When the Female Lead Becomes Obsessive – Chapter 207

Volume Nine: The Years I Was a Witch

Bullying

The feeling of becoming a vampire was strange.

Sensory perception was infinitely magnified, and so were desires.

A moment ago in bed, Wen Nuan had almost slept with You Dai’er.

It wasn’t that she didn’t want to be more intimate with You Dai’er, but with You Dai’er’s personality of gaining an inch and advancing a foot1.

If she opened the meat2 for her this time, she would definitely be insatiable and unrestrained from then on.

So she had to endure it.

In truth, even with the sunlight earring, she couldn’t walk or stay freely in the sun. Her witch bloodline and vampire bloodline repelled each other, causing the damage from the sun to multiply. If she stayed in the sunlight for too long, she would constantly feel an even more intense scorching burn and pain.

Wen Nuan looked at the back of her slightly reddened hand. Hearing footsteps behind her, she immediately pulled her hand back, turned, and placed it behind her.

“Are you going out?” You Dai’er asked, seeing Wen Nuan standing at the door.

It was noon, and the intense sunlight outside seemed like it could melt a person.

Wen Nuan shook her head. “I just heard that Xile Town is a bit lively.”

Recently, Xile Town had been holding its “Dingyuan Festival”3 celebration. The event lasted for five days, and every day the town was bustling with excitement, its human voices a boiling cauldron4 as firecrackers sounded in unison.

Ding Nisheng had left her a note. A classmate had asked him to go out and play, and he said he would bring her back some good food when he returned in the evening. He planned to stay at Wen Nuan’s place for the next few days, saying it was to keep her company and fulfill his filial duty.

Wen Nuan was rendered speechless. The male lead’s brain circuit5 was truly astonishing; he was afraid of You Dai’er on one hand, yet eagerly wanted to come back on the other.

You Dai’er said, “Want to go out and have fun?”

She was full of excitement. “I’ll take you.”

She was more familiar with Xile Town.

“I heard that Xile Town at night is when it’s really fun?”

Wen Nuan had been away from this mission world for too long and couldn’t remember the festival activities of many cities.

“You’ve never been?”

You Dai’er had investigated Wen Nuan. Ever since Wen Nuan sealed her, she had been living in a secluded forest villa near Xile Town, deeply entering and simply exiting6.

Like a secluded master.

Wen Nuan said flatly, “Too lazy.”

You Dai’er thought about the location of Wen Nuan’s previous villa—it was extremely remote, separated from the world.

She suddenly understood Wen Nuan’s “too lazy.”

“So do you want to go now?” You Dai’er’s interest was piqued. “I’ll take you, okay?”

There was only one day left before the “Dingyuan Festival” activities ended.

Wen Nuan looked at You Dai’er and said deliberately, “You want to go?”

You Dai’er nodded. “Mhm, mhm.”

Wen Nuan said flatly, “Then you go. I’m not stopping you.”

“What about you?” You Dai’er saw that Wen Nuan showed no signs of moving. “You’re not going?”

Wen Nuan shook her head. “Too lazy.”

Mainly, she wanted to tease You Dai’er. Besides, the sun was so strong outside, she couldn’t go out anyway.

You Dai’er choked, pouting as she said, “I’ll carry you.”

“Am I disabled?”

You Dai’er said awkwardly, “Then I’ll carry you on my back.”

Wen Nuan didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. “What’s the difference? If you want to go, then go. You don’t have to mind me.”

Seeing that Wen Nuan really wasn’t planning to go, You Dai’er glanced into the distance, then slumped onto the sofa, deflated. She said stubbornly, “If you don’t go, I won’t go either.”

Wen Nuan leaned against the doorframe, the corners of her lips turning up. “Why are you always following me around?”

“Because I like you.”

Her confessions were always so passionate and direct, never hidden or concealed.

The corner of Wen Nuan’s mouth hooked up. “Restricting your own personal freedom just to like me… that doesn’t seem like your style.”

“I’ve said it before, I will change. I will learn.”

Wen Nuan was moved, her heart softening.

She walked over to You Dai’er and looked at her quietly.

Being stared at by Wen Nuan made You Dai’er a little uncomfortable. She thought Wen Nuan disliked what she had just said, that Wen Nuan would feel her words were a burden.

