When the Female Lead Becomes Obsessive – Chapter 212

Volume Nine: The Years I Was a Witch

Blackening Value

【The female lead’s blackening value1 is increasing. Current blackening value is 9.3!】 the System shrieked in terror.

Wen Nuan’s expression was calm, as if the sudden increase in the blackening value had no effect on her.

She sat on the living room sofa, took a sip of warm tea, and gave a faint “en”.

Seeing she was as calm as still waters2, the System asked, 【You already knew the blackening value would rise?】

Wen Nuan nodded. “From the moment you told me I was going to die, I knew the blackening value would rise.”

【The blackening value is rising so fast, and your life is about to end. Are you planning to give up on this world?】 the System asked nervously.

Wen Nuan didn’t answer it, instead calmly watching You Dai’er, who had suddenly appeared before her.

She was like a prisoner chased to a dead end, her blood-colored eyes fixed on Wen Nuan.

The emotions in her eyes were too complex, but Wen Nuan could still clearly identify several of them.

Grief, pain, anger, despair, helplessness, and sorrow…

“Busy? All done?” Wen Nuan ignored the heart-wrenching emotions.

You Dai’er didn’t answer her question, asking something else instead.

“You already knew, didn’t you?”

Wen Nuan took a sip of tea and said calmly, “What?”

“Your witch bloodline and vampire bloodline are incompatible. You don’t have long to live?”

Wen Nuan lowered her eyes. “I’ve said it before. All humans walk toward death.”

“You’re not human. You’re a vampire.”

“Vampires die too, don’t they?”

Wen Nuan’s indifferent attitude infuriated You Dai’er. She ground out through clenched teeth, “You lied to me?”

Wen Nuan looked at her, her gaze apathetic. “What did I lie to you about?”

You Dai’er choked, her lips parting slightly, but she couldn’t utter a single word of rebuttal.

From beginning to end, Wen Nuan had never promised her anything. She had never even said the word “like” to her.

She clenched her fists and roared, unable to contain her fury, “You’re getting revenge on me, aren’t you?”

“What is there about you worth my revenge?” Wen Nuan smiled, puzzled. “Or did you do something to me that makes you think I’m getting revenge on you?”

You Dai’er pressed her lips together, remaining silent.

Wen Nuan set down her teacup. “How about I say it for you?”

You Dai’er wanted to stop her, but Wen Nuan airily spoke the sordid secrets in the depths of her heart.

“As a third-generation vampire primogenitor, there has never been anything you couldn’t obtain. Whatever you want, you must possess it, even if it means by deception, by force, or by intimidation.”

“You said you liked me the first time you saw me, that it was love at first sight. But have you ever considered that it was just your possessiveness toward me? It wasn’t love. It was just your desire for control acting up. To you, I was just a piece of private property. When you liked me, you’d care for me tenderly, but if you grew tired of me, you’d cast me aside like a pair of worn-out shoes3.”

You Dai’er’s face turned ugly as she rushed to deny it. “I didn’t…”

Wen Nuan didn’t rush to refute You Dai’er’s defense, instead asking softly, “Is that so?”

You Dai’er stared into Wen Nuan’s eyes. The expectation within them was like an invisible button, locking her throat tight and preventing her from uttering another word.

Receiving no answer from You Dai’er, Wen Nuan couldn’t help but clutch her stomach and burst out laughing.

“Hahaha…..”

The sarcasm in her laughter pierced one’s heart and body with pain, like countless dense needles penetrating flesh.

You Dai’er’s back hunched, and she watched helplessly as Wen Nuan roared with laughter on the sofa.

Wen Nuan wanted to cry, but vampires were too cold-blooded; they had no tears to shed. She couldn’t even feel the stinging sensation in her eyes. She could only laugh, using loud laughter as a substitute for wailing in grief.

“WAAH——”

Wen Nuan laughed until she was gasping for breath. A mouthful of blood surged up, staining the carpet.

