When the Female Lead Becomes Obsessive – Chapter 197

Volume Nine: The Years I Was a Witch

A Child’s Temper

Vampire hierarchy is both clearly defined and complex. They judge rank based on strength, the sharpness of their fangs, and the depth of their eye color.

The third-generation vampire progenitor before them was, naturally, unfathomably powerful—enough to make one’s blood run cold.

In the current world, high-level vampires were already rare. Furthermore, with the constraints imposed by werewolves, witches, and humans, it was impossible for vampires to evolve by drinking blood.

The awakening of a third-generation vampire progenitor was an extremely dangerous situation, one that could even incite panic among all of humanity.

Ai Wen looked at You Dai’er’s blood-red pupils, a color so deep it seemed to have been steeped in gore. He could already feel the ultimate danger.

“Um…” Ai Wen frowned deeply as he looked at Wen Nuan, suddenly feeling like he was riding a tiger and couldn’t get off1. “I…”

If he had known You Dai’er was here with Wen Nuan, he would have brought more people, no matter what.

He had only brought ten people with him this time. All of them together probably wouldn’t even be enough to fill the gaps between You Dai’er’s teeth2.

Sensing the danger, the others immediately raised their silver guns and aimed them at You Dai’er. One of them, a muscular man, suddenly stripped off his shirt. His muscles, like fists, bulged one after another, appearing especially slick and vibrant under the sunlight.

The next second, the man’s stout body began to distort, transforming into a gray-furred wolf as tall as a man.

Its massive, copper-bell-like eyes stared intently at You Dai’er. Its sharp claws scraped several gouges into the ground as it gathered its strength to pounce.

A cruel smile played on You Dai’er’s lips. “A werewolf? Excellent. It’s been a while since I’ve had wolf meat. The texture is so-so, but it’s edible.”

The werewolf snorted a heavy breath, and streams of saliva dripped from its massive maw, reeking of blood.

Ai Wen looked at You Dai’er. “Humans and vampires have coexisted peacefully for forty years. The moment you awaken, you kill six humans to satisfy your appetite. You have already violated the Covenant3 and should be punished accordingly.”

“Punished?” You Dai’er’s face was full of contempt. “Do you think just anyone can be as insolent to me as that little witch?”

Wen Nuan raised an eyebrow and stood to the side, watching the show.

She swept her gaze around the group. “Who gave you the courage to punish me?”

Ai Wen raised his gun, his gaze hardening. “You Dai’er has violated the Covenant and refuses to accept punishment. The Hunting Bureau will take forceful measures. Go!”

At his command, the gray wolf threw its head back and howled, its huge body rushing toward You Dai’er like Mount Tai weighing down on her4.

You Dai’er remained impassive, vanishing from sight in an instant. The gray wolf’s pupils shrank as a powerful force slammed into its side, sending it crashing violently through several thick trees.

A forest of guns and a rain of bullets5 was no match for You Dai’er’s light-like speed. The men couldn’t see You Dai’er’s figure and could only fire blindly into their surroundings.

Suddenly, all the gunshots stopped. Everyone stared warily at You Dai’er, who now had Ai Wen in a chokehold.

Her fangs were bared.

You Dai’er tightened her grip on Ai Wen’s throat, her bloodthirsty gaze sweeping over every person’s heart.

“Let our captain go!”

“Awooo——” the gray wolf roared in fury.

You Dai’er sensed the blood flowing in Ai Wen’s neck, and her eyes darkened.

Ai Wen held his breath.

“A bunch of ants dare to provoke me?” You Dai’er scratched Ai Wen’s neck, and fresh blood soaked his collar. “Perfect. I wasn’t full anyway. It’s food that’s come knocking, and it’s a waste not to eat.”

Beads of sweat blurred Ai Wen’s eyes, and his body tensed.

Bang——

A silver bullet hit You Dai’er’s shoulder, but she didn’t even flinch. She looked coldly at the person who had just fired.

The man stared at You Dai’er in terror. Their handguns were specially made, and the silver bullets were enchanted with witch spells. It was impossible for them to leave a vampire completely unscathed.

A third-generation vampire progenitor was truly this terrifying.

“Stay put.”

You Dai’er released Ai Wen and walked toward the man who had shot her.

Ai Wen was horrified to find he couldn’t move at all. His mind was conscious, but his body refused to obey his commands, frozen in place.

He had been hypnotized by You Dai’er.

The man watched in panic as You Dai’er slowly approached him. Though the sun was blazing overhead, the intense sunlight had no effect on her whatsoever. Her golden hair was refracted by the light, making it even more dazzling.

She wore a smile, but it made those who watched her feel like they had spikes on their backs6 and a fishbone stuck in their throats7.

The man kept backing away, shouting in fear, “Don’t come any closer! Back off! Back off!”

You Dai’er paid him no mind, her smile growing even wilder. She narrowed her blood-red eyes, scaring the man so much that his hand trembled and he fired another shot, this one hitting her directly in the chest.

The man’s eyes widened, and he froze on the spot.

You Dai’er seized him by the throat, lifting him until his toes left the ground. A crisp crack echoed from his neck, like the sound of a bone about to snap.

To save the man, the others hurriedly opened fire, but the bullets suddenly stopped in mid-air, hovering beside You Dai’er as if they had hit an impenetrable wall.

Everyone looked at Wen Nuan in disbelief, wondering why she had intervened and stunned that her power was so formidable.

You Dai’er looked at Wen Nuan. She didn’t think for a moment that Wen Nuan was trying to help her.