“I’m not trying to force you into anything. The days to come are long7, you know. As long as I can be by your side, it’s enough.”

The days to come are long.

Wen Nuan raised her hand, tracing the lines of You Dai’er’s brows and eyes.

Do you know that these ‘days to come’ are only a short ten-odd days away?

The month the system mentioned was only the maximum amount of time.

Even though the system had blocked her pain, Wen Nuan could still feel herself slowly weakening, gradually heading toward extinction.

Wen Nuan watched as You Dai’er grabbed her hand, rubbing her soft, tender little face against her palm. Seeing Wen Nuan looking at her, she gave her a radiant smile, brilliant and sunny.

Wen Nuan’s eyes stung, and under You Dai’er’s astonished gaze, she pulled her into her arms.

You Dai’er froze on the spot. This was the first time Wen Nuan had actively approached her without the lure of her blood.

She was actually so overwhelmed as to receive a favor as if startled8, unable to believe what was happening.

“You… you hugged me?”

Her tone was filled with astonishment and pleasant surprise.

“Mhm,” Wen Nuan affirmed her words. “I am hugging you.”

Having received Wen Nuan’s confirmation, You Dai’er stammered, “Th-then can I hug you?”

Her previous attempts at gaining an inch and advancing a foot had all been resisted by Wen Nuan. Now, seeing Wen Nuan take the initiative, she actually became timid.

Wen Nuan blinked, forcing the tears back from her eyes. “Go ahead. It’s your reward.”

You Dai’er wrapped her arms around Wen Nuan’s slender waist, burying herself in her embrace.

The faint, elegant fragrance from Wen Nuan’s body filled her nose, and the soft touch made her feel utterly content.

“Reward?”

You Dai’er couldn’t remember doing anything that deserved such a big reward from Wen Nuan.

“What did I do?”

She would do it again next time, to make Wen Nuan hug her on her own initiative again.

Wen Nuan ruffled her hair and let out a soft laugh. “You were obedient.”

You Dai’er figured it must have been because she hadn’t abandoned Wen Nuan to go play by herself just now, so Wen Nuan was rewarding her for being well-behaved.

You Dai’er happily wiggled her body.

Seeing this familiar motion, Wen Nuan smiled. “What are you doing?”

“I’m happy,” You Dai’er said, hugging Wen Nuan and rocking her more vigorously. “I like it when you reward me. You have to reward me more in the future.”

Wen Nuan patted the back of her head and stood up. “We’ll see how you perform.”

You Dai’er looked at her empty arms and pouted. “That’s all? Just a little hug?”

Wen Nuan crossed her arms over her chest.

You Dai’er’s lips drooped.

Seeing her aggrieved-looking expression, Wen Nuan couldn’t help but laugh. “How about we go to Xile Town tonight?”

You Dai’er was taken aback. “Huh?”

“Are you going or not?” Wen Nuan raised an eyebrow. “Once you pass this village, you won’t find this shop9.”

You Dai’er immediately replied, “I’m going.”

At night, Xile Town’s lights were as bright as day.

Countless colorful lanterns on the trees and roof tiles along the streets twinkled with multicolored spots of light.

On the tree branches were red and yellow silk ribbons and various knots tied by passersby; people wanted to ask for a good omen.

You Dai’er watched Wen Nuan tie a red silk ribbon around her wrist. “Why aren’t you tying it on the tree?”

She saw that everyone else was tying their ribbons on the tree branches, but Wen Nuan alone had wrapped the red silk ribbon around her wrist.

Wen Nuan looked at the branches full of red and yellow silk ribbons, then shook the ribbon on her wrist. “You believe in this?”

A vampire being superstitious?!

You Dai’er shook her head. “I don’t.”

“I thought you would be like them.”

She pointed at the crowd of people tying ribbons.

“I will tie a silk ribbon,” Wen Nuan said, looking at You Dai’er, a growing interest in her eyes, “but I won’t tie it on a tree.”

“Then where will you tie it?”

Wen Nuan glanced at the growing number of tourists and sighed. “There are more and more people.”

You Dai’er looked at the streams of people coming and going. People were walking practically shoulder to shoulder.

If this were the past, You Dai’er would have thought this scene was wonderful.

So many people, enough for her to have a big meal.

But now—

“Come closer to me,” You Dai’er said, pulling Wen Nuan in. “It’s easy to get separated by the crowd.”

