Yi; shouldn’t Zhao Wen Nuan target Song Ci?

Later, someone unafraid of death went to ask Zhao Wen Nuan. Zhao Wen Nuan only said one thing, “Touching her? I’d feel dirty.”

【The blackening value is already 9.6. Are you going to continue?】The System sounded weary.

Wen Nuan played with the small mirror in her hand. She had gotten it from Zhang Wei’s deskmate, Yan Ni7, using its reflection to observe Song Ci’s condition in the back row.

Song Ci was silent as always. Faced with others’ bullying, apart from her resistance on the first day she returned, it was endless silence and acceptance afterward.

Wen Nuan felt Song Ci was like a balloon, slowly accepting everything, good or bad, until she was stretched to the limit and suddenly exploded, blowing everyone, including herself, to smithereens8.

That was Song Ci’s original ending.

Back then, if Lu Yi and she hadn’t intervened, Qiang-ge would have stripped Song Ci naked, gang r%ped her, stolen her necklace, and taken explicit photos of her to threaten her for more money.

Unable to bear the humiliation, Song Ci reported it to the police. When Qiang-ge found out she had reported him, he distributed her nude photos.

The police arrested and convicted Qiang-ge. Because she had been gang r%ped and due to the nude photo incident, Song Ci suffered immense bullying at school and was locked on the school rooftop overnight.

That night, there was a fierce storm with wind, rain, lightning, and thunder.

The next day, however, the weather was clear with boundless blue skies9. People found Song Ci’s body lying on the rooftop.

She had committed suicide by slitting her wrists; blood flowed everywhere, dyeing the horizon red.

Wen Nuan took out her phone and looked at the weather forecast. Tonight was thunderstorm weather.

She stood up and went to find Lu Yi in Class One.

By the time Wen Nuan returned, Song Ci was no longer at her seat.

Yu Zitong really didn’t learn her lesson.

The small mirror kept shaking in Wen Nuan’s hand. Wen Nuan stared blankly at the blackboard, her eyes unfocused.

A loud clap of thunder echoed from the horizon, startling the entire class into shrieks.

Evening self-study was supposed to be free time anyway. With this weather, everyone quickly packed their bags, ready to go home.

Wen Nuan looked outside the door. Yu Zitong and a few other girls walked past the classroom entrance, unconcealed triumph and gloating/schadenfreude10 on their faces.

Her chest heaved violently. Wen Nuan felt a heavy tightness in her heart. With a flick of her wrist, she slammed the small mirror hard onto the desk.

The mirror shattered, cutting Wen Nuan’s palm.

The people in the classroom jumped, freezing in place, looking at Wen Nuan with fear and trepidation, daring neither to move nor speak.

Wen Nuan looked at the wound on her palm. Outside, the torrential rain poured down.

She kicked Zhang Wei’s stool. “Give me a Band-Aid.”

Zhang Wei immediately took out a Band-Aid from his bag. “Zhao-jie, let me put it on for you?”

Wen Nuan held out her hand. She looked at the others. “Get the hell out!”

Eyesores.

Hearing this, everyone immediately grabbed their bags and ran out.

The rain grew heavier, mixed with lightning and thunder. Soon, the classroom was empty, leaving only Wen Nuan alone.

The lights were off. She lit a cigarette, watching the driving rain outside.

Time ticked away on her phone, bit by bit, second by second.

Wen Nuan never heard the sound of banging on the door panel. She had the System constantly monitor the situation on the rooftop.

“Hasn’t Lu Yi gone over yet?”

The System nodded: 【Mm-hmm, the female lead is getting soaked really badly. There’s not even a place to shelter from the rain on the rooftop.】

Veins pulsed on Wen Nuan’s forehead. She gritted her teeth. “What the f%ck is that f%cking idiot doing?”

She stood up, extinguished the cigarette in her palm, and walked out.

The burning pain was insignificant compared to the anxiety in her heart.

Arriving at Senior Year 3, Class One, there weren’t many people left in the classroom, just a few students still studying.

Wen Nuan saw Lu Yi still teaching someone how to solve a problem, became furious11, kicked a desk aside, grabbed Lu Yi fiercely by the collar, and raged, “What the f%ck did I12 tell you this afternoon?”

Lu Yi was about to curse Wen Nuan for going crazy again, but her question made him freeze.

He immediately asked the person next to him, “What time is it now?”

