When the Female Lead Becomes Obsessive – Chapter 199

Volume Nine: The Years I Was a Witch

Heartache

You Dai’er sprinted back to the villa, only to find the burnt-out house and the ground littered with the bodies of vampires.

All the vampires had died from their skulls exploding, a method unique to Wen Nuan when she killed vampires.

Vampires considered themselves an elegant and noble species, yet they also loved cruel, bloodthirsty combat.

Towards their own kind, they could unite as one, or they could turn on each other in an instant.

Wen Nuan was the witch who had grown up by her side, and witches were the mortal enemies of vampires. Many vampires wanted to kill Wen Nuan.

You Dai’er couldn’t be bothered with the vampires’ petty schemes. They wanted to kill Wen Nuan, and You Dai’er had indulged their behavior because she had discovered that her little witch was formidable.

At a young age, her curse magic was already exquisite; when faced with slaughter by low-level vampires, she would always fight back and crush them.

But if she encountered a high-level vampire, Wen Nuan would deliberately run to her side and use her as a shield. With You Dai’er present, no vampire dared to kill her people in front of her.

The little girl was full of cunning ideas.

So——

You Dai’er looked at the villa, now a burnt ruin.

She kept telling herself that Wen Nuan was definitely okay!

She whirled around, grabbing Carter by the throat, and snarled, “You did this on purpose?”

Lure the tiger from the mountain, then take the opportunity to make a move on Wen Nuan. Judging by the number of dead vampires at the scene, there must have been dozens surrounding and trying to kill her.

You Dai’er’s hand pierced through Carter’s abdomen, twisting his ribs as she said viciously, “Where did you take her?”

“Ah——” Carter sucked in a breath from the pain, his voice strained. “Progenitor, what… are you saying? I don’t understand…”

“Are you playing the careless eye with me?1” You Dai’er snapped Carter’s ribs. “Who the hell gave you the guts to touch my people?”

“Speak! Where did you take Wen Nuan?”

The mere thought of Wen Nuan’s currently frail body and the possibility of her being brutalized by those bastards made You Dai’er’s heart ache unbearably.

Carter remained stubborn, arguing, “I really… don’t know…”

You Dai’er’s blood-red eyes met Carter’s. “Tell me everything you know.”

Soul-capturing.2

Low-level vampires could not resist the hypnosis of a high-level vampire.

Carter’s eyes glazed over. “I don’t know,” he murmured.

You Dai’er frowned. “Someone already used Soul-capturing on you?”

And the vampire who did it was of a rank no lower than her own.

Carter could not reveal the truth, making him useless to You Dai’er. With a single motion, she crushed his heart, twisted off his head, and threw his body into the still-burning ruins.

If Wen Nuan were still at the height of her power, the vampires chasing her now wouldn’t have lasted three moves.

But her body was much weaker than before, unable to support the casting of powerful curse magic. Furthermore, You Dai’er’s blood was wreaking havoc inside her, affecting her to the point where she was now being hunted like a cornered animal.

【Nine o’clock and three o’clock. Four vampires at each position planning to encircle you. Be careful.】

The System helped Wen Nuan monitor her surroundings. If she were killed by them, this mission world would be a failure.

Wen Nuan flung two curses in those directions and heard several blood-curdling screams.

Wiping the blood from the corner of her mouth, she panted heavily. “I won’t die. Don’t you worry.”

The System believed Wen Nuan and cheered her on: 【Okay! I’ll guide you. Let’s wear these sons of bitches down till they drop.】

Wear them down.

At this rate, she was the one who was going to be worn down first.

Wen Nuan said she wouldn’t die for another reason, not because she had the stamina to outlast them.

【Straight ahead, one hundred meters. There’s a person?】 the System said, surprised. 【Huh? Why is there only one person blocking you?】

Before the System could finish expressing its shock, Wen Nuan saw the person waiting to intercept her.

“Long time no see, Ning Wen Nuan.”

Wen Nuan stopped, her voice cold. “You Xi.”

The man had the same curly blond hair as You Dai’er, but his features were sharper, his blood-red eyes deeper. When he looked at someone, it was with a strange, demonic charm and allure.

There was no denying the looks of these two siblings; both were top-tier beautiful, with an aggressive kind of attractiveness.

But the relationship between these two siblings was not one of affection as deep as that between hands and feet; on the contrary, they wished the other would die without a place to bury their body.

A corner of You Xi’s mouth lifted, and in an instant, he vanished from before Wen Nuan’s eyes.

Wen Nuan’s brow furrowed tightly. She was forced to tilt her head back, her vulnerable neck exposed completely to You Xi.

You Xi could feel the hot blood beneath Wen Nuan’s skin. He had tasted her blood once by chance, and it was exquisite beyond words.

No wonder his sister loved having Wen Nuan around so much. Her blood could drive any vampire into a frenzy.

You Xi licked Wen Nuan’s neck, a look of satisfaction on his face. “So fragrant.”

Strange as it was, a witch’s blood shouldn’t be a delicacy to a vampire but rather a gut-rotting poison. Ning Wen Nuan’s blood, however, was so sweet it was maddeningly addictive.

“Disgusting.”

Wen Nuan wanted to pull away, but she couldn’t resist You Xi’s power.

She could handle other vampires easily enough, but You Xi was also a third-generation Progenitor. In her current state, she was no match for him at all.

You Xi wasn’t angered. He pinched her chin. “I’m disgusting? You were by You Dai’er’s side for so many years. Wasn’t it disgusting when she bit you?”

Wen Nuan actually gave it some serious thought. You Dai’er biting her was much more tolerable than You Xi licking her.

