Volume Nine: The Years I Was a Witch
Fear
Wen Nuan shot up, swallowing the fresh blood that had surged into her mouth. The pain in her heart made her break out in a cold sweat, her body trembling uncontrollably.
Seeing this, the System asked worriedly: 【Are you okay?】
Wen Nuan took a deep breath, glanced at the still-sleeping You Dai’er, and got out of bed with light, slow movements, leaving the room to go downstairs.
“I’m fine,” Wen Nuan said, wiping the fresh blood from the corner of her mouth. “My time is running out, isn’t it?”
The System sighed: 【Yeah.】
【But there’s good news, the female lead’s blackening value has already dropped to 0.8!】
Wen Nuan took a bottle of mineral water from the refrigerator and drank a few mouthfuls. “Mhm.”
Seeing that Wen Nuan had recovered, the System exclaimed: 【I was blocked for seven days, you two really went at it.】
Thinking of the madness that knew neither day nor night these past few days, Wen Nuan smiled. “Can’t be helped. The vampire constitution is pretty perverted.”
No matter how much you fucked, you didn’t get tired.
If You Dai’er hadn’t been fucked until she passed out, Wen Nuan wouldn’t have planned on stopping.
The System said helplessly: 【This powerful constitution wasn’t given to you for making love.】
Wen Nuan glanced out the window. The sunlight was perfect. “Shouldn’t let it go to waste.”
The System couldn’t be bothered to trade gags and banter with Wen Nuan: 【There’s still 0.8 left, what do you plan to do?】
【Your time is running out, fight a battle of quick decision.】 the System urged.
It was afraid that trouble would arise, and if the female lead’s blackening value rose again, the gain would not make up for the loss.
“Okay.”
Even without the System saying so, Wen Nuan was already planning to eliminate You Dai’er’s blackening value within the next few days.
The sound of footsteps came from the stairs. Wen Nuan turned around and was immediately pulled into a full embrace.
This person wasn’t behaving, turning the hug into a kiss.
The two of them were intimate for a while, leaning against the windowsill.
You Dai’er tasted the flavor on the tip of her tongue. “You were bleeding?”
There was actually fresh blood of hers in Wen Nuan’s mouth.
Wen Nuan said flatly, “I accidentally bit my tongue.”
“Does it hurt?” You Dai’er asked, her heart aching. “Let me see.”
“It’s fine, it doesn’t hurt. What about you?” Wen Nuan’s gaze lowered, looking at how You Dai’er was wearing only her shirt, her long, slender legs bare.
Her gaze was suggestive. “Does it hurt?”
You Dai’er shook her head and smiled. “Doesn’t hurt. It felt great.”
She nuzzled Wen Nuan’s neck. “…I liked it a lot. Shall we continue?”
Wen Nuan couldn’t help but laugh. “Practice moderation.”
The You Dai’er of this moment was like a beast that has tasted meat1, knowing no fatigue.
You Dai’er, without a shred of shame, smiled. “As long as I like it, it’s fine. A vampire’s physical constitution is very formidable.”
That’s you, but not necessarily her.
Thinking of last night, Wen Nuan sighed inwardly. “Let’s take it slow, okay?”
You Dai’er pouted. “Then tonight…?”
It was currently noon; she could barely manage to wait until evening.
Once a person gets a taste of sweetness, they can’t stop…
Wen Nuan buttoned up her shirt for her. “I’ll consider it.”
“Considering again?” You Dai’er glanced at Wen Nuan’s expression and immediately changed her tune. “Okay, I’ll listen to whatever you say.”
She looked at the marks and teeth imprints on Wen Nuan’s neck, her heart aching. “Does it hurt?”
In the heat of passion, she had been driven so wild by Wen Nuan that she lost control and bit her.
“Doesn’t hurt,” Wen Nuan chuckled lightly. “Felt pretty great.”
You Dai’er licked Wen Nuan’s neck. “I won’t bite next time. If I bite you again, you can hit me.”