Now, the number of people just made her a bit irritable. As they walked past, one after another, they kept jostling Wen Nuan.

Wen Nuan took hold of You Dai’er’s wrist and tied one end of the red silk ribbon to it.

“This way, we won’t be separated.”

You Dai’er looked at the red silk ribbon between them. In that instant, she actually felt like this was the marriage-affinity red string10 that Yue Lao11 from ancient mythology had tied for them.

“Wen Nuan?”

“Hm?” Wen Nuan looked at her.

“I suddenly feel that some superstitions are worth believing in.”

Wen Nuan didn’t understand why You Dai’er would say this. “What’s wrong?”

You Dai’er wound the ribbon, bit by bit, pulling the two of them closer. “Wen Nuan, I once heard a myth, and this ‘Dingyuan Festival’ in Xile Town has some connection to it.”

“What is it?”

You Dai’er got her wish and held Wen Nuan’s hand, their ten fingers interlocked. She smiled sweetly. “In the myth, there is a Yue Lao. He specializes in using a red string to tie two fated people tightly together. That way, the two can never be separated, not even by life or death.”

A vampire’s eternal life was a reward from the Creator.

But at this moment, she felt that her eternal life was not a reward, but an exchange.

Exchanged for Wen Nuan, this ray of morning sun.

Wen Nuan hadn’t expected You Dai’er to talk to her about this. She didn’t really believe in these kinds of legends, but she never thought that a vampire progenitor would actually care about such myths.

“Why are you suddenly telling me this?”

You Dai’er led Wen Nuan through the crowd. In the distant sky, fireworks exploded, so beautiful one couldn’t take it all in.

Beside her was Wen Nuan. Her clear eyes were fixed on her, reflecting her image, as if Wen Nuan’s entire world was filled with her.

“I was just thinking, if it’s you,” You Dai’er raised her hand, caressing Wen Nuan’s cheek, “then no matter how absurd the myth, I would believe it to be true.”

The tip of Wen Nuan’s heart trembled. She squeezed her hand and let out a soft laugh. “You Dai’er, you’ve really changed a lot.”

“I changed for you. Are you happy?”

Wen Nuan paused. “Happy.”

“Then is there a reward?” You Dai’er’s eyes lit up.

“What reward do you want?”

You Dai’er leaned in, a slyly wicked12 smile on her face. “I want to kiss you.”

Wen Nuan couldn’t help but smile. “Kiss me?”

“Mhm, mhm, just one kiss.”

Wen Nuan watched You Dai’er slowly approach her. A glint of cunning flashed in her eyes, and she abruptly turned her head, teasing, “I’ll consider it.”

You Dai’er missed her chance and followed behind Wen Nuan. “Does this even need consideration?”

Just one kiss, what is there to consider?

Wen Nuan pretended not to hear You Dai’er’s grievance and complaint, walking ahead. “What? Are you planning to force me?”

You Dai’er’s body shook, and she said urgently, “I’m not!”

She denied it too quickly, afraid that Wen Nuan would misunderstand her.

Wen Nuan couldn’t help but laugh. The smile was too faint; You Dai’er was looking down, stewing in her own frustration, and didn’t see her smile or the doting look in her eyes.

“Then do you still want to kiss me?”

“Yes.”

“Then will you give me time to consider?”

“Yes.”

You Dai’er quickly asked, “How long are you planning to consider?”

“A lifetime, maybe.”

“Huh?”

Vampires represented eternal life. Wasn’t Wen Nuan’s statement just a roundabout way of telling her, “Kissing me is impossible”?!

You Dai’er was so angry the bottoms of her eyes turned red. She accused her resentfully, “You’re cheating!”

Wen Nuan turned around, saying strangely, “Are you so mad at me you’re about to cry?”

Her sore spot poked13, You Dai’er turned her head away, refusing to look at Wen Nuan. “Vampires don’t cry.”

No matter how wronged or frustrated she was, she would not cry.

Vampires were cold-blooded, heartless things to begin with.

“Alright, I thought you were crying and was planning to shorten the consideration time,” Wen Nuan said, looking at her with an innocent face.

“…”

You Dai’er blinked hard. Forget crying, she didn’t even feel that stinging sensation in her eyes.

Isn’t this just blatant bullying?