You Dai’er’s pupils shrank. She shot forward and caught Wen Nuan in her arms.

Her hands trembled as she gently wiped the blood from the corner of her mouth.

“I just wanted you. I just wanted to be with you forever, that’s all.”

She admitted she had used certain methods to obtain Wen Nuan.

Back then, Wen Nuan had been too cold to her, too formidable, as if she had erected bronze walls and iron ramparts4 around herself. No matter how You Dai’er battered them, she refused to reveal even a sliver of a crack. She truly had no other way; she could only change her strategy.

You Dai’er had also thought it was just her possessiveness acting up, that the more Wen Nuan resisted her, the more she wanted to have her.

But after truly being with her, she discovered how special Wen Nuan was to her.

She had possessiveness, but she also had love.

Lying weakly in You Dai’er’s arms, Wen Nuan let out a light, relieved laugh. “I don’t blame you. Because we’re the same kind of person. You are unscrupulous, and I am selfish. We were never meant to owe each other anything.”

“No, no, I owe you, Wen Nuan! It’s me who owes you! How do you want me to repay you? How do you want to get revenge on me?” You Dai’er hugged her tighter.

She felt like Wen Nuan was giving her last words, and she was so, so scared.

“Please, don’t die, okay?”

You Dai’er’s body trembled uncontrollably, her pupils quivering.

The System’s pain blocker was becoming less and less effective. Several times, Wen Nuan was in so much pain that her whole body trembled, scaring You Dai’er to the point of near collapse.

You Dai’er couldn’t think of any other way to save Wen Nuan. A powerful third-generation vampire primogenitor was utterly useless at this moment.

Faced with Wen Nuan’s suffering, she was completely helpless. All she could do was hold Wen Nuan when she was in pain and let her bite her.

That was all.

When Pu Ye was captured by You Dai’er, she was very calm, because she had long known You Dai’er would do this.

She looked at the sleeping Wen Nuan on the bed. “Dragging me here is of no use. I can’t save her.”

You Dai’er grabbed Pu Ye by the back of the neck and slammed her head against the side of the bed.

Such a loud commotion didn’t even wake Wen Nuan.

Blood trickled down from her temple, blurring Pu Ye’s vision. She endured the pain and said, “Even if you kill me, I still can’t save her.”

You Dai’er said fiercely, “I don’t believe you. You must have a way. Weren’t you the one who taught Wen Nuan the forbidden spell to seal me back then?”

“This is different,” Pu Ye blinked, the sensation of blood dripping into her eye unpleasant. “In Wen Nuan’s situation, no forbidden art can save her.”

The top of You Dai’er’s head went slightly numb. She released Pu Ye. “How much time does she have left?”

Pu Ye collapsed weakly to the floor and said in a heavy voice, “Three days at most.”

Her nose itched. You Dai’er rubbed the tip of her nose. The feeling that surfaced in her heart was foreign to her.

And yet, she felt this feeling was just right.

Pu Ye sighed and got up to leave.

“You turned your lover into a vampire, making his life eternal, but you are not. Was doing that worth it?”

Pu Ye stopped. “What is ‘worth it’?”

“Primogenitor, for everything you do, must you seek a reason for whether it’s worth it or not?”

Confusion and bewilderment showed in You Dai’er’s eyes. “Isn’t that how it is? You need a reason for doing anything, and that reason proves whether what you did was worth it or not.”

Pu Ye smiled. “Perhaps. Since the Primogenitor has asked, I can answer you in your terms.”

“It was worth it.”

“As long as I could save him, even if it meant a life for a life, I was willing.”

You Dai’er looked at the sleeping Wen Nuan and asked softly, “If it were a life for a life, could you save her?”

Pu Ye froze, looking at You Dai’er in disbelief.

She opened her mouth, suppressing her horror. “Still… can’t be saved.”