“Hit you?” Wen Nuan said mischievously. “Hitting you is letting you off too easy. How about this: for every time you bite me again, we do it one less time. How’s that?”
You Dai’er: “…..”
That’s going too far.
Wen Nuan looked at her aggrieved expression, the wronged look of someone who wanted to retort but didn’t dare.
“Just teasing you.”
You Dai’er’s expression instantly went from cloudy to clear. She hugged Wen Nuan and swayed back and forth. “My Wen Nuan is the best, let’s go for three hundred rounds2 tonight.”
Wen Nuan: “….”
That’s going too far.
The System stroked its chin: 【The female lead really is going a bit too far.】
“However, her proposal is pretty good. Let’s go another three hundred rounds.”
The System was speechless: 【…I don’t want to be blocked for another seven days!!!】
Wen Nuan’s desire for fresh blood was not high, and You Dai’er wouldn’t let her drink from others, because it would make her unhappy.
So every time, she would offer her own blood to Wen Nuan, and then deliberately have Wen Nuan reward her, ultimately achieving her beautiful wish of being intimate with Wen Nuan.
When the sky brightened, for the first time, Wen Nuan saw that You Dai’er was not in bed.
She heard a sound outside the room. Walking to the window to look, she saw You Dai’er talking to a woman.
The markings on that woman’s face were somewhat familiar to Wen Nuan.
An Evil Witch, a witch tainted by worldly desires. Their hearts are black, they will be punished after death, and they willingly fall into depravity in hell in pursuit of powerful strength.
You Dai’er looked at the Evil Witch before her with a face full of annoyance and killing intent. Her morning, which she could have spent being lovey-dovey with Wen Nuan, was now being disturbed by this unlucky witch.
“What? You came here looking to die on purpose?”
Although the power of an Evil Witch was great, to You Dai’er, it was nothing to be feared.
Especially since You Dai’er knew this Evil Witch named Pu Ye3; they had crossed hands before.
Vampires and witches were in a situation where two cannot stand together, but vampires and Evil Witches coexisted peacefully, not disturbing one another, and could even help each other out from time to time.
Pu Ye looked at You Dai’er. “I have been looking for the Progenitor for a long time. I want to ask the Progenitor to help me with something.”
You Dai’er sneered, “Who gave you the courage to ask for my help?”
She wasn’t the least bit familiar with this Evil Witch. Back then, she had almost killed her. Now, hearing her actively seek her help, You Dai’er found it laughable.
“The abilities of Evil Witches are not low. Is there any difficulty you can’t resolve yourselves?”
Pu Ye’s expression was grim, her tone somewhat urgent. “This is a favor only the Progenitor can help with.”
“Fuck off. I’m not helping.”
You Dai’er turned to leave. She still had to go back and be intimate with Wen Nuan; what time did she have to help people?
She suddenly stopped, sensing a change in her surroundings, and her brow furrowed. “Do you really want to die?”
Pu Ye spread her arms, trapping You Dai’er, and pleaded, “I just want to ask the Progenitor for a small favor. As long as you, Progenitor, help me, I can give up everything.”
You Dai’er raised her eyes, her gaze turning cold. “Don’t force me to slaughter you.”
Although the blood of an Evil Witch was a deadly poison to vampires, You Dai’er could still tear her to shreds.
Seeing You Dai’er’s cold-hearted refusal, Pu Ye’s heart sank.
Her expression was one of loss and regret.
But the next second, Pu Ye saw Wen Nuan walking out of the villa, her brow tightening. “Ning Wen Nuan.”
She knew this witch, the one who had once sealed You Dai’er, yet was now mixed up with her again.
She didn’t know the love and hatred between the two of them; she was just surprised why Ning Wen Nuan had become like this.
Wen Nuan recognized Pu Ye, an Evil Witch who was standing alone and walking alone4. Back then, she had even wanted to pull Pu Ye in as a partner to seal You Dai’er together, but was rejected.