“You were sealed for forty years, so you might not know that humans and vampires signed the Covenant to restrain both sides. But you did drink the blood of six people, so you should be punished,” Wen Nuan said. “Their punishment is a piece of cake for you, isn’t it?”

You Dai’er raised an eyebrow. “But I don’t want to.”

What right did they have to punish her?

“If you make a mistake, you have to be punished.”

“I made no mistake.”

Humans were her food. The weak are meat for the strong to eat8; the weak deserve to be devoured. What mistake had she made?

Wen Nuan lowered her eyes and sighed.

You Dai’er couldn’t stand seeing her like that. She took a deep breath. “Are you going to help them?”

If Wen Nuan dared to say she was, she would drain every last one of these people dry and tear them to shreds.

“You accept the punishment, and you can stay in the house,” Wen Nuan compromised. “And I won’t leave either.”

You Dai’er: “…”

The man in her grip felt the pressure ease slightly. A thin stream of air flowed into his lungs, giving him a moment of relief.

“What did you say?” You Dai’er’s tone turned grave. “Are you threatening me?”

Wen Nuan said lightly, “I’m only saying this once. If you don’t want to, then forget it.”

You Dai’er watched her turn to leave, her brow furrowed tightly. “…Where are you going?”

“The house is yours,” Wen Nuan said without turning back. “I’m moving out.”

A fire of indignation burned in You Dai’er’s heart. Wen Nuan was threatening her.

She could have completely ignored Wen Nuan’s threat, but her heart was now wavering.

What kind of spell had Wen Nuan cast on her? Why did she feel like she had changed so much, especially when she was in front of Wen Nuan?

Seeing that Wen Nuan was about to walk inside, You Dai’er suddenly blurted out, “I’ll do it.”

The moment the words left her mouth, You Dai’er cursed herself. “Fuck!”

Wen Nuan stopped and smiled. “Good. Then go accept your punishment yourself. I’ll be home waiting for you.”

You Dai’er blinked, and the red faded from her eyes.

For some reason, hearing Wen Nuan say she’d be home waiting for her was just so… pleasant to hear.

She tossed the man in her hand aside, released Ai Wen from his paralysis, and huffed, “Let’s go.”

Ai Wen hadn’t processed it yet. “What?”

You Dai’er shot him a glare, her voice sharp with annoyance. “Aren’t you going to punish me? Hurry up!”

“Huh?” Ai Wen came to his senses. “Ah, right.”

He gave the others a look. The werewolf transformed back into a man, and they escorted You Dai’er back to the Hunting Bureau.

Six days of scorching sun.

You Dai’er looked at Wen Nuan and threatened, “If I come back and you’re not here, you’ll be sorry.”

Wen Nuan crossed her arms. “Okay.”

Satisfied, You Dai’er left with Ai Wen and his team in a cheerful mood.

【Blackening Value has decreased. The female lead’s current Blackening Value is 7.5!】 the system said happily.

Having six silver bullets lodged in her body for a hundred days would have been a trifle for You Dai’er, so six days of being scorched by the sun was even simpler.

She spent six days at the Hunting Bureau, which was enough time to get a grasp of the changes and constraints that had developed between humans and vampires during the forty years she was sealed.

Ai Wen sent You Dai’er off, trembling with apprehension.

For those six days, even though You Dai’er was the one being punished, everyone at the Hunting Bureau had been in a state of panic. They provided her with blood bags every day to make sure she was well-fed and hydrated, lest she get angry and decide to eat everyone at the Bureau.

Moreover, during the six days You Dai’er was in custody, multiple murders occurred in various places. The cause of death in every case was complete exsanguination, with two distinct bite marks on the neck. A single glance was enough to confirm the killer was a vampire.

You Dai’er’s name had been cleared. It was now obvious someone was trying to muddy the waters, intending to use her awakening as a pretext to stir up trouble, break the Covenant, and then pin all the blame on her.

Night fell, and shadowy figures flitted through the forest.

They all took cover, hiding behind trees or hanging from branches, their differently colored eyes fixed on the woman in the villa who was drinking tea and reading a newspaper.

Fangs glinted, cold and sharp in the moonlight.

They were all poised to strike, but in the next second, their hearts were torn out and their heads twisted off.

The lead vampire stared in terror at the person walking toward him.

“Pro… Progenitor!”

You Dai’er licked the fresh blood from her fingertip. “What, you dare to touch my person?”

“Progenitor, this witch conspired with other witches to suppress you! We should slaughter her to avenge you!”

You Dai’er smiled. “Slaughter her?”

“Yes, witches are our mortal enemies! We must be ruthless with our…” The vampire’s eyes widened in disbelief as he watched his own heart get torn out by You Dai’er and crushed.

“She is my person. Besides me,” You Dai’er twisted his neck, “anyone who touches her dies.”

All the vampires were torn to shreds by You Dai’er, unable to ever revive.

Just as You Dai’er was about to go home, she looked down at the blood covering her body and the thick, metallic stench.

She thought of Wen Nuan’s aversion to blood, and with a frown, she flashed away from the villa and went to a river in the forest to wash herself clean.

The more You Dai’er washed, the more aggrieved she felt. Why was she being so tolerant of Wen Nuan? In the past, Wen Nuan had always had to do whatever she said, hadn’t she?

But when she thought of the look in Wen Nuan’s eyes and her words—”I’ll be home waiting for you”—You Dai’er instantly started washing more enthusiastically.

Whatever. A great person doesn’t record the transgressions of a lesser person9.

The girl was still young, just throwing a child’s temper. It was only right that she indulge her a little.