You Dai’er hung her head, blinking. She felt a pang of misery.

Pu Ye said no more and turned to leave the villa.

Wen Nuan grew weaker and weaker, and she slept more and more soundly. Several times, You Dai’er couldn’t wake her and had to resort to forceful means to rouse her.

Wen Nuan looked at her bitten fingertip and said helplessly, “Can’t you bite a little more gently?”

You Dai’er said, looking aggrieved, “If I bite gently, you don’t wake up.”

“Forget it, I won’t argue with you.” Wen Nuan started to get out of bed, but her body went limp. If You Dai’er hadn’t caught her in time, she probably would have collapsed right onto the floor.

You Dai’er’s brow twitched. She lifted Wen Nuan into her arms, carried her back to the bed, and laid her down. “Where are you trying to go?”

“I’ve been lying down for so long,” Wen Nuan said, looking out the window. “The sun is nice today. I want to go for a walk.”

“Don’t go out. The sunlight is too harsh, you won’t be able to stand it.”

“I have the earring you gave me. I’ll be fine.”

“It doesn’t work… does it?”

Pu Ye had told her that the so-called sunlight spiritual artifact had very little effect on Wen Nuan.

If she stood under the harsh sun, she would still suffer the pain of being scorched by its rays.

Wen Nuan froze for a moment, then sighed. “You know everything?”

You Dai’er said in a hoarse voice, “En.”

“It’s really fine. I won’t stay long, just to warm up for a little while, okay?”

Seeing how much she wanted to go out, You Dai’er couldn’t bear to refuse and reluctantly agreed. “Just for a little while?”

Wen Nuan smiled. “En en, just for a little while. If I stay too long, you can carry me back.”

“Okay.”

You Dai’er carried Wen Nuan out of the room and found a rocking chair to place in the sun.

She carefully placed Wen Nuan in the rocking chair, while she herself sat to the side, her hands on the armrests, watching Wen Nuan without blinking.

The sun felt truly warm on her body, but that warmth didn’t last long. The wind blew in a cloud, and with it came a torrential downpour.

Wen Nuan sighed. “What a pity. I thought it was going to be a nice day. I really wanted to properly bask in the sun.”

The raindrops grew larger. You Dai’er lifted both Wen Nuan and the chair and carried them into the villa.

The two of them sat by the floor-to-ceiling window, watching the heavy rain. The downpour was fierce, the wind howled, and the gloomy atmosphere was so oppressive it felt hard to breathe.

Seeing Wen Nuan staring blankly outside, You Dai’er reached out and took her hand. “What are you thinking about?”

“Wondering when this rain will stop.”

You Dai’er had seen the weather forecast; this rain was supposed to last until nightfall.

“It should be soon.”

Wen Nuan’s eyes lit up. “Really? Then we’ll still have time to bask in the sun.”

You Dai’er pulled at the corners of her mouth. “En, there’s still time.”

Wen Nuan rubbed her stomach. “I’m a little hungry.”

You Dai’er bit her wrist and offered it to her. “Drink.”

“No,” Wen Nuan shook her head, looking toward the kitchen. “I want to eat the food you cook.”

“But you eat…” You Dai’er choked, then switched to a smile. “Okay, I’ll go cook. What do you want to eat?”

Wen Nuan thought for a moment. “I want to eat something sweet.”

“Okay, I’ll go buy groceries. You wait for me at home.”

“En.”

You Dai’er placed a pitying kiss on her forehead.

Her kiss was so heavy it made Wen Nuan’s heart skip a beat.

Wen Nuan watched as You Dai’er disappeared into the heavy rain.

The System sighed. 【Blackening value has risen. The female lead’s current blackening value is 9.6!】

Wen Nuan’s lips curled. “Good.”

I looked at my ever-increasing Weibo followers, then looked at my author follows, which aren’t really increasing.

Well, I’ll be damned, they’re all a bunch of old pervs… ??(???)??