She had thought Pu Ye had a connection to the vampires, but this Evil Witch remained neutral, ignoring both sides.
Moreover, Pu Ye had once taught her some forbidden spells, so she counted as a witch who was neither good nor bad.
“Why did you come out?” You Dai’er walked to Wen Nuan’s side and wrapped an arm around her waist, her whole body going limp and collapsing against Wen Nuan.
“Let’s go, we’ll go back and continue sleeping.”
Pu Ye watched their actions in disbelief. Who didn’t know that these two wished they could kill each other, that they shared a sky-blotting and bone-piercing5 sea of blood and deep-seated hatred?
But the harmonious scene before her made Pu Ye doubt the rumors she had been hearing for so long.
As expected, rumors couldn’t be trusted.
“Long time no see,” Wen Nuan said, not in a hurry to leave.
Seeing Pu Ye’s face full of sorrow, she asked, “What’s wrong?”
Pu Ye had no time to care about the relationship between these two. She had come this time to get You Dai’er to help her, but You Dai’er’s refusal was too decisive. If she pressed her, with You Dai’er’s temperament, she would definitely try to kill her.
She looked at the change in how You Dai’er treated Wen Nuan, her eyes shifted, and a plan formed in her mind.
“I want to ask the Progenitor for help,” Pu Ye said, looking at Wen Nuan with a lost and troubled expression. “Unfortunately, the Progenitor won’t help.”
Wen Nuan could tell at a glance that Pu Ye was trying to use her. She must have discovered the subtle relationship between her and You Dai’er, and so planned to find a breakthrough through her.
Wen Nuan didn’t mind Pu Ye scheming against her. If one were to count carefully, she still owed Pu Ye a favor6.
“What favor?”
You Dai’er raised an eyebrow. “You’re going to get involved?”
Wen Nuan said calmly, “I owe her a favor. It must be repaid.”
“A favor?” You Dai’er was confused. “What favor do you owe her?”
Wen Nuan looked at You Dai’er, composed and unhurried. A trace of discomfort also flashed across Pu Ye’s face.
You Dai’er was left with a head full of fog7 by their expressions. “What on earth is this favo—”
Before she could finish, she suddenly saw the light8 about what this so-called favor was.
There were connections between witches, so it wasn’t surprising that Pu Ye and Wen Nuan knew each other. But the favor between them made You Dai’er come to a sudden realization.
You Dai’er’s pupils abruptly darkened. A cruel, bloodthirsty smile hooked her lips as she looked sinisterly at Pu Ye. “So you had a hand in sealing me back then, too?”
After her seal was broken, she hadn’t rushed to find Wen Nuan. Instead, she first sought out the witches who had sealed her that year.
Most of the witches had exhausted their energy and had long since withered and died.
But there were some who survived to this day. You Dai’er found them one by one and brutalized them with extremely cruel methods, avenging the sealing from all those years ago.
Pu Ye’s brow furrowed slightly, but she didn’t explain further.
After all, when it came to sealing You Dai’er back then, she had indeed helped a tiny bit.
Because the forbidden spell used to seal You Dai’er was the one she had told Wen Nuan about.
Wen Nuan’s vision flashed. Seeing the situation, she immediately shouted, “Don’t kill her!”
In the blink of an eye, You Dai’er had already seized Pu Ye by the throat, as if she would snap her head off in the next second.
Her fingers paused. You Dai’er didn’t apply force, turning her head to look at Wen Nuan. “She dared to seal me, so she should have known the consequences.”
“She didn’t contribute any power, she was just a bystander,” Wen Nuan argued.
“So what?” You Dai’er’s blood-red eyes were deep, her five fingers tightening. “The fact that she dared to scheme against me means she was already prepared to be slaughtered by me.”
Pu Ye couldn’t breathe. Her face was flushed red from You Dai’er’s grip, her feet lifted off the ground like a fish about to die from lack of oxygen.
