Volume Nine: The Years I Was a Witch
Puppy
Is that so?
Hiding in the corner, You Dai’er trembled.
It was just that Ding Nisheng’s words had shocked her. Had she never considered that what she felt for Wen Nuan could be “like”?
You Dai’er had never thought of leaving Wen Nuan. Even if Wen Nuan scolded her, was fierce with her, or even beat or killed her, she didn’t want to leave Wen Nuan.
After all, how could someone who has seen the light endure the coming of darkness again?
So You Dai’er just roared for a while in the deep forest, releasing the gloom in her heart, and then obediently ran back.
Thinking that Wen Nuan didn’t want to see her, she squatted under the window, but she accidentally overheard their conversation.
At first, Ding Nisheng’s words filled You Dai’er with utter disgust, but what he said later made the tip of her heart tremble in shock.
Suddenly, the sound of a window opening came from overhead.
You Dai’er thought Wen Nuan had discovered her and was just about to hide when a basin of cold water was poured right over her head.
“…”
You Dai’er was about to let loose a stream of curses when she looked up and saw Wen Nuan holding a basin, watching her from the window.
She couldn’t understand the complex emotions in Wen Nuan’s eyes, nor did she dare to meet Wen Nuan’s gaze.
Mainly, a trace of cowardice and embarrassment had suddenly sprouted in her heart.
You Dai’er wiped her face. “Still… still not asleep this late?”
“There was someone howling in the forest, making so much noise I couldn’t sleep,” Wen Nuan said flatly.
“…” You Dai’er scratched her head in embarrassment.
Her eyes darted, and she put on a roguish look. “You dumped a basin of water on me. What are you going to do about it?”
Wen Nuan set the basin aside, rested her hands on the windowsill, and looked lazily at You Dai’er. “What do you want?”
You Dai’er looked up at Wen Nuan. The faint fluorescent light of the bedroom was behind her, making it seem as if the glow was radiating from her body.
Seeing Wen Nuan like this, You Dai’er was suddenly reminded of the first time she had met her.
The little girl had been wearing a pure white lace princess dress. She stood amidst the flames, her delicate features rendered otherworldly by the fiery glow, as if an angel had descended.
The her of back then and the her of now seemed to overlap perfectly. You Dai’er suddenly understood why she hadn’t killed Wen Nuan at the time.
It wasn’t because Wen Nuan’s blood was special and tasted sweet, but because from the very first time she saw Wen Nuan, she felt that a light had fallen into her world.
She couldn’t bear for this ray of light to be too fleeting, so she had forcibly kept this morning sun by her side.
You Dai’er gave a brief smile.
Wen Nuan raised an eyebrow. “What are you smiling at?”
Did getting doused with water short-circuit her brain?
“I’m smiling at myself.”
“What?”
Smiling at myself for falling in love at first sight with a child.
You Dai’er’s eyes narrowed. She shook out her water-soaked clothes, a look of wild arrogance on her face. “You soaked me. I need to take a bath.”
Wen Nuan saw that You Dai’er was suddenly acting all mysterious, as if she were hiding some monumental secret.
“If you want to take a bath, then take one.”
She couldn’t stop You Dai’er.
You Dai’er saw Wen Nuan’s casual attitude, as if she didn’t care about any of her actions.
Feeling defiant, she said in a stiff tone, “This is your house. I want to take a bath. Are you willing to let me in?”
Wen Nuan didn’t know what You Dai’er was planning. “You’re allowed to come into this villa,” she said helplessly.
“Not that,” You Dai’er explained. “I want to take a bath in your house. Do you agree or not?”
“…”
Wen Nuan finally understood what You Dai’er meant.
She felt a sense of wonder. “Since when does a Third-generation Vampire Progenitor need to ask for permission to do things?”
You Dai’er had always done as she pleased, carefree and heedless. She never cared what others said or thought; as long as she was happy and satisfied, that was all that mattered.
Now, seeing You Dai’er actually seeking her permission just to take a bath in the villa, Wen Nuan kind of wanted to laugh.
The system lamented: 【Look how wronged the female lead] is. It’s not even easy for her to take a bath; she has to walk on eggshells around someone else. Tsk, tsk, public morals are degenerating day by day, ah.】
Wen Nuan: “…”
She said helplessly, “What does this have to do with you?”
The system picked its nose: 【I’m standing up for the female lead.】
“Heh, standing up for her? Have you forgotten how she tortured me before?” Wen Nuan snorted.
The system choked: 【Fine, whatever. I was just telling you that the female lead’s blackening value has dropped. Her current blackening value is 3.8!】
Wen Nuan saw that You Dai’er was hesitating, looking very awkward. She raised a hand. “I poured water on you, so it’s only right to let you take a bath. Come in.”
On account of you lowering my blackening value, I’ll let you push your luck this once.
You Dai’er’s eyes lit up, and she grinned, baring her teeth. “Okay.”