The student who was being taught stammered fearfully, “It’s already 7:15.”

Lu Yi exclaimed in shock, “Holy sh%t!” He looked at the angry Wen Nuan before him. “I… I did a few practice papers, got too absorbed, and forgot the time.”

Wen Nuan had no time for his explanations. She dragged him outside. “Hurry up, go to the fifth-floor rooftop, get Song Ci out.”

She had specifically told Lu Yi in the afternoon to go rescue Song Ci at six o’clock. As a result, Song Ci had been drenched in heavy rain for an hour, and this guy was still f%cking absorbed in doing practice papers.

He really deserved not being able to win Song Ci over.

“Rescue Song Ci?” Lu Yi stumbled a few steps as Wen Nuan pulled him. “Song Ci was really locked on the rooftop?”

He thought Zhao Wen Nuan was joking with him, so he hadn’t paid much attention.

Wen Nuan was furious: “Do I look like I have nothing better to do than joke around with you?”13

Lu Yi said helplessly, “…You f%cking mysteriously told me Song Ci would be locked on the rooftop and asked me to save her. Don’t you think what you said sounds a bit fantastical?”

In the middle of the afternoon, under the blazing sun, Zhao Wen Nuan suddenly told him Song Ci would be locked on the school rooftop getting drenched in the rain.

Lu Yi hadn’t taken it seriously at all back then. Leaving aside whether Song Ci would actually be locked on the rooftop and drenched, Zhao Wen Nuan was the one who told him. Even if he didn’t get there in time, couldn’t Zhao Wen Nuan have gone to save Song Ci first?

There was absolutely no need to drag him along, right?

“You really are a blockhead14. I painstakingly15 helped you pursue Song Ci, and now you’re ungrateful?” Wen Nuan was truly speechless at the male lead.

Lu Yi frowned, shaking off Wen Nuan’s hand. “Zhao Wen Nuan, can’t you see that Song Ci likes you?”

Wen Nuan paused. “…I can’t see it.”

Seeing her like this, Lu Yi knew she understood perfectly well in her heart. “You’re avoiding Song Ci. Even though you knew Song Ci would be locked on the rooftop today, getting rained on and freezing, the only thing you thought of was having me come rescue her, instead of going yourself?”

Wen Nuan didn’t answer him.

“Are you afraid that Song Ci won’t be able to let go of you because of this?” Lu Yi hit the nail on the head.

The two arrived at the rooftop door; it was already locked.

Wen Nuan looked at the male lead, pointed at the door, and ordered, “Kick it open.”

The rooftop door was a thick, reinforced large iron door. Lu Yi kicked it several times but couldn’t open it.

Wen Nuan shoved Lu Yi aside, cursing, “Are all those muscles of yours f%cking fake?”

“…..” Lu Yi retorted, “I’ve worked out too, lifted weights!”

“Lifted weights? Scrap metal, more like.” Wen Nuan kicked the iron door fiercely, making it clang loudly.

Lu Yi watched Wen Nuan’s ferocious display and shut up.

He didn’t know what this girl ate growing up to be so strong.

Wen Nuan kicked several more times, only managing to create a small gap.

Lu Yi stepped forward: “Let me do it.”

“Get lost!” Wen Nuan was now extremely worried that Song Ci might commit suicide; her tone was frantic and agitated.

She seemed somewhat crazed.

Lu Yi watched Wen Nuan kicking the door like a madwoman, blow after blow, seemingly using all her strength, her eyes bloodshot, looking like a Rakshasa16.

Wen Nuan crossed her arms and slammed her shoulder and back into the iron door.

Lu Yi thought he heard a distinct cracking sound of bone, but saw Wen Nuan standing there perfectly fine, looking as if nothing had happened.

Wen Nuan first glanced at the ground to ensure there were no bloodstains, and the heavy stone in her heart finally lifted.

She looked at the stunned Lu Yi beside her and kicked him. “Hurry up, go save her!”

Lu Yi snapped back to reality and was about to run in. “You… you’re not coming with me?”

Wen Nuan glanced at the rooftop, turned, and went downstairs. “Don’t tell Song Ci I was here.”

Lu Yi gave Zhao Wen Nuan a deep look, then turned and ran onto the rooftop, seeing Song Ci huddled in a corner, about to collapse.