“Have you forgotten that you worked with me back then to seal You Dai’er away?”

That was the first time You Xi had truly tasted Wen Nuan’s blood.

To secure his cooperation, she had slit her wrist and let him drink, all so he would fight You Dai’er first and weaken her. Then, Wen Nuan gathered the witches, and together they sealed You Dai’er away.

Wen Nuan raised her eyes. “I don’t forget the things I’ve done.”

“But if we’re talking about which of you and You Dai’er disgusts me?” She let out a cold sneer. “That would be you, without a doubt.”

You Xi frowned. “You Dai’er killed your parents, made you the lowest-ranking blood servant, and couldn’t have cared less if you lived or died. And you still think she’s better?”

“She killed my parents, so I betrayed her and sealed her. We don’t owe each other anything.”

You Xi scoffed. “Fine. Even if you don’t care that she killed your parents, what about all the suffering and misery you went through? Don’t you want revenge?”

“Now that some little brat has broken You Dai’er’s seal, she’s definitely going to kill everyone who betrayed her. You’ll be the first in line. Don’t you want to protect yourself?”

“You know better than I do how You Dai’er deals with her enemies,” You Xi said, patting her cheek.

He smiled mockingly. “The only reason she hasn’t killed you yet is probably because she finds it amusing to mess with you, to play with you for a bit. Did you really think she’d let you go?”

“When my sister gets ruthless, she won’t even spare her own parents or me, her own brother. What makes you think she’d spare you, the person who betrayed and sealed her?”

Wen Nuan was tired of hearing it. She probably knew better than You Xi that You Dai’er wouldn’t let her go.

“So?” she sighed. “What are you trying to say after all this?”

“Let’s cooperate,” You Xi told her. “We’ll continue our partnership and seal You Dai’er away again. How about it?”

Wen Nuan didn’t answer him. Instead, she asked something else. “The recent spate of vampires harming humans—that was your doing, wasn’t it?”

You Xi hadn’t expected her to ask that.

His gaze turned wary as he nodded. “What do you know?”

“After You Dai’er awakened, vampires started violating 《The Covenant》 and attacking humans, shattering the current stability. And your reason for doing so was to make You Dai’er the target of all arrows. You’re stirring up trouble from within, to confuse sight and hearing, and thereby change the current balance of power so that vampires are no longer oppressed. Am I right?”

Wen Nuan hit every point. You Xi couldn’t deny it, nor did he want to.

“You’re very smart.”

“There’s nothing in it for me.”

You Xi paused for a second. “What?”

Wen Nuan looked at him with cold eyes. “If vampires were to take control of this world again, the cruel, bloody hell of the past would return to the mortal realm. That would be a catastrophe for all of humanity, and I would become a piece you discard.”

“I can turn you into a vampire,” You Xi said, moving closer, his voice tempting. “Then this world will be ours.”

“I hate vampires,” Wen Nuan said, giving him a look of contempt. “And I have no interest in this world.”

“Then what are you interested in? We can cooperate. I’ll do my best to give you whatever you want. How about it?”

Wen Nuan lowered her gaze and smiled. “There is one thing, actually.”

Hope flickered in You Xi’s eyes. “What?”

“And that is…” Wen Nuan shoved You Xi away, her hands rapidly forming hand seals3. “To kill you.”

Suddenly, a fierce wind rose, shaking the trees until their leaves rained down.

The sky grew even darker, as if a bottle of ink had been spilled across it.

You Xi could feel the change in his surroundings. The air seemed to solidify, creating a feeling of immense pressure.

The lower-level vampires in the area couldn’t withstand the pressure and were crushed into pulp.

You Xi looked at Wen Nuan. She was a spent arrow from a strong bow.

She was just putting on a brave front.

“Wen Nuan, must you be my enemy?” You Xi’s tone was harsh, tinged with a hint of regret. “I actually quite like you.”

“Well, I don’t like you.”

Suddenly, You Xi’s expression changed. He flashed behind Wen Nuan, breaking through her curse magic and clamping her in his arms just as a furious You Dai’er appeared.

“Well, if it isn’t my dear sister?” You Xi bared his teeth in a grin. “It’s been decades. Did you miss your big brother?”

When You Dai’er saw You Xi’s hand tighten around Wen Nuan’s neck, her heart suddenly stopped.

“Let her go, and I’ll let you live.”

You Xi found this novel, and he scoffed. “Oh? Dear sister, you’re actually begging me for the sake of the person who betrayed you?”

“You Xi, do not try to provoke me.”

“And what if I do?” A vicious glint flashed in You Xi’s eyes as he raised a hand and snapped Wen Nuan’s arm. “Does this make you angry?”

Wen Nuan choked back a cry of pain, cursing inwardly. Fuck!

You Dai’er’s eyes instantly turned blood-red. “Do you have a fucking death wish?” she said through gritted teeth.

“Would you dare kill me?” You Xi snapped Wen Nuan’s other arm. “I never thought you’d care about her so much.”

“You Xi!”

You Dai’er watched Wen Nuan’s face grow even paler, looking as if she might ascend to the heavens in the next second.

You Xi felt that You Dai’er’s attitude toward Wen Nuan was off. They were clearly enemies, yet You Dai’er’s worried expression made him suspicious.

He tested the waters. “You Dai’er, you care about her so much… you couldn’t possibly like her, could you?”

You Dai’er froze, a brief flicker of confusion and panic appearing in her blood-red pupils.

She looked at Wen Nuan, held hostage by You Xi like a fragile porcelain doll.

A gripping pain seized her heart, a pain so intense her body began to tremble.

This was the curse Wen Nuan had placed on her.

It was called Heartache.