Wen Nuan closed the window. When she turned around, she saw that You Dai’er was already in her bedroom’s bathroom.
She tilted her chin. “Go ahead.”
You Dai’er didn’t even close the door, leaving it wide open.
She stripped off her clothes, standing stark naked in front of Wen Nuan, and made a point of telling her, “I’m going in to wash up.”
Wen Nuan’s gaze swept over You Dai’er’s naked body. “Do as you please,” she said impassively.
You Dai’er saw Wen Nuan turn and get into bed. She shrugged and started her bath.
Wen Nuan leaned against the headboard, a book in her hands, listening to the sound of running water from the bathroom.
【Aren’t you going to go in there and enjoy a lovebird’s bath with the female lead?】 the system instigated.
“I’d love to,” Wen Nuan sighed, “but there’s no rush. We can wait for later.”
【We still have to wait? You don’t have much time left, you’d better pay attention.】 the system reminded her.
Wen Nuan nodded. “Okay.”
Her ears twitched. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw You Dai’er walk out, completely naked, and stand beside her bed, staring at her fixedly.
The atmosphere was a bit delicate.
Wen Nuan closed her book. “Something wrong?”
You Dai’er held out her hands. “The clothes I was wearing are wet. Can you get me something to wear?”
Wen Nuan gave a cold laugh. “You went out for a bit. How did you suddenly learn some manners?”
You Dai’er pressed her lips together. “…You don’t like me this way?”
“I’m just not used to it. This isn’t your style.”
“I just want to learn how to be human.”
Wen Nuan blinked. “Why?”
You Dai’er didn’t explain, only looked at Wen Nuan for a few moments longer.
The delicate atmosphere between the two grew more and more tender and intimate.
Seeing that You Dai’er wasn’t speaking, Wen Nuan pointed to the wardrobe behind her. “Get something yourself.”
Having received Wen Nuan’s permission, You Dai’er opened the wardrobe, took out a white short-sleeved shirt and a pair of black casual pants, and got dressed. Afterward, she continued to stand by Wen Nuan’s bed.
Wen Nuan set her book aside and pressed the bridge of her nose. “You Dai’er, what on earth are you trying to do?”
“Why did you stop calling me Dai’er?”
You Dai’er thought of when they were leaning on each other in the bathroom and Wen Nuan had blurted out “Dai’er.” The memory made the tip of her heart itch.
Wen Nuan said flatly, “I don’t know you that well. Besides, you used to only let me call you Lord Progenitor.”
You Dai’er rubbed her nose. “You can call me Dai’er.”
“I don’t want to call you Dai’er,” Wen Nuan said deliberately. “Lord Progenitor.”
You Dai’er: “…”
Her gaze hardened. “If you don’t want to, then don’t. But don’t call me Lord Progenitor either.”
For the first time, she felt that the title was deeply shameful.
Wen Nuan couldn’t be bothered to argue with her about names. “You’ve bathed, you’ve changed your clothes. What are you still standing here for?”
“I want to sleep here. Can I?”
“Where?”
You Dai’er, with a brazen face1, pointed at the bed Wen Nuan was sitting on. “I want to sleep here.”
Wen Nuan laughed in exasperation at You Dai’er’s words and actions.
“You Dai’er, you’re asking my opinion on everything now. What new mischief are you plotting?”
You Dai’er shook her head. “I’m not plotting anything.”
“Then what’s the reason for all these baffling things you’re doing?”
You Dai’er huffed and puffed2, fidgeted a bit, and stammered, “I just want to sleep here for a night?”
“Is that all?”
“…There’s one more thing.” You Dai’er held up one finger.
Wen Nuan gestured with her eyes. “Speak?”
You Dai’er took a deep breath. “I want to stay by your side.”
Wen Nuan paused. “…Do as you please. I can’t control your freedom.”
You Dai’er said urgently, “You… you can control me.”
“I control you?” Wen Nuan gave a sarcastic laugh. “How could a little human like me possibly control a Third-generation Vampire Progenitor?”
“I permit you to control me.”
You Dai’er said it to Wen Nuan as if she were bestowing a great reward.
Wen Nuan was taken aback, her probing gaze falling on You Dai’er.
She stood up abruptly, looking down at You Dai’er from a superior height.
You Dai’er was startled by her movement and took a step back. “Wh-what are you doing?”
Wen Nuan isn’t going to kill me again, is she?!
I didn’t say anything wrong, did I?
I don’t think I did anything wrong, either?
Why is Wen Nuan suddenly so agitated?!
Wen Nuan leaned down to look at her and said strangely, “You Dai’er, you’re acting very strange. Could it be that the forty years I sealed you away also sealed your brain until it broke?”
“…” You Dai’er denied it. “My brain isn’t broken.”
She said, deflated, “I just want to stay by your side.”
Wen Nuan moved closer to her, suspicious. “After you woke up, I thought you’d want to get revenge on me, to kill me to vent the anger in your heart. But after you saw me, you didn’t kill me, and you even stick to my side every day. You Dai’er, what are your true intentions?”