He ran over and picked Song Ci up, calling out anxiously, “Song Ci? Song Ci? How are you?”

Song Ci slowly opened her eyes, looking at Lu Yi before her.

Why did she seem to vaguely hear Wen Nuan’s voice?

“Wen… Wen Nuan?” she murmured softly, then fainted.

Hearing Song Ci’s words, Lu Yi let out a long sigh and carried Song Ci towards the school infirmary.

Wen Nuan emerged from the stairwell corner. Seeing Lu Yi take Song Ci to the infirmary, she finally felt relieved.

【Is your shoulder okay?】The System asked worriedly.

Wen Nuan rubbed her shoulder, and with a sharp twist, popped her dislocated shoulder back into place.

She shook her head, looked up, and said, “It’s fine. Won’t stop me from settling accounts.”

Yu Zitong saw the rain outside had lessened somewhat. Thinking about going clubbing with her friends tonight, she excitedly packed her things and headed out.

As soon as she stepped out, she saw Zhao Wen Nuan standing before her.

Those cold eyes stared at her, making her heart tremble.

A “Under Maintenance” sign was placed on the door of the women’s restroom.

Sounds of muffled, frightening moans occasionally came from inside the restroom, paired with the stormy night outside, creating an inexplicably creepy atmosphere.

Wen Nuan looked at Yu Zitong, who was paralyzed collapsed on the floor, gasping for breath17. She removed the rag stuffed in her mouth, patted her cheek, and smiled. “I don’t want to see you at school tomorrow. Otherwise, you’ll really die at my hands, understand?”

Yu Zitong’s eyes were filled with terror. Tears streamed down her face as she stammered, “…Mm-hmm.”

Wen Nuan grabbed her hair, her tone light. “Although Song Ci and I have fallen out, she was my good friend before, after all. I could tolerate minor squabbles18, but you actually f%cking locked her on the rooftop in the rain. If anything happened to her, I’ll make sure you, Yu Zitong, including your father, your mother, your brother, can’t survive in Ningjiang City. Do you believe me or not?”

Yu Zitong instantly turned deathly pale, her chin trembling, sobbing, “Okay, okay, I know I was wrong, I know I was wrong…”

Wen Nuan kicked Yu Zitong hard again. Yu Zitong curled up in pain. Even though it hurt immensely, she didn’t dare cry out, only letting out muffled groans of pain.

Wen Nuan smoked a cigarette, calming her emotions slightly.

The bloodlust and viciousness in her eyes slowly faded. Exhaling a breath, she turned and left the restroom.

Yu Zitong hugged herself tightly, shrinking into a corner, crying softly, her eyes filled with panic and fear.

She could keenly feel just now that Zhao Wen Nuan wanted to kill her.

The marks on her neck were turning purple.

Zhao Wen Nuan wanted to strangle her, really wanted to strangle her!

Passing the infirmary, Lu Yi had gone with the school nurse to the dean’s office to explain the situation, leaving Song Ci alone, lying pale on the bed with an IV drip in her hand.

Wen Nuan placed Song Ci’s hand, which was dangling over the edge of the bed, back under the covers, but felt it was as cold as ice.

She touched the IV tube; it wasn’t too cold. Why was the hand Song Ci had the IV in so cold?

It was the same problem as You Jiayi.

Wen Nuan found a hot water bottle in the nurse’s cabinet, filled it with hot water, and placed it under Song Ci’s hand with the IV.

She reached out to brush the damp hair away from Song Ci’s eyes. Just as she was about to leave, she saw Lu Yi at the door.

The two looked at each other without speaking.

Wen Nuan walked over. “Take care of Song Ci. I’m leaving first.”

“En,” Lu Yi looked at Wen Nuan’s shoulder. “Is your arm okay?”

When he was explaining the situation to the dean just now, he remembered that crisp cracking sound of bone. It must have come from Zhao Wen Nuan’s arm.

Wen Nuan shrugged her shoulder and smiled. “It’s fine. Gone.”

Lu Yi watched Wen Nuan’s departing figure and sighed.

Turning back into the room, he saw Song Ci, who should have been asleep, had opened her eyes.

Seeing her looking over, Lu Yi sighed again.

What a mess this whole thing was.

The author has something to say:

Female lead: Weren’t you practicing inaction? Let’s see you practice inaction in bed.

Wen Nuan: No way!

System: No way, my Host can’t just lie flat!