“Dai’er…” Wen Nuan saw that You Dai’er was stubbornly going her own way9, still doing as she pleased.
A pain shot through her heart. She clenched her fists and said in a low voice, “Let her go!”
You Dai’er glared at Wen Nuan, her tone fierce. “She’s not you. She doesn’t have the right to live after scheming against me.”
Wen Nuan was the person on the tip of her heart10. Everyone else was just mole crickets and ants11 that she could crush at will.
There was no comparison at all.
Wen Nuan saw that Pu Ye was already suffocating in You Dai’er’s grip. With just a little more force, Pu Ye would die instantly.
Suddenly, blood and qi surged within her, and fresh blood rushed up her throat.
With a mouthful of bloody foam, she said with a heavier tone, “You Dai’er, I’ll say it one more time, LET HER GO!”
Seeing Wen Nuan being so forceful, You Dai’er was extremely displeased.
This was the first time she had seen Wen Nuan treat her so forcefully for someone else. She could understand with Ding Nisheng, he was her family, but who was Pu Ye to her?
On what grounds was she yelling at her for such an irrelevant person!?
“I WON’T!” You Dai’er’s heart was overturning rivers and seas12. A bloodthirsty, cold light flashed in her crimson eyes.
An irrepressible rage rose from the bottom of her heart, and her five fingers suddenly tightened. “No one can stop me from killing—”
Suddenly——
You Dai’er’s movement froze. She looked at Wen Nuan in disbelief, her voice trembling. “You… for her… you actually struck at me?”
Wen Nuan’s chest heaved violently as she gasped for breath.
She once thought she could change the utterly inhuman, cold-blooded, and heartless You Dai’er, only to discover that she couldn’t shake You Dai’er’s foundation at all.
She was always like this: trying by any means possible to possess what she liked, and by a thousand methods and a hundred plans13 to eliminate what she hated.
Wen Nuan couldn’t help but smile bitterly again and again.
Could it be that the warmth and affection of the past few days were just a fantasy before her death?
You Dai’er had never changed. The one who had changed was actually her.
Was it her who thought You Dai’er was “her,” who thought You Dai’er would change herself because of the deep feelings between them?
You Dai’er flung aside Pu Ye, whose neck she had broken, her face terrifyingly grim as she walked toward Wen Nuan.
She pinched Wen Nuan’s chin, her tone filled with uncontrollable rage. “For her, you dared to strike at me?”
“Tell me, who the fuck is she to you?”
Jealousy and anger seared her heart, liver, spleen, and lungs14. She wanted nothing more than to tear Pu Ye to shreds.
Wen Nuan was her person. No one else was worthy of even thinking about her!
Wen Nuan looked at You Dai’er indifferently. This numb gaze felt like a thorn stabbing into You Dai’er’s heart.
She tried her best to suppress the rage in her heart, her tone softening slightly as she said through gritted teeth, “…Tell me, you do like me, right?”
Thinking back, it seemed Wen Nuan had never once said she liked her.
Her being with her, her being entangled with her—from beginning to end, it had all been her one-sided wishful thinking15.
You Dai’er desperately wanted to hear a single “I like you” from Wen Nuan’s mouth, as if that one phrase could allow her to breathe again.
Wen Nuan couldn’t hold back the churning in her chest, and blood trickled from the corner of her mouth.
There was no blame in her eyes, no resentment, just the placidness of a lake’s surface, without a single ripple.
“You Dai’er, I finally know what it feels like to be hidden from, to be deceived.” Her words were tinged with grief and guilt.
So this was how painful it had been for the “her” from before. Some things, you had to experience firsthand to feel the pain that pierces the heart16 and regret it beyond measure.
You Dai’er’s eyes widened as she stared at the fresh blood on the corner of Wen Nuan’s mouth.
This was the first time she saw Wen Nuan’s blood and didn’t want to drink it, but instead felt fear.
Fear of the words from her mouth, fear of her cold and indifferent gaze.
Fear that she herself had hurt Wen Nuan….