You Dai’er watched her get closer and closer, their proximity causing their breaths to mingle.
She stared at Wen Nuan’s parting red lips as if bewitched.
A warmth covered Wen Nuan’s lips, the soft touch making her freeze.
You Dai’er saw that Wen Nuan didn’t pull away, thought Wen Nuan was tacitly approving of her actions.
She raised her arms to wrap around Wen Nuan, pressing the stunned girl onto the bed. Her tongue easily slipped past Wen Nuan’s lips, touching and licking at her mouth.
In that instant, You Dai’er’s mind was about to explode with pleasure.
Wen Nuan felt a coldness inside her clothes as her breast was seized and kneaded in a palm.
She came back to her senses and bit down hard on the tongue that was wreaking havoc3 in her mouth.
You Dai’er recoiled in pain, blood welling on the tip of her tongue. “What are you doing?”
Wen Nuan swallowed the blood from her own tongue, a chill rising in her eyes. “You Dai’er, you’re insane!”
You Dai’er retorted, “I’m not insane.”
“You’re not insane?” Wen Nuan touched her bitten lip. “Then what are you doing now?”
“I’m kissing you.”
“Why are you kissing me?” Wen Nuan’s brow furrowed. “What gives you the right…”
You Dai’er cut her off. “I like you.”
Wen Nuan froze, incredulous. “What did you say?”
It was the first time You Dai’er had ever seen Wen Nuan so surprised. The confusion and shock in her eyes gave You Dai’er a sliver of hope and joy.
Does Wen Nuan’s strong reaction mean she has feelings for me too?
Actually, thinking about it now, the fact that Wen Nuan didn’t kill me back then but sealed me instead… doesn’t that mean she couldn’t bear for me to die?
You Dai’er thought of this, and the gloom that had accumulated in her heart these past few days was swept away; suddenly, everything became clear4.
She pecked Wen Nuan on the mouth and said joyfully, “Do you like me too?”
Wen Nuan’s eyes narrowed. “You Dai’er, your brain really is broken.”
Seeing that Wen Nuan didn’t dodge, You Dai’er kissed her again. “Curse me all you want. Anyway, I like you. The fact that you didn’t kill me and only sealed me proves you like me too.”
Wen Nuan: “…”
That’s not it. I didn’t kill you because of the restrictions of the world’s laws. After all, if the female lead dies, the world will completely collapse.
You Dai’er was getting addicted to kissing. She not only started kissing her lips but also gradually moved downward.
A dense flurry of kisses landed on Wen Nuan’s slender, pale neck. Her tone grew ambiguous, her actions more and more brazen. “Wen Nuan, I really like you, you let me kiss you…”
Wen Nuan did not react. “Mm, do whatever you want,” she said calmly. “Just get out as soon as you’re done.”
The person on top of her seemed to freeze.
You Dai’er’s expression was blank, as if someone had viciously stabbed her in the heart, the pain making it hard to breathe.
“Wh-what do you mean?” Her voice was trembling.
Wen Nuan looked at You Dai’er coldly. “If your ‘like’ is just about wanting to kiss me and touch me, I’ll grant your wish. You can do whatever you want to me. Just leave when you’re finished.”
You Dai’er’s face alternated between pale and flushed5. “You think I like you just to kiss you and touch you?”
“What else?”
You Dai’er was infuriated by her indifferent attitude. “I like you!” she said angrily. “I want to be with you forever! Even if… even if I can’t kiss you or touch you, as long as I can be with you forever, that’s enough.”
Wen Nuan’s pupils trembled. “…You like me that much?”
You Dai’er nodded emphatically. “Mhm.”
“Then get up first.”
You Dai’er didn’t understand why, but she got up apprehensively and stood to the side, looking small and helpless.
Wen Nuan sat up and took a breath, the cut on her lip stinging sharply. “If you don’t know how to kiss, then don’t.”
You Dai’er looked at the injury on her mouth and said guiltily, “I’ll practice more.”
“…” Wen Nuan rolled her eyes at her. “You think I’ll give you another chance to kiss me?”
“…”
You Dai’er knew she wouldn’t.
She hung her head like a rain-soaked puppy.
Wen Nuan’s heart softened. She sighed. “I’m tired.”
You Dai’er immediately responded, “You sleep, you sleep.”
Wen Nuan couldn’t be bothered with her and rolled over to one side. “I’m going to sleep. You can go do whatever you want.”
She sensed You Dai’er about to move closer and warned with her eyes closed, “You dare touch me, just you try.”
You Dai’er froze. “…Okay.”
She saw that Wen Nuan was asleep, so she quietly crept to the side of the bed and sat on the floor, watching Wen Nuan without blinking.
Wen Nuan looks best when she’s not opening her mouth, she thought.
Saves me from getting cursed at every time she speaks.
